00:00 - 12:0012:00 - 00:00

12:03 AM
@DavidPostill this happens to me a lot, ;p

I need to figure out how to make my computer case smaller and still fit full size board in it, with space to work around it. Looking at it, the mass of extra spaces is the ~10 hard drive bays on the front? not the height. The height of the case is 20inches

they used her devices speakers as microphones?

within getting a smaller case, it also has to have a configuration that makes it fairly easy to exhaust the heat out, while it sits sideways in an air ride foam, that can get it to survive the bumps of the road.

12:26 AM
why many mid tower cases have multiple 5" bays still? need like 1 for ya DVD or something, but people havent used 5.25 hard drives for some time now ?

@DavidPostill , who is that lady? Why does she type like she has some computer knowledge "now I need to trace these firewalls using crl" even though 80% of the time the stuff she types is uneducated. are you saying it's some troll?

12:39 AM
@Psycogeek HAF XB Evo's are like that
4 bays + PSU stacked on top of the motherboard
and dual levels

ugh....
sometimes i hate flyaway races
i've got to be up at 7am to watch the malayasian GP
7am!
on a freaking sunday!

Lol
Damn furriners and their timezones. They should follow GMT like god and the Queen intended

75% of the f1 audience is in europe (for historical reasons)

@JourneymanGeek ahh, probably just what i need. Is this one of those "square" cases where the motherboard already sits flat? (and so therin the heavy heat sink will be verticle)

american races are in the early evenng which is good
its just the daytime eastern races that are right bastards
notable exceptions: singapore, abu dhabi, baharain
because they happen at night
which is early afternoon in europe....

1:01 AM
ahh crap the HAF Xb wont fit my cooler in it, unless ?? it is surely higher than spec.
if they had the motherboard on the bottom, and the bays riding over the motherboard somewhere instead, then that style would be good.

1:28 AM
@Psycogeek yes.
@Psycogeek you'll need to check but it's supposed to be roomy.
It's a mesh case. In theory you could just cut a hole... Hotrod style :p

hmmm, that was the unless
mod the top , assuming that is possible.
my tower heat sinks, even the one that half of it lays down are 160mm
not sure how many more times i can bend (the heat pipes) to change it again.

hey guys wanna know what I can't parse? how does someone see stuff farther away or see more. I mean what about creatures that can see 360 degrees.

how can a human understand and compare their 2d roughly 180 degree view to a 360 degree view hmm I guess I can roughly synthesize it by putting my hands on the side of my face and slowly blocking eyesight. they just see that. how do we render 360 degree cameras on a 2d canvas we can't without it being imperfect.

interesting
I used to think to myself, why can this person see further than me, that means their image takes up more "space", they have a wider image in their brain, because you can't really measure the size of the image in your brain I guess
failed to parse 360 degree view, BUFFER_DOES_NOT_EXIST

1:44 AM
lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-tu300 here is one that only has a 5.25 Slim? and just barely enough space for (something like) 2x helium drives and a SSD. I always wanted a lian-li because the aluminum could potentially move more heat out via the case.
so what is a slim? would that require some crappy laptop dvd? would they come in a blu-ray burner too ?
it also has filters. It is important to me to have some capability , however it is done, to filter the air, to reduce internal cleaning cycles.

2:02 AM
isn't it crazy how smart the what word am I looking for, the biological thing of biology and living things that makes living things transform over long periods of time for survival.

Then if you think about it, what if that biological thing is in itself alive and it spawned all these different animals plants mammals etc (okay you got me on animals and mammals) in order for this huge biological thing system to survive.

for example, this fish is not intelligent enough to know that eyes are located on the face and so it needs fake eyes to lure off prey!

2:37 AM
oh that was wrong, the HAF case is not limited to the height for tower coolers.
I was looking at the lian version of the same square box thing, youtu.be/D-RzQMovdcI?t=143 in this pic with the guy as a referance size , they are huge.
one of my (brilliant ;-) ideas is that i can place the computer under the seats in a trailer, as they leave the space under the seats for storage. a Sideways laying mid-tower looks like it would fit there. Being sideways would take the terrible pressures off the GPU board and CPU heatsink, which have always been horizontal in normal cases.

