@Bob the bowows that be?

@JourneymanGeek who are the TPTB?

@Burgi SO/SE staffers?

i thought the bot was run by @Bob?

nope. @allquixotic runs it. But We've had problems with cavil in the past.

Bob
@Burgi If they say no bots, we'll get rid of it. Of course, there was a fairly big uproar last time they were leaning that way. OTOH, there's nothing stopping you from just ignoring the bot...
If you want to start a proper vote to remove just the bot from this chatroom, meta.SU would be the place.
But you're the only person who's really objected in the last two years or so, so... support might be a bit lacking.
Generally, the bot is an aide. Anything the bot can do, a normal user can do too. It's nothing special. At most, it's a bit of a fun pastime.

9:14 AM
@Burgi and if someone uses the bot to intentionally annoy... You could probably ask a room owner or me to mindjail em ;p

Bob
So, yea. If it annoys you personally, add it to your ignore list. If you're hellbent on getting it removed, go start a question on meta.SU.
I won't be happy, and I imagine some others here won't, but that's entirely your choice. There won't be any retribution if you do decide to do that.
And, what @JourneymanGeek said. All bot actions (now) are initiated by a user. If that becomes a problem, we generally deal with the user (usually by banning them from the bot).

" There won't be any retribution if you do decide to do that." Other than angry glares... which might cause your hair to catch on fire.

Bob
^ :P

and random lego on your floor at night.

i was thinking more altruistically as it just seems to cause drama. i'm trying to prevent @JourneymanGeek from going grey ;)

9:22 AM
@Burgi most drama involves people.
and at some point I'm going to just decide longer suspensions are a good idea

clippy agrees with me

goodnight

@Burgi All bot-related drama initiates with a user. Don't propose to take out a social problem on a piece of software. The useful/funny/silly aspects of the bot have been used virtually incident-free by regulars here since 2012 or 2013 at least. If you say "get rid of the bot because idiots abuse it", you let the idiots win.
We have moderation tools for dealing with the problem users. And there are many fewer problem users than people who use it properly.

fair enough

@Burgi and heh. I'm currently debating suspending a few problem users on chat if they do anything that crosses a line. No bots involved.

9:32 AM
i was default to how my mother dealt with me and my sister :)

Bob
@allquixotic So, games in about 4.5 hours? :P

@Bob yeah - I had trouble sleeping, so if you want to start earlier, that's fine with me... I'll probably play until I'm exhausted or you have to go, then sleep in the mid-afternoon/evening
getting my sleep schedule all turned around on the first day of a four day vacation/weekend isn't too terrible; I still have time to reverse it
I think I got like 5 or 6 hours of sleep, so I'm not exhausted now...
might take a nap if you aren't available til actually 4.5 hours from now

Bob
@allquixotic o_O the thing I'm doing before is going to start a bit later than I hoped, so 4.5 hours is probably the earliest... up to 5 if it doesn't go well (Friday night = a couple CS:GO games normally :P)

ok.

Bob
@allquixotic Should I wake you if you aren't back by then? :P

9:36 AM
I think we should try this SoaSE mod, but I don't know if the modders will have it compatible with 1.85 over this four day period or not. I don't think any of the big mods are yet compatible with 1.85
it has a pretty awesome 7 part short story associated that justifies the existence of the factions at least
@Bob if you're ready and you can't find me in the usual places, sure... turning my phone volume to max
there were apparently fairly minor updates to what mods are required to do for compatibility with 1.85, but I guess the task comes down to doing a massive find and replace or regex dump across many text files

Bob
@allquixotic Tonight?
I'm gonna have to download it first.

you have to convert all the sins and mod files from binary to text using a command line based convert utility (there are scripts pre-written to take care of doing recursive directory conversion), then find and replace, then go back from text to binary

Bob
Oh, not compatible yet...?

@Bob no no, it doesn't yet support 1.85 - just saying we should try it when it does

Bob
Ah, sure.

9:39 AM
or we can go full-on crazy and actually try to do the conversion ourselves
the documentation about what changed in 1.85 for modders is out there

Bob
I should probably grab that DLC first.
@allquixotic Hm... perhaps not right now :P

if i renew my passport now is it a european one?

@Burgi the UK has not legally separated from the European Union, yet.

yeah i know

a vote to do it has been passed, and Cameron has to go to the European Council and invoke Article 50
honestly it'll probably take months

9:51 AM
i'm struggling to line my thoughts up coherently today
months is optimistic

Nothing much will happen for two years anyway:
"As a first step, the British government must notify the EU of its intention to leave the EU. The EU and the UK will then start negotiations on a withdrawal agreement. This process may take some time. It is not possible to say exactly how long it will take. The Treaty on European Union provides for a period of two years for these negotiations. However, this may be extended with the consent of the UK and all EU member states."
@allquixotic Cameron's not going anywhere but home :P
Oh, he will resign "by October"
I thought it happened already...

he has given notice
he has to arrange for a replacement or whether he has to send it to a general election

Bob
That reminds me, I have to go vote next Sat

i believe the referendum coverage has been even greater in germany than it has been here

If it "helps the economy" (read: helps line the pockets of the corporate elite), they'll do it. Soon your labor laws will be equal to or worse than those in the US.

