12:11 AM
This Projector lens has such amazing qualities to it. Got to work on trying to get it a little sharper but still. That's completely unedited, outside... in a bush. In front of other plants and buildings and such.
@johnp

wow from the preview i thought it was cut out...the depth of field is super thin
what shutter speed did you take that with

ISO 50 at 1/50th
excuse me I lowered the Highlights in lightroom. That's the only thing I edited

i find that small flowers and leaves can be very sensitive to slight breezes or atmospheric crap. you might be able to eliminate some of that halo with a faster speed
or maybe it's just that the depth of field is so thin lol. really impressive

I could probably go a bit faster, it was overcast out this evening
I got two others that are a little sharper with it but liked the comp of that one the best

it has a nice flow to it

12:21 AM
that last one was at 1/60 so yeah you're probably right, if I go faster it'll get sharper

it's prob more to do with camera shake being more obvious at macro scale

camera I don't know, hand yes.
Camera is on tripod but the lens isn't attached at all, I'm just holding it inside the tubes

it's really interesting how that lens can isolate the flowers....it's like a space vortex @_@
oh the tubes dont secure it?

no they just keep the light out when you focus in and out

perhaps those helicoid tubes might lock it in place
i wont be getting that lens until im working, or my next marriage

12:25 AM
There's some complex ways to secure it in place but its really complicated. Like PVC pipe, two different adapters, a helicoid and a bellows

u gunna do that?

no lol

ha

I'm enjoying it like this, spent $20 on it, can't complain. But I'm not going to sink a ton into it

I think I can draw noses now lol
It's my Achilles heel

12:36 AM
nice. Working on something good?

just constructing heads from anatomy references...nothing exciting. I'm hoping if I do it often enough I'll master it.
Me trying to figure out nose anatomy... youtu.be/Oa7Ttik1Gw4?t=5s

lol is that a pelvis

haha

2 hours later…
2:33 AM
@Ryan you watching the presidential debate? xD

3:00 AM
yep I was

i just saw the end on fb live...
trying to find facial muscles in use and surprisingly there aren't many resources for it aside from naming the muscles of the face... my emoji muscles chart idea might actually be a good idea!
this is the best i could find...and it isn't that great

there are a few diagrams on there but I'm looking for muscles in use...i.e. contractions for smiling, frowning etc... my obsessive study is quite frightening when i think about it lol
and they say knowledge is free...100 dollars for the book

can't find it at a library or even used?

nah it's an ebook...actually still on pre order till december...it looks like the best resource thus far though.

2 hours later…
5:16 AM
@johnp hey there was a book that showed all the muscles in the face i remeber reading while studying animation. IT had a atlas of all muscles separately.

5:30 AM
@johnp But here you are basically complaining about why pay for design. The images are exceptionally nice and the crowd interested will be quite narrow. So I imagine the costs are too

3 hours later…
8:39 AM
@joojaa fair point :P In any case, I'm pretty sure I'll buy it if it gets published

Well there you go

I know the muscles pretty well already but I'm interested in what muscles are activated for different expressions. For example, the risorius muscle contracts to result in an insincere smile if the zygomaticus major and minor don't contract also
I think this is actually a field in psychology...mentalism(?) - reading facial expresssions
not sure if that's the word actually
how is @joojaa on this fine september morning?

Fine. The outer window pane on my work window broke because of inadequate shielding at the construction just outside our office when they were doing demolitions work.
Other than that i have been mainitaining the equiplent and building h-bridges.

mmm that's not nice

yeah luckily the rock did not pierce the window
just the outer pane of the 4 layer glass

8:50 AM
you're well insulated then :3

all Finnish houses have 3 pane windows or more
i mean it nearly yearly gets to be -20 degrees celcius here and every 3-5 years to -30 and below.

Hmm cold.... I always say I'd like to move somewhere warmer but I do love the drudgery and misery of winter here lol. I must visit Scandinavia at some point
you ever go skiing?

