7:00 PM
@pauska Ya know. DevOps has all the cool shit and the paychecks...

@Adrian I read this question, but isn't this something for stackoverflow?

@Adrian I'll be in Seattle at around 7pm

@AlexanderJanssen I could buy that. But I think NC was a bit overkill.
@JoelESalas Cool. You'll be around later in the week or just this evening?

btw, if I want to propose a posting to be transferred to another SE site, do I need privileges I don't have yet? Or did I just miss the correct button

@Adrian Until Friday night

7:05 PM
@JoelESalas Sweet. Later this week would be best for me as I'd kinda-sorta promised the GF that we'd do a field trip to the new BevMo that just opened up by the mall. My wallet's already whining at how bad the butcher bill for that trip is going to be. =)

@AlexanderJanssen 3k rep lets you vote to close
Part of that is also being able to vote to migrate
You can always flag things that you think should be closed/migrated before you have 3k rep, though.

ah, I see

You should have enough to flag things. That's a low rep privileged, I think.

well, I don't want things to be closed just because they could have a better home

Just keep in mind that we don't move old questions

7:07 PM
sure

You can always flag it as "other" and just type in something like "This should be migrated, it's a better fit at ____"

sites like webmasters/dba etc was launched way long after SF
so it would be kind of dumb to just migrate everything that was posted before their launch, even if it fits better

@pauska Actually, Kyle had a big to-do recently about not migrating to a "better fit" if it's still on-topic here.
It really should only be migrated if it's clearly off-topic here and clearly on-topic elsewhere and it's an exceptional question that deserves new life.

what do you mean with a "big to-do"?

So, I basically never vote to migrate

7:09 PM
uhh

@pauska I meant he was going on and on about it in here a month or two ago

well, I don't agree with him at all on that

Yeah.
I mean, he is an employee and SF mod, though.

if a question is brand fresh without answers then why the hell would we keep it around when it would get better answers on another site

I argued and then let it go.
Now I very rarely vote to migrate

7:10 PM
He is, but he doesn't make the rules.. we vote on stuff like that

Actually, I think stuff that's network-wide is sort of decreed
At least it seems that way.

@pauska Bureaucrats love it when people vote. It makes them feel as if they actually have any input into the system.

Obviously not by him, but you know what I mean.

@Adrian they opened a bevmo exactly 0.7 miles from my house. Craft beers all day every day

hah
well, I'm pretty sure that he won't convince SO to stop migrating stuff over to SF
or convince us about not migrating to SU

7:11 PM
@JoelESalas Oh yeah. Gonna be buying a couple growlers tonight too. Yum yum yum

@pauska just vote to close don't migrate it's the only way

@Iain ?

@Iain Off-Topic without picking a destination site, yes?

yep

20% of SO->SF and 12% of SU->SF are rejected.
8% of SF->SO and 6% of SF->SU are rejected.
We're doing better than either of them...

7:14 PM
Problem with that is if 3 other voters chose a site, and you don't, it closes and goes to the other site. So you have to NOT VTC on that one.

@ChrisS SO-SF has taken a jump recently

@Iain I still don't understand what you're trying to say

@Adrian I flag those as "Other" and say "this is shit. If I vote it'll get migrated."

are you telling me that we are not supposed to migrate anymore?

@Iain stuff is aging out of the statistics window

7:14 PM
@Iain I've never seen SO->SF in the single digits though.

@pauska don't choose a destination site

@ChrisS Because DevOps, yo.

@Iain WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

@pauska AFAIK, migrates should only be if it's clearly off-topic and it's an exceptional question.

there was a bunch of crap that got rejected a few weeks ago which was being partially masked by some good migrations back during the summer of love

7:15 PM
@pauska because

ok, got to worship the dinner and my wife. read you later... bye

@Iain then; no.

@AlexanderJanssen see ya

Sweet. Finally got my Strunk & White badge.