A: How do I resolve "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error" on IIS7.0

Jomy JohnI had the same issue, but reason was different. In my web.config there was a URL rewrite module rule and I haven’t installed URL rewrite module also. After I install url rewrite module this problem solved.

best error i've ever seen:
> Cannot open database

TinyURL was the most popular link shortener for long enough that it made it into a lot of printed publications. I wonder what year the domain will finally lapse and get picked up by a porn site.

HTTP error 500.19 wtf what kind of HTTP responsecode is that
Looks like MS doing what they always do, (breaking standards)

Bob
@GuitarShoeDave The actual response is 500, and should be 500 in headers.
It just displays 500.19 on the default error page, to indicate a specific suberror.

Agreed
Ah ok

Bob
That's not breaking any standards...
You can choose to disable the suberrors.
(At least, I think so... been a while since I did IIS)

Gotta love asp.net

@ThatBrazilianGuy no change for 2 years :P

@ThatBrazilianGuy annoying
we were talking about it over lunch and that 2 year timeline is from when greenland left the EU
lets be honest, they are a major world economy
aren't

wait. People have left the EU before?

greenland
in 84

Also.... I didn't realise they were a country

two years is massively over optimistic for us to leave
we were talking over lunch in the office. we think we need 5 minimum and ideally 10
@JourneymanGeek they are a crown dependancy of denmark

1:29 PM
ah right

Greenland (Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat [kaˈlaːɬit ˈnunaːt]; Danish: Grønland [ˈɡ̊ʁɶnˌlanˀ]) is an autonomous country within the Danish Realm, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe (specifically Norway and Denmark, the colonial powers, as well as the nearby island of Iceland) for more than a millennium. In 2008, the people of Greenland passed a referendum supporting greater autonomy; 75% of votes cast were in...

they only have like 50000 people
so its not like a real country.... ;)

It's not.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Well fuck me sideways with a chainsaw, that's my life over.

A: Must the UK leave the EU?

EduardoAccording to The Guardian, the referendum is not legally binding, and the final decision lies with Parliament.

it ridicules the idea of referendum if they choose to ignore it.

i know places like iceland and greenland have serious issues with inbreeding and have government policies to encourage immigration from other countries

scandinavian countries and Japan too

really? i thought they had populations greater than 4 million

the older population is more than the working population
I mean, the dependents are more than those who can support them

Bob
1:40 PM
@allquixotic You around?

ah yes i see what you mean
i was mentioning the inbreeding issue specifically

how else do you get that problem?

but your point makes sense

if people are not making babies, it leads to that

small populations to begin with

1:42 PM
Developed countries generally have a falling birth rate.
I think it's one of the characteristics of it.
Governments wouldn't care if the population is sustainable. But if the working men are getting outnumbered by oldies, that's when they would start wanting you to make more babies.
It's all really a vicious cycle.

@jokerdino at 52/48
If it was landslide, then yes it'd be redicious

I think we should ask John.

still, we're gonna leave

wtf did you think would happen XD

well, some of them were anarchists.

1:55 PM
there is someone in my TL who voted Leave because Leave was trailing in polls

And this is why I said all along it shouldn't be a public vote

he's Canadian

we simply don't have the mindset to decide.

Who let the Commonwealth citizens to vote?

@Bob I'm awake

Bob
1:59 PM
@allquixotic I was just about to message you :P

I brought up your SMS and almost dream texted you before I was fully awake.... something about keeping the cicadas out of the mushroom sauce

0_0
That's always important

Bob
o.O
Yes, we don't want cicadas in the mushroom sauce.

have you ever met a cicada in Australia?
they recently came out of the ground here

Bob
@allquixotic Yea, we get them.

2:05 PM
those are the ones that come out every 12 years right?

no, not 12 years! they have both annuals and periodicals

Bob
I've only ever seen the husks.

but the incredible, fascinating, math-geeky part of cicada periodicals?

Bob
Shared me good as a kid :P

THE PERIODICALS COME OUT ON PRIME NUMBERED YEARS @_@
creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy

2:05 PM
@Bob cause the rest of them are in the mushroom sauce.

Bob
Also, I didn't know it was a cicada at the time. I thought aphids were called cicadas.

\o/
Giant bandaids!

Bob
@allquixotic I'm just gonna install teamspeak on my laptop and I'll be ready
Wait. Not aphids. Gah.

I think the periodical cicadas come out on prime numbered years to prevent accidentally having all the broods come out on the same composite year

grasshoppers?
locusts?
facehuggers?

Bob
2:07 PM
@JourneymanGeek No... the little white things with giant wings? :S

butterflies?

Bob
@allquixotic Next question: how do they know?! :P
@JourneymanGeek no...

Hynerian Dominars?

Bob
I'll get a photo one day.
They seem to like the mulberry tree.
And, no, they're not silk moths.

whiteflies?

