@MattE.Эллен Oh. I probably made it to the exact size they specified.

1:15 PM
For the upcoming weekly writing exercise chat, is any preparation needed? Or is the topic set somewhere? First-timer asking.

@Tobbe We usually decide on the topic right then and there. Most of the exercises are flash-fiction so there's no prep.
Also we're not sticklers about the rules.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Cool, thanks. I'll register and show up :)

There isn't really any registration either :)

If you want to share what you write for the exercise, you might want to decide how to do that. We encourage people to post on a personal blog, or use Google docs or pastebin, so there's a link to share instead of a blob of text in chat. there are examples over there ---> on the star wall.
And hello! And welcome!

@KitZ.Fox good point

1:24 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I was referring to the room schedule thing, which had a "register" button. Had my suspicions the registration wasn't that formal though :)

@Tobbe oh, right. Carry on!

@KitZ.Fox Hello! Thank you! I'll fix a link for sharing then.

3 hours later…
4:48 PM
Omg chat.

5:04 PM
I'm here

I've got more data processing.
Should we start now?

I'm here! :)

@MattE.Эллен are you joining?

So @Tobbe, have we filled you in on how we do this?

Nope! I think I got the gist though. Write something on a theme, you've got one hour, post a link to what you've written?

5:09 PM
We chat some, but most of us only have time for the writing exercise, so usually we'll get us in a sort of group, then announce a topic. You get ten minutes to write whatever comes into your head.

Cool!

It's fast to help you get past thinking too much.
Helps you get in the "just write" mode.
And it's a throwaway topic that maybe you'll use some other time or maybe not.

sounds like a good way to go

@JohnP had indicated an interest in chat as well.
Generally, the idea is don't worry about being good. Just write something. That's what makes it practice.

@KitZ.Fox When I have time. And that is going to be a little more limited, the company is installing zscaler, so some SE sites will be blocked.

5:13 PM
ouch

Sounds like a good approach - especially if english is your second language (like for me)

I'm ready to write, but I'm pretty busy, please ping me when we're ready to begin

@KitZ.Fox I'm looking at running a transformer dockable tablet through a hot spot.

Well, I suppose now is as good a time as any.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 ping
Are you ready, @Tobbe? Are you joining today, @JohnP?

Yeah, ready!

5:17 PM
@MattE.Эллен will indubitably come by later.
OK then. Um. The topic will be...

Indubitably!

Sure. that works.

haha sorry, did not intend that
but sure, works for me

2015-10-06 Writing Exercise: Topic is "indubitably". 10 minute flash fiction write.
Go write. See you in ten minutes.

bb!

5:20 PM
Except Mr.Shiny, who always takes way more time than that.

Done! Just gonna share it...
That was so much fun!

@Tobbe Nice.

@KitZ.Fox Thanks. Yours was great!

You got the jerky boss thing and some subtle foreshadowing.
@Tobbe thanks

5:36 PM
Yeah, those ten minutes really forces you to think on your feet. The end just came to me just as I was finishing

17 minutes, not bad

Gotta eat dinner now, will read yours later @Mr.ShinyandNew安宇! Thanks for the company!

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 rofl
I never thought of indubitably as a military word.

I'll be honest, I didn't know what to do with that word.

It was funny, what you did.

5:41 PM
Funny, my piece is similar to Tobbe's

I thought so.
Mine was mushy ramble.

@KitZ.Fox I liked it.

I'm still getting my head back in order after yesterday.

I took longer than 10 minutes
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I used it as an opportunity for a terrible pun.

@MattE.Эллен heh nice

5:54 PM
thanks :)
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 it was a tough assignment. I liked your take on it

6:11 PM
Ok, how do I post my story?
@KitZ.Fox, @MattE.Эллен - Posted. Be gentle, it's my first time.

6:46 PM
@MattE.Эллен hahaha
@JohnP Nice.
Getting some dialog practice.

7:24 PM
@KitZ.Fox Trying. Feels klunky.
