Q: Which links and sites are handled specially in chat?

Juha SyrjäläThere is special linking to some sites in chat. What is the full list of supported and integrated sites? Return to FAQ index

too many tabs in my browser containing things I need to read about
I'm not gonna set up that new router today, am I? :/

Bob
O_O TIL Ubuntu manpages are oneboxed
sl Displays animations aimed to correct users who accidentally enter sl instead of ls. SL stands for Steam Locomotive.

2:01 PM
I'm having WAY too much fun here :)

Bob
@Kristian Too many tabs? Hah!
Where's that screenshot...

Bob

s/close/open s/Are you sure you want to continue/WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?

there it is ^

2:04 PM
Mind if I ninja edit that?

go right on

Better

Bob
Current tab count on this computer: 239

but dont you DARE comment on the unsmooth edges of my homemade favicon for the intranet tab

(Click and use the full link with the name. Or upload if you want to use SE's special imgur - with no expiry)

Bob
2:05 PM
@Kristian Tip: save as PNG-24 with transparency

wait, what?
I need a link for that SE imgur

Just use 'upload'

Bob
Upload button to the right of the chat textbox
Hm. How come I never notice this guy?
Oh, he hasn't been active recently :\

Bob
@JourneymanGeek You need more SO rep!

2:08 PM
@Bob: My SO rep is a bit of a joke actually
My one answer is "You need to check the documentation. THERE"

now I'm even more sad...

Bob
Huh, @OliverSalzburg is on there.

Q: Chat requirement to post images should be made explicit

Grace NoteThere is (apparently) a 100 reputation requirement to upload and post images through chat. There isn't any easily located documentation on this, however. 100 global reputation is listed as the privilege for creating chat rooms, while the chat FAQ and help both do not mention any restrictions on ...

@Bob soon!

Bob
You might have to wait a day for it to sync your rep.

I will be looking forward to that!
A dilemma has presented itself.

Bob
2:14 PM
@Kristian Have you tried refreshing?
Might work. Might not.

Do I leave chat while setting up my new router. Or, do I move my laptop to the other room and connect my desktop to the router for config while staying online with my laptop on my shared 3G off of my phone
IT'S THERE !! I see the button :D :D
refresh for great victory!
thanks, bob!
uploaded random picture for celebrational purposes!

Bob
@Kristian Bah. They used the newer IE icon for it. Modern IE isn't that bad.
If they used the IE6 icon, on the other hand... :P

no, but it's still bad :P
well, not so much bad, as still worse!

Bob
@Kristian Eh, I could see myself using IE11 as happily as Chrome. Maybe even more.

but then again, that's a very subjective statement.
Home is where your heart is, or how that saying goes
english is not my first language

2:20 PM
@Bob Where?

Bob
@OliverSalzburg See up about four messages.
IIRC IE11 solved the major problem MS had with IE: continuous/frequent updates
Not sure if they'll keep supporting previous OSes as long as competitors, though. Could be an issue if they don't.

Bob
Bad migration! Bad! superuser.com/q/603930/117590
(Bad because that Q is on-topic for SO)

that question is almost 1½ years old
how'd you dig that up?

Bob
@Kristian Came up on the active Qs list.
They get auto-bumped if there's no upvoted or accepted answers.

2:24 PM
can anyone accept an answer or just the author of the question or is that a privilige based right?
well, clearly not anyone.
I didnt think that through

Bob
@Kristian Just the author. Acceptance is considered "this worked for the OP".
The community can vote if they want, but not accept.

@Bob: SO is pretty bad about migrations.
@Kristian: Its in the help pages ;p

Yes, it is. I will go and find it!

Bob
I'm currently doing this

You're allowed. It is, after all, sunday.

Bob
2:30 PM
We... we have a LEGO SE?
@Kristian Monday morning... early Monday morning... 1:30 AM.

You are in Australia?!

Bob
Ya.

Bob is a robot.

It may be monday. But look on the bright side: You have summer to look forward to. I have 4 months of next-to-no-daylight comming up :|

Dane.

