@Dan I annoyed my old manager for months a while ago when england managed to lose a match against .nl

never fails, about to go out the door... and bam, something you forgot pops up

@MattBear you get your Apache stuff figured out?

ehh, we will see
I almost forgot to renew an SSL cert on our helpdesk server
its tomcat... on windows
it's a pain in the ass

im about to say "fuck it" it can live with an expired SSL
it's good till noon :p

@MattBear what a nice day, isn't it?

3:41 PM
I'm on vacation next week. Today is my last day, and lo and behold - my current customer fucked up and opened a ticket with Microsoft as a Sev C instead of A. That means 8 hour response, which mean VACATION STARTS NOW

I have recess till Jan 2

I miss working in higher ed sometimes
That time is typically from Dec 22-Jan 2

Dan
:D

Yeah, That is the only thing pretty much -))

3:46 PM
Half the office is on vacation for the rest of the year after today...and i'm just sitting here pretending to work
>_>
including my boss so I'll be the sole IT guy for a couple weeks

Anonymous
same here god

Anonymous
oh, the sole IT guy? enjoy your workload

eh, it's a small office (<100)
but, as fate says, challenge accepted

Dan
@DennisKaarsemaker Like they need bribes!

3:51 PM
I get more done when my boss is on vacation...

yeah :/

4:08 PM
Uh, guys. You realise that whatshisname's main claim to fame is that he can outsmart a duck, right? Why are we listening to him?

@MikeyB cause I like the show, it makes me happy happy happy

@MattBear Never actually seen it. Seems entertaining.

just say no to stupid TV shows.

OK, was this arranged or coincidence?

Dan
The first two are just the log, the latter is a coincidence!

4:21 PM
@MikeyB I like it, reminds me of my family :p
java keystores = stupid

@MattBear 's/ key stores//'

its what I get for being tired lol

@MattBear No kidding. You know what we need? ANOTHER FILE FORMAT.

I was java would just.... disappear
and take tomcat with it
and anything else that has ever touched it.. and anyone that has ever owned it, and all products that they have ever made
I HATE IT

@MattBear I assume that java keystores were designed specifically as a form of torture

4:28 PM
Java has a really nice runtime and standard library. Shame about the language, though.

Q: Cannot register new System Center 2012 Service Manager Data Warehouse after Service Manager database move

MDMarraI recently migrated a customer from a 3 server SCSM topology to a 5 server SCSM topology and I am now having an issue registering the Data Warehouse Management Server with the Service Manager Management Server. All servers run Windows Server 2012 except for SCSM3, which run 2008 R2 SP1. Origi...

No one will be able to answer this, I'm sure, but why the hell not

@MDMarra Like that's ever stopped me.

hahaha

Do all Apple stores not stock 13" 16GB MBPr? Would have guessed they had a couple laying around in the back room.

I think 16GB is a CTO config

Yeah, it looks that way. I would have thought with soldered on RAMs it would be stocked item. But I'm often wrong.

4:48 PM
Shopping for a new laptop?

No xmas present for me I guess. May as well wait until after the holiday anywho. Might be some returned units showing up in the refurb shop.
@MDMarra Yeah, was hoping to pick one up on my way home from work. My Lenovo won't charge any more. Replaced battery and AC adapter. Not under warranty, and I don't want to replace the system board.

I'm thinking about getting a new Air. 12+h charge is so tempting

So using a notebook which needs to be plugged in all the time isn't much fun.

But I have a 2012 non-r MBP with a 512GB Crucial M4 SSD and 16GB RAM in it
So...I can't really justify it haha

Quite nice. 16GB doesn't even appear as an option for non-r on their store.

4:52 PM
Dammit wikipedia, I already gave you money. Stop bothering me!

@jscott Technically not supported but it works

this is ace

5:18 PM
The cloud is full of butts

@RyanRies Oh hey, you're here. Got any time to explain a PS behavior I've only recently noticed?

Sure

Q: Edit gPCMachineExtensionNames Attribute via Powershell

m.hegnauerI have to modifiy the gPCMachineExtensionNames Attribute string from a group policy in active directory with powershell. For this, I first want to read the existing string, modify this and replace the old with the modified. The attribute is defined in the policy container under: CN={POLICY GUID...

Some google searching turned up this TN forum post from Richard Mueller, but doesn't explain why.
I only thought to test with all lower case as iterating $allGPOs[0].Properties listed all the names in lower case.

