Q: Syntax highlighting for tags

DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀThe sith lord Tim has granted us the usgae of syntax highlighting for GD.SE but since this isnt automatically highlighted the mods have to assign the language syntax to the tag. If you see a tag assigned to a question that could use syntax highlighting for GD.SE please place each tag suggestion ...

Anyone around who knows much about animation in Photoshop? A solution was proposed for this question, which Im trying to use (animating a smart object within another file's animation), but it isnt working as JooJaa claims it should. graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/77649/…

6 hours later…
10:36 AM
@Viziionary you can try and ping @joojaa, he's usually around :)

11:16 AM
@Vincent like now

11:32 AM
Hello @ElizabethHart

@joojaa for example

@Vincent I am for example?

lol. How how is our resident Suomo? Or whatever the word is that you use to describe people from your country :P

Suomi
Maybe you mean Suomi -> Suomalainen
anyway fine, i am now workshop master at the school of arts and design

I heard as much
less technical job?

11:43 AM
No more

ooh, that sounds like it's up your alley :)

I am designing a new 200m^2 electronics workshop for the university

wow

Though right now im trying to make the current workshop comply with safety regulations

so no students get electrocuted? :P

11:59 AM
With 9-5V DC power?
I wrote a sign saying "No mains voltage work without supervision"

ah it'll spark them
and... voltage alone doesn't say much. If you apply that with 2 or 3 A, it's still deadly

hello Bad Breath :P

how can you smell my breathe under my helmet

ok, Raspy Breath then :P
how are you holdin gup?
still plastered with work?

12:12 PM
trying to energize this morning
ya just about that, I stopped working as much on the wekeend

thumbs up
more R&R?

12:38 PM
morning sunshines

@Vincent true but the power supply cuts output at 1A

hey @Ryan

@DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ Its expected why else the helmet

1:03 PM
@joojaa huh?

1:14 PM
hey @Vincent I didn't even ask, did you see the Seals in San Diego? The animals variety, not the Navy type lol

lol! We heard some in the harbour, and saw lots of them in Snta Cruz and Monterey. does that count?

lol sure it counts. I didn't know they had them up north too but makes sense
I bought my sleep cocktail for the first time in a while. Its so expensive but forgot how great that stuff is. Passionflower Extract
I should really try taking it next time I take other things too lol

there are a bunch of them terrorising the lower parts of the Santa Cruz pier.

its such an awful smell

Oh, I didn't really notice
just laughed at their antics

1:30 PM
oh look, it's beer:30

morning @DᴀʀᴛʜVᴀᴅᴇʀ @joojaa and @ElizabethHart
@joojaa haven't seen you in a few, new job keepin ya busy?

@ElizabethHart welcome

@Ryan had trouble lately?

always. Was bad for a few days last week so bought benadryl cause its cheap but decided to pick up the good stuff yesterday instead. Works so much better

meh.
I've had some jet lag shenanigans myself, but those seemed to have gone away since last night. Nothing as bad as you seem to have :/

1:37 PM
but yeah if you ever want to feel completely at ease try Passionflower Extract
not sure about in Europe, in the States its available at herbal shops and whole foods type of places

fortunately, you guys can get way more stuff over the counter in the States

regular grocers here don't carry it

I'm rather sure that Melatonin isn't available over the counter, and I'm not sure about Benadryl

woah really? You need a prescription for Melatonin??
What if you order from Amazon or is it just not available in your country off sites like Amazon?

yup
that is an easy way to get it
a friend of mine used to order it every once in a while that way
annoying thing about melatonin is that you grow resistant to it with a couple weeks

2:00 PM
@Ryan not so much but my timetables have changed so i am now not here when you are
now i gotta go home
bye

bye

2:26 PM
😁

hey it's our anatomist @johnp

Emojis make everything better
lol hey @Vincent

@Vincent took a photo of a living emoji in Los Angeles. I seen it!

anatomy of an emoji.....
that would be an interesting illustration idea

@JohnB just before I left, you showed me a trick to have Ai open a newer version *.eps. How did that go?
@Ryan lol