@Psycogeek the HAF case was my second choice for my current build. No evo back then tho

the square cases are already sideways (so to speak) and always give way better access to working on things. but the top bottom layering that is usual for them, means they are not really short either. a sideways laying normal computer would be shorter than the cube style.
the lian being aluminum weigh in literally 1/2 the weight, which could be important.
my usual computer ends up weighing in SOO much ,mostly because of all the drive bricks, which is the first thing i was thinking of reducing.
I have never thought of my computer case as being heavy when first purchaced, but after filling it up with all the goodies, it is like Uggg WTF , its just a computer, not a weight lifting challenge.

3:13 AM
U+1F926 FACE PALM 🤦
That's the problem with full towers. Fully assembled, they often weigh close to 100 lb (60-80 lb is typical).

Bob
@JourneymanGeek did you see the allo group chat? :P

@bwDraco eh, Its entirely plausible dogcat's got spotty internet access or left after the whole nickname drama.
Its probably a good idea to leave them alone in your case unless they talk to you directly

Ah, well.
I actually posted that on behalf of @CausingUnderflowsEverywhere.

but but. You know they have you blocked.

4:09 AM
It's no big deal.
I just feel like every message I post is under scrutiny...

Nope
(west coast high way, on the way to the dog park)

I was never properly taught to be self-sufficient, nor was I given any major responsibilities such as managing a large pet (cat, dog, etc.). My parents never had much confidence that I could be self-reliant, which is why I've always been less mature than I should be. I'm in a much worse position than a lot of young adults.

there are quite a few single layer HTPC type of cases , designed to sit on thier side, that will still handle a full ATX board. But many of them have 80mm fans. I would rather gouge my ears out , than go back to 80mm fans :-) amazon.com/Silverstone-LC13B-E-USB3-0-Aluminum-Center-USB3-0/dp/…

@bwDraco Meh, self-awareness is self awareness.

I realize the world is full of hazards and dangers and that my parents want to protect me from the "dangerous" outside world, but the fact of the matter is that risk cannot be completely eliminated and that I do need to be exposed to some risk to properly mature.

4:16 AM
I'm probably happier cause I don't actually care what other people think about me.
I care about what I think about other people.

I'm finally learning to not worry about trying to impress others, as my troubled upbringing has led me to.
I care about doing my best, and that's what counts.
It's getting late here.

it is really hard to shop for this computer case online. mini ITX cases look about the same size in the pictures. it takes reading 30 comments to discover what i will see in 2 seconds if seeing it for real in the store. I think i better go to the real store at least first.

lol
that's always a good idea

If you there isn't a physical sample for you to look at, the best way to get a sense of the dimensions is to actually look them up and use a tape measure to visualize it.

and its entirely plausible you might find something less common or low cost you can hack to your needs
tbh I build around my cases much of the time so I fit my parts to the case not the other way around

4:19 AM
@bwDraco that was me until I took some part of control of my life

funny most of my cases only cost about $39, but only because nobody else understands my designs :-)

I fall, I skin my knee. I complain. I get up and walk again. I don't wrap my knee up in bubble wrap ;)

@JourneymanGeek although i am sure there is a Kickstarter doing just that :-)

I do self analyse all the time but...
@Psycogeek heh. Actually debated getting lightweight knee guards ;p

lol

5:08 AM
from : amazon.com/dp/B01C77MTZ2/… pretty dang good price too.

@Psycogeek someone tried to mount that on a dog. It kept getting knocked off, or came loose and was filming the bottom side of the dog...

just need 2 of those and i can get weddings filmed for people for 1/2 price , just have the bride wear bacon.

5:35 AM
Which software would you guys recommend
to do a reverse search on my own photos?
I have a pic, and I want to find pics that are 90%+ similar to it.

you want to find these locally or on the web?

locally

i have Clonespy and DupeDetector , one of them does a good fuzzy find of dupes.

they are not 100% similar
more like 95%

that is the fuzzy part. basically they size them down, compare the colors and pixels and based on the similarity you set, it will only find the same pic, or many pics that are very similar. everytime it takes some human effort to analise what to toss.

5:46 AM
I'm trying clonespy right now

lol both of those programs existed before 2006. so my versions are crapware free, were free, and well it works, but not easy to figure at first

Yeah I see clonespy is not easy to use
And I don't think they can do what I want
they say "search for duplicates" and not " search for similar images"
they are not a duplicate

yea exact clones only, dupedetector has the similarity alogrythms.
dupe detector (the one i have) is a 2 stage process, analise the file group, then process the analised database.

no need to get fancy
I just want to find similar images
and I have no ideia of what you said
dupedectetor just hangs when I select to include all subfolders rs

yea you have to build first (yawn). try it with a smaller subset at first.

