8:00 PM
Thanks for clearing up that hen mystery.
Ooh! <crosses fingers>

No problem. Re the job, it is part time, but at a fair rate of pay. And it's a family owned company that has a great deal of integrity.

@Cindy good! If you are treated badly at work, all the other perks are pointless. Family owned with great deal with integrity sounds like a place everybody would like to work at, I hope you get the job.

@Cindy Thanks! I wanted to try to look at some point, this was much easier :)

Yay! Easy!!

@Jolenealaska thanks for your good wishes. You are so right about being treated badly. It makes for very unhappy, stressful days. I had hoped for full time, but I do feel that if I get this I will be a very lucky person. Get some rest. I'm off to grab a quick shower and then get going on dinner. Good to see you!

8:09 PM
I am actually quite shocked.... That was pretty cool @Cindy.

@Jefromi Hi!
@Jolenealaska I thought it was pretty cool that he posted on your question.

The neatest example of that I have seen so far (at least to my question) is this:
5
Q: Preheat the Dutch oven (and the oven itself) for No-Knead Bread? (experiment results)

JolenealaskaI'm trying the America's Test Kitchen tweak of No-Knead Bread. The video segment on the website conflicts with the attached written recipe (sorry, paywalled). The video clearly says to preheat the oven and the Dutch oven before slipping the dough into the hot Dutch oven and baking it. The written...

Am I the only one that have noticed how good red bell peppers, capers and shallots taste when mashed into a chicken burger?

I damn near genuflected.

@Jolenealaska Hi Alaska =) I attest to the no knead method!

8:12 PM
Hey Captain! :)
Me too, but it has been a while.

@Jolenealaska That is waaaaaaay cool!

Yes
I was charmed :)

I'm have to say that after spending 10+ years perfecting my method. 5+ hours proofing has made me a wheat addict.

I sent an email to ATK when I wrote the question.

I'm with the stretch and fold method with a 75% dough.

8:17 PM
The guy responded so quickly that it made my head spin.
@CaptainGiraffe I got almost there with ciabatta.

Stuff like that doesn't happen often.
Okay, I'm really going this time. See you guys maybe tomorrow. :)

Also my tip for working with wet doughs is to use oil, not flour to make it not stick to your fingers.

G'night Cindy
Yes! (oil, not flour)

I feels alot cleaner too. Just use your dough scrape to remove stuff from your board. Finish with some soapy stuff.

I completely agree, but it feels almost like a new discovery. Pluto is not really a planet and oil is better than flour for your hands. You're welcome.

8:24 PM
New Horizons will fly by Pluto in July!
Right now it is close enough to do this:
(71 million miles away)

You call that a planet?!?

Hey, Charon (the little moon next to it) is the size of Texas, and Pluto looks plenty bigger, so it can't be that small!

nice :)

It's no Alaska, of course, but...

You know then old joke right? How do you make Texas the third largest state?? Cut Alaska in half?
Snort

8:31 PM
Surely NSW is larger?
Oh, that is a province.

Yeah, I might have bought it before.
Now it's just another Pluto.

As you wish.

:)
Hi Cerby
Where is the Cpt?
Really cool to see you.

Cerberus hi to you too! =)

Hi, guys!
Same here!
> Even as late as 1837, in official correspondence between the British government in London and New South Wales, the term "New Holland" was still being used to refer to the continent as a whole.[10][11]

In the Netherlands, the continent continued to be called Nieuw Holland until the end of the 19th century. The Dutch name today is Australië.
I didn't know they called Australia "New Holland" in the 19th century.

8:46 PM
Heee! And there's the pot. Dutch Oven. Cool :)

Congratulations!

See, and you thought Amsterdam wasn't famous for anything.

I saw a question about Dutch ovens come by...
Didn't I?
Your pot is actually called Dutch Oven?

Or that might just be fiction.
Yes.
The pot is actually called a Dutch Oven.
The burning question is whether that needs to be capitalized.

As long as you know we call those things simply a "pan", capitalize it as you please.

8:52 PM
But, but...what about Dutch promises or other things?
Oooh, and a lot of desserts, but I guess that's normal.
Amsterdam remains on the top of my list.

Wikipedia capitalizes Dutch (but not oven), just copy them and forget about it.
Also paint the bikeshed blue.

A Dutch promise? That must be bad...

well, there ya go!
if wiki says so

@Jolenealaska Then maybe you should hold your list upside down, because the city is certainly lower than any other place on your list.

So neat.
I know when I see photos of your city because it is so colorful.
Tulips and..well...something.
And Cerby! He's there somewhere!
Look for the middle head.

9:07 PM
Hehe.
It may be hiding somewhere.
Or sleeping.

Ha! never!

Is it really so colourful?
Places like Curaçao are more colourful...

The town seems to be, yes.
Maybe, but I don't see photos every day.
Amsterdam seems unique that way.

Haha you see photos of Amsterdam every day? I apologize...
^ Curaçao (Willemstad).

San Francisco has a lot of colorful houses!
A lot of them are more pastel than that though, I think.

9:12 PM
Nice!
Colourful.

My goodness, look at that. I wondered if you were tricking me.

Who, I?
Amsterdam is far more subdued.

@Cerberus That look like my town =)

I think of pastel colors when I think of Amsterdam too.
Almost like an Easter basket.

