There, rss feeds rebuilt, least as far as I can remember
@CanadianLuke were the partitions created on OS X or windows?

1:09 AM
That's my phone termination point. D:

@JourneymanGeek osx side

1:44 AM
Fuck it's 2am
and I'm still a cat

2:05 AM
Hmm. Maybe OS x partitions differently...

@CanadianLuke can you do detail diskin diskpart?

One sec
DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

Hmm. OK
What you've got is Windows thinks the disk is MBR, not GPT. MBR only allows 4 partitions, but GPT is required to boot in EFI mode (though Bootcamp hacks all that anyway)

But Windows 7 SP1 supports reading GPT disks...

Q: Windows detects GPT disk as MBR in EFI boot

A: Windows detects GPT disk as MBR in EFI boot

Rod SmithDid you happen to use Apple's Disk Utility to create a FAT filesystem in that to-be-Windows partition? If so, you converted the disk from a legal GPT disk into a hybrid MBR disk, which OS X sees as GPT and Windows sees as MBR. The solution in this case is to clear the hybrid MBR data. A number of...

Nice find...
Looks like what I want isn't possible, though

Oh?

Well, I'd have to reinstall Windows 7 in EFI mode...

Ah
I wonder if a startup repair would do the trick

2:45 AM
No, doesn't in regular instances

3:09 AM
Based on what that answer states, it's likely I can't do it while Windows is installed in BIOS mode.

How do people play games like this so well? What am I missing?

Q: How do I improve my gameplay in turn-based strategy games, given that they tend to be difficult?

bwDracoTL;DR: Turn-based strategy games tend to be designed for high difficulty. As a less experienced gamer, how do I improve my gameplay in TBS games to meet these high standards? Don't you hate when you order a pizza and then accidently, because you switched your address in your profile, send it to a state 280 miles away?
I was comparing the menu between the two addresses then proceeded to just order :$

LMAO! What states?

I moved from GA to FL

> And when luck fails him, Zemalf falls back on his slow and thoughtful playing style, methodically considering every option before making a move. He narrates his Let's Plays the same way, speaking in a deep, calm voice.

Nice...

That's the answer.

Was trying to order breaded wings from Pizza Hut, and compared the two menus, and ended up ordering from the wrong location.
Apparently the GA location does have breaded wings..

This is the exact same issue.
Oct 21 '15 at 2:45, by DragonLord
Effective immediately, I'm going to be making major changes aimed at addressing self-control issues that have repeatedly cropped in this chat room. My focus will be on being a calm and stoic person at all times, never losing control of myself, so that I can always act in a constructive and controlled manner even under the difficult conditions. I will not let anything like this happen again.
> slow and thoughtful playing style, methodically considering every option before making a move
Feb 3 at 6:33, by bwDraco
Unfortunately, my tendency to shoot first and ask questions later breaks this.

@Ramhound I didn't know they would change their menu based on location... Mind you, we only have one Pizza Hut in my town

4:29 AM
So I ordered a very expensive pizza..

Wait, is the GA Pizza Hut delivering to your house in FL?

Some are not franchises

The reason I have trouble playing hard games of this sort is exactly the same as the reason I have these outbursts here.

but still take part in the online ordering
This location I normally order from now did have the breaded wings, but for the last month, they have not.

Any thoughts?

4:31 AM
@bwDraco We all have those moments. Just recognize them, then think like a responsible human, and talk out your decisions. Life's too short to worry like that
@Ramhound Those bastards! Not having your breaded wings...

lol
I always order to much food. So its my own darn fault.

I took a closer look at the article and the cause of the issues I have with these games is no different than the cause of the issues I've been having here in chat.

@Ramhound I should ban you... No such thing as "too much pizza"... Just saying :P

Exact. Same. Problem.
4 mins ago, by bwDraco
> slow and thoughtful playing style, methodically considering every option before making a move

What normally happens

4:33 AM
@bwDraco It all comes down to your brain, and how it's wired. You have multiple stages or areas of your brain that dictate certain thoughts

I'm committed to making sure this is how I behave in the future.

I order bunch of stuff and a pizza
then end up not eating the pizza.

@Ramhound Cold Pizza is good too... Just saying...

Making snap decisions is never OK.
Feb 3 at 6:11, by bwDraco
My experience tells me there's one thing in common with the best leaders: they are calm, cool, and collected.
Well, there's an upside to this: it means that there is just one problem to solve, and it is to be calm, cool, and collected.
It is my failure to stay calm under stress that causes me to misbehave. There is quite literally no other plausible explanation for these issues.
For the exact same reason I presently would not be a good mod.

@bwDraco Don't aim for being a mod right now. Yes, some parts are awesome (like shaping a community), but it's still a lot of work. Being patient and thinking lots before you act in certain situations are critical.

4:42 AM
@JourneymanGeek: Your thoughts?

I've been called out on Meta SE to defend myself a few times. I can always explain my actions, but there are many people who would try to make you break.

Perfect XCOM game at the highest difficulty level—thanks to the player's personality characteristics that are the exact opposite of what mine are—and that form the basis for my end goal in life.

