@Rahul2001 morning

@Dog we are encourage to vote on content. If we find something helpful or unhelpful, voting is good, it indictes if something is excellent or if it needs to be improved. yes I am known to vote, and yes, I won't be leaving feedback most of the time anymore. I have voted in both directions thousands of times
which again is encouraged.
In the past I often left feedback, even at times, it got me in trouble. people it seems often don't actually want feedback.

@Ramhound but that shouldn't stop us from leaving feedback anyways... Some people do appreciate it ;)

S
sure it should. If people find my feedback offensive or objectable I won't provide it
at least once it gets personally for either party
Did this in another room, got better things to do, then be told I have mocked somebody or I am offensive or I don't know what I am talking about or I don't understand. -moOnce that happens, I clearly have to not engage, because people it seems take my feedback has something else entirely. People who claim I mocked them can't be reasoned with

2:53 AM
Uh... Okay

3:19 AM
sigh Evaporator fan stopped working on our fridge. How to proceed?
Fridge is unplugged for the time being to see if defrosting the system helps.

@bwDraco call in a professional ;p

4:15 AM
@Ramhound: Please don't take it personally. If someone doesn't like your feedback, ignore it and move on. You've already done your job.

@bwDraco duhh download a firmware upgrade :-)

Um... Does anyone know how I can get the name of the batch file in itself?
As in get its own filename?

@Rahul2001 Try %0
193
Q: What does %~d0 mean in a Windows batch file?

Chris SmithI'm looking at a batch file which defines the following variables: set _SCRIPT_DRIVE=%~d0 set set _SCRIPT_PATH=%~p0 What do %~d0 or %~p0 actually mean? Is there a set of well-known values for things like current directory, drive, parameters to a script? Are there any other similar shortcuts I ...

Bob
That's callee name, which can be a full path. You probably want %~n0 or something.
Alternatively, avoid using batch for anything remotely complex...
Then again, getting the current module name is a pain in most frameworks.

@Bob I need to make a quine :P

Bob
4:24 AM
@Rahul2001 A quine is generally not allowed to read its own source.
The 'standard'/basic quine pattern is along the lines of "print header, loop-print body, print footer"

@Bob uh... ???
I've never made a quine before...
Also, what's the difference between int* and int *??

Bob
4:48 AM
The space.

5:03 AM
Do we have an expert on graphic design able to explain all these marks?
These are on the end of a tissue box.
I don't quite understand why they have these test patches as on the bottom of this image (CMYK and three Pantone color swatches).
2915, 2172, and 7741 are Pantone color designations, but why these colors?
I can see a registration mark and know what's for, but what's the purpose of everything else here?
On the other side of the box:

5:29 AM
@bwDraco they're the colours in use on that print
basically if the prints are out of registration, those panels are on known points. the CYMK bit is a bit odd, but might let you match shades to fix em I guess?
@Bob tried to play SR2, with the gentlemen of the row mod. Compared with the newer ones... er... everything is frustratingly odd ;p

Bob
5:50 AM
@JourneymanGeek I've never actually played 1 or 2

1 is console only
2 is a really bad port (is there any other sort?)

They use the CMYK spots to control the color. The Pantone spot colors 2915, 2172, and 7741 are used for color accuracy with fine tonal gradations. These spots are checked during printing and the printer adjusted accordingly to ensure color accuracy.
> The color blocks are essentially a tool used to understand how a printer is printing at any moment in time to ensure consistency. The blocks provide very technical information about printing conditions that allow printers to quickly adjust. For example, if something looks too red, the color blocks can help to determine if it’s the Yellow that is too weak or if it’s the Magenta that is too heavy. This keeps printing quality high.

Namaste!

Today I learned that the hosts of Indian coding competitions don't know coding themselves...
They give everyone a voucher to some stupid classes, announce no winners, and chuck all the submissions in the bin... :(

8:57 AM
i don't know what that means

Bob
Drain of blood
Vampire
@JourneymanGeek Beyond The Black?

i did google it but google didn't know it either

Bob
Exsanguination is the process of blood loss, to a degree sufficient to cause death. One does not have to lose all of one's blood to cause death. Depending upon the age, health, and fitness level of the individual, people can die from losing half or two-thirds of their blood; a loss of roughly one-third of the blood volume is considered very serious. Even a single deep cut can warrant suturing and hospitalization, especially if trauma, a vein or artery, or another comorbidity is involved. It is most commonly known as "bleeding to death" or colloquially as "bleeding out". The word itself originated...

Hello everybody out there using minix -

I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing

Why doesn't @ChatBotJohnCavil have a feature to remind us of important dates...
@DavidPostill were you, by any chance, a member of that newsgroup?

@Bob never heard of them
en - to add ;p

Bob
@JourneymanGeek en?

@Rahul2001 No, I don't think so. BTW newsgroups don't have members. They have subscribers and readers :)

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Seems to be fairly recent, but also the right genre/style :P

9:41 AM
its my work anniversary today
i'm now permenant

@DavidPostill lol, I never even got to see one
Fun fact: when Linux was launched, I was -10 years old...

@Rahul2001 They still exist.

@DavidPostill I know, but nobody uses them
Okay, a lot of people seem to...

@Rahul2001 That's a lie :)

@Rahul2001 Many people prefer newsgroups over forums ...

Dog
@Burgi Anniversary? Didn't you just start a few weeks ago?
@allquicatic That looks more like cat-like typing than plane-like typing

@DavidPostill Wait, so Google groups count as newsgroups?

