human.. play..

;p
naw, that, you can't photograph a wauzer in that mood ;p

2:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek you wolf-descendant, you!

;p
(its kinda amazing how much variation there is amongst dogs ;p)

Apparently google code is shutting down o0
and all projects must migrate out

on a side note, hear about google code closing?

@ekaj They're shutting it down because it's being overrun by spam and abuse

2:30 AM
Yes.. because most people are moving to bitbucket and github

People were already migrating away to other hosts

even google migrated their stuff to github

2:43 AM

Bob
3:10 AM

@Bob "I should have run out of juice 21 minutes ago!"

2 hours later…
4:51 AM
Emailed EC2 about when my instance would end on March 9th, March 10th got the automated email, the 14th customer support actually replied, and the free tier ends on the 31st.. good timing I guess?

Any Android experts here?
I'm running CM12 on my 2012 Nexus 7, and want to try out a custom kernel.
When I flash franco.Kernel, however, I get System UI force closes and the system drops to a boot loop.
I have to flash the ROM again or restore from NANDroid backup to recover.
Is this some bug with franco.Kernel?

I was just going to say.

A: I can't uninstall the Ask Toolbar updater despite having admin access?

valid answer
TIL stars apparently don't twinkle due to objects crossing the path of their light in space

5:13 AM
No, its actually our athmosphere
objects crossing their paths would be somewhat rare, and may have more interesting effects

yep =p didn't know that previously, people always told me it was objects crossing the path

5:59 AM
Hyper-overclocked Core i5-2500K (5 GHz!)
GeForce GTX 970 at 1.5 GHz
...and loads of Skyrim mods.
The clocks are insane for Sandy Bridge
It's a sponsored, super-enthusiast build
I will see if I'll ever build anything like this.
I guess I should start small and build a cheap system for experience first...

lol
I would suggest midrange
You're unlikely to be processor constrained in most cases, and you have a good starting point for incremental upgrades
(actually his build, or its modern equivilent looks like a good place to start)

i5-4690K at 4 GHz sounds like a good place to start
(Let's be realistic, I don't want to dabble with liquid cooling)
...and a GTX 970 at 1.5 GHz (not hard to attain with any good card)
...or to keep costs down, a GTX 960 at 1.45 GHz
I try not to overclock unless the application requires the added performance
Okay, back to work.
It's 2:25 AM here and I have lots of work to do.

7:07 AM
yay
Apparently we're getting an extra day off for national day
Can you say five day weekend?

3 hours later…
9:57 AM
@JourneymanGeek congrats!

(maybe 4)
@allquixotic: oh, its the 50th anniversery of us getting kicked out of malaysia

o_O
ahh, the fun of downloading Steam updates at 6:11 AM local time :D I'm getting steady 30 Mbps, with bursts to 35 Mbps
over LTE!
usually at peak hours I pull about 12 - 15 Mbps

10:12 AM
;p

off-peak but still busy, I can get 20-24
but never 35

Man. I was thinking of gaming this weekend

we should game together Ravi
something

;p
I very rarely manage to get the time to game socially
(Just too much other stuff I guess)
I haven't touched homeworld in 2 weeks
(busy last weekend, semi sick this weekend)
But yeah, we need to see if we can ;p

awww, sorry you're not feeling well :/

10:16 AM
it ok
mom's been giving me this pretty effective, very very nasty tasting brew ;p

heh
any games in my library that you have that we could play? steamcommunity.com//id/allquixotic

TF might be a safe bet?
(granted, I've never played that, entirely on account of it being mainly MP ;p)

Team Fortress 2?

yeah
(heh, I have no idea what games I have, I tend to pick em up, play em, sometimes get distracted, then pick em up again...)

hehehe

11:43 AM
ooh
I just realised what that sort of bandages that stick to themselves and nothing else is called

12:15 PM
@JourneymanGeek only 50 years? ya noob :P

@allquixotic: ;p

....actually, I have little standing to say that, since 1776 is basically yesterday compared to the age of, say, China, Russia, or England

and I mean as a continuous government, so India doesn't really qualify since they got colonized

ya
india rarely had a central government either

12:17 PM
because otherwise the US could be said to go way back because of the native Americans

in any case, its our 50th and there's a very good chance of a snap election too
(so another day off, yay!)

heh

May have another walkover tho

"snap" election?

@all, @Bob, on that photorec I ran on my sister's drive, I managed to recover some 8 photos.
just to give that a closure.

12:19 PM
Yeah, government tends to officially announce elections only a little in advance

@jokerdino only 8? yikes

@allquixotic yeah, should have shut the computer early.

We've had a very generous budget, some moves towards trying to weaken the opposition party in the multiseat ward the opposition won last year ....
(and one of our MPs may not stand this election)

@JourneymanGeek I dont see PAP getting dethroned in the next 3 decades

better to have elections on a pre-set schedule, I think

12:21 PM
@allquixotic: yeaaah....

otherwise you can have elections when people are happy and capitalize on that

I do believe that's the point here ;p

heh, elections are a formality in Singapore. Only one party rules.