Patience is the biggest thing you need to work on.
BRB, gotta reboot the computer

I've said this countless times and I'm going to say it again: I am committed to making myself a calmer person able to make sound decisions even under extreme stress. I firmly believe this to be my ultimate life goal as all my research and experience agree that this one skill is the key to success in every aspect of life.
(This might be worth pinning.)
Onward and upward!

4:59 AM
@bwDraco I maintain what I've said before.
You're ready to be a mod when other folks start bugging you to be a mod
@HackToHell No, there are many ;p

I'm aware I'm not ready.

@CanadianLuke I've had someone complain about me. Funny thing is I can't read the post cause I don't have enough rep

Really, it's this one aspect of my personality that's holding back my full potential.

@bwDraco also I'm not calm. I try to be self aware but there's a difference.

Yes, I'm self-aware of these issues. The problem is not a matter of self-awareness but whether I take the appropriate actions to address the issues.

5:01 AM
(also, I occationally don't give a crap.)

@JourneymanGeek Yeah too many

It's been at the heart of my research for the last several years. I know I need to be calmer. Self-control is everything.
The question is how do I actually implement a working solution?

@bwDraco the fact that you researched this is part of the issue
The secret to calm is to be able to let go
to let things take their own path

Well that's very Zen of you.

(also, know exactly where to hide the bodies)

5:08 AM
@bwDraco I'm hot headed myself

@qasdfdsaq or should I say "stop giving too much of a shit what other people think? " ;p

Speaking of self control, I have none. It's 5am and I'm playing KSP again.

But the fact that I am a little bit of a coward gets in the way of my impulse to shout/break things

I stand by my word.

and embrace your inner terrier?

5:09 AM
@JourneymanGeek Well I've been practicing that for a while, and it's resulted in a few bans

Be like a cat
Cat doesn't give a fuck

Yeah that's a good idea too

@qasdfdsaq rofl. cats acting like dogs!

@allquixotic Yup. It's a marketing campaign from my mobile provider.

that's a Maine Coon cat, isn't it?! <3
my kitty is Maine Coon but she's brown and black instead of cream colored

@allquixotic: Your thoughts on the perfect XCOM game and calmness under stress?

5:18 AM
@allquixotic or maybe a norweigian forest cat
aka the miniature Norwegian flufftiger.

@bwDraco how does calmness under stress relate to the perfect XCOM came? :P

I've played lots of turn-based strategy games, but most of 'em aren't timed, so I just take my time, as much as I need, to suss out the best course of action from the ones available, even if it takes me much longer than most people
if it IS timed then I tend to get a little stressy, make mistakes and probably lose

I think so, yes.

also, I suspect @allquixotic know exactly how impulsive I am gaming ;p

The same issue at the heart of my problems here in chat.

The one problem itself is hard to solve.

I'd like to introduce you to Mr Fermi

...but it really is a universal skill.

Enrico Fermi (Italian: [enˈriko ˈfermi]; 29 September 1901 – 28 November 1954) was an Italian physicist, who created the world's first nuclear reactor, the Chicago Pile-1. He has been called the "architect of the nuclear age", and the "architect of the atomic bomb". He was one of the few physicists to excel both theoretically and experimentally. Fermi held several patents related to the use of nuclear power, and was awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on induced radioactivity by neutron bombardment and the discovery of transuranic elements. He made significant contributions to...
He had this amazing talent for breaking down a big problem into a series of small problems

5:59 AM
@JourneymanGeek In my experience, that's a learnable skill.

The one problem is many little problems.

I've done lots of "R&D" of my own in trying to address the sub-problems.

I'm job hunting now. Its one big problem. Its also many little problems (Identify and classify jobs based on desirability, optionally tune up resumes for the job, deal with first level interviews with non technical folk, deal with second and subsiquent interviews...)

For instance, how do you make sure you don't lose control of yourself when something bad happens? How do you prepare yourself for a difficult situation? How do you calm down quickly? How do you ensure you can continue to make sound decisions under stress?
It's all unified into one key issue with one key skill to build, but there are lots of sub-problems involved.

Well perspective

6:03 AM
I'm well aware of this.

It's only gotten worse since, to the point where I've genuinely risked a suspension on the main site:

Nearly got myself banned for good.
Alright, gotta go. It's getting late here.
It's pretty obvious what I need to fix, and it really should not be that hard.
Implementing what you proposed should only take a few days at most (and can in fact be done by end of day tomorrow) and would be a big gamechanger.
Always calm, never out of control.

6:31 AM
heh
I'm not always calm ;p

Come to think of it, it's insanely simple.
It's not hard to do and it takes very little time or effort.

@bwDraco it sounds like something that would require extremely careful movement

keeping calm is not the problem

@JourneymanGeek This is nothing more than a cop-out.

That's just masking the underlying issue of impulse control and calmness.

@bwDraco this is why I'm a calmer person ;)

kumar_vHow to enable confirmation alert box option before closing opened tab in chrome browser? Need to change setting? I couldn't find any such options in setting window.

will this do?