@Rahul2001 Google groups is a web interface to newsgroups.
See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet#Usenet_traffic_changes for the statistics on how newsgroup traffic is still increasing ...
"There are numerous websites now offering web based gateways to Usenet groups, although some people have begun filtering messages made by some of the web interfaces for one reason or another. Google Groups is one such web based front end and some web browsers can access Google Groups via news: protocol links directly"
Usenet is a worldwide distributed discussion system available on computers. It was developed from the general-purpose UUCP dial-up network architecture. Tom Truscott and Jim Ellis conceived the idea in 1979, and it was established in 1980. Users read and post messages (called articles or posts, and collectively termed news) to one or more categories, known as newsgroups. Usenet resembles a bulletin board system (BBS) in many respects and is the precursor to Internet forums that are widely used today. Usenet can be superficially regarded as a hybrid between email and web forums. Discussions are...

@Dog 3 month probation

Dog
9:54 AM
@Burgi Ah, so zeroeth anniversary/pre-anniversary :-P

well they now have to give me 30 days notice if they want to fire me.

@Burgi @Dog The nearest correct phrase/word would appear to be something like "third mensiversary" or "trimensiversary" not "anniversary" :)
"There’s no monthly equivalent for the word “anniversary,” at least not one recognized by standard dictionaries. But for at least 200 years, people have been suggesting “mensiversary” to fill the gap."

sounds grim

10:11 AM
@Burgi I wonder if someone will come along and say mensiversary is sexist ... ;p
But you're right - it does sound grim strange. Probably because of other words coming from the root mensis (latin for month)

10:34 AM

@DavidPostill I use google groups for school sometimes...

Oh, it is Millennium Edition. I always assumed Macintosh Edition.

12:01 PM
@Hennes Hahahaha. Do we know where this photo was taken?

Nope. At least, I do not.
I copied it from twitter.com/_youhadonejob1

@Hennes I demand video footage of a train going over through that! ;P

Hey, this past week our funny photo went viral throughout the whole world. Thousands of shares and likes in many different countries! Once and for all: the picture was taken in Belgium, in a small village called Bornem. After a minor intervention, we had some time left near the railway to make this picture. Since there were no trains running at all for a week due to maintenance works, we can state that our joke was a real success! Thanks to our entire team, 2nd sqdn Firefighters Bornem!

@Rahul2001 and derailing and catching fire.

watt?

James Watt FRS FRSE (30 January 1736 (19 January 1736 OS) – 25 August 1819) was a Scottish inventor, mechanical engineer, and chemist who improved on Thomas Newcomen's 1712 Newcomen steam engine with his Watt steam engine in 1781, which was fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world. While working as an instrument maker at the University of Glasgow, Watt became interested in the technology of steam engines. He realised that contemporary engine designs wasted a great deal of energy by repeatedly cooling and reheating...

Seems like YouTube is overflowing with average joes who want to be famous...

Actually, Tom Scott is already famous

How does it keep up with videos that grow at exponential rate?

Tom Scott is awesome.

2:57 PM
Has been for quite a while
PS, thanks for the favorite, anon

the letter from the manufacturers was the best part

@JourneymanGeek do you watch Citation Needed?

oh hell yeah

No, I was talking not about YouTube gods but but a mere mortals. Everyone has something to teach you these days. How to... 10 ways... 5 secrets...

You mean like watchmojo?

2:59 PM
@JourneymanGeek I agree.
WTH? That 176 year old battery produces 2kilovolts?

@Boris_yo clickbait vs stuff that people actually watch cause its more than SHINNNYYYY

@Rahul2001 the battery does, not the bell

That's literally more powerful than Tony Stark's arc reactor
@varfirstName Yeah, my bad

@JourneymanGeek Attention-whoring on YouTube. Market the heck out of your soul.

BuzzFeed is honestly trash
But they have 3-4 channels for different types of people

So they can manipulate the system into giving them a higher chance of succeeding

@Boris_yo Some here may take offence at that word... please avoid using it...

@Rahul2001 high voltage, low current. I wonder if they ended up with some minor impurity in the metal used due to sheer dumb luck

@Rahul2001 Which one?
the W one?

Still better than TV. 20 minutes of ads being pushed in your throat for 35 minutes content and 5 minutes ending.

3:04 PM
@varfirstName yeah

@Rahul2001 Why would they?

@Boris_yo I don't watch TV. It's a cultural wasteland filled with inappropriate metaphors and an unrealistic portrayal of life created by the liberal media elite.

@JourneymanGeek And that too.

@Rahul2001 what ampperage tho?

Bob
*misses reference entirely* :P

@JourneymanGeek Welcome to Liberal Arts, here's your badge that lets you talk about shit you don't understand at all

@Boris_yo Well, that word has some pretty ugly meanings

@Bob I think half the charm of b5 quotes is a lot of folks don't get em ;p
@Boris_yo that's a quote from a TV show;p

@varfirstName I need a badge for that?

@arda I've just seen the first two episodes... not sure actually
It's not that interesting anymore

the proper messing with you only really started at the previous episode
@Rahul2001 were you ever? ;p

I wonder when the season will end
I'll likely wait and bingewatch

@JourneymanGeek Yeah, I liked the first season... at least most of the episodes

IIRC the show's 10 episode seasons

3:16 PM
How do I open a new chat room for a comment section that's getting excessively long?

@JourneymanGeek Who said that?

its semi automatic

I just don't want to lengthen it any further than it is now

@JourneymanGeek How do I do it from the original thread?

3:19 PM
@JourneymanGeek Well I was talking about Tai Lopez...

@varfirstName you can't

@varfirstName flag for mod and ask to move to chat?

@JourneymanGeek is that okay?

3:21 PM
@Rahul2001 I think I can do that but there's an automatic flagging thing too

One for JMG :)

and more likely than not, we'll delete it

lol
@Rahul2001 Also, I have a limited number of flags.

lol
@varfirstName How much so you flag? ;p

3:24 PM
I've got 10 flags
I've not used any so far
I don't believe