Switched to CDMA for battery life. I hate running out of power while traveling

7:23 PM
How can a dude from Kirkland that asks mostly Windows questions NOT KNOW that you deploy software in Windows using GPOs?
0
Q: Is there a way to make software available for remote installation in Windows Server?

Michael J. GrayI've heard of folks having a sort of "software repository" which contains a database of product keys and then network installation media for operating systems and other Microsoft software, such as Office. With this, they were then able to join a computer to the domain and grant that user privile...

Think we need a close option of OP is a micro-cephalic mouth-breather. =)
That being what I resemble before I get the first cup of coffee in me.

damn, you made me post to an OOOOLD question

@pauska 9/29 isnt old...

I think so :(

2 weeks ago? This ain't StackOverflow...

@pauska not even a month yet!

7:30 PM
@pauska and it's already got you 2 upvotes.

Hmm. Anyone here done anything as silly as "restoring" (inserting) a table from an MSSQL backup into the production database from which some ass deleted it in the first place?

haven't had that pleasure yet, no
afaik we have to restore the database into a new database, and then script it over.. tedious work

No, praise be. I've never had to do that.

@HopelessN00b uh....
"UNSAFE MANEUVER" comes to mind

You know, those 'First Post' and 'Late answer' queues really need a "i think this is just fine they way it is" button. Because it's sure as hell that some of those answers and questions don't deserve upvotes, but they don't need flagging, closing, or editing either.
2

7:35 PM
@Adrian No kidding. Adding a comment counts, though.

@HopelessN00b Ah! As does upvoting an existing comment.

@Adrian Yeah, there's a vote cap for comment voting too, though. So look out for that.

@HopelessN00b Yeah, I've hit that once or twice when going through Chopper's answers.

:6414054 Yeah, I know. But it seems we're throwing caution to the wind here, and I personally couldn't be less thrilled about it.

Should just be a simple mount/restore the copy and then select, insert statement... Trying to figure out why and how this is going to go really wrong really fast, though.

@HopelessN00b triggers?

7:38 PM
@Adrian I'm sure I saw something about that onmSO recently but as usual I can't find it

@Iain No worries. I'm sure someone decided that 99% of the time that 'just fine' button will get used and the system will get abused.

@voretaq7 Yeah, maybe. Not thinking that's going to be an issue. Well, for me. Fuck the auditors, they can all stroke out if they want to.

hacking away at the WSUS database is funny.. and scary

Aww, damnnation. Guess it's over to dba.stackexchange.com Oh well.

Q: Network Security, Authentication and Access between Zones

ChiramisuI'm looking for a crash coarse on enterprise networking security and I'm willing to read, but I've been having trouble finding material on my specific inquiries. Unfortunately my company doesn't have a dedicated security guy, so as a developer I'm left to figuring this out. I only have a surface ...

Teach me teh securities.

7:48 PM
jesus...

kicked my 2 cents in
Speaking of abominable questions that need closing, what about that PTR on Plesk question? Can only Devs make bounties go away so we can clean that mess up

I thought my comment was hilarious
so I wrote it again

@Adrian mods can destroy bounties

and then someone deleted both :|

@ChrisS can we ... wanders off to check

7:56 PM
the day humor dies here is the day I stop giving effort

@SpacemanSpiff both flagged NC

@Iain Mod menu -> " remove bounty"; Rep put up by the user is returned as if the bounty never was.

@ChrisS never needed to notice that

grumbles -Os breaks buildworld on 9.0 through 9-Stable >=[
@Iain Someone wanted a Q migrated while it had a bounty, only reason I know about it.

yeah - it's not like we have much reason to touch bounties

8:12 PM
Is this guy adding anything at all? or is he just pushing his own site? serverfault.com/a/436127/1435

terrible english, but yeah, I'd say he contributes
the site seems pretty harmless aswell

There's a dude here in the airport eating out of a bright red pleather bag
3

@Chopper3 Doesn't seem to be his site that he links to...

I can't tell what he's eating, but he grabs a handful, stuffs it in his face, then licks each finger. Back in the bag

@JoelESalas You find the most interesting things at Airports.

