3:00 PM
I have no idea how thorough the search is.
Ah
Yeah, I'm going to try the Bravetart technique with my new mixer.
I'm waffling on the color.

on which color to go for or which type of color to buy?
I say go powdered

There is a big hobby store nearby, maybe, just maybe they'll have a proper powder color.

call them

I really could go with any color, as long as it's a good powder.
I will.

yup
i will be making strawberry, raspberry, cranberry, gooseberry, cloudberry, tomato and tandoori macarons from here to eternity

3:04 PM
I've got a few flavor emulsions that I like.

funnily enough, the book I have has a recipe for an Indian spiced macaron

I know :)
OOH!

Interesting.

a small one would make an interesting garnish

3:05 PM
I know the flavors to eternity feeling...And OOH Indian Spiced!
I need to start using the reply button.

yes, you do ಠ_ಠ
;)

One of my emulsions is cinnamon oil.
I'd like to do that one if I can find a good red.

The problem with that one is that it really appeals to me, not the people I plan to unload these things on since I'm on a weight loss kick (as of yesterday).
I just want to eat like two, but that's eating one Pringles.
My lemon ones weren't gorgeous, but damn they were good. I gave away maybe five...and ate the rest.
That picture is also apropos because I'm looking at the clock.

you are a naughty puppy

3:16 PM
7:16am.

time for a fresh new day!

bwaahaahaa
chit

chit?

The Epicurious recipe of the day (from my emai) actually looks good for a change: epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/…
that's censored for shit.
I'm trying to be respectful of the non-heathens
I'm not very good at it

A) there aren't any non-heathens here any more B) any non-heathens here are adults and C) any non-heathens who think their mystical sky wizard is going to burn them for eternity for reading a 'bad' word seriously needs to re-examine their non-heathen status. If unwilling to do so, they may refer to Appendix B - 'Fucking right off'

3:24 PM
LOL! You kill me.

<bows>

It really isn't nice, but it's funny as hell :)

pfff, nice
the world isn't nice
but damn, there are worse things than bloody swearing

Oh yeah.

in any case, my well-documented apathy also extends to what approximately 99.9999% of the world's population thinks

3:29 PM
My current step-mother (the one I like, just to be clear) is the sweetest, nicest, most compassionate person you could ever want to meet.

that includes about 98% of the regulars here
so, meh

And she carries herself with such grace.
She is every bit a "lady"

she looks curiously similar to your father
you're sure you're not from Alabama?

There is a funny story there...sort of...
But I'll finish what I was saying first.

haha yes, thatäs what I thought too. Not the alabama part, but thez both have the same ezes.
sorry, German keyboard layout again
and hi again

3:32 PM
She has the mouth of a hardened sailor.

it makes you sound quite drunk
@Jolenealaska I like her already

She out-cusses anyone I know :)

fun fact - so, apparently, does Julie Andrews. The cast and crew on Mary Poppins were shocked

I've heard that...and Diane is just like that.
It's just shocking and quite amusing.
She and dad both went to the same high school (the same one I went to, as a matter of fact).
They were in the same graduating class.
She was the homecoming queen and cheerleader and such.....
he was the president of the math and science club.
neither knew the other existed.
They met decades later and only realized that they were in the same class after they were engaged.
Their wedding was just after mine.

Sweet storz

3:41 PM
I've always guessed that they had planned to get married sooner, but Diane delayed it so as not to "steal my thunder". They announced their plans just after Scott and I were engaged.
Compare that photo to this one (I know you've seen it, but there is something to seeing them side by side):
<shivers>

The Diane stepmother does look a bit like the princess Diane

I@rumtscho I don't think I ever told you that she emailed again.

She has eyes like those of a great white shark
empty, soulless, unfeeling
the mouth isn't far off either

@Jolenealaska I only know of the email where she says that she does not want to speak to you again

3:44 PM
is that dog making the ASL sign for 'help'?

hee!
I wonder if it's really her dog, or if she just rented her for the picture.

probably bought it then ate it afterwards

I mean, I also know of the email which was only a subject line, but the one afterwards - conceding that there is a past between you two and asking you to not write anymore - is the last one I know of
@ElendilTheTall She wouldn't have! Think of all these calories and red meat.

