1:04 PM

Bob
@JourneymanGeek webp

@bob : that's the case. Pretty flimsy
What?

It should be jpeg :p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek webp. because links to google are weird.

1:11 PM
Did it from my phone/chrome
fixed

Bob
o.O that's a nice blue white blue
the case looks like a pencil case :P
in fact... are you sure it isn't?
Amazon shipment has left California.

Its not a laptop case ;p
I can't remember what it was labelled
Its a kind of thin foam

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Probably pencil case :P
> CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 1500VA 900W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower has decreased from $199.60 to $176.37
@allquixotic ^

1:48 PM
@Bob: has a zip ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek huh?

I have a sleeve for my old laptop
basically covers the whole thing
0_0

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Pencil cases have zips...

That is insanely cheap
@Bob: Its two dollars. I'm not quibbling there ;p
I was carrying it around in a reusable shopping bag before

Bob
Eh, I'll chuck the Amazon one into my next order.
Which is unfortunately going to be quite a while away.

1 hour later…
2:55 PM
hm

Bob
Hmm?

@Bob: apparently the stream has a equalizer app. For a moment I thought the headphone out sounded horrid. Then I turned off equalisation ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Does it start with B, by any chance?

no
Its "DTS Studio Sound"
And can be turned off completely ;p

Bob
3:10 PM
> HP Stream 8 32GB $139 + Shipping
> 1 GB RAM

32 gb is not much ;p
(granted, a good chunk of that for me is Office 365)

Bob
> 1 Year Subscription to Office 365
...ya
shrug I have enough already :P
The Miix 2 came with Office 2013
Finally activated it; still haven't used it

Bob
I'm still rather pissed off at Lenovo

This came with 365, mcafee and some other stuff

Bob
3:14 PM
Started with their terrible support.

lol
Yeah
My next proper laptop won't be a thinkpad :/

Bob
You know, I actually like HP's support.
And Dell seems decent too.

heh.
We're mostly a dell shop ;p

Bob
Y'know, they actually have live chat on their websites. And email addresses for tech support. And forums. And phone numbers.

Not too bad
especially if you're a big customer and you have tech direct

Bob
3:15 PM
I shouldn't have to spend over an hour trying to hunt down those details... looks at Lenovo and Asus

lol
sad thing is lenovo support here is IBM

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Heh, don't even have to be big... their prosupport warranty is nice (if pricey)

and IBM support used to be awesome
oh
HP tried to upsell me support on this
I think it was 200ish for a year...

Bob
Had to make a call about a new Dell server... the iDRAC firmware had a bug where it locks up after some number of days

(considering it cost me 310.. ;p)

Bob
3:17 PM
Hey, I could actually understand the guy on the other end
Actually, HP's been decent with even their normal warranty support
Haven't bought any consumer Dell machines recently to compare

Dell uses locals/malaysians
We seriously need xkcd 806 compliant support

Bob
Meanwhile... DSE (local store)... I tried to call them to cancel an online order (because why would they ever need a cancel button on the website)... it sounded like a 4kbps VOIP to India

Bob
Horrible noise on the line

If its local, I tend to prefer to walk in

Bob
3:20 PM
Pretty sure the other guy said he'd, ah, do the needful and cancel my order -___-

(actually, may need to do that soon, I'd like to see if I can find a USB 3.0 Cruiser fit for the netbook)

Bob
@JourneymanGeek I don't think the local store even has access to the online ordering system
And their pricing is such that most discounts are online-only

Bob
@JourneymanGeek It's gone downhill in the last... decade? O_O it's really been that long
They sold hobby stuff (basic components; resistors, capacitors, ferrite beads, some basic BJTs) back in 2005-6
Then discontinued that to focus on consumer crap
...hmm, might be going the way of Radio Shack soon
I still have a 128 MB SD card from them
oh, wait, it's 256 MB

lol
I have a 128mb card
from an old camera ;p
My raspi boots off it

Bob
3:30 PM
@JourneymanGeek I think I went through this before, but I have some far smaller (physically bigger) and older cards... not sure if they even work anymore
searches chat history

lol
not as far as I remember

Bob
going through old uploaded images

Bob
3:46 PM
@JourneymanGeek found it!
The "master" one was the one I used on the RPi
Until it randomly died one day.

Bob
SD cards went down to 16 MB O_O
Huh, apparently the smallest were 1 MB

That's not a SD card ;p
that's an MMC

Bob
@JourneymanGeek See the middle card in the first photo :P

Bob
3:51 PM
I vaguely remember buying the 1 GB Kingston card in China back in 2006
Think it was... $50? $100? (converted to AUD at the time)
Or maybe it was 100 RMB ($16)
...nah, that's too cheap for 1 GB in 2006

ahh
This is the micro SD I have inside the Stream now

I keep getting a connection to the server could not be established when connecting to a network share

Bob
4:11 PM
@JourneymanGeek speed test?

help. really, help
I can ping to it fine

Bob
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

yesh

Bob
(Seriously, though, shared folder issues are just iffy... And with that said, I'm going to run away now)
Try mapping it as a drive.
Try net use /delete sharename
Try clearing your credential store

4:28 PM
tried that
net use %hostname% returns 'the command completled sueccessfully'
the /delete also works

1 hour later…
5:51 PM
Can I ask a quick software recommendation question?
I want to do some video editing on Windows. I don't fancy taking out a mortgage to get Adobe Premiere. What are my options?
oh wow, the clippy thing is quite cute
who thought of that, and can we have one in the Android room?
also, it isn't entirely useful, as it brings up one relevant search result, which was closed as a duplicate of a question which has been deleted

6 hours later…
11:24 PM
@DanHulme lightworks maybe? Its a professional/ formerly very expensive nle

11:51 PM
I don't have CDM installed any more ;p
ahh portable version
Doing now
@DanHulme: clippy is an official RA easteregg ;p
also consider blender (which has a video editor that seems oddly well regarded) and openshot (which has a windows port and a well hidden installer I can't find)
