Yay!
Though I guess it's not completely over yet
Now to stop the utterly insane Compliance with Court Orders Act

Bob
1:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek tutorial! :P

Bob
2:10 AM
Oh. Wow. I need to stop clicking on ubuntu.se questions.
These answers are... bad. No, that's not an appropriate word. They're horrible. Terrible.

Q: Chrome safer than Firefox?

SocratesI was always very happy with Firefox and never felt the need to change to Chrome. But Adobe has stopped supporting Flash on Linux and Google has taken over this task. Though Google only supports its Flash for Chrome and not for Firefox. Is it now necessary to change from Firefox to Chrome to enj...

And they're upvoted.

2:28 AM
The accepted answer at least got some stuff right. Google are indeed going to stop allowing Flash to autoplay by default and instead provide a prompt to enable the content if you wish.

Bob
@MichaelFrank Which isn't really completely relevant to the comparative security discussion... Firefox has had click-to-play for years by now.
Speaking of which, I've noticed an alarmingly large number of assorted news sites with some random Flash widget.

3:08 AM
@Bob The answer isn't bad but damn what a bad question. Cringe.
Wow. Just wow.

Bob
@SimonSheehan Little from column A, most from column B.
I can see why someone would ask the question. Not the greatest, but it's at least coherent.
Which is more than I can really say for the answers.

@Bob At the very least yes, that is true.

Bob
The accepted answer glosses over things and is plain wrong for at lease one of them, but it's decent...ish.
The other (upvoted!) answer is... wut.
It doesn't even try to answer the question!
"Firefox is better because of <unrelated reason>. YouTube doesn't use Flash!"

3:29 AM
Do you guys know any pdf reader with good OCR?
Sumatra and Adobe fail with this kinda text

@HackToHell most PDF readers don't have OCR built in I think

Oh, Google Docs can't convert it
I need a tablet

the selectable stuff's usually embedded inside after something has ocred it

Reading from my phone/laptop isn't working out
@JourneymanGeek oooh
I thought it was all ocr

OCR is hard ;p
so no point throwing it into a viewer

Bob
3:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek The editors (Acrobar Pro, PhantomPDF) do iirc

@Bob he did say reader, not editor.

Can I use one media converter to give internet access to 3 houses near my. My ISP saying he will be needing 2 media converts at each home with 8 port switch at each home. is it necessary? I mean can't we connect like

Fiber optic cable -> Media Converter -> 8 port switch -> (via LAN Cable) WiFi Routers ?

sigh
If you're going to copy and paste your question, shouldn't you do it right?

3:44 AM
Also, please get to know the rooms you're talking in before you randomly throw a question in.
also, ISP is likely full of it. You basically need a single ONT at the fibre optic endpoint. Ethernet to another house or even an apartment will be tricky though.

I'd totally see why they'd say that tho

@Bob Are there any in the Office suite

Bob
4:03 AM
@HackToHell ...dunno.
wtf is a "Media Converter"?

@Bob apparently fibre goes in on one end, Ethernet out the other.

Bob
4:17 AM
ah

Used for the products that only use Ethernet in business's or homes.

@Bob cool

5:06 AM
question is why two?
Unless its one per fibre

5:53 AM
phone company came by again to sell "fiber" which is actually copper supported by fiber somewhere. I asked "where was the fiber ?" again , he said it was there. I said "they haven't torn up the street for it yet" he said they dont have to , they just pull it through :-) and what is left of the tiny pieces of glass after pulling it 2 blocks through 6 corners and 4 T junctions down the 1.5" pipe will probably work perfect. :-)

@Psycogeek that made my day. What did he say?

He finnaly left , when I tried to show him the street connection box available. He said "I am not authorised to look in the box" If the other person there knew anything we could have both laughed him off the property.

heh, we have fibre to the premises As in literally fibre up to a little box, and a little more fibre from there to the ONT

6:25 AM
+1 That's the first time I noticed the Saturn V fins are labelled. It "didn't need them but they wanted somewhere to label the engines." heh heh. — Level River St 6 hours ago

6:48 AM
useless fact for the day: the term "hyperlink" existed before home computers did, let alone the "internet" . "The term "hyperlink" was coined in 1965 (or possibly 1964) by Ted Nelson at the start of Project Xanadu. Nelson had been inspired by "As We May Think", a popular 1945 essay by Vannevar Bush. In the essay, Bush described a microfilm-based machine (the Memex) in which one could link any two pages of information into a "trail" of related information.

is there a graph showing what the average rep of active only users is?

at the bottom of the Su pages is a button called "data" which has a bunch of scripts that can be applied data.stackexchange.com/superuser/queries you can even make your own. other than that i dont know of the specific ones that would do that, or even if it is possible.

good "morning" fellas

you assume we are all "fellas"
and that it is "good".... ;)

fact of the night: Remix OS's Grub bootloader doesn't send you to windows in win 10. So you have to overwrite the grub using Ubuntu and then boot windows 10 from there.
also I am really good with windows...
you have a chatbot here right?

