o_O

Bob
wait, maybe not
something weird is happening...
???
half the builds work, half don't
I didn't change anything!

is skiing an innuendo or something? guys in the office were laughing at me when i said i haven't been skiing

Bob
how2program

right....
turns out it is rude

Why o0

1:13 PM
look at urban dictionary

@Burgi Oh. That's weird :) Never heard that before.

yeah

erm, I've not heard of this term and I won't be looking it up

i hadn't heard of it before either
> British Santa worker killed in Lapland

by.... raging reindeer?

1:18 PM
@djsmiley2k Her boyfriend stabbed her ...

:(
yeah just saw

the headline was misleading
i do like the police branded snowmobiles

Bob
grrrrrr
@allquixotic it works on 3.0.x (API 20) but crashes ~75% of the time on 3.1 (API 21)
I'm beginning to wonder if the beta version is just unstable

1:33 PM
@Burgi everything is an innuendo if you're repressed enough

Bob
@allquixotic time for me to drop it for the night too :P
oh, I tested API 20 x64 but API 21 x86, dunno if that might've had an effect
or if it was stack corruption only happening on x86
might be time to abandon the C# one :\
@allquixotic ok, API 21 x86 seems to work
not sure if it's a difference in calling convention, pure luck (and disguised stack corruption on x64), or something more benign
I think I did everything I needed to
required functions implemented. The others are commented out for now.
If you could test by reloading the plugin a couple dozen times, and/or reopen TS3, that might help? idk. it crashed more often than not for me on x86
apart from that? all yours :P I'll look more tomorrow evening. or during the day if you're here, but I won't have TS3 to test daytime
floof
@JourneymanGeek feel like getting back to bl sometime?

@Bob presumably next week

Bob
I wonder how much is left in the atlas mission. it's a massive slog without fast travel :/

It is
I haven't really gamed much past few weeks
tried doom, fell off things about a dozen times and died .... without enemies around

Bob
1:49 PM
we spend half our time just getting there :P

;p
That's true

Bob
there's something about movement in doom...

Just not feeling it
I'm not hell on wheels, death incarnate, seeing everything right before I shoot it in the face ;p

i have built a house in NMS

Bob
"it lacks mojo"

1:49 PM
I lack mojo ;p

Bob
hmm
I should try doom sometime
my movement is usually pretty terrible :P

Its pretty paint by numbers, oldschool FPS

i have the new doom

Combat is pretty much shoot shoot shoot move.

not played it yet

1:51 PM
@Burgi yeah, that's what I was playing

Bob
don't really like horror type games

Its not really horror

i'm still working my way through Duke Nukem

they don't even do the whole sudden enemies appearing from behind thing

@JourneymanGeek that got annoying in doom3

Bob
1:52 PM
@JourneymanGeek gory, no?

granted, on full mojo, I occationally randomly turned around and shot them in the face just as they were coming in
@Bob eh, a bit

Bob
ironically that describes most games in the genres I generally like

oh look a dark corridor with health at the end... i bet something spawns behind me...

Bob
but I don't like that aspect of them :/
hmm. s/like/play/

lol
You admire the scenery
I... shoot things

Bob
1:53 PM
I don't even know what genre I really like anymore
@JourneymanGeek shooting things got boring somewhere in the fifth year of playing cs

i liked antichamber and talos principle
FPS puzzlers

Bob
idk, I tend to lose interest easily

@Bob most of the time when I play an FPS, I want something mindless

Bob
multiplayer being the exception :P

unless there's a storyline

Bob
1:55 PM
but then I like stories (ironic, yea), so co-op it is :P

bioshock was good.

Bob
still wish visual novels were more popular/common in English

i liked infinite but i hear a lot of people hated it

Bob
and that there was a good source for them
now that's something mindless to enjoy :P

1:56 PM
infinite was kinda a bioshock game in name only in many ways, until the DLC
there was no real connection with the earlier stories

@WHATEVERDave noon

the twist in infinite was nowhere near as mind blowing as the twist in the original bioshock

Bob
some rpg/roguelike/dungeoncrawler crosses are nice too

>: - (((((((

@JourneymanGeek you go to rapture...