8:34 PM
@JoelESalas It's human entrails.

@Iain "How do I use Firefox?" - I'd say so
he's looking for the Content-disposition: header though

closed it and left them a guiding comment

@Iain I left him a link to the content-disposition RFC too

@voretaq7 oooh in that case it could be SO worthy

8:47 PM
@Iain yeah, or wordpress.SE, or here under certain circumstances (mod-rewrite to always make disposition inline/attachment for a specific MIME type) - it all depends on if that's really what he needs, and where he wants to set it
it's the Dorian Gray of gray areas, like all things that come within a mile of HTTP

WTF is up with all of the comments on the answers in this question?

Q: ML350 G5 - upgrade hot swap drives to 6 Gb/s?

EricEEI support a non profit. They got an ML350 G5 donated to them and I immediately put it to good use for them :) It came with four HP 300GB 15K SAS drives - and of course, they have all now failed. I have been replacing the drives and they are all 6Gb/s drives, but the HP controller in the ML350 ...

I think @chriss has made an enemy!

@ewwhite No, I just tripped over someone who doesn't understand business logic and still doesn't get it even after some fairly careful explanation (limited of course by comment lengths)

@ChrisS its OK, he'll understand after his first major outage with no warranty

@ChrisS But to come in talking that white box shit... That can be a sign of an immature engineer.

(unlike me he probably doesn't have full redundancy for systems with shit warranty, and an emergency rebuild plan if a whole set of machines goes splat)
@ewwhite nothing wrong with a quality whitebox. Mine come with a 2 year parts warranty.

8:50 PM
But I'm surprised to see that bias against brand name gear.

@ChrisS Is he... what's he doing? It looks like he's having a conversation with himself in the comments to every answer there.

@ewwhite that speaks to an immature engineer (or one who has never had to deal with an outage)

It can definitely be done... but usually it's with some set of standards. I work at a SuperMicro site, but we have spares for every common server component and a burn-in environment for every piece that goes into production.
More work, but they've evolved to support it.
It's like hearing people complain about one-button mice on Macintosh computers...

@voretaq7 The company is probably very forgiving of downtime... So it likely wont be an issue. This is one of those rare instances where white boxes have a chance of better TCO.. But that's not how he's approaching the problem.

@ewwhite We're a supermicro shop. Every machine gets run for 24 hours during its initial build, and there's two of every critical system (redundancy - you can has!). If something breaks we run degraded for the 2 days it might take to get a part, or worst-case the week it takes to get a new server

8:54 PM
My issue with him is that he's leading the question... yourlogicalfallacyis.com/false-cause

If two machines in a set fail we repurpose a less loaded/less critical box

"I can't afford $GOODSTUFF, therefor $CRAP is good enough"
It should be "We don't require features of $GOODSTUFF, so we can go with $CHEAPER_ALTERNATIVE_WITH_SUFFICIENT_FEATURES"

@voretaq7 good luck tomorrow

@Iain Probably only going to get to do the oral part, we've got rain in the forecast

:( bummer

9:03 PM
(and of course the DE is going on vacation the day after -- faaaaack)

Should I expense in-air wifi? [y/n]

I hold out hope that it will be bright and sunny, but the weather hates me
@JoelESalas If you use it for business purposes, yes. Otherwise no.

@JoelESalas Yes, I do... always

@voretaq7 Shooting the shit with you guys is clearly a core line-of-business IT silo that requires me to maintain always-on connectivity.

