00:00 - 06:0006:00 - 00:00

6:00 AM
@doppelgreener Male Jabrins are just as bad, I needed to come up with an outfit regardless.

@Dorian this site? yes. no private message functioning at all unless you're a moderator or staff member, and then that's for serious matters like messages saying "stop doing this or you're probably going to get banned"

Males I just have more experience with. I need a flamboyant female outfit....

Even these chat logs are fully Google-indexed and searchable, kept forever (as far as I'm aware.)

I told a friend of mine I'd PM her when she made an account lol
She went to sleep now and she doesn't have the rep needed to join chat yet.

@Miniman Hello, future humans! Or robot/alien overlords.

6:02 AM
@Adeptus Or present robot overlords, let's face facts here.

@Adeptus The dolphin overlords of the future will take offense to that.

I, for one, welcome our robotic fungal alien dolphin overlords.

@Dorian If it helps, remember that women are just people. There are some female typicalities in thought processes just as there are male ones, but as a general rule, >95% of what makes a man or a woman is them just being A Person.

@doppelgreener Eh, I know that, the thing I'm worried about is finding something I like that isn't completely lewd.

@Miniman I don't care about the ones in the present, I'm saying hi to the ones in the future...

6:05 AM
@Dorian right; i recommend digging through art by female artists then. they tend to draw spectacular women who actually wear shirts that reach their neck and jeans and so on.
expose yourself to the possibilities!
of decent coverage and so on!

@doppelgreener GROAN.

lol

@Adeptus To our present robot overlords: Don't think that he speaks for all of us. I for one really appreciate the job you guys are doing and don't want to be terminated.

@BESW sorry that was not intended to be a double entendre at all
@Pixie YES.

6:07 AM
also, our future overlords are obz gonna be hip cyborg dragons yo

@Pixie ...aw, for a moment I hoped they'd started posting again.

@doppelgreener HA you did it that time

There's also that art series a while back where someone redesigned all the female heroes like Wonder Woman to have full body clothing - everything but the hands and head as necessary - just as an experiment. Do you know how we'd dig that one up?

@BESW Alas. But they're still a good repository!

@trogdor ....why do the dragons need hip replacements?
2
Do they suffer genetic hip dysplasia from inbreeding?

6:09 AM
I don't even actually remember exactly what I said, but at one point I accidently made a double entandre as well
@BESW no it is just cool to make robot parts

On the other hand... this conversation has filled me with an intense desire to play Kelly in an epic fantasy setting.

@Pixie Kelly being the protagonist there right?

@doppelgreener But of course. (All quest hooks ignored in favor of seeking ever-more-powerful shoes.)

@Pixie and possibly a cleric of Vidarr right?

I can't wear armor actually.

6:13 AM
@doppelgreener Who more worthy as a travel companion?
(This song has been in my head ever since that question was posted.)

So I need a decent outfit

1d20

1d20

6:16 AM
Ok, I'm out. Cya guys.

Found a nice cute assassin girl... But she's wearing a corset that shows her nipples and her lower half is just panties and a garter belt pretty much... If it covered her chest and had a nice skirt for example it would be lovely.

@Dorian Still, the idea of that blog being to see what women can wear that looks cool or nice or whatever.

I'll flip through it a bit at least.

Remembering that, for instance, women are not usually dressing to look appealing. Often they're not. (Sometimes they are.) Depending on your setting they're probably more often dressing to be comfortable or for utility or w/e.

TIL about the Potsdam Gravity Potato.

6:25 AM
Pathfinder setting, she's a martial artist/magic user, and would be the party face as well.
So she needs to look good.

Also, Jaebrins tend to lean towards flamboyancy.
In fact they used to be the jesters of the faerie courts

@Dorian ok. all the research I am recommending though is just for getting used to the idea that women can look good whilst avoiding this problem.
once your brain's cool with that idea it will probably be easier to generate the kinds of outfits you're after, and be satisfied with them.

My brain is cool with it, the internet is not :P

the world*

6:28 AM
lol
Seems like every time I find something I like stylistically, it's not tasteful, or it's a piece of a very not tasteful outfit (like the armguard, or a boot, or a cloak)

that's an overgeneralisation but i'm not sure to what degree
@Dorian are you looking for a whole artpiece you can use?