2:33 PM
@Vincent create a blank document and File > Place it

Thanks!

yup

@Ryan :D

📢 🐶
no vacuum emoji...had to improvise

2:47 PM
hmm working on a catalog and the effect I want to do is really hard to see if I got right without having a proper high end printer to do test runs on

what's the effect

faking depth of field with blurs and masks mostly because there's a bunch of dead trees in the background that don't look great

does photoshop do a good job of that without too much trouble these days
there's a plugin for that, (though i dont like plugins)

if you know what you're doing it can. Its really really really processor intense though

nom nom...intel chip mmm

2:53 PM
I think I have it at a good point now

a tutorial for that would be nice

still looks a bit too soft

maybe blur the background a lot more

thats the original. I cropped it to get rid of a lot of the trees but still find them ugly

I see what you mean. But... you can't really expect season's images to have full summer backgrounds. Except when you live Down Under.

2:59 PM
Think the mask is good I might just need to tone back the effect more so its not as drastic
yeah think that amount looks a lot better, what say y'all?

yeah it does

aye! more natural

3:31 PM
started watching requiem for the american dream last night....
anyone see it?

Never heard of it. I know the film Requiem for a Dream if that's what you mean

yeah that's what the name spun from. it's a documentary about capitalism with Naom Chomsky

This is a really nice campaign. Love how the static and animated came together: behance.net/gallery/43086527/Jordan-SuperFly-5

omg ryan flashback of that poor mother from Requiem for a Dream :O "I'mma gunna be on television"
@Ryan Yeah it turned out well. I saw his work in this design book I bought years ago but it works really well to see his style applied like that

I need to do more series work and build a proper portfolio and/or behance account. Might join AIGA as well. Need to do something to start getting involved and networking

3:56 PM
Sigh, wish I knew someone stupid rich or was stupid rich so I could get into that place for photos

I have a question.

hey Cow, long time no moo! :)
shoot.

I have a bunch of photos I shot with a very strong ND filters, and a bunch of photos I shot without it, and approximately the same exposure. I'm now trying to create a lut (or some other color correction magic thingy to correct photos shot with the ND filter to photos shot without it. Any tips on how to pull this off.
@Vincent :)

that's a @Ryan Q

I'm currently stacking the images and then using the color blend mode, which seems to do a good job, I just can't figure out how to lut it.

4:08 PM
Hi @GiantCowFilms if you can upload two of the images in question I can probably help you out real quick. Doubt it would take more than a few minutes and I'm getting ready to start my lunch anyways

@Ryan they are pretty huge

But basically you're going to want to use adjustment layers not stacking if you want to save it as a LUT
@GiantCowFilms you could send lower res, it shouldn't make much if any difference to colors just pixelation. As long as you send them the same resolution

actually, no, I have smaller versions of the relevant sections.
@Ryan only a small part of the image is useable
@Ryan I'm not stuck on luts if there is an alternate method. I'm rather adverse to eyeballing it, since I will need to apply this to a variety of very different photos

No I won't be eyeballing it
Info Panel, Info Panel, and more Info Panel. Let me see what you're working with and what you mean by only parts of the images are usable though

uploading will take a moment
@Ryan here you go:
thanks :)

4:19 PM
yeah I can't look until I get home unless you want to save lower res. Not really right for me to download 80mb files at the office
You on a time crunch or can I help you this evening?

evening is fine
I have a billion other problems to see too.
@johnp BTW, I published a draft of the tutorial you asked for: giantcowfilms.com/2016/09/21/rendering-stationary-in-blender
2

That looks like an awesome tut!

@GiantCowFilms Oh wow that's fantastic! 😄 You put so much work into it!
Thank you so much!
I'll be sure to show you my results when I put my portfolio together

:D
Still missing the last few steps, I'll get to those soon (I just have a ton of things I've promised to have done by November)

it looks deadly :) Thank you.
just had a quick read through but I'll look into it more later. Can I ask what a Fresnel node/shader does?
a type of gloss?