1:57 PM
@Burgi cause of the multiverse thing
and the ending was... kinda odd

true
yeah i felt let down by it

Bob
"odd"
some of the best looking games just have to involve zombies
dammit

the ending to antichamber was "odd"

Bob
Skyrim... zombies
mass effect... zombies

left4dead... zombiees

Bob
2:00 PM
lol

call of duty ... zombie mode
;D

Bob
I wonder where the more lighthearted games went
where it's not a literal doomsday scenario

SPAZ was good and light hearted

Bob
not heard of that one :/

i miss hello kitty island adventure :(

Bob
"space pirates and zombies"... zombies?

its light hearted!

Bob
hmm, rts
might have to try it

i clocked nearly 200 hours on it

Bob
I'll probably forget by morning :P
oh yea wishlist button

2:04 PM
add it to your wishlist

Bob
...it's in my library
when did that happen

gnomes?
I need to play this at some point
I own it but haven't quite fired it up yet
The Flame in the Flood is a roguelike survival video game developed by The Molasses Flood. The game was developed for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Xbox One. A PlayStation 4 version is planned for January 2017. == Gameplay == The only companion the player has is a dog called Aesop, who can sense danger and fetch supplies. The player must pay attention to Scout's needs such as her energy, thirst, hunger, and warmth, and not paying attention to them can result in death. Once the player dies, the death cannot be undone as The Flame in the Flood is a permadeath game. There is a crafting system allowing...

Why do so many geeks insist on playing roguelikes?
in The Bridge, May 22 '14 at 4:45, by DragonLord
What's with the resurgence in high-difficulty gaming these days? The Souls franchise has become so popular, and I keep seeing new roguelikes coming out lately. What's going on?
The fad seems to be starting to die down, though.

It feels more gratifiying if you beat a hardcore game (such as a roguelike).

@bwDraco flame in the flood has a dog ;p

Far cry
I want
Meaow

> Once the player dies, the death cannot be undone as The Flame in the Flood is a permadeath game
Wait, permadeath as in, you buy the game, play it, die once, can't play it ever again?

yup
naw
you start from the beginning
but anything on your dog survuves

@JourneymanGeek Humm.... Isn't that the very concept of death in videogames?

as opposed to the last checkpoint

@ThatBrazilianGuy not all games

2:46 PM
or save game

no saves
no 'lives'
no nuffin

@JourneymanGeek There is no save game option?

or simply coming back to life with a small penalty
@DavidPostill no

i.e. rogue alikes
nethack, etc

and no backtracking

2:47 PM
@bwDraco it's the opposite of 'let hte computer do it for you' nintendoism
which I can't stand

@djsmiley2k So why they don't say "no checkpoints, savegames or lives"?

I'd rather quit a game I can't beat, than have the option of clicking a button and the computer does it for me
because people who want perma-death know it's called that

When I read "permadeath", I think of this. This is proper permadeath.

@djsmiley2k Nethack doesn't have that limitation.

saving in charas

@DavidPostill which one?
@DavidPostill you die in nethack.... you die
you might leave a ghost and a grave

no save/restore

or become a vampire
Offically you can't save, iirc

"Save scumming

Save scumming is the practice of copying a NetHack save file from the NetHack playground, so that if the character dies or suffers a calamity, the game can be restored by copying the file back into the playground. This directly bypasses a major design decision of the game - to disallow saving-and-restoring. "

@ThatBrazilianGuy tldr, permadeath.

2:48 PM
yeah, that's akin to cheating tho
you could mod souls games too @DavidPostill

Standard nethack cheat :)

This directly bypasses a major design decision of the game - to disallow saving-and-restoring. "

@JourneymanGeek If "permadeath" is what you described, then what is this: kongregate.com/games/raitendo/you-only-live-once

is that a game you can actually only play once?
/me is at work and can't check

@djsmiley2k apparently

2:50 PM
it's an amusing idea
@ThatBrazilianGuy 'Life' ? :D

@JourneymanGeek poor guy. (In that link you sent)

@timotree I'm in between "waste of a good processor", "poor guy" and nelson "HA HA" (or maybe a muttly snigger)

I am chairman Meaow. Meaowmaster Extraordinaire.

@djsmiley2k You can play as many times you want. Until you die, that is. Scratch that, I closed the window mid-game and now it loads a game over animation of a news report of the character death and the importance of contactiong the police instead of going vigilante.

Is being in the mainstream something to be ashamed of?

