@ScottS Close, but I need a noun. Plain prose is clearly a desideratum (do I get a bonus mark for irony there?), but I hoped the technical term would give some precision. I was wrong! :)

@Soldarnal Btw, the final volume of that O'Donovan trilogy has recently appeared:
I'm reading it now -- it's a cracker. :) I do love his scattered exegetical insights -- sprinkled like gold dust.
