Anyone know how to stop chrome from opening up when I reboot?

It doesn't open for me by default, in Windows you need to change the startup programs
Can't remember exactly how off the top of my head

Got it, you right-click on the icon in the dock and there's an option.
Gonna reboot, later folks!

Good luck!
I better get to sleep. It's past midnight now. Cya all :)

Hah. My client finally sent the content files. Now I can finish the layout on this thematic trainwreck.
I'm going with an all-typography design for this poster because although it's still going to be rife with Unfortunate Implications, they'll be somewhat obscured compared to any visual I could possibly use that the client would accept.
Also it's a good opportunity to stretch my typography muscles; I really want to get better at this.

@DumbNic @BESW That did it; the problem went away.
I'm in Chrome now, I reopened illustrator. Oddly, I can drag stuff around now. Could this have something to do with chrome opening at startup?

12:17 AM
Could do.
If the problem comes back after you've been using the programs for a while, then you'll have to go through all your Chrome apps and figure out which one(s) to disable.
In my experience, it took about half an hour after a restart for the clipboard bug to kick in, presumably because of my copy/paste habits.

Maybe I needed a system restart after disabling the pushbullet setting?

Mebbee? Some users said it fixed the issue right away, others said they had to reboot, others said they had to disable Pushbullet entirely.
But all the threads which had a click-and-drag symptom that went away on system reboot concluded that it was a Chrome app problem.

If this issue comes back, I'll disable pushbullet entirely. If that doesn't do it, I'll start going through chrome apps that use the clipboard.

I hope you've got it licked. I know how awful it is to have an error like this.

I'll update the SU answer as I go. Thanks for helping me narrow this all down.

12:29 AM
No problem. I'm glad someone can benefit from my misery.
(Now I have to learn the CS6 interface because I upgraded from 5.5 as part of trying to get this bug to go away.)

LOL

Dear Internet: there is a difference between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. I love them both, but please try to learn why my love for each of them is its own unique and special unicorn.

6:02 AM
isn't this question off topic as it asks for brain storming?
@JohnB or another mod: you might mention the missing styles issue to a staff member in the moderator chatroom

3 hours later…
9:28 AM
@BESW hear hear hear

10:05 AM
@ZachSaucier it's a little bit in between... I think it can stay if we edit it
although people at ux.se would probably answer with some nice graphs, they have the balsamiq plugin for wireframing
which makes me think: Would we benefit from that plugin?

10:23 AM
I agree that it could fit on both ux and here

hi Vincent!

hey Yisela

how is it going?
also, do you think we should have Balsamiq? :D

okay. working hard to keep an assignment
I dunno. I haven't really tried it

ah, won't distract you then

10:28 AM
that's okay :)
how're you? finding some new work?

I got contacted by two people, now I have to wait and see if my pitching worked :)

ah, nice! crosses fingers what kind of work would that be?
design or writing?

design, but all very small projects
some template changes

just flex those muscles!

remember my MahJong? I'm thinking of hiring someone to finish the coding

10:32 AM
ah, nice!
that shouldn't bee too hard, no? Ask @ZohmB to make it during a hackathon and you're set ;)

hahaha
is that going to be his name from now on? xD

at least for yesterday

we have a minion and a zombie, I am clearly the respectable one

lol
and here I am, being the kitty
I'm curious when our 'Murrican friends are going to come online today. There's feet of snow falling in the East

yeah, I saw the pics

10:46 AM
I mean, at least New York has grinded to a halt

3 hours later…
2:05 PM
ah, he's back to @JohnB

morning Vincent

3:11 PM
hey @Ryan

I should get the Reviewer badge for first posts today :D

the bronze, the silver or the gold? ;)

silver
been stealing them all up recently

thumbs up

haha
moving up the rep chart as well. So weird to me to see such few active users
I made a new page on my blog for people getting into web stuff. Several of my GD answers are linked there zachsaucier.com/blog/resources.html

I have mixed feelings about Apple's smart watch coming out soon. Some insight as to what apps will look like on it

5:13 PM
It looks very "first gen"