@JoelESalas I say No, flights are a good chance to disconnect from the world
Nobody can ever blame you for being un-contactable while you're in a plane :p

9:05 PM
@MarkHenderson I may actually get blamed

@JoelESalas Well that seems highly unfair. Come to this great country where in-flight WiFi hasn't even been considered
And if they did offer it, it would be about $20/mb

Basically, if someone emailed me something to do, and I could have done that thing by buying the wifi, I'm being negligent by not paying for the wifi and doing that thing

@JoelESalas That sounds like a bit of a stretch
Just tell em the wifi was broken

Also fuck me, I don't have a blackberry yet so I can't even respond to emails without having my laptop on and VPN'd in

@JoelESalas You make it sound like not having a blackberry is a bad thing
5

9:07 PM
@MarkHenderson Stresses me out

@MarkHenderson is that before or after they make the dispatcher patch them up to the airphone?
@MarkHenderson I want a mulberry.
mulberries are tastier. And indigenous to my current region of harbor.

@JoelESalas You can have all the blackberry plants from my backyard. Damned things are nearly impossible to get rid of.

@freiheit repeated application of glyphosate

@Iain monthly over about a decade?

sounds about right

9:12 PM
@freiheit compound seeds that only germinate after an indeterminate number of freeze/thaw cycles. GOOD LUCK, SUCKA!

Currently we're trying the experiment of making the invasive Himalayan blackberries compete with less invasive raspberry plants
@voretaq7 What is this "freeze" of which you speak? Like, freezing outside?

@freiheit yup
IIRC blackberries are triggered by the freeze/thaw cycle

@voretaq7 bite Rabies! Taste that rainbow, suckah!!
Oh and happy second week of October everyone.

@WesleyDavid Did you skip the appointment for your rabies booster again, Mister?

Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends.
@Adrian Skipped it? I rolled around in rabies this weekend for good measure.

9:18 PM
@WesleyDavid . . . Ow! My god! What the motherfuck is wrong with you? Run for your lives from the flailing arms of the angry lady!

@voretaq7 I live in coastal california. It's rare to get cold enough long enough to actually freeze the dirt.

@freiheit OK, then you're left with the other option: KILL IT WITH FIRE

@freiheit Dude just let me eat the berries.

@WesleyDavid I'm sorry, but we're going to have to put you down, apply a meat slicer to your brain and inspect the slices
@JoelESalas Free berries with blackberry plant removal

@freiheit Ok. I need to knock off the caffeine and have a lay-down. That initially parsed as 'Rectal California', which NorCal definitely is not.

9:21 PM
@Adrian ...I suppose that depends on your neighbors

@Adrian I attended Analy High School

@freiheit Sweet! =D
Crap. I sit down to eat lunch and get an escalation. Blasted supervisors can't fill out requests for crap and the padawans tend to be a little literal.
Double Sweet. All the bosses except for a VP-level director are AWOL. Time to whip out the superuser credentials and fix it.

PLEAS TO BE HALPING. MY WINDOWS IS VEEERY SLOW FOR CONNECTING TO THE OTHER PLACES? BUT I UPGRADED TO A FULL T1 SO WHY IS THIS THING?

what's the max speed of a 10k SAS disk?

Shibboleth, how do I hate you? Let me count the ways...

9:31 PM
think sequential...
125 Megabytes/sec?
200?

No, it can't be faster than this shiny, new T1 I'm using. Close maybe... so 1.25 Mbit/s?

Gigabit, you mean?
:)

No, pretty sure this shiny new T1's 1.5Mbit.

10k SAS.. transfer speed

@ewwhite Is that a trick question? It's 6Gbps, unless it's old as hell, and could be 3Gbps (I think).

9:37 PM
6G disk, but what's the real single-disk transfer capability of a spinning disk.

@ewwhite depends on the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow

@ewwhite OH, variable, if the OEMs are to be believed. I think the fastest rating I've seen is about 1.9Gbps

I've seen upwards of 2 claimed for sequential reads on a 15K disk.
Pretty sure that cake is a lie.

so, between 125 and 200-250 Megabytes/sec...

@voretaq7 Probably not a lie, just not anywhere representative of real-world conditions.
@ewwhite Yeah, sounds like a good estimate to me. Why you estimating such a thing?

9:40 PM
@HopelessN00b right. Lies. ALL LIES!

Huh. cmd exited on [server] with error code 9009. Don't that give me the warm fuzzies.

