9:07 PM
Alright. Cheese steaks for dinner. I've got thinly sliced cross rib steak that I plan to cut into equally thin strips. So, big question. Marinate? Or no?

@Jolenealaska Is this vocal aunt the boy's mother?
I think not?

Cheese steak never madinate

9:29 PM
No. Thankfully the aunt is his aunt too (great aunt?) For a second I thought you were asking if I planned to marinate her for cheese steaks :)
There's a thought!

Well, here she is! My first brioche!
She grew a little in the oven :)

@Jolenealaska Congrats.
Let it cool before you devour it.

I can't wait to taste it!\

And remember, crotchety neighbors do not deserve brioche, which freezes well.

9:38 PM
I tend to agree. I'm eating cheese steak with him, but he wouldn't appreciate brioche anyway.
Of course I won't get to taste if for a couple of hours yet, but so far it looks like the recipe is a keeper. I didn't even have a problem with sticky dough.
It's funny that I was concerned that it wouldn't even reach the top of the pan.

It has horns

That's that $7/2lbs of yeast from Sam's Club :)
The plastic stuck a bit and created tiny little bumps when I pulled it off. Also, my slash vent is a bit lopsided.
Live and learn for the next time with stupidly expensive butter!

10:03 PM
I'm already planning the next one! Hmm, the recipe says I can increase the butter by as much as 50%, that will use up 3/4 of a pack of fancy butter (6 oz). I'll give the sponge a 24 hour ferment and the final dough 48 hours. That's the max for each according to the article. I wish I could get farm fresh eggs, but I don't have a source.

10:14 PM
Have you even tasted this one and looked at its crumb before plotting the next one?
I spray the plastic that will sit on the top of the loaf with spray oil. It helps mitigate the stickage.

Nope! Not yet! Luckily, plots are subject to change. :)
I will next time and usually do. Honestly, I didn't expect the dough to actually reach the plastic. It was soooo tiny!
I should have snapped a picture.
Shaped in the pan it wasn't even an inch thick.

@Jolenealaska tvfanatic.com/2014/04/… !!!!!!!

SWEET!

They also gained an exclusive license to the entire victor hugo catalog, but indicate that as a public service, they will not actually air it.

I don't subscribe to Amazon streaming, but I will. I've been very happy with all of my other dealings with Amazon.
BAH!

10:21 PM
@Jolenealaska Amazon streaming is part of Prime. I don't think its separate any way.

I hsve that stupid Eastbound and down song running through my head. I cannot even imagine where it came from.

I just got YET another suggested (spam) edit to that post. That's got to be about 30 by now.

@Jolenealaska Enough already.

??Enough what?
I order from Amazon enough that Prime is a good deal anyway. Even without the streaming.

@Jolenealaska I signed up the moment it was announced, long before it had any streaming benefits. I was frustrated because I kept scanning down the page going "where do I click, dammit!?"

10:24 PM
I've been on Prime forever too.

I did the free trial, but cancelled before I had to pay. I always figured I would get it again eventually. I guess that time is just about now.

Wiki tells me they started it in '05.
Amazon tells me I've been a Prime members since December 10, 2005
@SAJ14SAJ when's your start date?

@derobert I don't know.

It says February 03, 2006 which is the first day it was advertised to me on the front page.

10:29 PM
That announcement has got to be making Netflix a little nervous. IMDb links to Amazon too. That's got to pretty effective too.

@SAJ14SAJ Aha! I out-Prime you :-P

As I mentioned to Josie yesterday, I think there has always been next to no chance that Hobo would license their content to Netflix.
@derobert I did not realize we had a competition :-)
They must have staged rolling it out some how.

@derobert did you see my pretty brioche? I'm so proud!

@Jolenealaska just scrolled up and looked, that looks nice! How many lbs will you put on from eating it?

I'll try to limit myself! :) I'll put 3/4 of it in the freezer right away. It smells really good.
I should call the elementary school next door and find out if they're going to do another bake sale this year. I made them cookies last time. If they do another one this year I think I'll donate a couple of brioche loaves.

10:46 PM
No reason, just because.

@SAJ14SAJ WRONG. Not a cat.

@derobert If you have a cat picture deficit, I can help you.

Those look like the horns on my brioche.

I'm just saying, you only post random photos when they're cats. So it appears you've failed the "is that a cat?" test.
/me is tempted to make some bread now...

@derobert That is not true. I posted the dalmatian goats a day or six ago.
And I generally only post pictures of my own cats.

10:48 PM
Those lambs were ridiculously cute.

Goat, lamb, Sob says when they are young, they taste pretty much the same.

@SAJ14SAJ I scrolled all the way to the top of the page, and don't see it. As they say, seeing is believing, so I'm afraid I don't believe you. :-/

@derobert Want the brioche recipe?

@derobert I can live with your disbelief.

@Jolenealaska I have a few from Reinhart... Which are very tasty. And something like a lb gained for each slice eaten.

10:50 PM

@SAJ14SAJ TERRORISM!

I looked at one from him too. I settled on Rose Levy Beranbaum.
I just made mushrooms that look just like that for the cheese steaks. Caramelized onions are next.

@SAJ14SAJ Those are cute. They could almost be cats, if their legs were shorter. So I suspect you thought they were cats.

10:53 PM
@SAJ14SAJ Inhumane!

You're going to make me ask Google for images of roast cat.

Sadly, you could probably find some.

Maybe. I mean, some people eat cat.

@derobert I am sure that is just a lie. That is what Mr Whitefoot says.

10:55 PM
: For meat eaten by cats, see cat food. Cat meat is meat prepared from domestic cats for human consumption (not to be confused with a British usage referring to meat sold to cat owners in the days before packaged pet foods). Acceptability as a food source varies in different parts of the world. Some countries have resorted to the consumption of cat meat in desperation during wartime or poverty, while others believe eating cat meat will bring good luck or health. A number of cultures and various religions consider the consumption of cat meat to be taboo for humane reasons. Consumption o...

Lalalalalalalalalalalalalala

Wow, nice. The article doesn't have any pictures of butchered cat. But Chat.SE found some!
@Cerberus watch out, the Wiki has nutrition info should someone decide to roast you.

@derobert I am sure Cerby is too tough to roast. You would have to braise him for hours and hours.

Well, in that case, a serving of braised @Cerberus has 22% of your recommended daily allowance of iron!

I am not convinced he isn't poisonous in any case.

11:05 PM
Oh my. This bread is amazing. ooooh num num oooh yeah

@Jolenealaska Get a room.

mmmmmmmmm
Crotchety neighbor gets one slice if only so I can tell him that's all he gets

@Jolenealaska He us unworthy.

I'd say I'm not worthy, 'cept I made it!

11:41 PM
@SAJ14SAJ Looks delicious, but why did you think of me?
@derobert Noo that is unethical!
@Jolenealaska Well done! It looks great in the picture, just as brioche is supposed to look.

@Cerberus Didn't you say something about believing cinnamon should not be the main flavor?

@Cerberus I'm about to post a pic of the crumb. It's amazing!

@SAJ14SAJ Umm I don't think so? I wouldn't say that.
@Jolenealaska Yay!

@Cerberus Purty!

Thanks, you too.

11:52 PM
The whole loaf weighs 400 grams!

Looks great!
Very airy.

actually 380

And it is a large loaf?
Then that's light.

Yes, full size loaf. 120 grams of that is butter!
The recipe says I can up the butter 50%. So that's for next time.

Haha.
Almost cake.