Not really, but I'd prefer to have the majority of the outfit in one piece at least...
/tg/ doesn't tend to take kindly to very long requests...
currently flipping through my old archives to see if I can find something that would suit this concept

@BESW there is also that height map of the earth that, when exaggerated a little, turns the earth into a potato. :D
BTW how is that elder god son concept character shaping up presently?

Haven't done much more work on it.

Alright.

6:43 AM
Argh. I hate returning to deviantart to find a favorite artist disappeared. I really should save my favorite pictures more frequently.

@Pixie is it just me or is that place turning into a [analogy to refuse]?

@doppelgreener Hah, it has been for years.
But there's still pretty art there, so I still look.

@Pixie i guess that's true

Oh, thank goodness. The artist that disappeared isn't the artist I thought it was, and I had reblogged the picture I wanted to look at at some point, anyway.
In looking for it, I found a comment I made on Rarity that sums up my opinion of her pretty well:
> Sometimes it’s easy to forget how hardcore Rarity is. Then you rewatch the series debut and realize she kicked a manticore in the face and hacked off her own tail to make a sea monster fabulous.

@Pixie what
I watched that debut and I don't remember that

6:57 AM
You don't remember Steven Magnet](gyropedia.wikia.com/wiki/Steven_Magnet)?

@doppelgreener Exhibit A, Exhibit B.

Derp, had to answer the phone, link's messed up.

@Pixie but she didn't hack off her tail, did she? she just took some hair from it.

@doppelgreener She cut almost the whole thing off.

7:09 AM
@BESW okay yes this is understandable now.
because, y'know, horses actually have a flesh-and-bone tail bit all the hair is attached to. removing that would be hacking her tail off.

Synecdoche!

I know but that is what I was thinking of!
I was like "since when did this series involve self-mutilation?"

I can see the confusion. xD There's not really another word for a horse's tail hair besides... tail.

@doppelgreener Did you have something in mind?
@renan Hi!

Hows that look if I can get it more fantasy/eastern designed?

7:20 AM
@BESW no, just wondering!

@Dorian I'd wear it, save for the hip window, and I'm pretty shy. :P

Well I plan for her to be wearing a belt too later and that will likely cover that

I'm not sure the corset-and-miniskirt look is very practical for adventuring.

it probably isn't

I don't know, it doesn't look that impractical to me.

7:31 AM
but impractical has happened before

She's a caster.
Well, technically a martial artist, but a caster nonetheless.
and I'm low on ideas
We have a swordsage variant party
I'm the Arcane Swordsage

Opaque tights solve a lot of problems. I know this from my own daily life. :v The skirt could get caught on things, but that's true of any skirt (and the longer, the worse in this case).

The only corset I've ever worn was made for someone else, so I can't speak to well-fitted ones, but I was skinnier than the person it was tailored for and I found it somewhat restricting.

I love maxi skirts, but I will not claim to have never almost killed myself wearing one. Also, that corset doesn't look like a real corset.

I also don't think corsets are very medieval fantasy or oriental
That bit will likely be tweaked so it's not quite a corset but has the basic design shown when I make the request

7:34 AM
The lacing on the sides can't really be anything but decorative. If they don't lace tightly, they're not restrictive. But, yeah, just cutting the corset is a valid option.

I do like the design of how it looks, but I realize corsets have no place in D&D.
Except for noblewomen.
So that would likely be something more along the lines of a tunic, ending under the skirt making it a somewhat layered skirt.
And since I can't really wear armor, I'll be relying on other things for my armor class bonus.
or idk...

...I think I'm going to start a Gallery Of Faces.
Just today I've acquired: 1; 2; 3; 4‌; 5; and more.

I've also actually worn laced bodices, both Ren Faire style and as accurate as we could possibly get to medieval designs, and they're pretty comfy. So a real corset not so much (unless some level of rule-of-cool is understood amongst your fashions), a fake corset fine as long as you're not concerned with historical accuracy, and bodices yes.

Premise of the party by the way: Each of us three party members will have some sort of theory about martial arts, and we are adventuring together to prove our theory.
(that's gonna be the hardest part about the character creation I think...)

Yeah, I wouldn't really know where to go with that.

7:47 AM
I have a loose idea but beyond that I'm not sure where to take it.

@BESW For what purpose, RP usage?

@Pixie Yeah.

Neat!

Yeah, I try to look for portraits of my PCs and major NPCs. In the process I see a lot of really cool pictures that aren't right for what I'm looking for at the moment.