2:57 PM
@bwDraco only if you are a hipster

@bwDraco Yes. It means you are a sheep boring :)

I'm now graduating from college magna cum laude. Is there a convincing reason I should hold my gaming skills to the same exacting standards I hold my academics to?
Two years ago.
Jun 14 at 15:33, by bwDraco
Grades are in. Final graduate GPA is 3.97.
Yes, I take my work seriously, but should this extend to gaming?

@bwDraco 3.97 out of what?

4.00

3:00 PM
oh nice

9 A, 1 A-.
But that's besides the point.

Life is too short to be brilliant at everything you would like do. You have to pick and choose where to concentrate your efforts.

#profound
@bwDraco you get 10/10 for overthinking and worrying

@Burgi Amen, stop being me 10 yrs ago
isn't worth the stress 99% of the time

Consider any world class sports person. They spend every day practicing their chosen sport. No time to learn any other skill to the same level.

3:07 PM
@bwDraco IMHO you should take things less seriously sometimes.

Of course, "Number of times I've gotten to make a decision twice to know for sure how it would have turned out" is still at 0.

@djsmiley2k KITTEH
@allquixotic ffdshow?

3:36 PM
Thanks for the encouragement :)

3:53 PM
@DavidPostill it means you are -a sheep boring- most likely to believe in herd immunity and probability, by following the crowd you ensure that outliers are taken out first.
hmmmm
how does the dash through work -ornotwork-

@djsmiley2k You need 3 dashes --- either side with no space after the first set or before the second set.

strike

@djsmiley2k Are you implying that is a good thing?
The world desperately needs people to not follow the latest fashions and trends. Otherwise there would be no fashions and trends. Who do you think creates them? Not the sheep.

TrendSetter Sheep!

4:10 PM
heh
@DavidPostill depends on the situation
evolution is driven by outliers, good thing
I think a wise man may of once said 'Choose your battles'
@Annaduh help, i'm trying to mentally work out what a switch attached to a modem would transmit over the modem, and locally
just for a bit of fun mental pokery

@djsmiley2k Errr
What kind of modem?

4:25 PM
a 56K

I'm not sure how you'd attach that since a 56K modem has no ethernet capabilities

~:D
well, specifically a Virgin Media Superhub 2
DOCSIS3
I'm waiting for the 'that's not actually a modem'

Well if it's in "modem mode" aka pseudobridge, basically the same as it'd transmit over any other port...

anything with known mac on the switch goes to right place, else it hits broadcast and the modem will just push it out too?

Well VM's DOCSIS configuration only allows one client MAC at the CPE and probably enforces DHCP snooping too
So it'll drop anything that isn't ... welll... what a router would say

4:29 PM
yeah that's what I expected
but if it was a generic router, on a generic isp
it would at least 'see' some traffic from the switch?

It'll see mostly generic broadcast messages
"Hi, who's there?" "Is XYZ on this port?" + as you say, data for any MAC that the switch doesn't know the location of just gets blasted out on all ports

@TomWijsman Read your response on SU for viewing spam in a VM. Are there other ways to do this. I want to deliberately view spam and search for it's endings in the links or images. But ofcourse in a safe way. I'm from BE as well, maybe we could talk on this further.

2 hours later…
6:23 PM
cool, so no actual 'traffic' as such

7:20 PM
@djsmiley2k your child looks remarkably like a kitten
was there some sort of mixup?

nice...

A: Roccat Kone XTD mouse may spontaneously disconnect when devices attached to the computer are manipulated

bwDracoI've determined that the problem is not my mouse, but my laptop. I've been having ongoing issues with USB 3.0 storage devices disconnecting while transferring data. Longer cables are more susceptible to this issue, while shorter cables are better behaved. Wrapping a cable in aluminum foil, funni...

...and there you have it on the USB 3.0 EMI issue.
It's the same issue that affects my mouse.

Is this a laptop or desktop?>

This is a laptop. Same issue we discussed yesterday.
yesterday, by bwDraco
yesterday, by bwDraco
For some reason, my laptop's USB 3.0 ports tend to drop connections during large, high-speed transfers. Is there an explanation for this? This is not specific to the device: it happens with any USB 3.0 device capable of moving more than 100 MB/s.
Start from there.

How can I create a discussion before we've posted a bunch of comments?
Like if I know it's gonna be a long conversation.

If the discussion is especially long and needs to be easily referenced, you may want to consider creating a new room and inviting others to it. Link to the room here so we can find it easily.
It only takes 100 reputation on any parent site to create a chat room.