@ZachSaucier I think it looks super nice, but if I wanted to do a money transfer, for example, I'd rather use my phone

for most everything I'd rather use a smart phone

having smartphones solving most needs, so I think the challenge is to find a use that is exclusive to something you wear on your wrist

mainly, a phone requires only one hand. using that watch requires two
I'd rather not authorise my payments by voice :)

when I was thinking of apps for this thing, the most 'useful' stuff I could come up with was medical

5:19 PM
what I wish they'd come out with is a non-visible, non-intrusive mic + ear bud (or implant) combo to where I can subvocalize commands and here a response - like the setup in that Ender has in the Ender's Game

things like... measure your glucose levels

blood pressure, heartrate
@ZachSaucier I bet they're planning htat for later models

@Yisela they're already doing that as an attachment to smart devices - won't have all the other apps
(I don't mean the watch - I mean other devices)

yep, but if it's a helth thing you'd rather have it around your wrist

sure

5:21 PM
you could also have information stored there in case something happens to you, like blood type, allergies, etc

my bet is they'll get something like that down to a small wristband

maybe

no need for a screen, at least a big square one, on a device like that

like a fitbit?

it will probably sell though, I can imagine lots of people wanting to show off :)

5:22 PM
they're coming out with screens as this as paper, so that'll help

a friend has a smart watch and she does use it for emails, messages and alarms
maybe the whole wristband will be a screen

it'll at least do better than Google Glass because it's less intrusive

yeah
well, glass seems to not be doing so well... everyone is apparently too paranoid about having someone potentially filming them
but for specific uses it can mean a revolution... I can only think of medical examples for some reason! imagine using glass as help while performing surgery

@Yisela FYI they're discontinuing it

really?
oh :(

5:24 PM
@Yisela have you seen the Microsoft competition?
Hololens?

@Vincent no, what's its name?>

they just announced it last week

"Microsoft CEO Talks "Mind-Blowing" Gaming Potential for HoloLens". Seems like a hit if it can be used for games

it needs lots of dev and miniaturisation, but its comparable in function

it's holograms!
the official site is beautiful
(the uses)
omg that tiny minecraft house!!!!!!!!

5:28 PM
this reminded me a lot of the VR games you can play on a 3DS
they do the same trick with your environment, and have features coming out of the woodwork. On the 3SD it's just the 3DS screen, of course

yes! I saw some kids playing with it and couldn't believe it
I think they were playing something where they had to find objects... maybe by color, not sure how it worked, I didn't want to look too intensely

it's funny, though a bit restrictive. It needs a reference card you put on a surface, and if it loses track of that, it won;t work

aaaah
cool

I'll show you when I teach you how to play MahJongg :)

I really look forward to that sort of technology though

5:30 PM
@Vincent you have one??
yay!!

bf gave me one for Christmas

ahhh!! when he confused you about the mahjong set!

wait, bf?
lol

@ZachSaucier me too. It's as if some tech dev has been dormant for some 15 years
uh, yeah

I'm guessing Vincent is your cat then?

5:31 PM
nope, Vincent is my name :)

nope, Vincent and Ernst are a couple :)

Oohhhh
ok
was about to say I had no idea you were a girl

</awkward> :)

5:33 PM
but srsly, end 80s, start of 90s things like these were on every futurologist's radar
but the last 15, 20 years, no progress at all

I never sign up for anything, esp microsoft, but I want to sign up to their mailing list!
yes! I had this cut-out of a magazine, where they showed "the computers of the future", ahd there was a guy wearing all sorts of gigantic gadgets
imagine a real-size PC keyboard on the forearm
(I'm trying to find it online)

things like those. I remeber there being a 'VR cave' in Amsterdam in 92 or so. You could experience rudimentary VR with a headset about as heavy as five Oculi.

@ZachSaucier nice website!! I had the tab and just saw it
haha

@Yisela Thanks! Do you mean zachsaucier.com?

yes

5:39 PM
I need to update it but I have no time
finally got around to fixing some blatant errors on my blog yesterday

you have a lot of content

I really want to finish up my web app I'm making, but school drains alllll my time

what kind of app?