Bit of an interesting shift from what I'm used to. It's common in the freeform forum community but also something that can be contentious (people not properly sourcing their art, using art they didn't have permission to use, artists sometimes getting upset about that, etc.). In my own games, I rather discouraged using art one didn't either create or have express permission to use because of that.
But for personal use that isn't going to be left lying about public spaces online, I don't see anything wrong with it.

8:02 AM
Yeah, since I'm using it in an IRL game where the art use doesn't go past our immediate context, it's a bit different.
Now, when I was using Storium earlier this year, I did my best to use public domain stuff.

Yeah, definitely a different context when it's not leaving your living room.
Or your chatroom, or whatever private space.

How about mixing it with this? Keeping the general look of the red riding hood and influencing it with this?

@Pixie Often I won't even show the picture to the rest of the group, just use it as a touchstone for my descriptions.

(yes another miniskirt, but that's not why it was picked, more for upper body outfit design)

@Dorian I kinda like this

8:07 AM
@BESW That's different, too, I think. Using a picture to represent a character is actually less common in my private games, but images sometimes do spark inspiration.

I need a token too Pixie
That's part of the issue

but then again, I am kinda biased towards slightly more oriental designs

@Dorian Look at art from the Suikoden games, especially the first two or three.

I was planning on having the steampunk red riding hood be more orientally tweaked anyways.

8:08 AM
(I searched traditional Mongolian fashion.)

I just needed something to gear it towards
I'm not going hardcore oriental here BESW

I am not sure how I messed up that @. :B

This is still focused on D&D

Right. That's the D&D with Central American snake-angels and Hindu cat demons?
It's fine to want to keep Western influences in your design, but D&D's cultural appropriation of... everything... makes it a poor reason to cite for the choice.

That's the point actually.
Needs to blend cultural aspects, not focus solely on one.

8:18 AM
Yeah, and in that context I suggested a less-already-Westernised representation of a comfy-but-ornamental Eastern fashion.
Since you've been talking for some time about the difficulty of finding modest dress, it seemed like a useful contribution to the mix.

modest fantasy, not modest traditional/historical

I don't understand the distinction.
You're making a collage out of different fashions and periods, but you only want to draw on sources that are already interpreted from real-life fashions, instead of drawing inspiration from real-life fashions directly?

to make it easier I might as well say yes. that's not really hitting the point but it's close enough and i'm too slow to explain it right now lol
culturally ambiguous is part of it too
Oh, this is also Faerun... dunno if that will help any

8:34 AM
If I'm interpreting his comments and my own experience with free art requests correctly, the artists he's gathering examples for aren't going to take a lot of time to actually interpret those references, because they draw quickly and for free. Asking them to do anything that isn't cut and dry instruction that doesn't stray too far from the example images may be too much.

that has a hell of alot to do with it

But "it's for D&D" isn't an especially helpful comment, no. As BESW pointed out, there's just too much of a cultural mishmash already present to really say anything is strictly out of bounds. "Eastern" is also really, really, really broad.

Well that's kind of exactly how the swordsage and other ToB classes are stylized.
cultural mishmash with east and west style input :P

That still doesn't tell us much about what you actually want, though. For example, that last thing you posted is inspired by Shinto priestess uniforms, more intricately embellished kimono, modern school uniforms, and general anime stylism. This meets "east and west" criteria but is entirely different.

9:26 AM
Bah. I'm going to make BESW's Aztec Chocolate Drink For Wusses.
...with coffee.

2 hours later…
11:48 AM
Dropping a quick note here: "cyborg space wizard."

hey
what you doing in my turf?
XD

Darth Vader was there first.

to be fair, cyborg is the only bit that resembles one of my character concepts
do you think it is a bad idea for me to use my cyborg dragon concept this upcoming Saturday?