@rumtscho Yep, she wrote back and reiterated that I was not to contact her again, and said one other thing that I found interesting.

@rumtscho yes, but think of the life-giving blood of a young animal!
just be glad it wasn't a neighbourhood child

3:47 PM
@ElendilTheTall Nevertheless, I bet she's on a diet of Brussels sprouts and pineapple juice
you know, the type of diet where the eater gets as sour and dry as the stuff he eats

She said that she regretted (she used a different word, that doesn't have the right tone) that I was "mired in the past")
I found that interesting, because it acknowledged (in a subtle, strange way) that there was an ugly past.

better than nothing

I wonder if that was in any way intended.

does it matter?

not really
I actually feel somewhat healed by the whole thing.
I never stood up to her as a kid.

3:51 PM
it's hard for a kid

It felt good to say one really bitchy thing to her, something that I knew would hit her right where it hurts.

I can imagine it did
But I'm also glad for you that it ended there

me too

a prolonged slinging of mud is not pleasant for anybody. Not even for the winner.

I doubt we'll ever contact one another again. And that's fine.

3:54 PM
Sounds like you found a kind of closure. That's good.

Yep. One really bitchy comment, and now I'm actually glad I did it.
:) It really was a good line

yup
but I'm afraid I have to run now

cya!

promised to bring something somewhere until 6 o'clock and it's 4 to 6 now
see you later

bye R-money

3:56 PM
I'll try to write up that candle thing today. I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.
Cya soon.

and then there were two
again

People are going to talk!
I was writing an addendum to the pastry bag thing...I'll finish that and brb

@Jolenealaska let them talk damn it! you think chat like ours happens every day?! <violins soar>

4:16 PM
I'm trying to say the caulk gun thing is really awful, bush league shit...

OK...

then I search Amazon for "cake decorating supplies"
there are more stupid caulk gun things on the first page than pastry bags.
I'm trying to find a good starter kit, and I'm finding it difficult.
lots of these:

All you really need are the nozzles and a few plastic throwawayz
Throwaways
Jesús! Es muy ventoso aquí. Y frío!

Really? it's a very nice day here.
Damn! It's been so long since I've done anything on main that I am out of practice!

And yet somehow the site survives

4:30 PM
Imagine that!

Si. Primavera ha pasado ya

I do want to finish up a few things I've started.
We still have ice on the ground.
Are you coming up with these phrases spontaneously?

Naturalmente

What site are you using?

To learn? Duolingo and Memrise

4:37 PM
I haven't paid the site that appeals to me yet, I'm impressed with your progress.

Gracias.

@ElendilTheTall yep, I tried to relay that to the OP. She seems set on the stupid caulk gun thing.
"The caulk gun looking thing is cumbersome and a pain to clean, pastry bags are a much better option. I realize that is a subjective thing to say, but there is a reason you never see pastry chefs using the caulk-gun thing."
I'm going to have nightmares imagining trying to "caulk" macarons.
AHA!
That's the one I want!
0.5 inch
And this is the one I have:

Yeah. No bueno señorita

@Cindy I like Marti's answer to that question too, but I'm always a sucker for an Alton Brown reference.
@ElendilTheTall Estoy de acuerdo
Lo compre
I still don't know how to do the damn accent thing.
When I call to look for powder color, I'll try to get a 1A tip too.
Say THAT in Spanish!

4:53 PM
I wouldn't want to show you up ;)

:) Heehee
I've put the tip in my Amazon basket, but maybe I'll get lucky and the craft store will have it.
I think that will help. With the smaller tip, the last few rounds are a bitch.
@Cindy Is what I did to your answer OK?

If not, you can always try one of those caulk gun things, I hear they're really good.

5:16 PM
@Jolenealaska Absolutely! Thank you. :)

I'm just glad you don't mind. Since I agreed with you, it didn't seem necessary to add another answer.

Plus, I think it adds something when others can see us working together.

