12:38 AM
Hey. How did 4 hours pass without me noticing there was talking in here?
wth? WTH? WTH!?

1:01 AM
OK. @Metamaterialgirl. It's time.

1:33 AM
Oh! You still there @KitZ.Fox?

Yes.

Schweet. Got time for a sprint still?

In a sec. I have to find out how long it's supposed to take to install Fallout 4.

Only way to figure is by trying, I'd expect.

Nah. Says it takes just under an hour to install.
Good lord.

1:37 AM
The price we pay for funz.

OK. Yes. Let's -- um. rum first.

Let us rum, by all means.
I, um....have pineapple vodka and Sambuca.
...y'know, I don't think I've ever tried writing while buzzed.
Hmmmmm.

It's not an awesome idea.
Because it's harder to think and then you just want to sleep.
Or maybe get busy.

snork! I'm more of a grabby huggy drunk than a horny drunk, but yeah, that probably still doesn't transfer to mad writing skills.

Aww.

1:44 AM
Drunk me: 'TIME FOR FOOT MASSAGES, EVERYONE LINE UP'
Surprisingly, they do. Though that might be because they're generally drunk also.

I wouldn't have to be drunk for that. Sounds great.

Hee.
The best compliment I've ever received did arise as a result of a foot massage. So I suppose I look back at Drunk Me foot massage antics with more amusement than embarrassment.

Well, I should hope. That's a very nice thing.
You must save me from the rabbit hole.
Writing!

Let us hunt and snare the elusive Word Count Target!
Wanna sprint?

Yes. Yes!

1:55 AM
Yarrrrr!

15 minutes?

15 mins?
Jinx :D
Anyway, ready?

271

Steady
GO

2:10 AM
@KitZ.Fox Ping!
My count is horrible, I had a distraction.

Ugh.
621 - 271 =350
eh. Another?

Yesh.
Ready?

Woo. Let's do it.

Steady
GO at 7:12!

Q: I'm unable to figure out the logical solution to a problem; how do I keep writing?

Kannan ChandrasegaranI'm outlining the plot for a scifi screenplay. I have the main characters, premise, the first half of the story, and the climax thought out. I don't want to bore you with details, but the story involves an enemy who can perfectly anticipate your moves. The main character needs to figure out how t...

@KitZ.Fox Ping!

979 - 621 = 358
Keep going?

463 that time.

Nice

Yeah, let's pound it!
Ready?

2:29 AM
yes

Steady
GO at 7:29!

2:44 AM
Aaaand @KitZ.Fox ding.
516. That's better.

1320 - 979 = 341. Can't seem to go any faster.
More rum, then let's hit it again.

in Captain Jack Sparrow voice So THAT'S where the rum has gone!

Not when I'm drunk. I'm very not good at remembering to be good when I'm drinking.
Especially when you're making me think of you as Johnny Depp.
I would hate to violate your personal boundaries in my exuberance.

That's okay. Captain Jack Sparrow's boundaries are very...negotiable.
Also, he gives good footrubs.

I'm writing young adult here.
...but a footrub sounds nice.

2:49 AM
Yarrrrrrr.

Let's do it.

yep

Steady
7:50 GO

3:05 AM
Aaaand @KitZ.Fox ding!
528.
Quality's crap though.

1730 - 1320 = 410
Better because I didn't have to move.
Hit quota. Keep going?

I think I need a little brain break, but I'll cheer you on if you want to go at your own pace.

OK. I'm in overtime, but I want to make some progress on my backlog.

YOU CAN DO THIS
The box is full of horrifyingly detailed sculpted dolls with real hair and baby teeth and little holes and screaming mouths.
I mean, little holes punched in their skin

I went for something a little more subtle.

3:13 AM
Awwww, I don't get to eat creepypasta for dinner

I can post what I have so far if you want to read it.
Here if you want.

Yiss!
Oh wow
Your writing is so much CLEANER than mine.

?
What?
You crazy.

No, seriously. It's not rough quality, it's final quality. I only saw one little misspell and it was a present tense where you meant to put a past tense.
And it flows and everything's nice and smooth.

@Metamaterialgirl Maybe. I write Lucien with a funny dialect.
@Metamaterialgirl Argh all this pressure!

3:28 AM
Yeah, but it still makes sense. I mean, you're writing his words correctly, just showing his mildly different speech patterns.
And LOL

Well, I guess you haven't actually seen the rough cut parts. The "and then they all went and did this different other thing"
cuz I couldn't figure out how to get them there.

coughs I, uh, have a couple of those.
'And then xxxxx happens'

"So then they stopped eating breakfast and switched to the next scene"

LOL
'Then: PLOT'
And then there was cake.

