shakes fist @Mr.Shiny
@James You mean, like first person POV or third person POV?

@KitZ.Fox What?

Q: Is showing motion by repeating words a sign of bad writing?

Alexandro ChenI just noticed that I do this a lot: We continued marching and marching. The forest seemed endless. Either that or we were going in circles. Up and up I went, biting back the growing pain in my knees, blinded by sunlight that flashed through the twisted branches. Up and up and...

1:48 PM
@KitZ.Fox Yes that is what I am trying to decide...not sure which way to go, so perspective and tense.'

@James You mean, like a present tense story vs a past tense story?

Right so I can tell a first person story in past tense, where for example the author is the narrator retelling their life story (or reading a journal)
Or first person present and we are just along for the ride as things happen

2:06 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Lost

@James Present tense stories are annoying, IMHO.

@James Try writing one scene several times using the different POVs and tenses and see which one feels best to you.
Or make each chapter different. That could be interesting.

Lost is an American television drama series that originally aired on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) from September 22, 2004, to May 23, 2010, over six seasons, comprising a total of 121 episodes. Lost is a drama series containing elements of science fiction and the supernatural. It follows the survivors of the crash of a commercial passenger jet, flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, on a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean. The story is told in a heavily serialized manner. Episodes typically feature a primary storyline set on the island, augmented by flashback...
That Lost?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes.
You.
You!

Are you just starting to watch it now?

shakes fist again
S1E21.

okay, was the first episode not one of the best pilots you ever saw? I still think back to it from time to time.

yes. it is a good series.
not awesome but good.
like Twin Peaks good, but not as creepy weird.

Hm, I've never watched Twin Peaks

and then omg, it's that guy from sense8. oh hey, a hobbit! no shit, Delenn!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It's heavily dated now, but extremely good if you're into David Lynch.

I'm not sure if I'm into David Lynch.

2:13 PM
I watched the first season in one go about a decade ago.
Never saw the second season.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Huh. Well. Maybe not for you then.
It's kind of like Lost if you were on a bad acid trip in the 80s.
More dramatic than Lost.
But same kind of supernatural oddity.
It's a murder mystery.

Looking at David Lynch's IMDB, I think the only thing I've seen of his is the first half of Dune, which I found terrible.

Oh. Yeah. Try Mulholland Drive or Lost Highway.
I did not enjoy Eraserhead. Blue Velvet was disturbing. Hell, all of his movies are disturbing.
Huh. There are a bunch here that I don't know.
And yes, that Dune was not particularly good. Did you see the newer made for TV version? It was much more like the book. I have it on tape somewhere.

@KitZ.Fox I heard of it, but never got around to watching it.

It's rather TV-like, but still pretty good.
iirc

2:52 PM
Have you ever worked with SiteCore?

Yo Yo!

user116848
I wrote my weekly short story:

Two things. 1. "They got on a Jeep" should be "in". 2. people covered by lava don't leave statues. In Pompeii the people were covered in ash and dust.

user116848
I see, thanks.

user116848
I'll edit it.

6:23 PM
I think the statues thing was romantic.

user116848
@KitZ.Fox Yeah I watched it in some movie.

@KitZ.Fox yeah I like it, except that it wouldn't happen

6:44 PM
I was shouting at the TV last night for that reason.
"Holy crap, what is wrong with you people? Can't you hear that guy has a sucking chest wound!? you better tape that off before his lung ... shit. see? lung collapsed."
also, you can't just stick a needle in your arm and run a piece of tube to someone else and stick a needle in their arm. That's not going to work.
I mean, not if you're going to just stand next to him. Gravity, people. Gravity.

yeah it's for that reason that I could not watch CSI:Cyber.

I get the drama, I just wish they would think a little more about it.
like compartment syndrome? why didn't he put a tourniquet on that kid's leg immediately?
And elevate the legs so that the blood would pool in the torso?
Didn't any of the writers so much as read a first aid manual?

yeah I'd expect Locke to know more first aid, and Jack too

And Sayid.
I guess I did learn a little more than regular first aid. I suppose that's probably why it bothers me.

7:12 PM
Yeah but Jack is a surgeon and John is a survivalist, sorta. so... wtf