That's a good way to think of it :)

Telemarketers are driving me nuts! Every time the phone rings I'm hoping it's about a job and every single time it's a telemarketer. Grrrrrrr.........

I hate that!!!
Telemarketers bug me almost as much as people knocking on my door to invite me to their church (that happens a lot here)

5:31 PM
I just can't figure out what good it does to be on the do not call lists.

drop in the bucket

hi there
would you like this question on your site?

Q: Would sake go well with non-Japanese food?

TV MohiniOn my current Japanese visit, I've had some fantastic night outs. I love sake - it is subtle and unlike wine has no acidity and tannins. While ordering food, are there any pairing restrictions I should be aware of? Can I ask the restaurant staff for suggestions? Is it unusual to ask staff for sug...

if yes, I'm going to migrate it

It looks good to me..but I'm not a mod.
I'd say it belongs here more than there!
The title doesn't match the question.

not really
I'm going to edit and migrate

@RoflcoptrException wait a minute
"what goes with what" is not accepted, it's a subjective poll

5:42 PM
@rumtscho but she doesn't actually ask that in the text.

yes the title is a little bit misleading

@Jolenealaska what does she ask then? Pairing suggestions? I have to read it in depth

are there pairing restrictions...is it OK to ask the waiter?

oh btw. sorry i already migrated. my fingers were faster than my mind
sorry for that.

@RoflcoptrException don't worry, it happens. If we can't find a wording which fits, we will just close it here too

5:44 PM
IMO it can edited (I haven't looked at your edit) to fit.

My edit somehow disappeared
@rumtscho Ok, that's a good idea

Either way, it seems better that it happen here.

If we edit it to ask directly for suitable pairings with sake, be they Japanese or non-Japanese, then it would have to be closed as subjective

Then don't edit it that way!

If we edit it to ask "is it polite in Japan to ask a chef about possible pairings", then in my opinion, it's not a cooking question any more
in fact, if somebody had asked this thing here, I would have suggested migrating it to Travel. Or maybe asked the Japanese language site if they do cultural customs too, but I doubt that.
Do you see any other way to word it so that it is about cooking or storing food?

5:50 PM
hmmm...another difficulty is that it's unclear whether she is asking specifically about Japan (as she seems to in the last line), or also wherever is home to her.

This is the lesser difficulty. The site has always been, since before I ever came to it, about cooking food. Not about any other stuff connected to food, such as serving it, creating a menu, or making a career in the food industry.

ok maybe the question should just be deleted on both sites and the OP should be asked to clarify or write a question that is more on topic

If you remove the last line, the pairing restrictions seems OK. The title is definitely not OK as it is, but could be made ok, but it still wouldn't match the text.

@Jolenealaska If you remove the last line, what is the question?

It's a mess, but if it gets pulled together, I'd like to see it here.
I don't know. The more I look at it, the more convoluted it seems.
But I still think it's our problem more than Travel's problem.

5:55 PM
If the intended answers are of the kind "sake goes well with any kind of fish" or "never serve sake with olives", then it belongs closed for subjectivity
if the intended answers are of the kind "a Japanese chef would love talking to you about his food, so go ahead and ask him", then it's a question on local culture and not on cooking and so out of scope
I can't imagine any other intended answer towards which the question could be reworded
@Jolenealaska if Travel decides that there is no wording which would fit their scope and we decide that there is no wording which would fit our scope, then it gets closed on both sites. The Stack Exchange network does not intend to have a place for every possible question which humans find interesting.

The question of Sake with non-Japanese food (not "is it good", but is it...damn...I'm not finding the word....)

compatible?
I don't see anything objective there

appropriate is close...maybe a thesaurus would help...
Yeah compatible is getting there.

but this is a pairing question
and whether a pairing tastes good or not depends on, well, personal taste
it's the prototype of subjective, if you will

Is the question "Which choice of wine would be most appropriate for the this wedding reception menu?" on topic?
If no, then I agree that the Sake question is pretty hopeless as written.

6:03 PM
no, the wine + menu question is also not on topic

OK, but I do think that it should be on hold here, as opposed to on Travel.
In the unlikely event that she edits to an objective, answerable question, I think it's more likely to be about flavors than geography.