{TODO: something interesting happens}

3:34 AM
SUDDENLY: all this random shit makes sense.

Note to self: edit this so it makes sense.
Later.
OK. I should write more.

So much editing.
Yarrrr.

I want to get 600 more words.
Here I go.

And now I KNOW you can do it b/c I've SEEN you do it.
GO!

4:11 AM
OK. Quitting time. Busted out a lot of words, but I still have a long way to go just to catch up.
2843 tonight.
Good night!

WOOOO!
G'night Kit!

@Metamaterialgirl Are we sprinting tonight?
I am stuck again. I can't figure out what Mr. Bumble's story is going to be about.

Hm. Maybe should brainstorm a bit instead? I'm down.

Yes, that would be helpful.

I'm a little stuck too; I know the general gist of what should happen but I have it happening like 3 different ways and I'm not happy with any of them.

OK. Maybe we can swap ideas.

Yarrrrr.
When's a good time?

11:10 PM
Problem I'm having is that I'm not sure what problem I'm solving with Mr. Bumble's story. Not sure of its function.
Hi @Jasper.
@Metamaterialgirl Now? Or is now not good?

user174558
@KitZ.Fox Hi, I see you are not in the other room, so I came.

Oh I just came over here because of writing. Is everything OK over there?

user174558
Yes.

Now's good. Grocery shopping's on my list but it's gonna be a circus till evening anyway.
Hi @JasperLoy.

user174558
So many mods in ELU now that nothing can ever go wrong again.

11:12 PM
So tell me about Mr. Bittle?
I mean Bumble

user174558
@Metamaterialgirl Hi Meta!

damn, was reading another thing and it overlapped.

He's really, really old. He lives at the end of the street. You go past his house and down a dirt road to get to the cemetery.
You can take apples from his orchard if you tell him a story. Today, he's decided it's his turn to tell a story.

how has he figured into the story thus far?

He's sort of old wizard-y.
Not really, but like kindly grandfather-ish.

11:15 PM
Hmmm. And he has a story to tell that is important to the greater story?

Probably. Seems like it should be. He only just told me it's his turn, but he didn't say what or why.
Other stories have included the protag's sister relating a funny story about their childhood, and Crystal telling a ... dunno, how snakes got scales over their eyes.

Hm. Things That Old People Are Good At: remembering things that other people have forgotten, either in a 'the treasure got buried here' or 'I know why your grandma married your grandpa' kind of way....

Eddie also told a story but not to Mr. Bumble, about the first time he and Jesse went to the cemetery.
Hmm.

Is Mr. Bumble associated with the cemetary? Like groundskeeper or something?

No. Not as far as we know. He's too old to get out of the house much, so he likes it when the punk kids come visit.
Maybe let's think on your thing and maybe that will give me ideas.

11:20 PM
Mine is more a matter of order, and how much conflict Sianeve has to go through to get there.

Oh. So I can't really help?

It's not that you couldn't, I'm just not sure if I can even explain it in a useful way.

Hm. Maybe I should read through some of my flash fiction writes.

I think my problem is mostly that I'm avoiding writing something that I'm mildly uncomfortable with, but is kind of important to the story as I've written it...
Flash fiction?

user174558
@KitZ.Fox I now have only 20 contacts in my email list. I trimmed it down from 50, hehe. And you are still in it. That shows how important you are!

11:22 PM
Awesome. Thanks, @Jasper.
@Metamaterialgirl The 10-minute freewrites.

Oooh, si si.
For free-association ideas?

I did like the line I read just now "We’re none of us going to die today. We’re all in, we’re all out. Got it?"
Maybe he could tell a relevant war story.

That DOES have a ring to it.
Ooh, war stories. Would also show a side to him that's more than what the kids have seen so far perhaps?

user116848
G'morning.

Hi @Arrowfar!

user116848
11:25 PM
@Metamaterialgirl Howdy!

@Metamaterialgirl It certainly would. But what would be the purpose in that.
Hi @Arrowfar.

user116848
Hi @KitZ.Fox. How goes it?

Depending on how you spin it it could be either 'this person who was sort of background is scary competent in some ways and could solve a problem that you didn't think he could help with' maybe.

@Arrowfar It goes.

Or (other part of the either) it could be that he becomes part of a problem that the kids then realize they need to solve?