Ask @doppelgreener!

mk
but he isn't around atm

12:02 PM
I know that he's already been customising his prep to the PCs he expects, but he's probably willing to adapt.

if he has any objections I will just stick to Dr Light
I am just sorely tempted to use the cyborg dragon in conjunction with Jesse, and the absence of Stellata kinda makes Dr Light a little less desirable too
not too much, but in conjunction with the other reason it is a factor
not to even mention my normal proclivity towards this kind of thing

12:42 PM
@trogdor -- cyborg dragon xD is he instrument rated? ;)

he probably is not
but he isn't as big as a typical dragon

meh. needs to be hooked up with a proper avionics tech then ;)

he looks a little more like this
or this
except of course, with cyborg parts

aaah

he isn't a huge airplane (or larger) sized dragon

12:49 PM
so closer to a dragonborn/half-dragon :p

more like a humanoid dragon, like a dragonborn, or sorta similar to lizardfolk except with wings and firebreath

yeah
the top pic you linked reminds me of the lizard race from one of the MMOs I play, but I must digress
o/

@trogdor no objections. what's your dragon like?

love me some 4e dragoborn

@doppelgreener I linked in skype with a doc that has him in it
I can link again here or skype
if you prefer one or the other

12:55 PM
@doppelgreener I'll add it to the PC list.
> Zexpyralis “The Dragon of the Future”
Concept: polarized cyborg dragon
Dragon: my wrath knows no bounds
Cyborg: engineered for battle
Banter: uproarious speaker/listener
Omega:
He's got firebreath, wings, a heavy jetpack, tough scaled hide, sharp teeth and claws... and infrared vision.

I am not sure if the infrared vision is entirely kosher,...

Goodmorning

but maybe I overestimate how often that would be specifically useful
morning

@trogdor its his critical weakness during golden hour/sunset

no,.. his critical weaknesses include being able to be compelled for incredible slowness when he isn't flying, and the pure panic he can be compelled to throw people all around him into at the worst possible moment
also, he gives the GM a fate point just for being in a session
and he is almost totally useless in a non fight scenario, which in Fate is more of a weakness than in many other systems
the stuff he can do wouldn't fly for a D&D PC for either of the editions I have played (4E and 3.5)
probably with any of them even

1:16 PM
@trogdor was jsut making a cheesy reign of fire reference

lol
sorry XD

@trogdor hey your defense rant revealed a cool thing, his giving the gm an extra fate point for free
I liek it

it isn't technically for free

@JoshuaAslanSmith The Atomic Robo iteration of Fate lets PCs take as many stunts as they like (with a few limits on how the stunts are themed), but for each stunt more than five the GM gets another Fate point for the NPC pool.

it's for some of the extra stuff he gets from stunts

1:19 PM
if only I wasnt prejudiced against the atomic robo due lol

(Alternately players can choose to give their PCs new ways to be compelled, or have their stunts automatically incur complications whenever the GM likes, instead of giving the GM more Fate points.)

@JoshuaAslanSmith tis Ok, I got it :)
(I kind of want to pop that in again...it's been a long time)

@doppelgreener Sounds like only you, Dan, and I will be around for the post-Christmas game. And you won't have Paranoia yet, it sounds like.

@BESW nope nothing yet

weird that paranoia is not using backerkit...they're literally just asking you to paypal them the additional amt...that's going to be a nightmare

1:26 PM
lol

@doppelgreener I was talking with Troggy in the Skype room and got a hankering to try running MLWM again, now that I and my players have experience with more kinds of play similar to it. Maybe we could do that!

@BESW sure! I'm happy with that

MLWM is... intense, if done right.

MLWM?

1:34 PM
A roleplaying game of villainy, self-loathing, and unrequited love.

Like, its stated goal is for the GM to become, in the person of the Master, an avatar of the players' fears and sins, and to use the Master as a club to emotionally cudgel the players through their Minion avatars until they are focused solely on destroying the Master and achieving catharsis.

hah that does sound intense and very cool if done right
obviously lots of trust and safe words

It's a Gothic horror game, but its power lies in its potent analogy for cruel addictions whether they be drug abuse, abusive relationships, or whatever else.

oh definitely
Im a sucker for gothic and romantic influences on modern storytelling

1:38 PM
Narratively, the conceit is that the players are Minions to a horrifying Master--Igor to Frankenstein, Wormtongue to Saruman. They are abused by the Master as they go about their tasks, and they turn to the townsfolk for human connections.
When a Minion has enough of his humanity reaffirmed through his interaction with the townsfolk, he has the emotional fortitude to defy his Master.
The game's mechanics are Self-Loathing, Weariness, Love, Intimacy, Sincerity, Desperation, Fear, and Reason.

lol nice
I might check this out jsut to read the manual

I strongly recommend you do! It's an interesting analysis of gothic horror and the psychology of addiction, even without treating it as an RPG.
I've played it once--as the GM--and it went horribly wrong because it's a Forge game and we were almost exclusively thinking in d20 System patterns.