@johnp Yes ive been skiing it was kinda mandatory in school and in the army

wow. also nice insight into your past :P

Well army and school are kindof manadatory too
I mean you might be able to avoid school, army service not so much (ok so you can exhange it to civil service but then it doubles your length)

8:58 AM
you have conscription in Finland??

@johnp yes

Very surprised at that...

@johnp im pretty sure you would have conscription too if you had a 1 340 km long border with Russia

Ah, that makes more sense actually :P Ireland's army would be much smaller...peace keeping missions with the UN flooding patrols and that sort of thing
They've been involved a lot in the refugee rescue missions
It would be nice if the country would actually take on more refugees, however.

finnish army is actually quite big, and has quite a sizeable field artillery

9:05 AM
does it have a nuclear program?

apparently CIA lists Finnland as will have nuclear power in 2 days if wanted

lol I see. Ireland aren't even on that index you linked me!

Yeah i noticed

taking neutrality to a whole new level

@johnp Finnland is neutral only we actually have threaths you do not. FInland and sweeden have been talking about joining forces due to this pressure.
ANd nato is on the table aswel regularily
Also having fought 2 wars with russia just 2 generations ago is also part of the issue

1 hour later…
10:33 AM
really? I had no idea @joojaa

11:23 AM
@johnp no idea of anyo of it or just the last one?

vaguely knew of the war with Russia but wasn't aware of any current threats

well unless you noticed its just but a few years since Russia last annexed a piece of territory form one of its neighbors

just read an article about it... ridiculous in this day & age

12:03 PM
hey all

welcome back @Vincent
you back from your holidays?

thanks! :D
yup.

how was it :3

just started working again today. What have I missed?
amazing.

not much that i can think of... usual tomfoolery

12:07 PM
will definitely return :D

very nice ^^ all rested?

mostly. the jet lag is a bit persistent
didn't manage to sleep during the flight back :/
how are your flowers coming along?

aw power naps may help get you back on track
:O has it been that long?

it's the last project I remember you fiddling with ;)

i havent touched the flowers in a while...the pattern is finished all to tweak curves and colours a little
ive been studying anatomy lately... i may scan some sketches i did actually...i got frustrated last night and rushed the last one

12:11 PM
ooh, challenging subject

just doing the head & neck mainly thus far, but I want to study expressions so I can construct frowny people lol. So where did you go again on your travels, the states?

yup. California and New York, mainly
we did a road/track trip in CA, hitting SF, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Monterey, LA and San Diego

ooh fauncé that's a dream holiday :)
what stuck out as ur favourite stop

well, we crammed all of it in under three weeks. so it was still good but felt a bit rushed now & then
Monterey and San Diego
both were way nicer and more laid back places than I had expected

12:28 PM
nice. i have family in san diego but im not sure im close enough to em to warrant a stay xD
id love to see the west coast

I can dis-recommend LA, though

really why so?

wow
that looks awesome!

btw that was my first time using photomerge, very handy

well, it's just a huge sprawling cityscape with very little exciting places. Few interesting buildings, little character
...photomerge?

12:30 PM
thanks...i messed up on the side view at the eye and here and there, but it serves to learn the muscles i guess...im hoping if i draw it often enough it'll drill into my pea-brain
i know what you mean...yeah photoshop's stitching feature...not sure i ever used it before

ah ok

Vincent returns! :)
Glad to hear it was enjoyable. You make it to San Diego Zoo and La Jolla?
oh and Tijuana? I would've liked to have made it down there just to say I had been to Mexico

guess who's back :P
SD Zoo, yes. Tijuana wasn't on our list, mainly because we had only two nights in SD
In retrospect, that was a crying shame, 'cos SD turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip. Love that place
SD Zoo is legendary. Possibly the best zoo I've ever been to
how are you, @Ryan?

yep I've technically been but I don't remember. My mom talks about it all the time though
@Vincent eh, someone hit my car on Friday and took off leaving me with a large bill on the repairs but otherwise good. Trying to not think about it

@Ryan that sucks! :(
insurance?