11:27 PM
Maybe...the story involves how his squad dealt with someone who had a psychotic break in the middle of a mission.

user116848
Hello @MattE.Эллен.

That's not quite right. Going sort of in the right direction I think.

Eeek!
hides behind fridge

Muahahahaha

user116848
11:28 PM
:)

Howdy @MattE.Эллен!

pounces, puts @Matt in grey sack

I was here the whole time!

user116848
@MattE.Эллен You don't chat much these days.

muffled protestation

11:28 PM
pats sack in greeting

@Arrowfar well, I spend most of my time in a grey sack

> When one of the main disadvantages of losing weight is tripping out and ending up in a truck stop shower on a Sunday afternoon three weeks and ten states past your last memory, you end up putting on a few pounds over the years and I guess that’s what I’ve done.
I write the weirdest shit sometimes.

@Metamaterialgirl hi!

That's probably not appropriate for young adult fiction though.

Hm, the psychotic break, or just any other issue that a soldier could possibly have that could also be appropriate to what the kids are dealing with?
Well, YA CAN deal with tough themes. I mean, jesus, Hunger Games.

11:30 PM
Yeah, could be some kind of weirdness.

I think the distinction with YA isn't the problems they deal with, it's...the perspective they bring to them.

Ultimately, <spoilers> we learn that Crystal is schizophrenic </spoilers> so Eddie's going to have to make a judgement call about whether to believe her or not.
This story could contribute to that.

Oooh, okay. So...hm...how does her schizophrenia manifest? Stuff like the box? Distrust of others?
Voices and visual hallucinations?

yes.

I'll bet Mr. Bumble has seen some stuff both in and out of war that could remind Eddie of that.

11:32 PM
She thinks she's on a mission, that she gets special messages, and now she thinks Eddie might be one of the dozen she's been looking for.

Ohhh...maybe Mr. Bumble WAS on a special mission once, and he mentions something that is integral to a mission that you don't want to ever overlook, but Crystal just blows past it, or something...?
Basically a way for Eddie to compare the two and go
'hmm, if Crystal's thing is real, why isn't xxxxx happening'?

I like the idea that Mr. Bumble was on a special mission.

Or she believes it IS happening (even hallucinates it and tells Eddie that it's so) but he goes to the place where THING should have happened and sees no evidence of it.

Maybe he explains the sign-countersign procedure. Maybe Crystal even seems to do this with him.
More like it is more convincing to Eddie that she might be telling the truth instead of weird.

Ooh, a red herring, possible

11:37 PM
A rescue mission, maybe. That's something Mr. Bumble would do.
I'm thinking that the reader is more likely to think she's crazy at this point.
So it would be a good plan to make her seem less crazy.

Yes, either a stealth drop behind enemy lines or maybe go in under disguise, either could be useful

Maybe.

user116848
So these days whenever someone writes "is" in capitals like IS the first thing that comes to mind is you know who... heh.

user116848
Stupid media.

user116848
;)

11:42 PM
It annoyed me more when it was ISIS, because that's what we call the Thames in Oxford. So, I would think "hey! that's our word. Stupid terrorists."

Daesh is convenient, even if ISIS/Daesh don't actually care.

user116848
@MattE.Эллен heh :)

user116848
@Metamaterialgirl Also ISIL.

And I didn't have anything against the original Isis, she was an okay Egyptian goddess.
Ah yes, that too.

user116848
@Metamaterialgirl lol

11:48 PM
good night

user116848
Good night!

G'night @MattE.Эллен!

user116848
Oh sorry typo above I wrote "you" instead of "who" <feels embarrassed>

Ooh, that makes more sense now.

user116848
Or "what" maybe. My typing sucks sometimes.

11:54 PM
Eh, mine too. So many little typos because I'm used to spellcheck tagging them now.

user116848
So do you use a software like MS Word etc.?

user116848
I have MS Word. I use it sometimes.

I use Open Office, or Google Drive, or Scrivener. I've been using Scrivener for this NaNo book.
Open Office is closest to Microsoft Word i think.

user116848
Cool.

user174558
@Metamaterialgirl Use LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice, please.

11:57 PM
That's the newer version, right?

user174558
Yes, there is a history about the split into two.

user174558
After reading it, I am sure you will choose LO.

Ah, I think I remember this subject coming up before once.

user174558
In fact, the original OO developers are behind LO!

user174558
I need to charge my laptop...

user174558
11:59 PM
Charging now.
