9:02 PM
@Ariane You might be able to find the manual online.

Good point

9:17 PM
best is to blow into the sink, although you can also suck. almost all this stuff advantages from better cooling if the fan is pushing into the sink, but it doesnt have to if you had other cooling or flow conciderations. then generally the direction of flow is out the back or up top, again depending on how your case flow design.
This means it is usually on the ram side, blowing into the heat sink to the back of the case and out.

That's what research seemed to indicate
Ugh, the panel connector text is anything but clear

panel connector? the light cble?

The power button, reset, etc stuff. But I finally figured it out. I think.
What's an 1394 connector? My front panel USB add-on has a lot of USB connectors and one1394

9:35 PM
firewire DV is 90% obsolete now, not comming on modern boards.
course if you stick a 1394 on a USB connector (or is it the reverse) it is said to be so incompatable (where the power goes) as to severly damage the motherboard. about that manuel :-)

sounds fun
retweet for me?

1394 is FireWire?

watch where you stick your connector Ariane :)
yes

9:41 PM
I won't plug it in. I don't think there's a group of pins for it

good idea

What about HD audio and AC'97?

HD usually, which might make it more confusing in the device manager as GPUs will also be using much the same name for the audio that comes out of them too.

I plug that into... Whatever slot has the right pin setup?

uhh, you follow the manuel, or read the silkscreen on the board (which isnt easy sometimes) pretty much the only thing you can screw it up with , is to connect USB to Firewire , or bend a Pin where there is a Keyed connector. A connector that has a blocked "hole" no pin will go into. you jam it down and realise it was blocked and the pin under there bends connects to something else and the whole thing blows up in wild flames.
(well all your dreams go up in smoke anyway:-)

9:51 PM
The guide is useless so far. Can't even tell if I installed the CPU right. The instructions are nothing but unclear drawings

everything else that does go together somewhat , can be connected all wrong, and it just wont work correct, like the leds wont light, or the reset button would be on permenent and things like that.

WHY did they only make unclear drawings to explain CPU installation? I have no way of knowing whether I did it right... If it's not installed properly, is there a chance the PC will so anything worse than just not turn on?

the CPU should have one corner thats different or not be symmertrical so that you cant put it in the wrong way
what cpu was it?

6600k

10:00 PM
if you looked at it closely I believe one corner wasnt sharp so it would only fit one way on the socket

It fit in fine. But in the instructions there's something about putting it on a plastic thingie and the whole thing snaps onto the motherboard. I just inserted the CPU onto the cpu spot and tightened the lever on it
I'm worried about this plastic thingie
Lemme give you a picture

@Ariane you stick that on top of the cpu, then snap it into place.
Then take it off, it's just a guide tool.

Oh. Phew.

you had us hanging there for a bit Michael :)

So as long as the CPU was in the right (only possible) position it's fine?

10:05 PM
and dont breathe into the socket, best way to screw up the whole thing is to bend the socket connections.
which bend so easily as to say they will bend if you you breathe on it.

> about that manuel
Manuel no es aquí, senõr

Actually the whole thing was flat ish. No "spikes" to insert like it was with my old AMD professor
Processor

@ThatBrazilianGuy manuel is the guy who installs processors at Best buy, but i find that he isnt to easy to read.

@Psycogeek Yeah, he's quite elusive and misterious.
@Psycogeek I bet if you were an AMD Professor you could read Manuel easily!
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I think you can use git rebase, but if anyone else has already pulled your data, and then make subsequent commits + pushes, it will "come back".

Hahaha

10:18 PM
oh brazilian guy no I have not shared my project yet

What. Corsair link takes to a whole USB 2 port. I only have two. Goodbye, corsair link.

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere See if it helps: sethrobertson.github.io/GitFixUm

I am a bad person and must rewrite published history

Hi root
Mind if I ask a question here? It feels a bit too stupid to post as an actual question.

yeah Thanks Brazilian but I dont have access to my server's config

" As you read in the reference, this may be denied by default by your upstream repository (see git config receive.denyNonFastForwards"

10:31 PM
You can ping me by putting an "@" in front of my name, like that: @CausingUnderflowsEverywhere
@user1337 Go on...

I could but I dont want to bother you

Nah, it's OK. If I don't want to be bothered, I either mute my PC or leave the room.

Looks around. Who is Root today? :)
@user1337 Hi! You can ask. We may not know the answer.

@ThatBrazilianGuy @DavidPostill Is it possible to make my browser redirect me to specified addresses based on what I write?
Like... HYPOTHETICALLY
If I wanted to be redirected to youtube.com when I write "utoob" in the adress field?
Locally that is.

10:33 PM
@user1337 Yeah, that's the purpose of the address bar ;p

@user1337 Seriuosly speaking now, you need to have those addresses either on a local DNS server or on your hosts file. The latter is easier.

Ill make it so when you go on youtube it will give you a blank page or redirect you back to the search engine

Well, now I know it's possible and I've gotten several keywords. I say I'm satisfied with that.