@CaptainGiraffe Does it!
And what is your home town?
@Jolenealaska Mmm not really, it's mostly different kinds of brick.

9:15 PM
Yeah that was a little brighter than I expected to find.
There's a lot of this kind of thing:

There is a bit of Baltimore in that.

@Jefromi Reminds me of Istanbul.

wow! I had no idea.

So everywhere has colorful buildings!

This is typically Amsterdam, by day and by evening.

9:19 PM
And you can't tell anything from pictures after all!

Well, why can't you?

I find myself looking for Gringotts.

Who?

Not in the "it's colorful, it's Amsterdam" way :)

They were arrested long ago.

9:20 PM
The wand finds the wizard, Mr Potter.

@Jefromi Sure, sure, although I wonder what pastel pictures of Amsterdam people have seen, then.

Look at the very center of the photo.
No way!
That looks lopsided as hell!

What does?

the middle of that photo!

All buildings were built to hang towards the canals a little bit, mostly because of the rain.
And they have also sagged in other directions over the centuries, like my house.

9:23 PM
thats awesome
That is also vaguely frightening.
But, what do I know? I find Holland kind of exotic.

Haha.
All of those houses have been inspected and such.
And reinforced where necessary.

More than I can say round here.

Heh.
Well, most buildings here have been national monuments for quite a while.
One of my bedroom windows.

I was very distressed about the deadly earthquake in Nepal.

The ceiling and the floor are straight.

9:29 PM
NEAT! :)
So you say

But the window couldn't be straightened, because it is part of the outer wall.
Heh.
Yes, Nepal is horrible.
(The floor is trapezoid, though, because of all the sagging and stuff.)

I have been on top of an earthquake of that magnitude.

Really!
What was it, 8 or so?

a 7.9
Exactly

Ah.
Of course the amount of damage greatly depends on the terrain, the depth, the structures on it...
Amount? Degree?

9:31 PM
yes, we've actually had this conversation!
:)

I would say the extent of the damage, but not without the.
I remember something...

I don't know all the details, but I do know that in Cantwell, Alaska, it was just another day (sort of)
We shook
we looked around
we said Holy Shit
A few roads were hit badly

Hehe.
Very Stoic, I like that.

But, we were very sparsely populated.
One little old lady twisted her ankle.
That was it.
No other casualties.
Are you here? Something odd just occurred to me.
Google...brb
That was within days of being diagnosed with MS.
Hmmmmm...It hadn't occurred to me that way.
I don't even know which was first.

9:49 PM
@Jolenealaska Jeepers.
Impressive.
@Jolenealaska Hmm is there a connexion?
You noticed some difficulty remaining stead during the earthquake, then went to have that tested?

I don't think so.
(no connection)
I think there is no way that you could say, "Oh, was that last night?"
But it has now been 13 years.
Much water has flowed, Kemosabe.

Was what last night?

No! Ha...that's what she said....no!
No!
For real, just thinking of the date.
The 7.9 earthquake (2002, November 3)
was about the same time as my trip to Anchorage.
I really don't know which was first. Not that it matters, just odd.
Those were both pretty memorable life events.
Huge earthquake...life changing diagnosis
After 13 years, they are reduced to not knowing which was first.

10:11 PM
I suppose that is good?
Getting used to mother nature's whims?

Ha!
I guess that is one good way to look at it.
:)

Always look on the bright side, or something!
Hmm why is Holland coördinating all rescue operations in Nepal?
Apparently, the UN decided that it should, but why?

Cause you're cool?
There are worse things than always being the hero.

10:26 PM
Hehe, yes, that one...

I love that
I was happy to find it so quickly.
My first thought (for some reason) was Kermit the Frog.
But YouTube quickly dispelled such notions.

Does Kermit sing that too?

Apparently not.
Or at least YouTube doesn't know about it.
It seems right though, doesn't it?
Now I have to look again.
Nope, but there is a Hermit in Monty Python!
Does that count??

10:41 PM
Haha.
I, too, was watching random MP/LoB videos now...

Hee, explain that one!
We started about the same place, at about the same wavelength?

Quite!
I also watched the Stoning (very funny), and some other scene (somewhat less funny).

They are so absurd :)

But my favourite is of course the one about Romanes eunt domus, or whatever it is.

I just watched it!

10:52 PM
Good!
I've seen it so many times.

Conjugate!

Yes! Do it!

That reminds me that I miss Tall.
:(

How long will he be away?

I didn't pin him down.

10:55 PM
Won't he be able to chat from his hotel room or something?

Any day

@Jolenealaska You should have.
He will be away any day?

You would think, but somehow he is pretending to not even know us.
He will be back any day.
10 or 11 so far (but who's counting?)

Ah, okay.
He's probably in no position no go and use his phone for extended periods of time in their room.

pfft

10:58 PM
He must be going crazy, with kids in the room...
Tired kids...

lovely wife and great kids??
pfft

Hehe.
You're a demanding e-mistress...

in Spain??

Why not in Spain?

double pfft
That's where he is.
With the wife and kids.

10:59 PM
Would it be different if he were in France?

Like I mean nothing. Totally different language.
Doesn't even count. Triple pfft.

11:44 PM
OK OK understood.
@Jolenealaska Video recorded by a drone, of the damage in Kathmandu.

my heart breaks