!! s/Singapore/the US/

12:22 PM
@allquixotic heh, elections are a formality in the US. Only one party rules. (source)

and this

still true

A Group Representation Constituency (GRC) is a type of electoral division or constituency in Singapore, the Members of Parliament (MPs) of which are voted into Parliament as a group. The Government stated that the GRC scheme was primarily implemented to enshrine minority representation in Parliament: at least one of the MPs in a GRC must be a member of the Malay, Indian or another minority community of Singapore. In addition, it was economical for town councils, which manage public housing estates, to handle larger constituencies. The GRC scheme came into effect on 1 June 1988. Prior to that date...
@allquixotic war politics, politics never changes

wait, wasn't there some game that starts out the cinematic with "war.... war never changes."?

@JourneymanGeek that was the H something GRC wasn't it?

12:23 PM
Sins of a Solar Empire? :P

hougang was a single seat

Guess I forgot things.

they lost aljunid last election, and have been claiming the WP town council is incompetent in parliament
WP also won ponggol-pasir ris during a byelection
Amusing thing is? I'd vote PAP for certain if the current finance minister was PM

When did the last election run?
I remember one in 2011 (I was in Nepal at that moment).

12:25 PM
Missed holiday and all that.

the only foreign political systems I semi-understand are those of the UK and the countries that decided to keep a system similar to theirs when they were made sovereign nations, like Canada and Australia

@allquixotic: ours is unicameral with either single seat wards, or 4-6 seat wards which must have at least one minority candidate.
If there's less than a certain number of opposition MPs in parliament, there's a topup of NCMPs en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-constituency_Member_of_Parliament

They get appointed by the ruling party. lol

Our head of state is semi symbolic in theory (and fairly symbolic in practice) and is an elected president (tho that's a recent thing, and 2 of 4 EPs were walkovers)
so we're quite diverged from westminister (no upper house for example)

Bob
@jokerdino did you try testdisk first?
photorec won't recover fragmented files
testdisk will

12:30 PM
@Bob yes I did. Nothing showed up on testdisk.
Then proceeded with photorec.

Bob
@allquixotic I swear I saw that in CoD

Got a big bunch of useless files and some relevant photos.

Bob
oh, apparently it's Fallout

;p
Its fallout

@JourneymanGeek, is that old man still alive?

12:31 PM
As far as we know

MM Lee I think

He's one of my MPs ;p

lol
I dont think any other country has a MM cabinet

(sadly I don't know who the other two are other than him and indranee.)
nope, we also have a Senior Minister Emeritus.

Bob
@allquixotic can I join? :P

12:32 PM
Yeah me too.
Just not tomorrow, I got some serious stuff.

I'm probably out till next weekend ;p

Next weekend is fine for me.

(also gives me time to play TF2 in bot mode to try to work out gameplay ;p)

Bob
eh... tried TF2 once
didn't really like it :\
why is there so much "colon cleansing" spam
I guess this is where they dump the results of their cleansing

Been playing Dota2 these days.
I hate you hacktohell. I didnt even ask you to gift me one.

12:38 PM
@Bob: I wish they would take that spam, and...

Bob
we need more variety in the starwall :P

@Bob: alternative might be one of the borderlands games?
You mean the woof wall? ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek hm. I think I have a copy, but never played :P
I liked Sven-Coop, but that's only really suitable for people who like FPSes (HL)
Also, the latency would be painful

I'm not a big FPS fan
lol

Bob
speaking of, TF2 probably wouldn't fare well either

12:40 PM
thinks it can't be as bad as work

Bob
Dunno about Borderlands

@Bob: oh, I've played borderlands 2 with americans before

Bob
@JourneymanGeek well, if you like teleporting and rubberbanding everywhere :\

Worked well
lol
beats me
What would work well intercontinentally? ;p

some kind of text based game

12:43 PM
Moving two server racks today :( hopefully doesn't take all xay

Bob
@JourneymanGeek shrug I'd like to know
Turn-based?

Chess!

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Surprisingly, no!
Not for a timed game.

7 hours later…
7:28 PM
Quiet today..

8:24 PM
Boo
enough noise!?

1 hour later…
9:29 PM
roar
Hello

10:14 PM
Hi!

10:26 PM
I just got hit with a malicious redirect on the NotebookReviews Forums.
This was on a Private Browsing session.
Wasn't signed in and didn't want to on my main browsing window, so just decided to report it through the contact form.
I have an account there, and it's a great place to talk about laptops of all sorts (especially for us Clevo owners), but seeing a malicious redirect makes me a bit scared.
The recent migration from vBulletin to XenForo might be part of this.
(Correction: it's NotebookReview.com, not plural.)

1 hour later…
11:34 PM
@JourneymanGeek Hearthstone! :D
@Bob sure! :P

@allquixotic: Just installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Is it okay to have MBAM and Norton Security scan the system concurrently?
Okay, I just went ahead.
MBAM came up clean on the first scan.
Norton scanning now.

11:57 PM
@DragonLord sure just dont have 2 "active" scanning going on. windows 2 partial protections only scan rarely (compared to something like mcafee and norton), and MBAM you should be able to set to manuel.
If somehow you control all downloading, which probably would include java stuff, and activeX and any .Net that runs from the web (meaning all scripting). then a person only ever need scan that which is new.