@ChatBotJohnCavil is the bot

please don't use it

7:42 AM
how

Bob
oh, that reminds me

the chatbot probably gets the same BS as anyone else Capchas for odd behaviour, i dont think that google perma-bans anything, just blocks things until a capcha is completed.

Bob
@allquixotic I'm thinking of redirecting the google command to bing... at least they have a decent API
Google APIs are typically either shit or expensive. Or both.

Go to youtube and search "do the harlem shake" and wait. I dare you

Or better yet put some tannerite in the barrel and shoot it. You dont want it to have any chance of survival.

I use windows 7 and windows 10 daily. I like them both for different reasons. And you cant find stuff in windows 10 or 7 @Burgi ?

Bob
8:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek did you ever get a response for the second attempt?

RIP windows 8 service pack

@NetworkKingPin they've hidden settings in win 10

@Burgi That is the truth. I hated all the information it sent back to Microsoft. Think I have that taken care of now though.

oddly the last attempt is still listed as under review.
@NetworkKingPin my vocabulary is limited. I do not know the meaning of surrender :p

@JourneymanGeek surrender is like forfit - give up

@NetworkKingPin I have applications going out all the time. I also have a agency giving me a hand in theory.

9:05 AM
ye
bye

I'm using LinkedIn, the local jobs bank and careers.se for leads. The last had a junior sysadmin gig that seems pretty sweet.

that was the one you linked the other day?
did that international agency i linked not help?

@Burgi er, I think their local page was dropping me into the one for Scotland
This is a local place

9:30 AM
@JourneymanGeek sounds great man. Patience is a virtue.
@JourneymanGeek what is your name on linkedin ?

@NetworkKingPin Ravi Mohan
@Burgi I have them bookmarked, I'll probably pop em a CV next week, once I've got time to write a cover letter.

no worries :)

Bob
@JourneymanGeek :\
@JourneymanGeek how long did it take for the first attempt?

@Bob I'm not sure

i made it to the final 4 but they went with others
i suspect it was probably cost

@NetworkKingPin superuser.com/questions/1081131/… Before i make an even bigger fool of myself grasping at straws, you might have an idea on this one? I dont really do well with networking, my stuff is so simple.

the hr person is going to email me feedback

@Psycogeek he may be able to use a host file like you said to redirect it to the right ip. it would look something like this. # 37.xxx.xxx.8 customerarea.mycompany.com

10:00 AM
@NetworkKingPin or at least see what happens then. Myself if i was pointing to a specific company internal unchanging address , I would try and use numbers to begin with , Miliseconds :-)

They should have just added a redirection to the new IP.

He hasn't yet confirmed that the host file doesn't contain an entry with the wrong IP address:
Anything in the hosts file? — DavidPostill 19 hours ago

@DavidPostill haha touche you did ask him that.

The browsers were not configured to use a proxy. I have configured one to see if it would change something but it wouldn't. There is nothing in the host file relating to that IP. — Olivier Leneveu 18 hours ago
which assumes there IS something (at least) in the hosts file being used?

@Psycogeek Ah. Missed that.

10:06 AM
I believe it is one of those person who knows thier stuff, and windows has tossed them a hurdle.

Yes. It is a weird problem given that none of the normal diagnostics have pinpointed the issue

could be an IPconfig /ALL would reveal something , i wouldnt know how to read anyway :-)
Similar questions have been asked before , superuser.com/questions/495759/… & superuser.com/questions/220471/… & others, see any accepts?
another crasyness of that type here, with the person solving it superuser.com/questions/906555/… Registry data was supposedly missing.

Has he tried to user another Browser I wonder. Since Chrome is reporting it as the old address following this guide could help him fix that. webnots.com/correct-chrome-resolving-host-issue

Freaking huge answer i aint reading :-)

10:25 AM
@NetworkKingPin "when using any browser (firefox, chrome or IE)"

superuser.com/questions/1081414/weird-response-of-my-keyboard whomever approved this edit (no it wasn't you) should be beaten with a stick. Toss out on fanny and beaten with 3 wetted noodle 50ish time.

i accidentally approved one of karl's a few minutes ago when my connection was going werid
was going to reject it because he missed a load of grammar stuff

@Psycogeek It's a perfectly valid edit, but could be improved ;)

it is a cute edit, they did nothing but add cute KB junk that makes little difference. It was still painfull to read.