2:33 PM
and it's been raining almost constantly for a week..
@jokerdino Youth.

Bob
@Kristian I actually prefer the current cooler-than-normal spring weather. Summer is far too hot.
@Kristian Sure you aren't in Britain? :P

@Bob It's good when you don't have memory leaks in system like I do... I would never make it to 70 tabs even.

Yes, I'm positive. My money has a different queen on them ;)

Ours has a dead president ;p
(though not different dead presidents.)

@JourneymanGeek Singaporean.

2:39 PM
Ours have a bald dead guy

I just learned a new word. Singaporean.
Singaporean, singaporean, singaporean

Yes, I am easily amused.

Bob
@Kristian Did you guess that from his money or did you cheat? :P

2:40 PM
I cheated.

(Also Wauzer)

I wanted to educate myself.

Bob
...we have an emacs.se? wtf

Wow, he's not kidding

I used to emacs. Then I realized I'd have to spend about a year of my life to be more effective in emacs than in more intuitive editors. So now I don't emacs anymore.

François G. DoraisWhile the MathOverflow site is operated by Stack Exchange, Inc., the domain and the MathOverflow name are owned by the MathOverflow corporation. The MathOverflow corporation is completely independent from Stack Exchange and its mission is to ensure the continued operation of the site in a manner ...

Bob
I'm learnding so much about the SE network today!

I tend to favour sublime text these days

I also used to code html in notepad. But that was a real pain. So now I don't.

@Bob I think at some point of time, it was reabsorbed
lemme revise my history
OK, so it seems Mathoverflow is an independent site under SE umbrella

2:48 PM
@Bob wait... was that a tip on how to improve my favicon?
I thought it was already transparent.

Bob
@Kristian Yes, it was.
Make sure it's PNG-24.
How did you save it?

I didn't. I used favicon.cc

Bob
-_-
Lemme guess, it used the ico format?

I am trying to find where I put it (and no, I dont mean in the root of my web folder).
Yes, it did.
This. Is. Awesome!
the paperclip was unsuccesful in helping me.

Bob
Ah, Clippy. Useless as always.

2:59 PM
Aw clippy
I remember having fun with clippy's animation.
Guess that's the coolest thing with it.

I think this is the coolest thing.
apparently someone at Microsoft has a sense of irony.
I succesfully markdowned \o/
I shall reward myself with more coffee.

Bob
@Kristian I need to try that.
brb grabbing WP8 phone

Wait, they actually exist? I thought it was just an urban myth :P

Bob
@Kristian "How old are you?" "I'm a little bit older than when I started answering you. And I'm a little bit older now."
The tonal inflections are realistic o.O
Though that one's probably prerecorded
I don't get Clippy :(
probably need to update
oh there he is
> Ironic hipsters love him. That was an order, not an observation.

:D

What did you ask?

3:13 PM
I'm one of those guys

Bob
@jokerdino "Do you like Clippy?"
> Tell me a joke.
> Why do sharks live in saltwater? Because pepperwater makes them sneeze.
> What do you call two crows on a branch? Attempted murder.
> What did the zero say to the eight? "Nice belt."
The voice recognition is the most accurate I've ever used.
Beats Google by far...
> Tell me a story.
> Once there was a beginning. Soon after, there was a middle. The end.

there he is!

Bob
> Why are we here?
> I've heard from a reliable source that the Answer is 42.

Try asking "Who is Steve Jobs?"
I've always wanted to know

Bob
> Steve Jobs was an American...
It's She's just reading the first paragraph of the Wikipedia intro :P

3:23 PM
Hey, I've been out of the Windows scene for a while. Wasn't there a feature that could speed boot using a USB thumb drive?

not boot

Bob
@AnnikaBackstrom Not boot, AFAIK, but general use.

but speed up the system by caching

Bob
Called ReadyBoost.

it's called what he said

Bob
3:24 PM
But that's only really useful if you have a fast flash drive, or a very slow HDD.

@Bob Thank you!

