12:56 AM
What remote desktop software you guys recommend? I need permanent and persistent admin access to my office machines

vpn + rdp

Locked is a hardware/firmware thing...
@Freedo do you have permission to do that?

@JourneymanGeek +1

1:12 AM
iphone locked to carrier hehe
true, @Freedo don't open a backdoor without permission from your supervisor or and IT
oh right efs = encrypted file system doesnt it
let's root the iphone! but it's called jailbreak, dang fancy apple and the fancy terms.
@GuitarShoeDave I think you do have an IMEI number ;)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-recover-imei-9-steps-t1264021

1:29 AM
@Bob my headphone parts reached me - the metal forks of the headband are bent out of shape :(
I've emailed them to ask what to do. I COULD straighten them but that would weaken the metal

SO the lock on SD cards should ingeneral lock writes. I wonder why my buddy said she can't read from it
LOL he forgot to give a usb stick
only like 1000 ways to find out I wonder which Ill use

Yes I own the company.

cool will you hire me as IT?

And I thinking creating a VPN too much hassle and difficult. So unless there is a "easy" way to do it I'm happy with just a remote desktop application
I just want to open applications and move files. Maybe sometimes restart the PC
nothing exotic

do you guys think teamviewer is safe? if you use the 12 character password

1:38 AM
@Freedo chrome remote desktop works suprisingly well then
need to open some ports pc side
iirc

I don't trust team viewer, too much scandals to me
I tried it but they seem to ask for a code to be input before connecting each time.
Like I said, i need permanent and persistent access

You can set some systems to be trusted
and have a fixed pin

I don't want to be asked a code to connect each time. Just be always connected

automatically connecting = BAD BAD IDEA. NO soup REMOTE DESKTOP FOR YOU

Why it would be ? I use KeePass so I would use a strong code/password

1:40 AM
You'd still need to key it in at some point
I can quite literally fire up an app on my phone on a train, key in a known password, and access any of my systems if they are on

Bob
@JourneymanGeek comgateway just got my second package

If that's not good enough, well, there's software recommendations stackexchange

Bob
so time to consolidate and send :P
or I would if I wasn't busy installing locks...
@JourneymanGeek microsoft rdclient (android) actually saves password by default

chrome = google = big no no
no IT counselling for you JMG!

1:43 AM
I can open KeePass databases on Iphones and Android so it's not really a problem

@Bob reached me like this

but very often there will be none in office to type the password at the PC I want to control

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ow

they also got my address wrong it seems

Bob
@Freedo ...what? you're not supposed to have anyone type in a password at the host

1:44 AM
I've emailed the company in question. Amusingly, my forks on the old one were fine and a pain to bend...

Chrome desktop remote needs that lol

@Freedo dude. I clearly clearly Clearly said you don't need to
I'm saying "you just need to key in a fixed pin if the system is trusted"
which I believe is just linked to your google account

I didn't see a option to do that with chrome desktop remote

Bob
only remote assistance would ever need anyone present at the host
anything else... makes no sense

or rdp
or..
I use nx too
and really, you should go try nomachine, actually mess around with chrome remote, and try and see if RDP works for what you need

1:46 AM
Disk 6, Type Removable, Status Online partition table MBR, size 1MB

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you know that new one whats it called that new boot sector style GUIDPT says it has MBR in it for the reverse compatibility but Im already on GUIDPT on my main drive so no reason it wouldnt see it on this but why the heck would a SD card have a MBR what the heck is going on here guys

Ok thanks guys I'll check that software later
I'm going off to eat something now...

I NEED A PROGRAM THAT WILL LET ME HEX EDIT THIS DRIVE! MWUAHAHAHA
aw man my hex edit program wont open it either
this card reader is sketchyyy I wonder if I have anymore

i think the backup MBR mostly just keeps things from being messed with when the mbr is (attempted to be) used instead. soo my Opinion of the new system was that if the new stuff got corrupted , falling back to the mbr would make it look all screwed up.

in guidpt's the mbr is there so that windows xp and stuff wont mess around or tell you to format your hard drive I think

right
so people access it different, think it is screwed up and format it :-) makes perfect sence.

1:57 AM
omg psycogeek it's you :)
your fox is so cute
dog goes woof cat goes meow
I love when hardware lets you take off its <strike>--clothes--</strike> case
@JourneymanGeek can you teach me to do cross out?

