Q: Spacing out dialogue?

Basset HoundI'm an amateur writer. Whenever I write, I tend to put in too much dialogue and not enough story. What are some techniques I can use to space out my dialogue? Thanks in advance.

> "We must not be too ambitious. We cannot aspire to masterpieces. We may content ourselves with a joy ride in a paint box. And, for this, Audacity is the only ticket." (Sir Winston Churchill, quotes on painting)

12:57 PM
This is great:
Especially the ad at the end.

1:34 PM
That was awesome. And also really really sad.

@KitZ.Fox That's pretty good. Spot on satire.
I just heard of Key & Peele the other day for the first time.

Q: What are the real incidents in Da Vinci Code and what are fictional in it?

user14718I have read "The Da Vinci Code" and found out real life references . I want to know if they are all true and if not then what part of it is true.

@FaheemMitha I love Key & Peele. Very good. Probably one of my favorites is this one:
contains lots of f-bombs.

@KitZ.Fox oh gods the rabbit hole

6:55 PM
@MattE.Эллен Hope you didn't break your ankle.

7:16 PM
:D

@Matt where's your pompeii? ;)

pompeii? under a pile of volcanic ash
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Is "Pompeii" the whole prompt?

yesterday, by Mr. Shiny and New 安宇
Writing Exercise 2015-07-28: It's Pompeii and Vesuvius is about to erupt. (10 minute flash fiction)
It's on the star board
My first pinned message, I think!
feels giddy with power

Don't make me unpin you as a lesson in hubris.
;-)

It's okay, even with the message pinned, nobody sees it

7:29 PM
I knew it was there.
so that counts, right?

:D my brain's not the easiest to focus right now

@KitZ.Fox It does count. Thanks for caring, Kit.
So my work Gmail acct is full. It's mostly full of error messages that get emailed out by our systems. I want to delete the messages but gmail crashes when you try to delete too many messages at once.

bucket of suck
I've never heard of such a thing.
I guess the lesson is fewer errors.

heh
yeah I should just bust my ass to stop the errors from coming in, right?
Sadly, one of the use cases is to send out error messages when there is, eg, a database outage.
come on, now I'm getting the error just trying to delete 120 messages

It thinks you're hacking.

7:42 PM
It's because I tried to delete too many emails at once, then got sick of the UI being frozen, so I hit refresh
unfortunately my error emails are labeled with multiple labels. So I can't delete them in IMAP, it doesn't work properly.
grr, it looks like I can only delete messages one month's worth at a time
that at least succeeds, eventually

whee!

but then I have to go empty the trash, because otherwise it gets too full and emptying it causes the same crash as deleting the messages.

good lord
seems like there ought to be a "delete permanently" option that bypasses the trash.

I know, right? And also a way to select a huge pile of emails and perform some batch action, even if it takes forever.

rofl

7:50 PM
So it took me 7 minutes to delete one month's worth of email

well, you keep it up regularly, right?
oh. that did not sound right.

No, I haven't been, that's the issue.

8:04 PM
Afternoon all. Looking for a little feedback on a very tentative plan I have for nanowrimo...
So I have this main story I am working on that is admittedly overly ambitious, essentially a series of novels
There is a non-main character in the story that is pretty powerful (fantasy world) and sort of a guiding force for the main characters
I have in mind a prequel to the main story that i have been working on. It would be this powerful character's life story essentially since you won't get much of that in the main story.
I can't seem to decide on perspective for the idea
So there is the question, anyone have a suggestion for perspective for a fairly inexperienced writer

I don't really see a question there.

8:55 PM
@KitZ.Fox I thought the teacher one was better.

Q: How do you make page numbers in google docs?

SkylarI really need to know how to make the page numbers in google docs look like a real book. I know how to do the page numbers, but how do you do them half on the right side and half on the left (like an actual book has them so that the pages on the don't have a page number in the crease of the book)...