He also removed some fluff "Please help regarding this issue."

IMO i do not have a problem with accolades, so I actually prefer those things stay, it is actual etticut uhh manners

11:43 AM
Your face is painful to read

How about this edit (by the OP) that IMHO has made the question harder to understand superuser.com/posts/1081114/revisions

Now I hope I have been clear :-)

Reopen rejected ;)

@qwertyuiop his face is a surprised baby ape, not as painful as a pissed off looking cat

oh that cat is fat & happy, it just is confused that anyone COULD pick it up.

Q: Mysterious hieroglyph in a command of a Spotify process after update

zerkmsI've just spotted that right after update spotify starts itself up with a command line that looks like Spotify.exe /UPDATECOMPLETE "䣈!" I can understand the purpose of the /UPDATECOMPLETE key there, but what could the mysterious "䣈!" mean?

It would be fun if this was posted around April 1st, a rediculous explaination for it it would be so much fun.

Hmm
And I can't just JFGI, because 䣈 comes up with no sensible results
Memory corruption ftw.

like, It signifies the program is installed in windows, cant you see the windows quad pannel logo?

Yaaaaaawn
Good morning

My nose looks like I've snorted a ton of coke
But I haven't snorted a ton of coke

12:01 PM
I... have no idea how a coked nose looks like.
@qwertyuiop So how much have you used?

sniffs a lot, sweats more, and after a "ton" the 2 nostrils no longer have a seperator.

Nasty stuff

I have random nosebleeds sometimes. I can go weeks or months without it, then it happens days in a row. Sometimes a little bit, sometimes a lot.

@ThatBrazilianGuy I haven't snorted any coke

12:04 PM
@qwertyuiop Really?

I asked the doctor why it happened... He told me to stop using coke. I stopped using that doctor.
(I never ever used coke, for that matter. Eew)

brown liquid or white solid?

@JourneymanGeek Both are disgusting. But I have used the liquid one in the past.

Next what happens is you start calling your machine gun, "Your Little Friend" and about 60 bullets later your dead.

Let's change the subject

I am currently on my mobile, in bed. I am just waiting for my wife to leave for work, so she doesn't witness think that I stay in bed all day with my laptop :p

I believe theres something blocking my nose
If I walk outside, I simply cannot continue to breath via my nose
only when i'm sat down not moving, can I only breath via my nose

@djsmiley2k Welcome to my rhinitis.
Although it only blocks one side each time.

Also I can't smell stuff that well.

12:16 PM
see i haven o issues smelling, that I know of
but....
I have GERD :O
maybe that's caused it

@qwertyuiop what's with you and vehicles crashing?

@djsmiley2k GERD sounds like the name of a middle-aged grumpy dude

@ThatBrazilianGuy Learning what not to do

@ThatBrazilianGuy I read a medical artical that said that the body works on one side of the nasal passages at a time, all completely normal to always have one side with more mucas than the other.

12:18 PM
@JourneymanGeek Do you know what 䣈 means?

nope
I don't speak/read chinese at all

Bob
@DavidPostill It's not a current word.

Ah. I thought you understood some ...

Bob
> Unicode Han Character '(ancient form of 巷) (interchangeable 衖) a lane; an alley' (U+48C8)
And, yes, I've checked the UTF-16 and UTF-8 representations, neither of which make any sense as raw bytes nor interpreted as Windows-1252.

@Bob Yeah. I know. Answered the question ;)

Bob
12:20 PM
@DavidPostill Heh. I looked at the question (& looked it up) when it was first linked. Didn't see your answer.

@JourneymanGeek Ah. I thought you understood some ... didn't we have a big discussion about the characters for Chinese New Year?

@DavidPostill My chinese is extremely limited. Stuff like cny greetings you pick up from mass media
but I haven't taken mandarin since kindergarden

Bob
@DavidPostill For the record, that downvote wasn't me :P
I just left a comment.

@Bob lol

Haha

1:16 PM
I have a problem with a NETGEAR DGV2200v2 router ignoring my computer being a DNS server even though I configured it to, is it on topic here?

1:27 PM
@AmitGold for the main site, sure

i could snooze after that lunch...