5:57 AM
I have more than 4k photos
this will take a long time....and I have no cigarettes
i'm building it...whatever that means

to compare Every friggen pic, with every friggen pic , it makes a database first. otherwise it would have to compare 16 million times

I have no idea what you saying
lol

Best to try it with a smaller set at first, so you get the idea. but i think you can adjust similarity after , keeping the (yawn) database that it has aquired.

And that's another program that annoys me because it will take ages to do something
and they are not even maxing my CPU HD and ram

no it is archaic, not multithreaded.

6:03 AM
sadly...only 400 of 4500 yet

never bothered me much, when I can do multitasking. watch a movie, sync the backups, compare the dupes, play a video game. and chat to you :-)

you are a regular here right ?

i am

so you are smart

lol, i have skills in some areas.

6:07 AM
I always used another software to do this
it's called awesome duplicate photo finder
much faster
and can search for 100% similar images or less

probably a better one? but not nessisarily fully free?

it's fully free
but I can only search for 100% similar or not. Can't set like to 70%+ more similar
so that would just give me millions of results I would have to look every one

70% would end up with thousands of dupes in my porn :-) a setting like 95% might be more like it

nn

7:13 AM
erf
I got my new smartwatch
Can't work out if the app for it I'm looking at is the real deal

Bob
@JourneymanGeek which?

@Bob ticwatch2
ok this feels so... terribad
It says the version on google play is incompatible, then grabs a new version from a google drive account..

Bob
@JourneymanGeek o.O
20 hour battery life... eww
the grammar on the kickstarter page too O_O
@JourneymanGeek tbh I'm seeing a few red flags here :\
How's the physical watch?
Does it do what it says on the tin? :P

@Bob build quality feels ok
currently trying to pair it
Which is failing
pretty sure the companion app is dodgy

Bob
7:28 AM
@JourneymanGeek looks nicer than the (standard) pebble :P
though I think I'd take a time round over this

oh
it downloads the app from the qr code

Bob
@JourneymanGeek sounds like those weird $50 off-brand smartwatches
that the local supermarket stocked for a while o.O

lol
with my kickstarter luck...

it says on the web they have thier own dedicated store?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek This was one; their website seems to have gone down :P iwantiot.com/shop/ok-viper-phone-watch
which reminds me, I need to get a new (read: better-looking) watch sometime
original pebble performs well, buuuuuut... yea.
but not many options with a long battery life :\

7:39 AM
i like how they say it is nice and small, which would be a good description if it was a truck :-)

Dosen't feel heavy, screen looks crisp, and good contrast. I need to companion app to set it up... and that's turning into a bit of an epic

Yo people !
Long time no see !

7:57 AM
ok that's wierd
if it failed to pair... why is the time correct 0_0

just be happy you didnt buy this one kickstarter.com/projects/secretlabs/… (agent watch) 1million dollers 3 years ago, and still selling slots. . . but none delivered yet.

8:14 AM
Hi

And the qr code points at another non working version....

8:30 AM
@Bob You can get a real watch :)

8:44 AM
yup. Got it to pair manually ._.
Now there's some setup process foing on
wiped and redid. Loading screen, yay
ooh
their voice recognition is not bad

9:15 AM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere She is a mentally disturbed person with a little computer knowledge who believes everybody is out to hack hers systems using radio waves (or so it seems from her ramblings) :)
Apparently she is actually bipolar/depressive. Her writings are everywhere (all caps of course).

Bob
@JourneymanGeek probably just uses Google APIs

@DavidPostill yes i kinda got that picture too :-) but we need people like that sometimes. like the homeless guy who rants endlessly about Taxes, while it is easily brushed aside until april 15th comes along, and everyone is ranting about taxes :-)
sometimes they are right, and they are the only people actually SPEAKING OUT about it as loudly as we all should have, before we lost it .

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere If you look (pun intended) at the way a human process normal 180 degree vision we are not seeing the whole image at once. The brain is interpolating meaning onto a mental map built up from what we have seen previously. We don't interpret the whole image freshly every time. One if the triggers is movement. That's why we spot fast moving things instantly but ignore slow moving things even though we see them. You see cars move for example but not every individual moving leaf on a tree.
@bwDraco Most of them don't work for me. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, Firefox 49.0.1

Bob
9:37 AM
@Rahul2001 A smartwatch is a subset of "real watches".
I had an analogue watch. Been there. Done that. Got the medal and all.
The ability to glance at notifications is far more useful. Oh, and not miss them, seeing as I keep my phone on silent.
@DavidPostill Win7 would be why

@Bob same.
What watch do you have?

