Is there SE documentation?

tons and tons, what type are you looking for ?

I've looked at blog.stackoverflow and meta. It reads like a journal of trial/error/experience. It's pretty difficult to interpret. I'm looking for a decided on community statement, including goal, use cases, value ranking, etc. Like a compilation of the choices the site has made.

12:51 AM
oh yup, that says it all, for the most part it is a jumbled up mess of arbitrary and partly decided on , refer to whomever the last guy said it, kind of thing for ALL of the data.
there is an assumption that the help center for a Specific site culminates the data for that site, and (often) has little to do with another site, because the "community" has created, bent , mangled, and re-created the rules based on the specific sites needs.
the meta here also has questions tagged as FAQ meta.superuser.com/questions/tagged/faq

1:58 AM
Where has @allquixotic gone?
Is the cat around?

Bob
2:13 AM
Probably to sleep.

@user193661 that dosen't really exist.
Its a direct consequence of community moderation

Bob
@JourneymanGeek What we really need is a better way of reviewing past decisions.
And then closing the past ones as duplicates of the newer (updated) ones.

@Bob: In a sense that's technical debt
and its just as bad on newer sites

4:04 AM
Or, how about this: SE employees or community moderators can start "official referendums" to modify the standing rules of the site; then people vote on whether to make the proposed change or not. Every proposal would take the form of a unified diff of the Markdown source of the official rules page (which doesn't yet exist).
People who have a great idea who want to effect change, but are not a mod, can make a meta post requesting a change, and it'll be reviewed by mods and either created as a referendum or rejected if there is a great amount of community dissent to the idea (why waste time voting if everyone thinks it's a dumb idea - sort of a sanity filter)

Might be worth metaing :) especially since so corporate wants to expand into documentation

I mean, it's either that, or we just continue letting me dictate the rules on Meta.SU ;-) (meaning, whenever I see a meta post and post an answer, it's usually accepted/upvoted enough to reflect community consensus, which in turn means I make the rules on SU -- and with very little effort, mind you)

@allquixotic yea but in that case you usually make sence :-)

the closing and off-topic community "i make the rules" are instead pretty much limiting the site to a specific set of persons. topics, and lack of anybody even sticking around.
@JourneymanGeek I am still trying to figure out what JMG was elusivly saying about being downsized? The job thing?

Bob
4:19 AM
...that poor GTX 970
@allquixotic Heh. That's half my meta.SU answers too, when I care enough to post.

@Bob looks like it got Hosed :-)
Did the dude happen to see the traces on the board , before making dremmel adjustments ?

@Bob ahh nothing a few jumpers wont fix :-)

Bob
@Psycogeek Yea, someone suggested that. But if he cut the multilayer parts he's out of luck.

half the layers on them things are ground clads and power sheets, but i would have to see a 7 layer schematic board layout before making the mod .
"these traces have very critical tolerances and when designing for high speed circuits like you find them on GPUs a lot of the work involved is running simulations on the trace layout and board stacking to optimize their electrical characteristics" ahh critical shmitical, run the jumpers check to insure that the other layers are fully seperated (copper bent over) and Pray

4:34 AM

Had that problem when removing the clamp for my CPU. Didnt your mama tell you not to put all that important stuff around the screw holes.

@Psycogeek elusively?
I lost my job. Is officially not related to the massive layoffs my last workplace did.

@JourneymanGeek so like the project they had came to an end? (twitter link) a little entertainment industry flush of jobs to "get a movie out" ?
Course much of the entertainment industry in CA is all union based. So on one side your more likely to be within the "contract" made, or to have a job tomorrow, on the other hand, you cant even get the freaking job without being in the gang.

@JourneymanGeek What happened? Were you a temporary?

Never being in the union I could tell some strange stories i had to deal with the union on various jobs. One time the people hiring us had to hire a extra union guy to site on his ass next to us, or we could not work there.

4:47 AM
sigh
Double Negative seems to be laying off a lot of people.