Bob
2:09 PM
Hm. Maybe a type of whitefly.

Whiteflies are small hemipterans that typically feed on the undersides of plant leaves. They comprise the family Aleyrodidae, the only member of the superfamily Aleyrodoidea. More than 1550 species have been described. == Agricultural threat == The ability of whiteflies to carry and spread disease is the widest impact they have had on global food production. In the tropics and subtropics, whiteflies have become one of the most serious crop protection problems. Economic losses are estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars. While several species of whitefly cause crop losses through direct...

Bob
Ah these ones.
Except with a sharper angle to the wings.

@jokerdino if you live in the country you should be allowed to vote as it affects you too.

Bob
actually no
they're too small

and we consider commonwealth citizens honorary brits

2:12 PM
@Bob maybe evolution caused the untimely death of any broods that attempted to surface during composite numbered years over the millennia?

@allquixotic Its a count down. TO AN ALIEN INVASION! OF BUGS! PSYCHOMUTANT ARDWARKS! AND PENGUINS!

Bob
@allquixotic Logic says yes, intuition says "wut?!" :P

consider: if you had a "2-year brood" and a "10-year brood", once the two coincide, the demand on available tree-leaves to lay their eggs will be too much, and they won't be able to lay enough eggs
they might even accidentally kill enough trees that the 2-year brood might end up dying off completely

@Burgi is that extended to all commonwealth countries?

i think so
i think you have to have been here for over a year
> be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland

2:17 PM
Checked the list.

Bob
@allquixotic Ok, I'm ready. TS, Steam?

india is on the list ;)

I am not on my own country's electorate.

@allquixotic I'm already in there :P

oh, I had a random dream last night about being selected as a minor supporting actor in the next Star Wars and being painted/CGI'ed as a black man... wat

don't ask

2:23 PM
I'm going back to learning how to into jquery

@allquixotic ... am I in the wrong TS? :P

@Burgi cheaper than a wall

@electronbeam Aw... nice!

@Burgi you know, India is one country which hasn't talked about Brexit at all.

2:25 PM
needs a moat monster tho
@jokerdino india has its priorities right. World Yoga Day?

lol haha
actually, they said they respect UK's sovereignty or some shit like that. Besides the failed NSG bid.

we were busy trying to get into NSG.

Nsg?

@jokerdino That's code for "please don't invade us again please please"

2:27 PM
@electronbeam the brits never actually invaded india

Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is a group of nuclear supplier countries that seek to prevent nuclear proliferation by controlling the export of materials, equipment and technology that can be used to manufacture nuclear weapons. == History == The NSG was founded in response to the Indian nuclear test in May 1974 and first met in November 1975. The test demonstrated that certain non-weapons specific nuclear technology could be readily turned to weapons development. Nations already signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) saw the need to further limit the export of nuclear equipment...
that failed.

@JourneymanGeek meh, semantics

They basically did a few small wars and creeping intoxication of local leaders

@JourneymanGeek you say tomato, i say invasion. meh

there was no India that they could invade. India was not a sovereign state before British.

2:29 PM
that too
and the british empire never existed ._.

It was a whole lot of princely states that were fighting each other.

@Bob we'll get the mexicans to pay for it! oh wait...

@Burgi just sell a bridge.

lol. "Learn Japanese to Survive! Hiragana Battle" game is out on Steam

2:31 PM
Is that like that clicker game you were playing?

2:51 PM
i have a diagram with numbers on it indicating various areas. the accompanying text refers to these numbers. is there a correct semantic way to mark up the numbers?
worth asking on SO?

3:04 PM
Man... this world is so messed up.

'evening everyone.
short question that I am not sure would fit in the site: I have a smartTV connected via hdmi to my main pc. it is in a different room and I use it to watch films and dvds.
is there a way in which I could attach to it M+K and control the pc from the other room? (for example by substituting the hdmi cable with something else) or do I need to pass 1/2 usb cable(s) and there is no way around it?

I starred both because I WANT CHAOS MWAHAHA!
@Federico Well, there is HDMI CEC where you can use your own TV's remote
But there are a "few" drawbacks - you need support on your TV, the software you use, and a hardware decoder somewhere. Also, every TV manufacturer has a different falvor and brand it with a different name.

@ThatBrazilianGuy eh, I was more thinking about gaming, the remote would not really help me (the other room is much cooler in these days)

And it would be appropriate only for movies (playback, pause, etc)
I've used it on my LG TV with an older Raspberry PI and xbmc / kodi
@Federico I don't get it. Which room is the other room? And do you intend to go gaming or watching movies on the tv? Or general computer use?

room 1: where the case is. office room, usually I work and play here.
room 2: the other, aka the living room. where the TV is and where I watch movies/dvd through the pc.
room 2 is cooler than room 1 in these days, so I was looking for an idea to work/play there without moving the case

3:17 PM
I noticed something very odd today....
My medication appears to slow down my perception of time
Whether or not I was late on a dose seems to be the only thing that correlates
Weird.

I wish I could slow down my perception of time...

@Rahul2001 it's quite old, isn't it?