@ewwhite That an estimate, conjecture, or first-hand witnessed output from a test rig?

Oh, Windows 2000. Right. Teh sux.

Just writing a too-involved answer.

@ewwhite Oh, I hate it when I do that. You want us to distract you with pr0n or something?

9:50 PM
Maybe... but I've already started writing

Cute. One of the operational divisions just instituted a new on-call rotation for their middle management and just assumed that they are authorized to escalate non-emergency issues to Support during overnight hours.
Whee. I can already hear the sound of the blade coming around to stab me in the back.

You installed a Windows product on CentOS? I'd love to know how you did that. — Michael Hampton 26 secs ago

@MichaelHampton DevOPS!

@MichaelHampton HyperVM is a Xen manager

@MarkHenderson Yep.

9:55 PM
You're thinking of HyperV :p

Yeah, it seems so.

We looked at it briefly last winter

@MichaelHampton I shall flag you as inappropriate :p

Good luck with that.

Done writing the answer to that question... now I can go porn...

9:58 PM
@ewwhite Which for that client is billable, yes? =D

@Adrian Oh, gawd, if they ever tell me playing ServerFault is non-billable, I'm quitting.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh got all my votes back. I hate not having votes

@HopelessN00b Well, none of MY time is billable, sadly. Especially since half of it is eaten up in supervising padawans.

@Adrian Yeah, condolences. I may be joining the ranks of the poor FTE bastards soon myself. They keep threatening to offer me an FTE position, and I won't be able to stall indefinitely. sigh

@MarkHenderson what you said about Cray supercomputers earlier - the Kraken is a bit of a beast.

10:03 PM
@HopelessN00b As my buddy pointed out yesterday, you should be looking at offers with an eye toward how that position will lead towards the one after it.

@tombull89 Probably wouldn't fit in a foyer :p

@MarkHenderson nah...lots of blinkenlights though.

Yeah, which is why I'm gonna have to take it. :(

I mean, tear out all our computer shit and replace it with new? Hello $150k SA salary after all that.

@HopelessN00b ewwhite's been beating us over the head with DevOps for a year. It's time I listened.

@Adrian And... crack some DevOps skulls?

10:07 PM
I'm not really DevOps... I just know how to talk about it ;)
I think there's still a need for deep hardware skills.

@ewwhite But not much of it.
And not enough to support the current level of sysadmin-y folks in IT.

People will still buy HP and Dell... and need to know storage and monitoring...
remember, someone needs to run the infrastructure...

@Adrian shrugs So the kids in the bottom of the class are gonna have it rough. Such is life, and motivation to stay current and stay skilled, until you store up enough money you can say fuggit all and run out the clock without having to work another day.

@ewwhite Yep. Which can be done part-time for the most part and they'll want that person to be a Dev the other half the time.

No, I'm talking about BIG infra... not all companies are planning to outsource.
think of private clouds... hybrid clouds...
I see clients here at LW... and there has to be a reason they pay us $120k/mo. to host their servers.
even though they have internal staff and systems...
What's happening is the death of the generalist...
to be able to support things at the level people expect, you would need to be an expert hardware guy, virtualization guru, Windows admin, Linux engineer, DBA, and have some dev/scripting skills....

10:14 PM
@ewwhite Enh, the entry level generalist, maybe. Still a lot of call (at least around here) for an SA who's got a good breadth of experience and some depth to back it up.

Oh, and add the networking skillz.

@ewwhite Yeah, I've noticed that the ridiculous ads looking for those people have gone away in favor of the DevOps engineers.

I've seen some that are like, "Linux skills optional"

Does make me feel bad for all those people that the trade schools are pumping out of their IT programs. There isn't going to be much of a career track for them and they'll have to go back to school again in 5 years.

@Adrian I'm not so sure
There will always be room for generalists

10:20 PM
@ewwhite @HopelessN00b beyond a certain point you need more than a generalist

The DevOps bubble will burst after a few more high profile failures

@MarkHenderson True, but at an ever-decreasing level of demand and average payscale.

once you start into enterprise storage and the like you need someone who knows those systems inside-out and upside-down

I'm seeing it from this perspective...