Interesting... let me ponder

Please do, no rush or anything. It's a curiosity to me and I've not found an answer. Granted its not been my main focus today. I do appreciate the assist.

5:36 PM
man, im too tired for this shit

@MattBear bro
I @'d you yesterday for some SharePoint knowledge and got the cold shoulder!

I need to put a wildcard ssl on a centos server

:(

@MDMarra sorry man, didn't even see it

SharePoint 2010 configured for NTLM
Is it super difficult to change it to Kerberos?

5:37 PM
When I saw this one I just had to log onto the comms room to paste it:

Or is it just some SPNs and flipping a switch in Central Admin

not really

A snowy day in Salt Lake City. Shunts everywhere. Bedlam ensues. Cometh the unicyclist showing off! #unicycle http://t.co/onYn7hKjaw

@MDMarra just register the SPN, and switch claims mode to Kerberos

word up
thanks pal

5:38 PM
yeah, was easy, and the really nice thing about it, is that's it's (negotiate)
if you screw up, it fails over to NTLM

I figured

SPNEGO is magic.

hahaha

tell you what... if you find me a guide on getting on SSL cert over onto a CentOS server, ill link you the guide on setting up kerberos
in this case, I need the codes... im too damn tired to think now

@MattBear You just sftp/scp it?
Linux is simple.
Move file. Point directive at file path. (Make sure permissions allow file to be read.) Done.

5:40 PM
@84104 it's an existing wildcard cert

@MattBear Also copy key then.

done that, from IIS I exported the pkcs12 file with the key
now I need to extract the key right?

Depends. Some things will just take pkcs12.

its apache I think
all I know about this server, is that it's CentOS, running SugarCRM, and the cert expires in 3 hours
and I've been working 23 hours straight :(

`openssl pkcs12 -in bundle.pfx -out server.key -nodes`
Will give you just the key in .pem format.

5:45 PM
@MDMarra blogs.msdn.com/b/russmax/archive/2009/10/20/… I assume you read through that?

Utter. Bloody. Morons.
Got an inch of snow last night. People seem to be a) driving around at 40mph in residential streets or b) abandoning their cars wherever they sit the moment their tires start spinning.

openssl pkcs12 -in bundle.pfx -out server.cert -clcerts
will output the certificate, but not the chain, which might matter
openssl pkcs12 -in bundle.pfx -out server_ca.cert -cacerts
will output the chain, but not the client cert
(you can cat the two together if you need)

I just don't understand why a little bit of snow makes Seattlites completely lose their shit.

@jscott Ugh, great, when it's got Richard Mueller stumped, I know I've got my work cut out for me: social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/…

People in the Deep South deal with snow better than we do.

5:49 PM
@RyanRies Yeah, I linked that above. :)

@Magellan We have similar issues with rain here.

@MattBear nope
But I will

duuhhhh
Need more coffee

@84104 True. They're not all that great with rain here either. And it does that 200 days/year.

@MattBear It's in support of SCSM, so I'm doing my best to learn as little about SharePoint as possible

5:50 PM
If it goes 2-3 days without raining, it's generally guaranteed to average 1 accident every 2-3 miles of freeway pavement when it rains next.

Variables could use longer names. You have something against functions? (Flow is hard to read.)
Or better names. stuffy?
Seriously functions. This is like a run on sentence more than it is a program. This start out as a simple script or something?

@cole oh cheer up

@cole Have a star; get a badge!

I just had an ultrasound done, I'm in an immense amount of pain

Anonymous
oh

6:06 PM
@cole from an ultrasound? how is that

@cole Sounds like a good time to start drinking! (Unless it's liver damage. That would suck.)

@RyJones because I'm having issues with my ovaries and uterus already.
So the poking and prodding has angered them. So now they're like FUCK YOU COLE.

@cole sorry to hear that.

@cole On the plus side, you're not currently watching Midhun from Microsoft support insist on running through the two hours of troubleshooting you've already done to correct the problem that you opened a ticket for.

@MDMarra that sounds more painful than this

6:07 PM
"Already checked that table"

@RyJones I just want to find out what's wrong.

@84104 thanks for the help there, got it working

"Already ran that PowerShell"
"Already deleted that row"
ZZZZZzzzzzzz.......

@84104 Cutting those characters out makes the script execute 0.01% faster!

@cole sure thing

6:08 PM
@MDMarra "Is your computer plugged in? This is very much common mistake."

@MDMarra Yeah, but you've done support before. You know the person saying "I already x" can be full of it. :)

@RyJones It'll most likely allow for me to get my hysto covered by insurance, too. Instead of paying $12K-$17K out of pocket.