Bob
> What's the best phone?

Yeah, I was wondering if cheaper SSDs made this technology obsolete

Bob
> I can't pretend to be impartial.

I tried getting it to work with an old acer netbook by using an SD card. The card reader wasn't fast enough, so I gave up

Bob
3:25 PM
@AnnikaBackstrom Oh, not necessarily obsolete.
HDDs are still much cheaper per GB.
And you can put use an SSD as the ReadyBoost cache drive, too.
It doesn't have to be a USB-connected flash drive.

If you plug in a USB-drive in your windows PC, you will get an option to "use this disk to speed up bla bla bla", if it is supported by your system/USB-drive
so it's fairly easy to test
be aware that the USB-stick will have all data wiped, so back up first

Bob
@Kristian ...noitwon't?
Doesn't ReadyBoost just create a file?

umm, I thought it did. I might be wrong
It wouldn't be the first time

Bob
> As the ReadyBoost cache is stored as a file, the flash drive must be formatted as NTFS or exFAT to allow a cache larger than the FAT32 filesize limit of 4 GB (or FAT 16's 2 GB).

looks like you can use a whole device or just part of a disk en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost#mediaviewer/…

3:30 PM
@Bob speaks the truth!

Bob
Cortana sings :D

I don't hear it :P

Bob
> Frere Jacques, Frere Jacques, dormez-vous? Dormez-vous? Sonnez les matines! Sonnez les matines! Din, dan, don. Din, dan, don.
> I can sing this one: Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
> Oh, Susannah, oh don't you cry for me. For I come from Alabama with a banjo on my knee.
> Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam, where the deer and the antelope play. Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the skies are not cloudy all day.
> Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do.
LOL
> On top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese., I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed.
> Here's one I know: Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon!
> Oh, he floats through the air with the greatest of ease, this daring young man on the flying trapeze.
wow
I just know that one as the song you hear in circuses. Never knew its name.

3:58 PM
Are you typing the song by hand?

@Psycogeek What's your take on extended warranties? These guys say they are crap if subject matter is digital camera: dpreview.com/forums/post/54553643

> git ls-tree -z --name-only HEAD | xargs -0 -I {} git mv {} subdir/
me thinks that is a linuxish command
Is there any way to get it working on the command line in windows ?
What is the {} operator ?

Bob
@HackToHell That's part of xargs
@HackToHell It probably works in git bash (comes with msysgit)

@Bob I don't have that :(

Bob
@HackToHell Then what are you using?

4:10 PM
Portable Git

Bob
You can't run that command without git installed, y'know

Nevermind
Portable git has a git bash

Bob
@HackToHell "Portable Git", if I'm looking at the right project, is just a wrapper around msysgit
or more technically it's a wrapper around git for windows, which I've been mistakenly calling by its project name of msysgit :P

bleh the version of xargs with portablgit doesn't have the latest version of xargs that supports the -I option :/
Oh wait it's -i in this verison
> xargs: cannot fork
poker face

Bob
lol?

4:27 PM
Manually copied the stuff ;p

@JourneymanGeek I do like my thinkpad :D

ThinkPad, best Pad.

7:48 PM
NSFW (the music lyrics, not the video)

hmm... I'm quite tired today... Had a sport filled night lastnight.
Watched the LoL World Championship finals, then saw my football team barely scrap through with a win in their game... didn't end up getting to bed until almost 4am. x_x

uh, maybe I should watch some of that before heading to bed :o
I've not been following the world championships at all this time around

It was a decent final.
Also, Google blurred out this woman's legs instead of her head.

8:06 PM
Maybe her legs were making a funny face.