4:59 PM
@johnp I need to explain that.
@johnp it replicates a property of surfaces where they become more reflective if you look at them at more of a glancing angle.
it actually makes a noticeable difference.

@GiantCowFilms I see :) cool

6:01 PM
boop

blip

there's a Japanese garden near one of the places I'm going next week. Debating if its worth visiting.
They're doing a Lantern Ceremony that looks pretty cool in three weeks. Would be a lot better to go then if I want to make the drive back down

I love japanese stuff...hence the cherry blossom illustration I did
if you have time why not bring your camera next week, get some floral shots during the day

All I'm doing is taking photos next week. I took off from work --- have vacation time to kill
Photos, drinking, and maybe writing.

6:16 PM
sounds like heaven
you gunna start that book you mentioned before?
or something else

I already did start it

oh cool

Might get a bit bored during the day when its real hot out. Most of what I'll want to do will end up being from 6-9 when the sun is going down
one day Ill be at a really big garden but not sure what Ill do during the daytime the rest of it

if you're bored enough you could do outline sketches in the garden and paint and finish them at home

Maybe. Its basically I'm going to visit my grandparents who are about 3 hours from me, the Japanese Garden is right by them. Then sleep at their place and then head further south to Miami for the rest of the time. So I think I'll just go to the Japanese Gardens if I make good time to my grandparents and if not I won't bother.
There's a really big garden in Miami I'll be at the other time

6:23 PM
ah lovely
all this talk of people travelling and leaving lately makes me wanna fly away
I think I'll do a sketch of Pierre Perrier tonight.... I couldn't draw last night for some reason
he's from the Returned ^

Psh, you're so lucky and you don't even know it. I would love to live in Ireland. Such amazing landscapes everywhere and its not like its a massive country. You can drive from one side of the country to another not even including Northern Ireland in 6 hours
Go explore!
I would much rather spend a week or two in places like that than having to find artificial gardens here

Haha yeah Cork to Northern Ireland would be a long trip. I'm hoping to get a driving license within a year...I guess I could get a bus or whatever but most of those places are inaccessible otherwise. I live in the most boring part of the country lol.
the midlands ¬_¬
I've never heard of that monument before

Neither had I, just found it on Google. Its across in Northern Ireland though
but still, looks like it would be a nice excursion

6:39 PM
I'd like to explore some abandoned manors and buildings... There are a lot of undocumented manors just left abandoned to ruin around the country. I guess it's because many were owned by british landlords or something

Being outside of the US gives you really nice advantages on social media even if your focus is illustration. You can do photos once in a while of Ireland and it would give you something most don't have

I guess I'm not a big fan of landscape shots but if I was to do something like that I would probably visit places like this facebook.com/irelandderelict/?fref=ts
some of those albums are better than others
Yeah, you could be right...I miss adventures lol. I remember when I was little how I found a well underground nearby...there were steps down to it with brickwork overhead... There are some hidden things like that around that tourists wouldnt know about

I haven't done much Urbex at all. Have thought about it, but it just doesn't excite me that much

https://www.flickr.com/groups/1759007@N22/
https://www.flickr.com/groups/965438@N22/
May be better off with Flickr for urban exploration
Urbex!

Is that a new term to you or something?

6:50 PM
yeah lol

I live in Middle Earth, afterall

i knew what it was...just Urbex sounds kinda funny
wow that's an impressive collection

7:28 PM

does he mean ppi?

probably
I'm going to camera shop after work today to spend money I shouldn't be
new battery cause one of mine seems to have stopped working, then might also get a better plate for my tripod, and might get remote as well :( stupid money

what time is it there again

3:30
another hour and a half of work

oh didnt think it was that much earlier...
i keep drooling over mirrorless cameras lately
other than the sonys they're all cropped sensors though. but reading an article earlier it's hard to say if that means much these days
my old sensor isn't great though...i love the size and look of the fujifilms and the olympus pen f + pen e

7:41 PM
depends on the lenses you want to use mostly. Lenses designed for crop sensors don't work so well on full frames. Full frame lenses work just fine on crop sensors AFAIK

was gunna record a speed drawing when i realised there's a 10 min limit on my cam

then its just a matter of remembering the focal length difference when shopping

yeah there's that....i guess it's low light and low noise with a wide angle option really that i'd like
specifically low noise