@ThatBrazilianGuy @user1337 Just create a bookmark with a keyword (at least in firefox). That is easier than fiddling with dns or hosts

10:37 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere To be honest, I am far from advanced on git. The most I have done is reverted to an old commit, git rebase.

@DavidPostill That definitely sounds easier.

> The edit command is particularly powerful. When it reaches the specified commit, Git will pause the rebase procedure, much like when it encounters a conflict. This gives you the opportunity to alter the contents of the commit with git commit --amend or even add more commits with the standard git add/git commit commands. Any new commits you add will be part of the new branch.

@user1337

@DavidPostill Does that come in chrome?

@user1337 Let me check

10:43 PM
No, I totally don't battle with my Chrome over my ram

So uhm. I plugged in the computer and went to power it on. It proceeded to rumble like an old lawnmower motor. What the heck?

@Ariane
1) Have you tried turning it off and on again?
2) Have you verified that it is indeed not a lawnmower?
I'd guess some part is loose. Like the fan...

Aah there was a huge cord in the fan. Phew, that scared me.

Dang. I should've suggested to update the drivers.

@user1337 There is a hack for Chrome

10:47 PM
@DavidPostill Hey look, something I can reliably understand. Much appreciated.

@user1337 Your welcome!

Hm, in regards to lawnmowers; Would one such be a viable cooling system?
You know, for the amusement of building a ghetto rig
Actually, at this hour, I oughtta let my thoughts stay in my head where they belong.
Toodles folks. Have a day.

@user1337 I suppose a flymo blade could be used as fan. :)

haha the cord in the fan its scary

@Ariane You are lucky it didn't break the fan bearings.

10:59 PM
@Ariane Or that the fan didn't break the cord.

reallly??? nahhh I put my finger on fans to stop them alll the time
I incur some skin burns but its ok
any ubuntu experts?
this is in my terminal and I cant click or type anything what do I do -.-
let's pretend that means it finished setup xD

11:16 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Use tab or the arrow keys to select OK?

@ThatBrazilianGuy oh is that so?
for the git edit command

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere See the tutsplus tutorial I linked. Specially the second part of it.

wait how to past in ubuntu terminal :(

Windows says I don't have a driver for my network card. When I put in the DVD that came with the motherboard, the program does nothing but crash. Any suggestions?

yup uninstall windows 10 and install windows XP
err I mean windows 7
you can try program compatibility assistant

11:23 PM
@Ariane See if you can find a driver on the manufacturer's website.

or finding the drivers on the cd, copy em to your desktop then run devmgmt.msc and update the network card driver, manually, have disk, and direct it to that folder

Or use Linux :P

Aha. I found a specific setup for drivers by searching the Fokker's. I think I fixed it.
Folders
Now to install Intel graphics drivers because the GTX 1060 of back order...

Hey @ThatBrazilianGuy I'm confused and never know what to do when it gives me that text screen
am I supposed to fill in commands into the text file?

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere What screen? What text file?

11:28 PM
thats what happens when I do git rebase -i

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere That's explained in the tutorial I sent you.

I think I messed up my git way too much for this to even work haha
error: Commit 26c590a992ca651b871ee1f08b43dbc941168ec6 is a merge but no -m option was given.
fatal: cherry-pick failed

just git stash
git reset
and git reset --hard whatevercommit then recherry pick it

@GuitarShoeDave It is! I might try it. It's almost the opposite of Remix OS: it turns your android into a PC

11:37 PM
yeah its tite =)

idk Im trying to get back to a blank
ubuntu, git, nothing ever works perfect for me :(

Well then, this works. I never thought I'd ever use integrated Intel graphics on a desktop computer.

dont have your hpes up if you plan on stressing it out
my intel 530 graphcs failed on me

Haha I'm only using this until the GTX 1060 stops being out of stock.

I had multiple graphic intense stuff that had it always on 100% gpu usage

11:42 PM
I wonder if it can read 1080p video.
OHEY. It works. I'm satisfied.
Can it even play... Hearthstone?

dang that gpu wasnt out when I built my system
nah it's a powerful gpu, it handled an extremely heavy workload it just doesnt know when to tell you that the workload is too large and it's killing itself

So basically... if I overstress it... what happens?

it will give up
next time you reboot your computer it wont boot
oh yeah I think it was warning me, the screen would randomly go black and I had to reboot but I just kept continuing with my activities ignoring those signs

Damn. OK I definitely won't ask it for more than basic stuff.

I'm willing to pay someone to install gitlab-ce on my server with a gui

11:54 PM
Server is getting reinstalled, with the hard drives partitioned properly. Looks like the data backed was taken yesterday morning :)

@DavidPostill thanks for linking the battery question. I do believe I recapped yesterday.

Of course D:

@JourneymanGeek You're welcome :)

11:59 PM
noooooooooo why is ubuntu so complicated
