I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.

@MichaelFrank cavil reboot messages go on Bot Overflow

Ahh, but now how will I know to check the Mighty Ape Daily Deals? :<

12:20 AM
The first rule of mighty ape daily deals is you do not talk about mighty ape daily deals WATCH OUT FOR FLYING POO!

Uh oh, I'm being serially upvoted :/
Surprisingly this is my first time receiving serial votes of any kind

@JourneymanGeek You really like using strikethrough, do you?

@bwDraco almost entirely for comic value.

Also: Is there something I can do with my lack of a sense of humor? In some situations (including dispute resolution), I could come across as very cold for this reason (even if I can fully avoid making incorrect moderation decisions due to emotion or otherwise).
I'm trying to be a bit more casual.
No, Clippy, go away :\

@bwDraco errr... If you're trying to be casual, you arn't

12:25 AM
@bwDraco He just wants to help!

and with humour, you can break down a joke into its constituent components, and never find what's funny. Its all about timing.

If you're really worried about not sounding right, the best thing to do is just not say anything. Usually when I can't find the right words for a message, somebody will come along soon and express basically what I was going for

@BenN Don't do this in an interview. Terrible idea.

LOL, yes, in an interview, silence is not a good response
But in chat it's generally fine

Got this cool little gadget:
Why isn't this oneboxing?
Rather pricey but it's best of breed. Documentation isn't exactly well-written but it's really powerful.
Put simply:

Hold on as I write it up...

Bob
...isn't that just a inline USB power meter? Of the type I could pick up for <$10 off ebay? :\

@Bob It's an unusually advanced model.

1:31 AM
- Hold the button as you insert the meter into the port to select Connected, Quick Charge, or Disconnected modes; let go when the desired mode appears on the display. Connected mode (USB Connect) passes the data wires through to allow communication. Quick Charge mode (USB Fast) connects the data pins to a charge controller that is capable of negotiating with the downstream device for fast charging (including Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, if the power source supports it). Disconnected mode detaches the data pins altogether (they are left "floating"). A fourth mode "Zero" recalibrates the zero p

Bob
*shrug* still seems fairly pointless to me
unless you have particularly special requirements
I suppose for curiosity's sake...
then again, curiosity is why I was considering a (more general/GPO) power meter the other day :P

A one-button UI can't get much more complex than this.

1:49 AM
@Bob My other USB power meter simply had a LED seven-segment display array that alternated between voltage and amperage. This alternating behavior isn't ideal, to say the least.

@Bob Maybe if Benson had one of these...

(Meter specified accuracy: 0.2% basic accuracy. Voltage ± 0.2% + 1 digit, amperage ± 0.8% + 3 digits. For more information on what this means, see electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/23182/…)

Wow it looks like I can extreme PC makeover for $1000
I used parts with most reviews
But I think the pc is already 2 years old given the i5
I'm poor so you know even if I build a computer I won't ever get it
Also today at my summer program, we were given computers to take apart. My group got a rack mounted server
So I was like, "okay set aside the RAM, I might need it for my home server'
so an hour later, I check the express tag of the junk server (dell...) and check the RAM against my home server's. Oh they look compatible, so I think I'll keep the RAM-- poof.
The RAM was gone... somebody literally took it and threw it away.
So, I'll keep my server at 1 GB for eternity
When will I ever get the money to upgrade all the junk in my house
My dad sets money apart for a new car... parts for the pool...

Bob
I feel like I just stepped back 10 years

who the do you think you are, using netrenderer to render netrenderer
i cant canting anymor
So yeah I lost a free opportunity to upgrade my computer
is elon musk ready to take space to astronauts?
it is revolutionary idea
instead of launching rockets to space, launch space to rockets!

legit

@allquixotic ha

@Psycogeek ooh, you recommend any specific model ?

Bob
3:29 AM
@JourneymanGeek how was the shio pan? :P

@Bob pretty damned good ;p

lol, I am now using a soundboard in Payday 2 in an extremely roundabout way
I bought Audiobus and Stereomux on my iPhone (the names sound like gstreamer plugins, but I digress). Then I bought a soundboard app supporting Audiobus. Then I installed Studiomux's server and VST plugins on my Windows box. Then I plugged in my phone to my computer over USB. Then I started Cakewalk Sonar (which I previously bought), added a softsynth track, hooked it up to the VST plugin, then wired up audiobus, studiomux and the soundboard :P
oh and I hooked up the master bus in sonar to virtual audio cable so it comes back as a loopback "capture" device that payday 2 can use
so the audio goes: ( (iphone) soundboard -> audiobus -> studiomux ) -> (usb) -> ( (Windows PC) studiomux server -> studiomux VST generator -> Cakewalk Sonar Platinum -> virtual audio cable output via MME -> virtual audio cable input via loopback driver -> Payday 2 -> internet -> other users )

this is the most awesome thing i've ever seen

@allquixotic summary for people video-challenged? :P

@Bob an 11 year old kid called his office, explained his diagnosis process of a board he had in front of him, explained what he thought was broken, and asked what his next steps were... and Louis was blown away (1) that it's a kid and (2) that the quality of his thinking and analysis was so good, when even fully grown adults in his industry are generally nowhere near that good at analyzing a problem
he offered to help the kid use his equipment and knowledge to fix his board for free if he comes by Louis's office

@allquixotic nice
there are some crazy smart kids out there

The only physics in Schroedinger's cat is the nuclear physics of the decay. The detector, the cat, the box and the physicist are just there to confuse those folks who don't know nuclear physics. — CuriousOne 11 hours ago

@Bob I tried to read the top answer on that... Noped right outta there.

5:38 AM
@allquixotic I saw that yesterday and would have posted it, but people here get annoyed when I post too many YouTube videos... 😉