@Yisela I wish I had more xD For how much I write and such I need to have more good, usable demos. A lot of the stuff I have now are just visualizations I made for fun and for testing
@Yisela it's a date app :) meaning an app I use for dates

you have so many dates you need an app?
;)

5:41 PM
I'll eventually get around to making a backend for it for others to use, right now I'm focusing on the structure, design, and content
with some lovely animations and comments mixed in to make it a lovely experience
@Yisela I dated a girl for several years. Now I'm not, I enjoy hanging out with some new people :)

cool! kudos on having personal projects

plus it's improving my design skills and a keeping my web programming fresh, as in school I do little of it
@Yisela I have more than you can imagine xD the plague of programmers is that we have too many and never finish them

'unfinished ideas', I hear you

yeah, well, I think it's a well spread plague, I have lots of design projects that died young

lots of them just a scribble, some of them a single *.ai file, most of them just mind-aether

5:44 PM
and all lost in a folder of "personal stuff" that has become impossible to sort :P
mind-aether XD

I can't claim copyright for mind-aether, but I love the term

I feel like most of those take less time to scribble than the code I've written for non-finished projects, haha

one of the most important unfinished ideas is my own website :/
the last time I made a serious design is almost two years ago, and that one wasn't implemented

oh yes... designers should have other designers making their websites

not sure if my comment is enough to be an answer
I suppose I could flesh it out a bit

5:51 PM
haha if you have time and want to, I'm not sure how many regular users here are on GitHub

eh, it's somewhat irrelevant TBH. It's more so an answer of what a designer can do stepping into any project

but there are rules, I'm sure. You can't just jump in... or well, I don't know, that's why I'm asking
also graphic design + github might be a good search term (site seo)

@Yisela, might I take some measures to protect you from yourself?
you need paid work, not more unpaid work :P

what do you mean?
hahaha
but it would be portfolio
;)

this's what lots of people tell me when they want something for free: 'it'll build portfolio'. And then I'm often like 'Did you actually see my portfolio?'

5:55 PM
haha
I support open source by principle, being that I don't have that much work you could also argue it's the perfect time to contribute

touché :)

@Vincent if you wrote all that together in one sentence I'd star the hell out of it

there you go

danke!

yup, no hell left there :P

6:00 PM
what do you call a company's "feel" in respect to how it's portrayed in design? What's the design word for that?
I'm blanking

eh... I know the Dutch term, but can't translate
identity?
visual identity?

visual identity sounds good to me
brand.. something

ya, both good

branding
good. time to go home
see you peeps 'round, have a nice day :)

see ya, Vincent!

6:09 PM
see you!!

what do you call the word content of a page? I know it, blanking again...

copy?

:)
ah! you wrote an answer!!
very nice, man
thanks
I love the first part, and it instantly made me think of the kind of projects I would like to help with
I'll take a look at yours too

hah, it's an old project
please look for others before choosing to work with mine, haha
that would mean I'd have to work on it again, hahaha

6:14 PM
how can I actually see it?
do you want to work on it?

@Yisela good question. Currently I only have to where you have to run it. 1 min
I'm fine with working on it, just busy :P
I have a demo of it, just have to find it

ok, I'll start researching to see what's out there. I already starred it

wowow forgot how old this project is, haha. Apparently my script is broken since the last time I worked on it (dang code)

ouch

any way, if it's your favorite idea you come across (I doubt it will be) let me know
fixing it shouldn't be bad at all

6:19 PM
I will
it's a nice project

it taught me a good bit already

6:53 PM
hello @Noctrine

7:19 PM
hey

how goes the game dev-ing?

Right now kind of slow, but I've got some fun stuff

any reason why you're in here? :P

This is one of the rooms I have starred, so when I click join others, or wahtever it is - it pops me in here.
I also quite like graphics design
Pay no attention to the blue-ness of my name :p

haha, I looked at your profile :)

3 hours later…
10:10 PM
shoot, the silver reviewer badge is at 250, not 200 like I thought xD

10:52 PM
Oh.... just learned rsync for my Mac... thank heaven :) I've got double-digit terabytes to transfer after my RAID failures :)

1 hour later…
11:57 PM
I got so much rep today \o/