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere 3 dashes with no space before and after the thing you want to strike out ---like this---
You should read the help

I should, I need help
I thought it was a secret thing
I love when hardware lets you take off its clothes case
I just hatched a great idea! screw windows! I
let me boot into my linux on my usb stick and as IT to read the card :D
I'ma be back as root ;)

2:39 AM
Trying to get to bed earlier, so I'm going to say good night.

3:17 AM
linux doesnt read it either and disktype doesnt tell me what filesystem it is

hm. Testdisk?

Its a program

yeah I guess I need to choose intel/PC partition and it didnt find any partitions now it's stuck but the activity LED on the reader is going nuts maybe it's searching for a partition
oh no partition found
Il ltry that photo rec program next
probably can't do anything because it's reading it as 524 kb volume

3:42 AM
hmmm okay so even though the front sticker is mostly ripped I've figured out this is an SD HC card I wonder if this reader Im using doesnt support tha tformat from being too hold
SO
great I got the card stuck in my camera and the camera's dead and the usb cable for charging is not standard and idk where it is
greattt
ya man

all this over a cheap china flash chunk? You know this happens regular like. they set the firmware to display that the flash chip has (say) 8Gig and the chip is really a 2 or 4. then when the controller for the card tries to write to the nonexisting memory, the whole thing fails to work.
It is really weird how it causes total collapse, when one would think it would just start to fail to write. but apparently they are to lame to realise (even) that they are writing to nothing, no checks of any kind. Data fcan keep flowing in as if nothing is wrong, but (of course) non of it is written.
A person would also think that they could then retrieve the 2-4 gig of data that is actually there, and actually written, but it doesnt happen. after they "fix" the lies that were in the firmware even, they are still left with an empty chip that wasnt worth the cost of shipping it.
Analise the series of errors: 1) bought cheap chip thinking they would save money (and money is time and time is money) .
2) didnt fill the chip completely one measly time and run a compare on the data going to it, before using it , or using it on something important.
3) didnt ever back up the chip, when most chips would take a tiny portion of todays hard disk space, and any chip can fail, or even get broken at any time.
4) spends a day trying to recover from mass human error, they could be using to re-do everything they put on the chip, and go on about life with a lesson learned.

4:05 AM
LOL
no idk this card is just totally wierd
I just stuck in a 16 GB SDHC and it read, and then I flipped the lock switch and it still read
the card Im trying to read is a 32GB with the lock switch missing cause it broken off, but it plain doesnt read, shows up as a 1MB unknown filesystem volume
well what can you do

the lock should never effect the reading of it. A good quality real branded chip that goes into RO mode when it begins to fail, the data can still be read.
what you can do, is find a trash can :-)
Course it would help if there was a backup of at least 80% of it first.
another way to save 90Minutes, Dont watch the movie Amerigeddon , dont know how it even gets 3.5 stars

my friend brought it up and I was like oh I can try to get the data for you no worries!
looks like I didnt get it
integral ultima pro SDHC 32 GB

if you can hook up the nand chip to a seperate controller (a bit of electronics) .

oo surgery?
does that require soldering because I tried to unsolder a laptop's power connector and I couldnt get it off the board

yea it wouldnt matter if it was a 32gig Sandisk, that looked just like a real one, IF it was a scam.
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere solder sucker, or at least solder wick could help removing the power connector. a GOOD mounted power connector could have 2-4 metal legs that go through the board and are twisted below it to lock it into place. makes it very hard to get out. but nobody makes anything that potent anymore, and that is why most of it breaks easily.
mini usb used to be locked down good like that before too, now most of them are top soldered and will snap off with the first drop.

4:26 AM
I had a manual sucker thats like a pen and pulls in the air and grabs solder
the power connector had these flat and wide legs not wire legs

good that will get like 90% off, if your fast enough, hot enough, and sealed enough.

OMG PSYCO GUESS WHAT
I JUST POKED THE CASE OF THIS SD CARD WITH MY FINGER NAIL AND IT CAME APART WITH NO FORCE AT ALL

a good motherboard (lol like they put those in anymore either) can be "clad" have a copper ground layer that distributes heat for cooling. that can cool what your trying to heat, and make it very hard to keep the solder fluid.
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere lol, I had an Adata card that came apart like that once too, it worked well before and after. sent it back to adata and never saw it or any responce from them ever again. And i will never buy another adata anything ever again.

it's not coming apart though :(

because it is someone elses . . . could be returning it to them in one piece :-) on the other hand, if there was some way to ID the actual nand memory that was used on the card.