12:39 PM
$1000 deductible so that's what I have to pay then if it goes over it'll be covered
So, not exactly helpful unless someone hits me again

what's the damage?

Needs a new rear fender. Can't tell if the underlying support was bent at all
When I realized the car behind me wasn't going to stop I sped up as best I could and the person did turn right to try and avoid me but they hit the back right side
Then after they turned right they just kept going :\

expletive deleted

In other news there's been a second coming around here if you didn't see
Scott and Confused both returned. Go-Junta has at least shown up on review queue. And a couple of new members seem to have joined

I haven't really checked yet
Trying to wrestle through 200 non-spam e-mails :)

12:55 PM
I'd love to know what these 9999999 rep members do for a living :)

1:08 PM
i am a workshop master at the scool of art and design @johnp
Tough i dont have 9999999

I'm a potato

haha

really its about Dividends. We get 60,000 visitors a day. If you answer enough questions well that are also popular chances are there's a few visitors a day looking at it so you can put in less work at that point and still be receiving payoffs
StackExchange Reponomics

What I meant was, I'm curious as to what these super efficient people are like in their daily lives
I envy people like that. There's this illustrator I follow - Archan Nair. He churns out work like a factory... I live in hope for the day I'm that productive

1:27 PM
I'm thinking about selling on Adobe's new stock platform.
morning @ElizabethHart lurking again :)

She only has 14 rep, not enough to chat

Do chats from questions not have the rep requirement?

She has explicit write access in that room

Ah well I just upvoted her one question so now she's got 24 rep. Problem solved!

yay! you should be able to talk now @Elizabeth (or maybe refresh if you still can't)

1:41 PM
Trying to find that red flower in the actual collection and can't

Ryan are you in the mood for another one of my questions lol

sure, I'm waiting for InDesign to update anyways
ah found it. $500.00 to license a flower photo. I feel like I could offer photos at this high quality: stock.adobe.com/premium/5tfVn207JWT08cKZ9XBtED76Rshhnm2j

I kind of mentioned it to you before - the question about using liquify on a drawing...I tried frequency separation but it doesn't work that well as some of the linework gets caught up in the frequency if that makes sense... I'll grab a screenshot

but I wonder if in the end you make more with the premium hoping it gets sold a few times a year or with regular ones getting sold frequently

hey @JohnB long time no see ;)
and hi lurking @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ

1:45 PM
Welcome back! I'm glad to see you liked SD, fantastic city indeed

thx :) Also really liked NY, but man is Manhattan a busy place

oh I didnt remember you went to NYC
First time in the Big Apple?

heh yeah that's quite a contrast to go from the laid back side of the country to the opposite

@Vincent HAPPY DAY, How was your trip! you relaxed and of sound mind?
@Ryan can we make you into vodka?

Yeah, it was my first time in the states

1:50 PM
@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ I am Russian so probably

I hope we left you a good impression

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ you did! It was a great trip and especially CA was amazing. Great views, relaxed atmosphere and very friendly people

so what was your favorite location?

Sorry for all the politics, I swear it's only this intense every 4 years :P

@Ryan I took your lead and did some flower photography. Some of the stuff, mainly from Santa Cruz UC Arboretum, will end up on my IG :)

1:52 PM
@JohnB oh you mean the comedy session?