Yeah, but if he didn't take the FULL 8 hour window to get back to us, we might not be so under the gun

Well.. there is that...

I go on vacation starting in 4 hours

6:09 PM
@ChrisS If you wanted to run fast you'd compile without symbols... and write in assembly.

@MDMarra hooray

Gonna go to the Franklin Institute and see the Pompeii exhibit
Gonna go to the Movie Tavern and get wasted while watching the Hobbit 2
lots of big plans

@cole Silver lining ahoy?

kce
@cole - Confirmed by support. NetApp VSC is not supported on Windows Server 2012. Migrating vCenter server! Again!

jesus I hate that shit
2012 R2 is out already
Get your act together, enterprise products

6:12 PM
@MDMarra If they did that they wouldn't be enterprise products, now would they?

@MDMarra in my experience enterprise means "way behind the curve"

I have a customer that can't upgrade to 2012 R2 DCs because the 2008 family is the only one certified to run Directory Services for a fucking oracle product
It does LDAP
fucking pure LDAP

kce
I thought we were being all fancy by using Server 2012 since it was the new platform - compatibility issues like all hell.

Lame

How do they not support it on 2012+
ITS LDAP

6:14 PM
@MDMarra probably will run into that issue at $newoldjob

@MDMarra Schema differences? Or does it work but they haven't "tested" it?

kce
@MDMarra - Embrace and extend? When an LDAP is not actually an LDAP?

But once I put the finally bullet in NT4, at least I can get them to 2008. (All the DCs are 2008 - doubt they'll let me rebuild 9 servers)

I mean, sure some of the Schema has changed (As in new things added), but the shit's looking at (&(ObjectClass=User)(SamAccountName=somefool))
It's been the same for going on two decades now!

@kce AD is LDAP enough for OpenLDAP utilities, which use OpenLDAP libs, which is what just about all of Linux uses for LDAP. I don't think they've gone too far there.

kce
6:16 PM
@cole - Oh. The Interoperability Matrix for NetApp lists the most recent version of VSC (4.2.1) as supported on Windows Server 2008 (not R2).

@MDMarra Have they tried it? Sounds like it should just work.

@kce not surprised.

Oh, it will absolutely work
But if there's a PROBLEM, it's not supported

kce
@84104 - Probably not but it's just a guess... sometimes vendors do something "special" with protocols.

Oracle will tell them to downgrade the DCs to 2008 R2 before they'll field a support call

6:17 PM
Sometimes I enjoy not having enough budget for support.

@MDMarra I just got linked to a .doc. I feel dirty.

yeah sorry
Meant to put a disclaimer in
But AD is LDAP compliant with the relevant RFCs
I was actually searching for a non-doc link to edit in and got sidetracked :)

kce
@MDMarra - I figured as much...

there we go!

6:20 PM
@84104 -O3 -funroll-loops = YEAH BABY!

kce
@ChrisS - Do people still use Gentoo?

@kce someone does

kce
I must admit a fondness for it when I was younger and stupider but I'm surprised it's still around.

Friend of mine only runs Gentoo

@kce Bro, do you even FreeBSD?

kce
6:26 PM
@ChrisS - OpenBSD.
@cole - If I wanted ports I'd use *BSD. :D

Oh - well that sucked all the fun out of that joke.

kce
:(

@kce We still have some gentoo around. It's not as bad as the SunOS, so it's got a stay of execution for a while.

@84104 SunOS as in pre Solaris ?

@Iain These might actually be Solaris 1. Not sure how to check.

6:40 PM
@84104 whilst it's all SunOS it was referred to as SunOS up to 4.x then Solaris after that I think

Okay, looking at a Solaris 2 machine now. I think there might be some older ones though.

ooh that is old

Yeah. =(

what hardware is it running on ?

Some SPARC thing.

6:44 PM
I guessed
;)
Why do you have such and ancient OS, especially when SPARC binaries are compatible with new hardware and OS .

I used to have some SPARC binaries from SunOS 4.1 running on Solaris 10

Because I am not in charge, and change is "risky" and risky is bad.
Also, "Isn't it amazing that this is still running." And, of course, "It's working."

I'm still working FFS!

@84104 bummer - the worst thing I encountered was having to make a container and spoof the hostid using DTrace

@Chopper3 sucks, eh?
I'm at least working from home

yeah, what the hell am I doing!
@Basil me too