4:40 AM
Im watching a movie Ill try to rip apart the casing next commercial haha

i dont think any of them look like that inside anymore?

what the (%*% is this
pardon my french but inside this plastic all there is is the contact and like half a cm of chip I think you're right and this is a fake?!

yea but to make you feel better about the efforts you have made, you know they had to pay 4-6$ for it :-)
a deal at twice the price
another creative fake

5:02 AM
I guess he thought he was recording files to it but i nreality nothing got recorded

usually there is just enough memory in fake cards, that the person buying it even provides good feedback, before they lose everything. A person Must Fill the whole card to test, then check what is filled.

5:16 AM
Im going to open one of my working SD HC cards see what they look like
hmm okay

5:35 AM
Lol...I recorded a 2:30 video with my phone and the file is 200mb

yup it's insane
maybe if you put in on your pc you can compress it

And I think it was just 1080p30fps

I cant even open my real SD cards, one doesnt even have a defined groove and the second does but it's completely melted together

You have important data on those sdS?

by open I mean I can't open the cover like the cover just came off for the one I think that is fake

5:47 AM
@Freedo 2min 30sec or 2hours?

6:05 AM
2 minutes

Bob

Q: Is this a real 32GB SDHC card?

CausingUnderflowsEverywhereIs this a real 32GB SDHC card? Here are two images of how the chip looks that I extracted from inside the case of the card. Sorry for the horrible picture quality. The side with the contacts has smooth black shiny plastic and the backside is also black but doesn't have a smooth finish. No si...

4 hours later…
10:22 AM
Hi
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Looks like those images were taken with a potato

morning

10:49 AM
A quick question, in windows 7, we had a directory in the start menu that you could put programs in that would boot when your pc started, where can I find this directory in windows 10?

@Bob thx, had problems searching for it as it kept giving results for how to boot windows

Bob
@Ferrybig search for "win10 startup folder"

11:35 AM
@Bob is that just an eternal loading screen?

I have an HDD bay here which has both a black and a yellow SATA connector, why is that?
Like, it can only fit one drive. What's the difference?

errrr
@OliverSalzburg need more info
some kinda server, why did you put a yellow and black cable in? (generally cables don't come preplugged in)

@djsmiley2k It has two ports, not cables.

what is 'it'?

11:42 AM
And I'm putting nothing in there before I know what the purpose is
@djsmiley2k An HDD bay

that goes where?

Into a server

why does a bay have ports?
It might be so you could pre-cable it for use with onboard or raid ports?

k, so is the bay cabled to anything?

You can put an HDD into the front

11:46 AM
right now i see
errr weird?>

Isn't this kind of a common thing or am I using the wrong terms?
I mean, except for the two ports :D

Only thing I can guess at is that it lets you put 2x2.5 drives in instead of a 3.5
yes right terms, but I've never seen something like that bnefore :D
Also, so dusty D:

Oh yeah!
We're currently doing a migration for a client, upgrading everything
Internet is down, we're powering the whole office through a MotoG with ICS on my laptop

I looked up the manufacturer
The only by they have with 2 ports is the SAS one

11:48 AM
0_0

And not sure why it would matter

are you sure its sata?

Their SATA bays only have 1 port
@JourneymanGeek No
There were no HDDs in it. We just want to put some in

For some wierd reason my brain is asking if its dual port SAS

SATA drives fit though

11:50 AM
yeah, but the connector would look SLIGHTLY different but sata like

@JourneymanGeek nice
> SAS devices feature dual ports, allowing for redundant backplanes or multipath I/O; this feature is usually referred to as the dual-domain SAS.[5]

;p
the SAS connectors wouldn't have the 'break' between connectors Sata would
so you can put sata into SAS sometimes but not vice versa

This one has a break
Let's just go for it!
Powering up
Seems to work
Just a bit of magic smoke, but otherwise it's fine ;P

kidding :P
Thanks :)

12:13 PM
Huh, if I have 2 RAID volume on an Intel Matrix controller, how do I change from which to boot?
It only offer me one of the in the BIOS and I see no option to change it in the RAID configuration screen
But the latter shows both volumes as bootable
Hmmm... maybe I should install an OS on it! :P

12:35 PM
ah, ok

Q: Making a virus in a video

MikeeCoolSo, I heard that I can inject a virus in anything and I want to know how can I inject a virus in a Windows Media player videos or videos in general, and a virus that can really cause trouble for the computer. And also if you can tell how can I solve it?