I want an immmortal pet
In fact, I'd be happy with just a pet.
Dafuq, I'm getting HTTP 400 on superuser.com, but just on Chrome!

magic

@ThatBrazilianGuy Working fine here. Try deleting your chrome cache and cookies.

There was a cookie called hero containing what looked like garbage.
Upon deleting just this cookie, it worked again.

@ThatBrazilianGuy I was right again :)

I wonder what this hero was supposed to do. And if this is a hero, I don't want no villain thankyouverymuch ;p
@DavidPostill Of course you were right! You concluded the same as me, and as I can't ever be wrong, therefore...

10:16 PM
Huh, I also have a hero cookie, but it contains something human-readable

I have self-destructing cookies, so I can't check mine.

@BenN I knew I shouldn't have left that block of kryptonite near my computer...

I don't have a hero cookie :/

@DavidPostill curse you and your facts ;)
you made a good point on that dupe

@Burgi I was right again :)

When it comes to #SSD performance and reliability, nobody beats @samsung. Don't settle for second best. #SamsungSSD

Bob
*cough* Intel *cough*

They were not what they once were.
The SSD 600p series proved to be very disappointing, not performing much better than SATA SSDs, especially with IMFT's much worse than expected 3D NAND.
Who remembers the X25-M?
Not to mention that Intel has not released an update to their old SSD 750, which is little more than an enterprise SSD mildly tuned for consumer workloads.

11:12 PM
@bwDraco Hey it looks like the Samsung sales team took over your twitter account!
2

lol
These were my own words.

did samsung pay you?

No, just a satisfied customer.

!! Caaaaat

11:19 PM
All the reviews I've read point to Samsung beating everyone else.
They are that good.
They were two years ahead of IMFT et al. on 3D NAND and had none of the issues IMFT's having.

I wish that was me

It's ironic that Intel, who has always had the best fabs for its processors, has so much trouble keeping up when it comes to NAND.

lol

I don't know if it's "offensive" either though. (@DavidPostill)

> it's resemblance to something other than a heart
I wonder what could it be...!

11:31 PM
Personally I don't find it offensive :) But I can see why some people might.
@ThatBrazilianGuy lol I suspect you see a lot of them on the beach in Rio :)

@DavidPostill I can see why some people might see it as innapropriate. It is, specially considering the multitude of ages and cultures in a huge site like this.

@ThatBrazilianGuy I don't think it's appropriate. I just don't find it offensive or deragatory.

But offended? Really? Then they'd feel outraged on a beach...
@DavidPostill Exactly. Well, usually with a biiiit more covering, but you get the idea

@ThatBrazilianGuy More covering? The tan lines give it away :)
Reading the question again it appears that the OP is asking about a moderator message on some site not in the SE network ...

@DavidPostill I don't see it as offensive; I see it as the opposite of that

Is it bad to have 18 warnings on my CSS linter?
> CSSLintWarningDon't use IDs in selectors.at line 16 col 2

CSSLintWarningUse of !importantat line 241 col 3
CSSLintWarningUse of !importantat line 250 col 5
CSSLintWarningDon't use IDs in selectors.at line 272 col 1

@ThatBrazilianGuy shouldn't the use of !importantat be an error rather than a warning?

I know I suck for using !important, but is it equally as bad to use IDs in selectors?

@allquixotic Well I feel the same about a lot of images but I wouldn't use them as my avatar :)

@allquixotic IIRC !important won't pass the W3C validator, but it won't cause major issues (other than a structural mess), I think. I'm using it in 4 or 5 places because it's a WP child theme and I needed some parameters to take precedence in a few places.

@DavidPostill but why not? it couldn't possibly be that you're trying to build a stronger resume through Stack Exchange, and would rather potential employers see who you really are instead of a subset of an attractive woman's body? ;)
@ThatBrazilianGuy you missed my joke
your pastie shows "importantat"
and I was like, "well that's definitely not valid"

11:43 PM
@allquixotic aaaaah
@allquixotic At least I wasn't using it, I was CSSLintWarningUsing it.
@allquixotic Hey! If we can have talented house pets and wild animals (and extinct ones), why not body parts? Don't be close-minded!
This should be a welcoming community for every one, even if said ones are fractions!

@ThatBrazilianGuy why are you still using vanilla CSS?