gothca I have zero experience with forge but between fate and dungeonworld my rpg mindset has opened a lot and I find it easier to objectively look at mechanics for all systems

Now that I and my players have a better chance of grasping what it means for a game's mechanics to be purely interested in emotional power and totally unconcerned with rational logic, I want to try again.
I'm thinking of it as the RPG engine equivalent of a Moffat script.

lol
maybe not my cup of tea then if you put it that way lol

1:44 PM
Well, in the sense that it's about emotional truth rather than rational truth.
It's equally comfortable described as evoking the semi-dreamlike state of a black-and-white gothic horror film.
Where the reason a scene exists is to arrive at an emotional outcome, and all elements within the scene either exist to push you toward the outcome or to determine its nature.
(In MLWM, the former is purely narrative and the latter influences the die roll: you get one roll per scene, to determine the emotional payoff.)

ah okay
that does sound interesting

The mechanics are a bit complex, though.
For example: if a Minion wishes to do violence to an NPC opponent, he rolls the Master's Fear plus his own Self-Loathing, vs the town's Reason plus the Minion's own Weariness.
If the Minion wishes to make an overture to an NPC in hopes of gaining Love, he rolls the town's Reason minus his own Self-Loathing, vs the Master's Fear minus the town's Reason.
In any scene, anyone can get more dice if they're Sincere, Desperate, or Intimate.
(Which is pure GM fiat determined by the context of the scene and how the player is framing their actions.)
This means, for example, the Master might do something nice for a Minion and then suddenly order the Minion to do something awful, in order to get an Intimate die in case the Minion tries to resist the order.

(The Master can never get the Sincerity die, though.)

very apropos

1:57 PM
In MLWM, the Master is defined as a wretched being with a desperate Need (blood, recognition, revenge, legacy, etc) who cannot achieve that Need by himself: he is powerless to realise his own goals, and can only act through his Minions.
> [The Master] inhabits an insecure position at the crux of consuming desire and lack of self-sufficiency, and it is from this that fear and horror flow out into the game.

Rep minus 1k and counting to the 20k limit breaker

Grats.

its been a helluva year for rep

Cool :)
aiming for 20k before the year ends?

@JoshuaAslanSmith yes, yes it has been
slowed down a lot in the last few weeks as 5e has tapered off

2:09 PM
yeah thats my plan, we'll see if enough 5e questions come in and I dont get sniped answer wise
I might cookup some of my own too I need to read through the DMG more closely

@waxeagle Maybe for you, I keep rep capping.
Not that it hasn't been nice answering questions without the fear of a waxeagle snipe, of course.

@Miniman it's been a busy few weeks for me :)

hah
true Ive had time to compose longer answers lol

2:55 PM
@doppelgreener, @trogdor What existing ARRPG skill would be most suited to acquire trappings of magic derived from song and dance?
I'm thinking Rapport.

3:18 PM
@BESW depends on the flavour. is it nice magic, like bardic friendly magic? rapport. fearful magic? provoke. impressive dancing magic? athletics.
if you want to do a broad variety of things with it i'd suggest a new skill

2 hours later…
Sure, looks like the moment I actually decide on an outfit look I find something that would have worked pretty damn well to begin with. grrr
@waxeagle I'd help if I can.
Should probably be closed as well.

yep, just vtc'd it

Alrighty.

not my problem honestly
one of my managers had me look for it
but if its not where it should be theres like 2 places for it to be and not be stolen

Gotta be really desperate to steal a bloody macbook lol

lol

macbook pro I should say
and I work at a uni
so students lol
yeah an old white macbook, yeah totally silly

Still gotta be really desperate to steal a macbook, pro or not.

Hey, anyone know what the cost of a nonmagical permanent kaorti resin weapon would be? Assume 50g base cost for weapon, masterwork cost of +300g
The process of making a Kaorti resin weapon costs the Kaorti preforming it 50% of the cost in xp, so how would that translate to a market cost for selling?

7:17 PM
Good Evening/Other all

hiya

I'm getting to play in a Werewolf the Apoc game :-)
I'm excited to be a flying wolf soon.

Hey, anyone gone through the PF SORD at all? Anyone recommend it?

7:31 PM

nope to which, you haven't read it? :P