@Jolenealaska it doesn't matter that much to me, but I closed it here
@Jolenealaska but it is unlikely to be about anything different than a pairing, because this seems to be the main problem
it so happens that somebody answered it before I closed

I really hope she manages to make it a question because I'm oddly intrigued by it.

normally, a quick closing is preferred (followed by reopening if need be) exactly because we are expected to prevent answers
but in this case, I even find it somewhat nicer that it happened.

oh well

6:10 PM
I'm not personally opposed to the OP hearing an opinion, and now she got one

It's a pretty good answer (I skimmed it)

I generally like JasonTrue's answers, he writes well. And also sticks to what he knows well, which is a rare skill (I must admit I could do better in that respect myself)

ha! me too :)
He uses the word "rule" that's getting more to what I was trying to say before.
Like red wine with red meat and no cheese on fish.
Asking if there is a "rule" like that for sake, doesn't seem overly subjective.

But how do you prove that such a rule exists?
Or what do you do if there is one culture which has this rule and another one which has the opposite rule?
Also, this would have to be an awfully tight legalese wording which most people answering won't understand
They wouldn't tell you if they know of a rule or not, they will try telling you whether the rule is somehow "true" or not

@Jolenealaska hiii
pleased with new UI

6:18 PM
Well it's not provable but I don't think that is required. I can't prove that pastry bags work better than caulk gun things.

which will end up 1) being more trouble than it's worth, and 2) being of no use to the OP

Hey Jude!
It must be 10am, I'm typing like I just came from the dentist.

@Jolenealaska small thing to know from you. Do you know any online volunteer program that i can be apart of ? Something not related to programming. I mean something i can do in my leisure time?

because the OP probably also wants to know if the rule (assuming that it exists) is true, and if we start deleting all answers which try to answer that, she will either be disappointed that she gets no answers, or misrepresent the other answers to mean what shew wants to know

I think we're OK as it stands. The question is on hold, but Jason's answer makes it not a complete loss for the OP.

6:22 PM
yes, and I'm finally finishing with the computer for today and getting to relax a bit. See you later.

Cya! :)
I'm afraid Jude that the techie types are gone... Oh maybe not...@ElendilTheTall might still be here.
He's that sharp-looking mauve thing.
next to the cat

@Jolenealaska i'm not talking about tech stuff.... That's why i asked this from you :) i wanted to a social volunteer project

what is UI? User interface?

And to what user interface do you refer?

6:28 PM
Frying Pan has a nice look and feel

Ah...sorry, I was AFK for a minute.
Yeah, it does.
I know you've told me, Jude, but I forget. Where are you from?

lol.... Sri Lanka

Hmm...I associate almost everywhere with a particular food.

so, what do food you have been associated with SL ?

But I'm at a loss thinking of a dish native to sl.....sorry...phone
important call

6:45 PM
Kottu?

@ElendilTheTall you got it
time to go home
Cya

Hi again Tall
is Kottu a dish?
Oooh that looks good
But jeez look at that list of ingredients!
I love street food...all kinds of street food...
This looks awesome
This is a better video...you can really see the food.

7:49 PM
@jolenealaska hello?

ping back

You and me. Tomorrow.
Scrabble

YAY!!

<snaps into kung fu pose>

what time?

7:52 PM
Whenever you're conscious. But during my day.

do you have another email address? I can try to send you another no-ad invite

I can give you one tomorrow.
(that's what she said)

so your day starts at my midnight...so 12hours+ from now?

Let's say 13-14?
Give me time to fully caffeinate.
Answer emails, that kind of thing.

I should warn you, I broke 600 the other day against the computer...but I only had the AI set at average...That's nearly brain dead to you and me.
it played vowels next to TWS and shit
that reminds me...at least according to kindle, shit is not a word.
Pissed me off
I had the h and t as my last tiles
ok! And I have figured out how to get rid of the timer
And what was the other thing???
Oh I remember...not showing tiles until the turn is done
I can do that

7:59 PM
Cool