Bob
@Insane Other option, can you move your button?

@tereško read da question c:
@Bob it might, but i'd prefer something that nips it in the bud.
@Bob it might help other devs who dont have 10 other extentions to be able to put infront of it
@Bob and also if you need to test your extension in an environment with no other extensions which makes some sense, then that wouldn't work

who said that you development environment has to be the same as the testing environment?
if that were true, we all would be writing code in notepad

@tereško i am writing it in notepad(++) but i'm just saying "install some extensions then move them behind your extension" is a sloppy workaround. has nothing to do with dev/testing environments

7:07 AM
that's actually sad
seriously man, use sublime 3 or brackets or atom
:P

whats wrong with ++
I've used subline on my macbook air when I'm not in Windows boot
and it's not too bad
but why > np++ :P

well, first of all the UI is better, it not generating shitload of foo~ files, all of those editors have superior set of extensions

this seems rediculously common

I bet if an answer gets posted that works on my question it'll eventually get like 20k view
@tereško ill seriously consider it tbh, thanks
@tereško a friend of mine was still using wingrep and when i showed him astrogrep he like died inside. so im more open to switching software

if your PC has the resources, ho with Atom as the option .. it's a bit more versatile (the resources would be because it runs on top of node.js ... you also might find electron.atom.io interesting)

7:14 AM
sublime is really nice
I use it as a wordprocessor tho ;p

yeah I do have the power
i just cleaned up my chrome tabs over 4 windows for the first time in like a week
was about ~120 tabs
@tereško is that an online environment?

nope
it's a dekstop app, made using JS .. courtesy of Github (they made the initial development and that 's where the Electron platform comes from too)

will add to to-do-do-list

@Bob I actually have installed it (on Arch). IT looks interesting but it's currently as raw as Atom was when I first found it

This is a popular question with many similar or overlapping questions. Browsing the various linked and related questions I noticed the information on this subject is limited and fragmented. Most answers are simple software recommendations and do not touch upon any underlying issues. This article is meant to help fellow superusers appreciate the assumptions we take for granted and serve as a springboard for those that need to dig deeper to solve their problem.

Most people who are looking to place an ISO on a USB drive want to put any ISO on a USB drive and make the drive bootable (also known as making a live USB or installer USB from a binary image file). Examples include: …

Hello everyone. So, I've read reviews about Xonar DX needing a "floppy cable" for extra power. What is that about, and is it a problem for me?

Really?
A floppy cable?
Quite a few modular PSUs come with em.
I hacked mine up to power my backlights
Well some PSUs still have floppy cables too
Basically you need one of those little plugs
Quick google suggests it has one.
WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A FLOPPY CABLE AS A PREREQUISITE AND NOT SHIP AN ADAPTOR?

12:29 PM
@JourneymanGeek Ok. So not a show stopper, then? I've just seen it in a couple of reviews, not in the specs. I guess I should check the specs. The reviews said it needs it for extra power. Does that sound right?

@FaheemMitha "show stopper" no
Something that might be an annoyance? Oh heck yes

@JourneymanGeek Annoyance how? Just get the cable and stick it in, right? Or am I missing some potential problem with that?

@FaheemMitha you need to get the cable
or find one ;p
and they arn't used much at all these days

@JourneymanGeek Let me check Amazon India.

some PSUs might already have em

12:31 PM
What is a Molex connector?
Something standard?

molex is an oldschool HDD connector
less common now

But most PSUs have a few since people power uncommon stuff off it
yup

@JourneymanGeek I see. Hmm.

(I have a molex cable to power my bias lighting ;p)
er
Its very useful to know what a molex, sata and floppy connector are
;p

@qasdfdsaq Is it possible to forget one's own native language?!?!

@ThatBrazilianGuy sure

O_o
I guess if it's a 5yo kid who moves to another country
But I think a grown up person who "just don't practice it" and then forgets... Sounds strange to me.

Language attrition is the process of decay that a language experiences for lack of use. Attrition may take place at the level of an individual speaker who gradually forgets a language that they used to speak, or at the level of the speech community that gradually shifts to another language and change aspects of their original language in that process. Individual speakers whose competency in a language has been affected by attrition may be called semi-speakers, and languages with high rates of semi-speakers have been shown to undergo similar types of language change such as loss of grammatical and...

@ThatBrazilianGuy My cousins lived in UK for the first decade or so of their lives
They could understand tamil but not speak it
Kinda minimalist but I like it ;p

> It's rare to totally lose command of a first language, she says. Instead people have "language attrition" - trouble recalling certain words or they use odd grammar structures. Age is a factor. Once past puberty, Dr Schmid says, your first language is stable and the effects of attrition can reverse themselves if you are re-immersed. But children as old as 10 don't necessarily retain the language they were born into
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me
> Sgt Bowe Bergdahl spoke English for 23 years until he was captured by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan five years ago. But since his release, he has trouble speaking it
That makes zero sense to me.
Unless it's caused, in this case, by all the trauma of being captured

12:54 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy captured by Taliban fighters == trauma for most people I would think.