8:21 PM
Could anyone explain this regex if it's not too difficult?http://([^/:]+)(?::(\d+))?(/\S*)?$,)

@ekaj Syntax error.
Closing parenthesis found without a corresponding opening parenthesis

Parenthesis do match. I just counted them!

if (($proxy eq "") && $url =~ m,^http://([^/:]+)(?::(\d+))?(/\S*)?$,)

no they don't. open 1 close 0 open 1 open 2 close 1 close 0 open 1 close 0 close -1

oh right

8:24 PM
@ekaj that ,) must be a function argument

I'm bad

and ^ is part of the regex

the second paste should have the opening ( I believe

regex is the ^.........$ part only, rest is not

ah

8:24 PM
^http://([^/:]+)(?::(\d+))?(/\S*)?$

but then they all match up

yyou can just run that in perl?

not going to teach you regex itself, so if you don't understand the meaning of the explanation, learn regex first
@ekaj as I said
41 secs ago, by allquixotic
http://www.regexbuddy.com/
so no, I didn't "run it in perl"

I don't want to work with them, I was just curious what that one meant

8:27 PM
the screenshot contains a detailed explanation

I know, I'm looking at it
thank you

it's obviously a regex that matches some form of an URI... but I am far from fluent in regex, so would take a while to "spell it out"
this might help
looks to me like it matches any "http://server:port/folder" type string and then splits it up into {server, port, folder}

LOL
thank you for that, best laugh I've had today

8:38 PM
oh, that's brilliant
I'm in tears
will you have my internet babies, please
I'm loving this part also:

A: RegEx match open tags except XHTML self-contained tags

itsadokDisclaimer: use a parser if you have the option. That said... This is the regex I use (!) to match HTML tags: <(?:"[^"]*"['"]*|'[^']*'['"]*|[^'">])+> It may not be perfect, but I ran this code through a lot of HTML. Note that it even catches strange things like <a name="badgenerator"">, which...

@MichaelFrank 7:50 AM, have not yet slept.
Leaving for work in... oh, soonish.
It's gonna be a fun Monday.

I used sense and applied effort instead of just throwing it into some random webapp

@JourneymanGeek @allquixotic - thanks for your help... I couldn't get them working though :( in the end, turns out beyond compare can target sftp remote as well as windows local, so, got it done... md5deep should have worked, but, the output just wasn't compatible with linux, or, i was comparing the end file wrong :/

You have shown me the path to something that looks neat!

Bob
@Kristian Note: ico format is still better overall (and can perfectly contain pngs)
recommendation: resave as ico but without losing quality

Yea, I will do that before I put it online

Bob
GIMP has a good ico save option

8:55 PM
this was just my current prototype

Bob
and can even use the multi-resolution feature of ico through layer abuse, but that's not as useful for favicons

I understand about half of what you wrote :P

Bob
!!listcommands
@Kristian yea, I'm not very coherent right now :P

You're still very helpful, THOUGH

8:57 PM
are you having fun?

Bob
So much effort to get that one -_-
forgot the command, then messed up a few more

I appreciate the effort.
I am going to keep this, and post it here when you least expect it.

Bob
:(

I am having too much fun here. I think I could have done something with my day instead, but I have no regrets.
Still didn't get around to setting up my new router. That's a bit of a bummer, honestly
tomorrow !

9:11 PM

@TomWijsman that may be the first time I've ever seen a cat house.
most people just let their cats be inside all the time

@allquixotic to a cat, all houses are a cat house ;p

In the feline utopia, cat houses you.

9:38 PM
@Bob Trooper!
I also can't do no sleep.

9:53 PM
@allquixotic n?

Bob
Hm.
I usually don't like coffee anyway, but McDonald's coffee seems... worse than others.

@Bob McDonalds, or McCafe?

Bob
@MichaelFrank The former.
Had one of those free hot drinks vouchers.

10:10 PM
Ahh yea...

IMHO, anything McDonalds seems worse than others. I almost exclusively go there when drunk :|

@Kristian 10 CHEEZEBURGAS PLZ

@MichaelFrank Yup, that's about how it goes :)

10:30 PM
Uuuugh... Job just came in for a repair on a 10 year old scanner. I hate working on these things.

10:44 PM
I cant believe it's actually worthwhile to repair a 10 year old scanner. It must be a pretty neat scanner.

if the second change fails... something's terribly wrong