@Bob Fair enough

Bob
Firefox ships with an emoji font, but it's not quite as complete as what Win10 has, and might not be up to date in 49.

I don't have a smartwatch, they're too expensive here :/

Bob
@arda Currently? Original Pebble. Was a cheap way to try out smartwatches, and a week+ of battery life is pretty good.

9:40 AM
@Rahul2001 I bought a pebble a few years ago. It broke, I mailed them and they sent me a pebble time. Pebble is great with customer support.

Bob
It's hard to decide where I want to go from here :\

@arda LUCKY!

Bob
Android Wear has better OS integration. But there aren't any with consistent >24hr battery life, last I checked.

@Bob try time. It really is amazing.

Bob
Pebble (Time|Steel) are bulky and don't look too great, IMO. But better than original :P
Pebble Time Round looks really good, but battery life suffers. And of course it's still Pebble OS.

9:41 AM

Bob
@arda Thought about it. But at this point wouldn't it be better to go Time 2 or Time Steel?
@arda They never even replied to me when mine came DoA (screen glitch) :\
Retailer swapped it out for me. But Pebble CS didn't even respond :\

@Bob they replied to me in same day
and sent me a new pebble
that also had issues on day 1 and they sent me a time

Bob
Oh wait, they responded 2 days after I went to the retailer. Total 3 days after original message.
Or was it 4?
Bleh.

@Bob yeah, I'd go with time 2, but I'm not going to upgrade now as time is doing what I need it for, and it is still getting updates.
plus I'm a student and have no stable income

Bob
@arda Pebble was rather notorious for the screen glitch iirc
@arda Thing is, my current one works for me. Hard to justify an upgrade while it keeps working :P

9:44 AM
second one's screen was fine, but it had the waterproofing broken

Bob
o.O

and it got water in it while I was washing my hands. The screen died, but I fixed it after they sent me a time. The waterproofing is still broken though

@Bob yanno the running joke about my accent and voice recognition right?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ...yea?
@arda o.O

Yeah, I've tried google voice rec and its terrible for me.

Bob
9:46 AM
@JourneymanGeek are you talking generic rec or voice commands?
commands tend ot work better cause there's a smaller set of possible matches

Whatever these guys use can understand "what is the speed of an unladen swallow" and figures out "what is the way to vivo city" as what is the way to rivet city

@Bob same :) I use my pebble for a few stuff, like generating 2fa keys and looking at time / checking notifications / timer etc. Time 2 is amazing but I can't justify the upgrade as I'm happy with this and the only interesting feature of that is the bigger screen.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek nice

I'm one of the peoples who use a phone until it is totally broken

lol
"It works perfectly" is one of the things keeping me from upgrading my desktop

9:48 AM
my last phone lasted 3 years. It had the screen broken on the last 1.5 years. It had buggy software in last 2 years. I still used it. What made me switch was the charge socket breaking.
I could probably fix it but meh, I'm happy with my new phone and I don't want to deal with aliexpress and turkish postal service again.
Stuff I buy have a %25 chance of being fake and %25 chance of getting lost while PTT drags it around the country (this happened. A lot of stuff I ordered arrived in 2-3 months as it was lost).

Bob
@JourneymanGeek mine too :P
still Sandy Bridge
it doesn't work perfectly, but enough that I cbd upgrading
the time and effort, more than the money
I could go out and buy a Skylake CPU & mobo but then I'd want ot upgrade the case and the PSU and figure out what to do with the old one and aohjfgiorshgoierwahvehrgoer

I haven't worn a watch since I bought my first phone. I thought why do I need a watch when my phone has the time on it and I carry it everywhere anyway? :)

Bob
@DavidPostill time at a glance
easier than pulling my phone out of my pocket, anyway

Firefox URL auto-completion in no good

Bob
that was before the smartwatch. Now? notifications at a glance

10:01 AM
@arda I am one of those people who spent so much gol dang time configuring and setting up some piece of tech gear, the last thing i want to do is start all back at zero again. especially when some of the things i have set-up dont even exist on the new stuff, and the new stuff doesnt replace it either.