@JohnB nah, it's okay. I've grown used to it :)

@Vincent nice! I'm trying to figure out how to get to Santa Cruz when I'm in San Jose in January. Its looking more expensive than I expected so not sure if I'll be able to stay like I had hoped

try AirBnB
we stayed at AirBnBs roughly half of the time and most of them were great

@Vincent airbnb??

and some of them offer great quality for dirt cheap

1:54 PM

you essentially stay in someone's spare bedroom

I looked at them but its too early it seems

this offers great opportunities to actually connect with locals

@Ryan So I'm trying to liquify the sketch to fix some proportions/improve symmetry. I'm trying frequency separation to maintain the texture but as the linework is dark, it's getting picked up on the paper texture (high freq. ) layer - see left eye overlay

I joined Couch Surfing too to look into
the person I contacted on AirBNB had an amazing place in Santa Cruz marked at $40/night I was going to jump at. When I contacted them they apologized saying it shouldn't be up at all yet for those dates and when they do put up its $90 a night :(

1:57 PM
ah, that's also great. It's even more involved--most hosts expect you to spend time with them

they have a place right on the beach with spare surf boards and stuff
yeah I'm going to contact a few on CouchSurfing if I find any that are into photography. Could be fun that way
of course I've never used it so I have no rep on there which might work against me
@johnp so you want to liquefy the lines without liquefying the texture? Won't the texture be in the wrong place if you do that?

well id like to keep the paper texture and liquify the drawing

oh. Probably easier to just scan or photograph however you put it into the computer a blank piece of the same paper you're using and reapply the texture if you need to
but give me a few and Ill see if I can come up with a solution without having to do that

so would you use difference to mask out the moved/liquified pixels
i dont mind cloning in some paper texture if the drawing is preserved
it's been over a month since ive been in photoshop, i feel like im dumbing down

@johnp Imagine how I feel, back at my desk for the first time in about a month :P

2:06 PM
yeah it's not a nice feeling!
also cc has me feeling weird since i signed up

meh. Up till now, all I did was forget to change one of my Hexagon hexes.

ill send you that drawing via dropbox @Ryan

I'm trying to get actual work done for a change but I have an idea on it. I'll look after I make some progress on this project

yeah of course, no rush on it.

2 hours later…
4:07 PM
@JohnB Took this one for you. It's a shop in a farmer's market, completely dedicated to various hot sauces. I'm afraid you'd all find them terribly bland ;)

oh wow, that looks amazing

one of the few nice things we saw in LA ;)

hahah

some of them had the most inappropriate names referring to the feeling the sauce would give to your digestive system

hah I've seen a few like that

4:14 PM
weee just got another feature on Instagram. Little by little
2nd re-post this week. Now if only it would translate to paying jobs or followers

nice!

2 hours later…
6:27 PM
hello room

hello world

loving v for vendetta so far

He just released a 1,000 page novel. I don't think I've got the nerve to read it

really!
lol why not?
im already wondering what ill do with my life once i finish it...though Besw gave me a nice list of novels to read

6:42 PM
the much needed work lamp i ordered is stuck on a cargo ship due to some workers strike ¬_¬ even though I was notified that it was dispatched... I have a bad case of the frownies

7:14 PM
@johnp if you ordered from amazon you can try to get a shipping refund. I managed to get it for the extension tubes I ordered because they were a day late

the retailer wont even have the lamp till the 19th...and there's a cheaper prime seller now with one day delivery....i hope they gimme a refund and cancellation
currently have 3 spotlights working out of 10 in the kitchen xD

7:36 PM
Code highlighting is now enabled on GD.SE

I take full credit :P hahaha

7:49 PM
@johnp should take a look at theispot.com
Looking through some publications I get a few of them all get illustrations from there. One seems to have even contacted an artist on it for a commission piece when they couldn't find something for the article

8:22 PM
hi @AshleePalka

Hi!
I didn't realize there were chat rooms on the site so I thought I'd pop in and have a look

yep. Some times are more active than others in the chat

8:39 PM
@Ryan but I had to nuke a planet so this site could get code highlighting. . . What did you do!?!?!

I pinged the high council. BOOM!
Is there a high council? I'm really not a star wars person lol

Maybe, but we will have to go through and edit the tag wiki for highlighting to work

sounds like a job for someone else

Cant, tim says the mods would have to do it, lol
Ill do it tomorrow

1 hour later…
9:49 PM
@Ryan lol that sentence. thanks for the illustration linky, ill have a look