Wide Angle is where it gets hard because you're already losing out to crop
but there are options

yeah...though i have found some options....a tokina 11-16mm lol
which is probably like eyes staring in opposite directions on a full frame
there's even a 9 or 10mm i think

7:44 PM
on full frame when you get that low its generally fisheye

12 is about 22 full frame i think
or 20

opposite

but as far as illustration goes i guess a good hd video recorder is what i should focus on

12 is about 22 on APS-C depending on the exact APS-C size
12 is 12 on Full Frame

sorry i phrased that wrong...i mean to get a 22mm field of view on cropped sensor id need 12mm

7:52 PM
I might get a Macro Rail but will probably just look for a larger tripod plate for now. Don't really want to spend too much
shop by me is kinda pricey too so Macro Rail I'd probably be better off ordering online
Batteries are nice because they sell Promaster with lifetime warranty. When last one died I just brought it in, they looked me up in their computer, and handed me a new one.

nice one
strangely i never look for warranties when buying stuff. lol i must have trust issues
though the lamp retailer suprised me today and cancelled my order without any problems...the lamp saga continues

yeah then its a question of remote. There's really only one available and its $56 I believe. Would be nice to have but might keep making do with self timer for now
nice! congrats

lol yeah a month wait would be a bit silly. got another one from a different seller. still currently 3 out of 10 spots in this room lol. can you get a timer to work with ur phone?
i guess that would be a bad idea if u forget to charge ur phone though

there's a whole mess of Sony apps actually for phone and that go right onto the camera. It kinda scares me though
I haven't plugged the camera into my computer ever.

personally id just get a simple sony button or cheapo chinese brand timer
all you need is a "shoot!" button
unless you're hiding in the bushes on a squirrel

8:02 PM
Well theres some apps I'd really like but I read that it can lock up plugged into a Mac and have been scared to ever risk it :\
"Turns out that Sony didn’t think ahead with their firmware software. So if you are running a 64-bit Mac computer (which is most new computers these days), then the update will brick your camera. Sony apparently didn’t leave this as an issue for 64bit Windows. Maybe they’re trying to sell more computers."
thats what one site says

ur camera? yeah i dunno bout that either. i never upgraded a camera's firmware. there's a firmware hack for mine that will remove the 10min recording limit but im too scared
lol

it sounds like I should just bring it into work and update there
See there's all of these apps for it
well then go to ILCE-7 on the dropdown since some are for other sony cameras

sync to smartphone would be nice
if i had a smartphone lol
im so off the grid, it's like that guy from Terminator

I've used that on my Canon camera at work.
Since I only use manual lenses a lot of features on stuff like that wouldn't work on my Sony anyways
well, focus and aperture and auto white balance wouldn't work
ISO and Shutter Speed I could change and I'm sure I could change White Balance but would be manual as though I'm at the camera

8:30 PM
yeah I should really bring my camera to work tomorrow and see about getting the remote apps for it while on Windows machine
definitely will hold off buying a remote for now

8:42 PM
buy ALL the things
id consider a loan for a camera but i never had one before...scary

8:53 PM
you should do it, or do it for something
well, make sure you can pay it off

haha yeah there's that

but if you have the money for something - do a loan anyways just to pay it off. It helps build your credit
Thats what Im going to probably do with my car repairs even though I have the money to just pay for it outright. I've been meaning to open a credit card for months now so going to do that and then put the repairs on the credit card

id like a debt free life lol but i dunno, it would be nice to have a studio space with everything i need
do you have any vehicle right now?

yeah it would be hard to go to work and Miami without one lol
Just need to get the fender repaired when I get back
but time to close up shop here as its now 5 and Im off to camera shop. Be good
ill be on at some point later to answer GiantCowFilms question

lol this is true. and it's coffee time porty porty youtu.be/_GuNHKZ5P2E?t=2m15s
cya later man

1 hour later…
10:03 PM
@Ryan lol
