Just for @Miniman... a quote from elsewhere:
> I'm currently making a one-page list of all y'all's's moves....

I'm pretty sure it's allayall.

2:58 AM
hey again @nitsua60

@BESW as in, "allyall's's"?
@Shalvenay hiya

@nitsua60 how're things going?

@Shalvenay pinged you once or twice in Discord.
@Shalvenay about to head off to bed

Part 4 of the Fate of the TMNT has some very interesting ideas about how to customise your own long-form campaign so it doesn't really matter which versions of the franchise the players are familiar with.
Seems almost like overkill.

Just finished running 5.5h long session. And thought that visited me today:
D&D is a goblin torturer simulator.
My players today had fun with goblins. I tortured goblins in other game. And everybody loved it.
Don't get me wrong, we're not cruel. But goblin torture can be adorable.

> You roll high, a goblin dies. You roll low, a goblin lives. No one doubts the eventual fate of the poor goblin. It doesn’t matter if it’s killed this round or the next. But it’s still fun to roll those dice, just as it is fun to fight the scrambling goblins. -"Goblin Dice," by @Magician

1:35 PM
hey there @RollingFeles @BESW @nitsua60

Hello, Shalv! =)

how're things going?

1:55 PM
Great. 5 hours of DnD and I'm not even tired :) How're yours?

@RollingFeles alright here
probably will have to shelve the D&D game I wanted to start until next week though
(scheduling reasons)
hey there @Zachiel

@Shalvenay yeah, happens to me quite often. My game was suspended for two weeks till today.

@RollingFeles I just wish that @waxeagle hadn't vanished the way he did

@Shalvenay is he still unavailable? Or did he disappear once again?

@RollingFeles he is still unavailable.

2:11 PM

the good news is that I got to see Blind Guardian live last week

Awesome!

@Shalvenay Heya. You got me while I was shutting down the PC

@Zachiel ah. how're thing going?

Hey! How's things?

I'm still thinking about reviving my Fourthcore game, but given what happened to the first one, I'm not sure it is a good idea because I don't really want to waste people's time on a fated game.

Four Thcore and Theven Yearth ago…

Meanwhile, I'm taking a look at the epic feats for my D&D character, in order to understan how many non-epic feats I can use.

If my old player who told me "I'd like to be part of one of your PbF games" only replies me every 3-4 days and I can only reach him by e-mail, something's not OK...

As in, “Something must be wrong with him”, or “That's not fine by be”?

As in "this PbF will never get going"
I would be ok with him playing only once or twice a week only if everybody else was ok in waiting him and then rushing in to make his turn come again by the time he shows up again, but I think that's a bit too much to ask.
This is a 5-players-plus-DM game
Or maybe someone could one-man all other 4 characters just to let him play. Hoping the game is not too unjust on the 2-man player party.

I must admit, I have never been in a working PbF game.
The 3 (?) PbF games I was in all broke down pretty fast due to such reasons of irregular posting, probably also on my part.

As in, none of those you have been in, which is more than 0, have worked?
@Anaphory Yes, that's my fear. I need five committed players who want to get to the end and whose schedule shouldn't have predictable changes.

Even with somewhat consistent schedules (I mean, I must have been a school kid with a regular week at that time) my interests wax and wane, and if the PbF is not well complementing that, that's a problem.
I had a housemate in Southampton who ran several successful PbF games, though, so while I think the medium is difficult, it's by no means impossible.

7:05 PM
yeah, it's a very hard medium to work in

I've seen PbF DMs take away some control over the characters from the players in order to run things more smoothly (like deciding in which exact square they were at the beginning of the encounter).

play-by-chat type tools (from a straight chatroom all the way up to say roll20) are much better

Unfortunately, my friend has no entire evenings to dedicate to the game
I would also like to play this in a PbC but I'm not sure I want this more than wanting to further a story in my usual multiplayer PbCs
Unless it's a "keep characters ready, let's see evening by evening when we're all ok with playing", but that might be worse than PbF

@Zachiel Game with no schedule is a thing I never saw working in any medium.

@Anaphory Right, right?

7:10 PM
@Zachiel Oh, I would so take away that power. Personally, I would use PbF only for a game where other players have a good way to make strong assumptions over other characters' behaviour (looking at Fate aspects, for example) to fill in small reactions when needed, and without any turn structure – but aforementioned housemate actually mixed phases like that with turn-based grid-based combat, I still don't know how he made that work.

@Anaphory One thing I know is that in my last attempt I wanted to track turns even out of combat, and that all turns had to be taken while I was available, which is once a day for almost 5 hours. Sometimes I started resolving actions with people but they decided just 2/3 of it and then I had to go and that ate one day.

Oh, was that the game where you were looking to simulate the real-table time pressure in PbF?

Yes
That, anyway, is one thing I don't really want to do. I only want to simulate the time limit, as a "win/lose" condition.

7:30 PM
@Anaphory yeah, Theatre of the Mind is definitely superior for PbF work

8:29 PM
Now I have a list of all epic spells in all Complete books.

Compiled by hand?

I will only get up to 5 epic spells in the entire life of my cleric character and I want to avoid useless ones.
Compiled by hand
I know Player's Guide to Faerun has some more, and the book of epic levels of course.
Any other known place comes to your mind?

I don't know such things.

Let's google

8:57 PM
Apparently there's some in Magic of Incarnum, Draconomicon and Underdark.
Good to know. time to fetch someone that has them.

Have fun, and a good night everyone!

9:35 PM
hey there @nitsua60
