@ThatBrazilianGuy That prompted a check of Hennes's SE accounts
Registered on Mi Yodeya but very little activity there
This is not meant to be discriminatory, to be clear
I, however, simply cannot understand why Jews are a constant target for attack or why they are hated so much
It is undeserved and everyone deserves the same respect regardless of their religion or ancestry
Antisemitism is one of those things that make absolutely no sense to me—I see no reason for Jews (or any other peaceful religious group) to be singled out.

I have a person in my wife's family who converted to judaism and moved to Israel
Other than that, I don't have much contact or knowledge about the religion
And I agree that no group should be harassed just because it exists
ethnicity, religion, skin color, ancestry, sexual orientation, are just personal characteristics

6:18 PM
Sadly, discrimination of all sorts still exists around the world
Even today, African Americans are at a serious disadvantage in a lot of places and I think that's just not fair
I happen to live in a Jewish community and I try to respect their religious observances

> Until the philosophy which hold one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Until there are no longer first class and second class citizens af any nation
Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes
Until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Until that day the dream of lasting peace, world citizenship, rule of international morality, will remain in but a fleeting illusion

Watching 22 Jump Street, good so far

Hi guys
I have a desktop thats doing something really odd, basically downloaded files are all corrupted
Ive wiped the computer and its still doing it so it isnt a software thing i dont think
Ran chkdsk to check for bad sectors but i left it and when i came back it had restarted
Then i tried accessing the nvidia website to get the drivers and ironically some of the images looked corrupted on the website
Like theyd half downloaded and the rest was just filled in
Can anyone think what could be the issue?
Im thinking the hard drive is knackered which will be great right before xmas!

7:36 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy No. I just picked the habit up from Jewish friends.

8:12 PM
@Sippy it does sound like that is the problem. or the ram, ALL this stuff has to go through ram, be it downloads or un-zips or even hard drive transfers of any sorts. If it is a ram issue, writing more of anything, or doing tests , or trying repairs, with the hard drive is just going to make bigger meses on the hard drive. Generally then the ram would be tested first.
Ok cant spell today, better turn on a speel chucker.
It is totally possible to have a fully operational system, and other programs running mostly correct, with the ram doing little glitches.

Yeah i wanted to ask here for that reason exactly
Im guessing i should leave memtest on overnight to ascertain that
Chkdsk says its not the hard drive

@Sippy winders memory test can show nothing even when the stuff is bad, weird. so the memtest86 thing from a boot disk, which means less stuff in the way more ram to test.

Yeah will get that done overnight, have you ever witnessed a wireless adapter causing corrupt downloads?

Last time i had a memory issue i was also able to see it, with Prime95 doing a "custom" and selecting the majority of my memory. it would consistataly fail some of the threads. The ram problem was not outright fails, but combinations of hard work and cooling and all. (super cooling it for testing did not help)
@Sippy Sure there have been all kinds of odd reports of system failes cause by "stuff plugged in". really strange stuff.

Right, ill try the least expensive stuff first

8:28 PM
@Sippy yea like testing if it does it wired , wireless should be insuring all the packets are as they were an all, but it is still flailing about :-) signals flying around , re-negotiate a different speed kinda thing.

The weirdest damn thing is happening now
First download is corrupted every time
Second one is fine
Ah maybe not

Do a compare and you could see how many bits is being screwed up between 2 of em.

Is there a tool i should use to compare?
Im watching steam try to update at the moment and it looks like bits keep being deleted as it progresses

because lots of changes would mean if it was ram, then the system should be failing too, and it makes it more likely to be the download methods.

Like itll get to 25mb then just drop back down to 10mb
Weirdest thing ever

8:32 PM
Windiff is a lame simple GUI thing that will do bit-fo-bit compares.

If i can download it xD

yea i got the last copy from 1995
there are CMD tools that will do it, and many many programming tools that will.

Well ill be damned
Wiped the box and it looks like it was the shit wireless adapter all along
Tethering with my phone is working

@Sippy why would anyone buy a crappy wireless adapter :-) dont they make good ones badly enough

I looked for ones with good reviews
Picked the top one and bought it
I guess d-link shouldve rung alarm bells

8:40 PM
I got a d-link adapter thing it works ok.

I have a micro wireless adapter that works really well
and a netgear, despite being netgear, that does well also

Maybe it just needs a newer driver

Guess the web should put up less "speed Tests" and put up more "data is the same" tests.

Thank you for your help @Psycogeek
Hahaha
Its a shame that android tethering is so unstable
Id have preferred to just use that :(

It is a Doubble weekend warrier day on Superuser. not only are real people with real jobs asking questions, but now they are on TOUR at thier parents houses (christmas holidays) trying to get thier nightmares and malwares sorted out.

8:48 PM
Pahahaha
I am avoiding that responsibility this holiday
Bad enough i thought my computer was dying at the start of my time off!

9:35 PM

Q:How can you tell a male goldfish from a female goldfish? A:Look at whether they eat male goldfish food or female goldfish food. Q:How do you know whether it is male or female goldfish food? A:That is a different issue. So your answer definitively answers the question if I know how to determine whether the PC supports UEFI boot and know for sure that it is not a UEFI 32 bit PC. And if it doesn't support UEFI, I don't know anything? Sounds like if I already know the answer, I can know the answer. — fixer1234 9 mins ago
Honestlly i think it is an OK anwser, it might not be a sure positive method, but any of the newer stuff supports 64bit and has a UEFI. Other rare occurances of that not being true can be delt with , when that doesnt work. And it sure beats the heck out of dissasembling the dang thing .
Top answer , is the most sure way for a monkey, second answer begins to use the tools like a neandrethal. a good 3rd answer would be to use GUI provided information tools in the OS like a freaking human :-)

10:54 PM
Why are you digging in the dirt with your hands?
Because i want to make a hole.
You do realise that programmers have created Shovels right?
Yes but thier shovels do not dig holes like i want to dig holes.
Could be you could change your method of digging holes?
I would rather re-invent the shovel.

Bob
O_O Task Manager can create a dump of a program's memory

11:35 PM
How to scare american empolyees. "we have decided that if china can manufacture all our products, they could also design them" WHAAT!

Bob
urk
Well. Thanks for the descriptive error message!
> The failing step is: Install the system

11:51 PM
lol
Thats wierd
I had a one year old answer unaccepted.

Bob
o.O
Someone provide a better one?

nope
that's what makes it wierd

Bob
Well. The forums are useless :S
Anyone here ever installed Kali Linux?
It doesn't seem to like VBox :\
>

Fixed my system install fail on virtualbox by using the VHD and making sure I had more then 10Gb set for the size.
O_O

Oh, I misread, Its a newer answer.

Bob
Oh wow

11:55 PM
Same issue tho.
@Bob: Lots of people. ;p
(lemme grab a copy and try)
32 or 64 bit?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek I'm doing 32-bit.
But it seems the cause was a lack of disk space.

How big a disk did you use? 8gb?
also, the 'using VHD' bit's probably a bit cargo cult
in vbox, your underlying storage dosen't really matter to the OS

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Yea, 8 GB.