@Bob lol. Most of the time I don't even need to know the time. My internal clock is pretty good :)

Bob
@Rahul2001 works for me
@DavidPostill lucky you, then :P
if only I could get everyone else to sync up with my internal clock

@Psycogeek I didn't root my phone for 9 months because I didn't want to set it up again.

my phone will talk the time, so i dont have to pull it out of my pocket.

@Bob lol

10:03 AM
I haven't rooted my phone a/ because I don't' need to and b/ if it went wrong I'd have no internet connection ...

I wear a watch because it is classy :P

@Rahul2001 but what about the loss of wrist hair?

But I haven't worn mine for two months... I don't know why...

I rooted my phone last week. I don't regret it.

@Psycogeek Um, that doesn't happen to me
@arda Which phone do you have?

10:05 AM
The storage space is very low and I could install like 10 vital app total and it'd use all free space. I rooted it and removed the shovelware in it. I have like 30 apps installed and some games rn. Also adaway and stuff are pretty neat.
@Rahul2001 xperia m4

Ah
Sony phones aren't very popular here
Poor service, etc

hahahahah service
warranty service is a joke in turkey

Although Viao Laptops were very famous a few years ago

Your note 7 exploded? That's user issue!!!!! You'll pay 99999 for us to fixxx

And Sony TVs are extremely popular here
@arda Same here :(

10:08 AM
But meh apparently this phone has a bendgate-like issue too and sony turkey also considers that user issue.

I buy phones that do the job well, not phones which are thinner than a pencil and last for three hours

Sony always had bad/difficult service but they often made products that did not ever require service. Then they joined the "let's make it in china" group, and now i am not sure i should buy any sony ever.

I'm very happy with Motorola

basically it can bend (but with much greater force than it is needed for iphone 6 plus), popping up a little part of the case, destroying waterproof

@arda That's sad

10:09 AM
Meh, it mostly applies to people carrying it in back pocket
I don't.

Neither do I
(a) Pickpockets (b) I don't fancy breaking it

The warranty issue in turkey is not limited to sony in turkey, but also includes nokia, samsung, motorola and pretty much everything you can name (except apple, because they don't outsource it. But meh, not going to pay 1000usd on a phone.)

@arda Nokia? Still a thing there?

I was speaking of old experiences

ah
Nokia used to be awesome
HTC used to be awesome
Samsung used to be was never awesome

10:13 AM
samsung was never awesome
at least on non-tv and non-ssd devices

Yeah, it wasn't :P

They just fill their devices with shovelware and overprice it. And steal the design

I just don't like the way they've filled the Indian market with 250+ different smartphones

git clone s7
mvdir s7 s8
git push s8

lol
Pretty sure they don't use git

10:15 AM
meh I just got lazy and copy pastad this

Man, Da Vinci's Demons is awsome

@Bob this. precisely
and notifications
(I need to test if SE pings work with that ._.)

ugh.... channel4 have spoilt the race result AGAIN

@JourneymanGeek I think it does

10:31 AM
I had notifications off
One more time? ;p

@JourneymanGeek kjdfhgkdfhg

right, lets see ;p

Uh, high school counts as "Primary or Secondary Education", right?

high school is secondary

Ah, okay, thanks

10:51 AM
ah, works, roughly as well as SE app does...
that is to say, not very well

11:31 AM
so you got the chat up on the watch yet? and mod notifications?

there's no mod notifications per say
but it mirrors anything SE app or anything else gets

one could technically get chat working on a smartwatch
but meh typing would be hell

11:46 AM
@arda hehe. There's a voice activated smartwatch martianwatches.com :)

On pebble you are stuck to tertiary text, preset messages, emojis or voice input.
@DavidPostill pebble time does have a microphone
presets and emojis are not usually useful and I usually need to answer without my phone while I'm in class, so voice input wouldn't work either. Stuck to tertiary text. I mean, all 4 would be better but whatever.

i would think the minimum is dialpad typing, overlayed on the whole of the screen, with the side buttons hopping it in and out?

If you're gonna make the whole effort of spending 10 minutes just to type a sentence on your smart watch, wouldn't it just be better if you pulled out your phone?
Hm... C# seems to be pretty okay so far

well if your cheating on a test, it could be the difference between getting a 4.0 and living your whole life as an idiot , or getting a 3.5 and being proud of what you did :-)