@MarkHenderson Which would be fine with me. I think I'll double-down my bets in the meantime.

10:22 PM
I'm at a place where big companies pay us upwards of $150k/mo. for our services.
so that they don't need an expert DBA, CCIE, Linux gurus, Windows admin...

@MarkHenderson Maybe, maybe not. Dumber ideas have succeeded. Honestly, how different is half your time "sysadmining" and half your time developing internal "code" from life as a decent SA now? For all the time I spend scripting and SQLing, I don't imagine knocking out some CRUD app for an internal process is going to be difficult, or even anything I haven't done a bunch already.

@ewwhite which is a perfectly fair model :)

@voretaq7 So the industry is hollowing-out...

@voretaq7 For everyone who can afford 150k a month in hosting. Which isn't most businesses.

PC tech are needed... helpdesk are needed...

10:27 PM
@HopelessN00b doesn't cost $150k for smaller environments, I'm sure.

Oh, our clients range from $2k to $100k+

if you're asking for AD/Exchange management for 50 people that's going to cost less than AD/Exchange/VPN/Load-Balancing/DBA/NetAdmin for a 30,000 person enterprise

but my first question was, "why the eff would some company pay US when they have their own staff?"

@ewwhite Ah, interesting. But still just a shift rather than a radical change. So future admins work for hosting companies and datcenters rather than for businesses directly. Still the same guys doing the same job.

@ewwhite Because it's cheaper.

10:29 PM
We're not cheaper in some cases.
I come from trading, where we bought our own colo space, comms lines, hardware and wrote our own software... for these firms paying my firm $1+ million/year for hosting, they could have definitely done it on their own
but then comes the challenge of finding people good enough...
but now the trading firms can't keep talent

@ewwhite It's still cheaper if you consider the degree of loss involved if a contracted vendor defaulting on the terms of a contract.

@ewwhite Ah, the cost of attracting, finding and retaining good people is very much a part of the cost of IT.

My old trading firm pushed me out...
and now they have needs, but can't find anyone good enough...

@ewwhite Why is that, if you don't mind my asking? One of those "not getting how important IT is until they don't have it" things?

my boss said something like, "the only Linux people we can find are people who expand LVM partitions all day"
@HopelessN00b Moonlighting.

10:34 PM
@ewwhite But there's always going to be a paucity of talent at the top 1%.

@ewwhite Ah, more a rank stupidity thing. Yeah, I get that too. If they can't deal with it, phuck 'em.

@HopelessN00b It was Goldman Sachs-related... and it caused a lot of trouble for me
But now I know what to do... and I've been smarter from a legal perspective.

Ah, well... yeah, I guess there was a lot of fallout from that cataclysm.

@HopelessN00b Oh, just being blackballed by some powerful people...

@ewwhite But now you know better for next time, and you've got the bank account details of all the powerful people you work for, "just in case," right?

10:41 PM
@HopelessN00b You can't live in Chicago and NOT know how that particular ball bounces and who runs the city. Not if you want to get anywhere, that is.

@HopelessN00b I bounced back quite well.

Makes Ohio sounds better and better.
Well, less crappy.

jrg
No, Ohio is pretty crappy.
Well, Cleveland is.

@jrg You got it right the first line. It's Ohio, and Cleveland's bad luck to be in Ohio.

@jrg Yep. At least I only had to drive through it a few times/year.

jrg
10:44 PM
@Adrian Take it from someone who lives here: While the opportunities are second to none (If I was anywhere else I wouldn't have a job in tech at 16), the lake is depressing, the weather is wonderful 8 days out of the year, and despite being in a "central" location nobody wants to visit. ;P

@jrg I lived in Rochester NY for 10+ years, I understand completely =)

@jrg Could be worse. You could be in Columbus.

jrg
@HopelessN00b You mean that city the size of a full county?
Nope, I'm glad I'm in Cleveland - at least up here, when the politicians get corrupt the FBI goes in and nabs 'em. They don't do that in Cbus. :P

@jrg No, the overgrown cow-town the size of a county.

jrg
@HopelessN00b Ah. I misunderstood.