One time they said your not in the union (which is of course a workers or employee union) so we could not work the location. It became a real twist of sematics , when the only people working were "owners" :-) After a few statements i told them i would form a union against myself. Confused they backed off.

That sucks.

One time the orchastra union wanted $5000 for us to film, which was really and actually only for archive purposes. somehow we would pay them 10Times what anyone was being paid :-) Just to do our job

@Psycogeek basically the work goes where the subsidies are
Singapore cut the subsidy hugely it seems. Van's cheaper for the studio
@DragonLord as per that twitter link, essentially the local studio's getting gutted of all the 'higher end' jobs

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Were you still in your probationary period?

4:52 AM
nope, they paid off my notice period ahead

BREAKING NEWS: DNeg Singapore layoffs 80 Staff -- mostly senior #VFX positions. Dneg's Singapore facility is... http://fb.me/7RKr9atiI
Dammit.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Oh, I don't mean notice but say 6-month or 12-month probationary period as a new employee.

@Bob: passed that

Bob
Ah.

anyway, that's over. I'm focusing on the next adventure :)

4:54 AM
You're free again, yay

(though, it would be nice to get the antman swag I ordered, but I have no idea what happens with those and ex employees)
Money's nice
My phone upgrade's off for now, and I'm not replacing my desk till I know where I'm going next.

I'll have my first paid photography assignment tomorrow. Indoor volleyball.
Gotta get to bed soon.
(Was recently hired as a sports photographer for my college's athletics department, have been doing this as a volunteer for a while with great results)

@JourneymanGeek so there is still great value now? You now have "job experience" on the resume thing? Will they provide a good referance?

@Psycogeek I doubt he'd get a negative reference. He was laid off, not dismissed.
Experience is experience.

Work said folk could call for a reference.

5:01 AM
well that is better than "packed the office up and dissapeared"
(see pyramid scheme for more info)

Well, who knows.
and meh. They gave me a chance. It didn't work out. While I want to focus on what I can do better on job +1, outside that, I don't want to dwell too much on it.

Looks like you didn't make the cut. Not that you performed poorly, but that you were laid off because others performed better than you.
You did your best. That's what counts.
I'd be surprised if a future employer looked at this negatively.

@DragonLord: There's a lot of stuff going on, so... yeah
Once again though, I don't see the point of speculating on stuff that clearly happened fast and over my head.

Not your fault. You were laid off, not dismissed.

Right now, in order 1) get my resume updated 2) Get it out to people who might be able to to things with it 3) get another job, and be awesome
I'm not saying its anyone's fault ;p
Blame does shit to make the situation better

1 hour later…
6:24 AM
Good outlook, there, pup.
Email's the best way to get me your resume, btw

7:12 AM
@JourneymanGeek All the best for your next job !

7:52 AM

8:24 AM
@allquixotic: will do

2 hours later…

@DragonLord Oh, I need to remember that part. Before you wrote that that translated to the same meaning.

12:09 PM
Hi folks
@JourneymanGeek I'm sorry to hear that man :(

4 hours later…
3:50 PM
I'm on a sports photography assignment, so I might not be able to respond in a timely manner. As always, though, feel free to ping if there's anything you need to tell me.
It's my first paid photo assignment.
I'm on the job. See ya in a bit.

@DragonLord Enjoy! :D

2 hours later…
6:21 PM
Pulled up Cortana, and I'm told today is Talk Like a Pirate Day—never heard of it before.
International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD, September 19) is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, U.S., who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello," but with "Ahoy, matey!" The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy. == HistoryEdit == According to Summers, the day is the only holiday to come into being as a result of a sports injury...

6:38 PM
@DragonLord you must be new to the internet

Heh.

Hello
Guys, quick Q. Is it possible to disable hard drive from BIOS? I wish to do that, so that boot sector from this hard drive would not be used.

8:30 PM
@AcidShout old enough to have a strong hate for the "talk like a pirate day"

3 hours later…
11:59 PM
I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.
