@ewwhite Well, they probably like it less after they're indicted for crimes carrying 10,000 years of jail time.

@HopelessN00b the recidivism rate is very high. I don't think punishment affects desire
Hello @NReilingh hope you are well?

Hello there
is a total noob wireshark question better for serverfault or superuser?

@NReilingh eh ask it here and let's see

@NReilingh A lot of it depends on the environment it's run in. If it's a production network that you're tracking issues down with, it stands a better chance here I think.
But yeah, drop it in chat. Better to have a few of us curb stomp you than a lot of people on the front page!
=)

honestly, I'm just trying to figure out why none of the example filters in their docs are considered valid syntax by the current stable build

11:05 PM
@NReilingh I haven't heard of a change in filter syntax
so... example of what doesn't work?

host 172.18.5.4, evidently

@RyJones Yeah, imagine that... sexual desire is basically not something you can change. Who knew, right?

@NReilingh Wireshark filters are a fuckin PITA sometimes

@NReilingh this is a capture filter or a display filter? and what exact version are you using?

it looks like my install wants ip.addr == 172.18.5.4 instead

11:07 PM
@NReilingh That's the normal method

yes, don't confuse capture filters with display filters.

I think I might be confusing capture filters and display filters?

what exact version are you using on what platform?

okay yes, that was totally it

there you go

11:10 PM
hey, thanks all

Q: What should an Ops person about hardware for an interview?

Jasmine LognnesIt is easy to find typical interview questions for sysadmins and network engineers, but when I search for hardware engineer (hardware operations engineer) I can't even find one site with typical interview questions. Question What would be typical questions for ask for a hardware Ops position? ...

@ewwhite You're up!

I refuse to answer her questions

Do you have an uncontrolled drug habit. Do you bathe every day. Will you start fights. Will you sexually harass your coworkers.

@MichaelHampton hi. i have a question
haha
[root@localtoast html]# semanage port -l | grep ssh
ssh_port_t tcp 22
in theory.. if i change my ssh port...

1
A: Nodejs Nginx error: (13: Permission denied) while connecting to upstream

Michael HamptonBy default SELinux only allows the web server to make outbound connections to a limited set of ports. # semanage port --list http_port_t tcp 80, 81, 443, 488, 8008, 8009, 8443, 9000 To fix the problem, you simply need to add your own desired port number to the list. # ...

The rest, I trust you can figure out yourself :)

@MichaelHampton how can we trust a non-accepted answer?

11:42 PM
@RyJones Haha.
It's hardly my fault that the user decided to accept a crappy and incomplete answer.

I'm downvoting your answer, it's scary that it didn't work for OP

sup

@RyJones The dumbass probably didn't even try it. Disabling SELinux is so much easier and less secure.

@MichaelHampton Thanks.

@mossy how's the jerb?

11:44 PM
I'm just confused because I changed my ssh port, and it's still allowing connection
@cole good.

Are you glad you made the move to TX?

@mossy I haven't looked that closely at ssh's SELinux policies.

@MichaelHampton ok. I figured i would ask because google is not the most helpful for SELinux stuff
It's mostly just.. "heres a fix: setenforce 0"
@cole Yeah man the weather is nice all the time.

@mossy nice :)

@cole I also have motivation to LEARN things.

11:48 PM
@mossy oh I'm so jealous ;_;
someday

I'm walking a produce warehouse manager through powering a server on... in Spanish
which one do you think was powered off?

@ewwhite I'm guessing the one labeled "APC"

@freiheit Nope, the one labeled Dell. It's all dark and stuff.
I can't see the screensaver.

the HP... in the middle
had to open the front door to power it on
the guy was like, "yes, it's on... there's an orange light"
and I was like...

@ewwhite Were you forced to attempt to describe the power icon over the phone in spanish?

11:56 PM
Es una línea en un círculo

> Empuje el círculo naranja pene

@MichaelHampton It seems to work as intended for httpd, but for some reason it ignores sshd policy. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

@cole when you moving to Seattle?