10:47 PM
What kind of stupid signup procedure is this? To get 100Mbps HFC internet, you need to sign up for their 30Mb regular coax internet, and once that's connected, they will upgrade you onto the 100Mbps HFC system
And yet all over thei website it has "Sign up for HFC online now!"

jrg
@MarkHenderson sounds like an engineer designed it.

@MarkHenderson Sounds like a scam...

Yeah, welcome to my life. "Sign up for FIOS now!" `Sorry, residential FIOS service is not currently available in your state.`

Assholes.

jrg
You'd think that with all the tracking stuff they'd be able to target them more...
but oh no, even though our buying habits aren't considered sacred, our exact location is - or at least they pretend that it is. When it suits them.

@jrg My theory is that they know, and they're just being jerks about it. Makes me feel better about dousing their commercial fiber pedestals in gasoline and tossing a lit cigarette.

jrg

Heh. I assure you, any assumptions of intelligence or competence from a major telco carrier is an unjustified assumption unless and until corroborating evidence is produced.

r0ar - i flee

Sweet, finally done with work for the day. Say, any of you Linux gurus want to do my job for me and punch up an awesome script, or should I just post a question on the main site asking for teh codez?

@HopelessN00b Go learn some Python. =)
So HowTF exactly do you deal with a padawan that chooses not to comply with policy even if the director has instructed him to do so and the director chooses not to do anything about it?

11:09 PM
@Adrian Tough, normally I'd discipline him
But if your superiors aren't concerned with him breaking policy..

@MarkHenderson Which I wouldn't care about if it didn't F over the rest of the team.

@Adrian So he's not being a team player, but management doesn't seem to care
Is this the same guy that fucked with your printer that time?

@MarkHenderson Yep. And yep.

Sounds like an ongoing issue

@MarkHenderson I guess the ultimate issue is the boss's inability to lead. and there's only 1 solution for that, which I'm working on.
Padawans figure out quite well when they've got a good thing going and how to abuse it to their benefit.

11:12 PM
@Adrian Absolutally. I had a cushy gig once that I could have kept for a looooonnngg time if I didn't take it one step too far

@MarkHenderson I remember that story. =)

I can't say i would know what to do to be honest, thankfully people here seem to take a one-on-one meeting quite seriously and tend to shape up

@MarkHenderson Yeah, the problem here is that such discussion don't stick. Padawan in question has decided that his prioritization of follow-up tasks and ticket management are less important than the parts he deems urgent (ie., things he's likes to do) and he rationalizes the instructions away before he's back to his desk.
Ah, well. Bitching ain't gonna change that either.
OTOH, tossing Python scripting onto the resume might make it moot.

So, I just turned Katie's old Droid into a security cam so I can watch my cat at work.
I have too much free time

@Adrian Actually, my boss was all PerlPerlPerlPerl like... it was a nekkid supermodel or something. So I think it's gonna be in Perl.

11:24 PM
BTW, I'm slowly creeping up on epic.

@HopelessN00b Sounds like those guys ewwhite used to work with before they shoved him out. Linux ALL THE THINGS.

@MDMarra Write me a Perl script? :D

Sorry, I don't fuck with that voodoo black magic bullshit

@Adrian Well, it is for our Avamar system, so given that it's on Linux, it might be somewhat Linux-y, yeah.
So, you're content to make *me* do **my** job?

Damn man, that's just... mean.

@HopelessN00b I believe most of us would also be content with you delivering tasty alcoholic beverages to us. ;)

11:33 PM
@freiheit As long as you don't mind getting a lot of 7-packs of beer and twentieths of liquor, I could do that.

@HopelessN00b As long as the booze keeps flowing