Bob
@JourneymanGeek uh... no?
browser (edge) actually works :D
(pretty much just an iframe)

1:11 PM
@Rahul2001 damn

@arda apparently there's a complete series of videos which consists of this guy coming back, and then arguing with security personnel

yeah
watched 3
hope they arrest him + make him pay for the iphones and that macbook air 13' gray

1:35 PM
Sounds like he's what people would call... a bit of an entitled arse.
Or a hipster. A petanque boule? Of all things?

1:53 PM
Is this producing anything useful for anyone? asus.com/Motherboards/P7P55DE/HelpDesk_Download
As in driver downloads

Can anyone ID the tune here? youtube.com/watch?v=3nLEkqbMwIw

@jokerdino Shazam and Soundhound prefer to interpret the sound of the servers :(
And I don't know the song

:((

@Rahul2001 why is he so upset at apple?

@jokerdino
Seems to be a newer version of this

2:09 PM
500 miles!

@jokerdino yep, it was inspired by it AFAIK

The Hooters' 500 miles was released in 1989?
There seems even older versions lol

@Burgi didn't honour 2 year warranty which is compulsory in the EU

in the UK its only 12 months

@jokerdino yep, I think it's a folk song... I have a music sheet for it and the book is from the early 1900s IIRC
@Burgi well, you're not in the EU anymore... :P

2:15 PM
yes we are

yes they are

What?

and will be until atleast 2019 (probably longer)
we don't leave the EU until article 50 is triggered

Oh yeah I think I remember now

They are leaving in future, supposedly.

2:17 PM
2019 at the earliest

@jokerdino and they cannot cancel their ticket to hell?

Why, they bought the ticket.

when article 50 is triggered there is a mandatory 2 year leaving process (based on how long it took greenland to leave)
bare in mind that the UK is the 2nd largest economy in europe, the 5th largest in the world. there is a LOT of treaties and things that need smoothing over before we leave so that leaving period will probably be extend by the european commission
@jokerdino technically we voted to consider buying the ticket as the vote was not legally binding

While true, I don't see UK not choosing to withdraw from EU.

I'll watch when I reach home
@electronbeam hasn't been online for a while :(
Had to ask her something
Oh, yeah, telegram...

2 hours later…
4:09 PM
Whee, four malware scans at the same time!
Looks like we're CPU-bound :\
SSD still averaging well over 1000 IOPS.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Norton Security, Windows Defender, and Malicious Software Removal Tool.
MBAM will be the first to finish.
All eight hardware threads are saturated :\
Average disk queue depth is about 2 but peaked as high as 26.
More than 12,000 peak IOPS.
The wonders of a fast CPU and SSD...
Sep 14 at 21:10, by allquicatic
1500 IOPS is 15 times better than standard HDDs, and 15000 IOPS is 150 times better
It's amazing how SSDs can turn I/O-bound workloads into compute-bound workloads...

4:38 PM
@Rahul2001 how dare you call my device a potaote? it doesnt even conduct electricity!

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere potatoes do conduct electricity

yes and my device is electricity PROOF

In fact, they can be used as batteries to power clocks
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere uh, yeah, sure whatever you say...

huh?
the organic material can decompose creating electricity?

You need a zinc and iron rod

4:43 PM
I dont use rods

Or strip or wire whatever

windows 7 ultimate lets me mount disk images from explorer right?

Just stuck them in a potato and voila!
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere nope
Windows 8 and later

5:09 PM
aw man
but windows 7 is currently the best windows OS

5:20 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere no.

do you reckon that windows xp still is?

Mainstream support of 7 finished on January 13, 2015. It still has extended support, but tbh I wouldn't consider an os without mainstream support the best os on that series.
Try getting used to 10. It isn't bad. It is actually pretty good when you get used to it.

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel

thanksssss @David :)

@arda A lot of us here are paranoid about privacy

5:24 PM
@Rahul2001 in that case:

I actually had a tool to mount them before when I needed to mount a cd I didnt have physically for a game, but yeah

Privacy is a lie if you are online.

yeah but thats a laptop bruh it gots wireless card
what now

Also, the whole universal app thing is crazy

i dont use apps

5:24 PM
@Rahul2001 You don't have to use any of them

@arda You can have privacy and use the internet at the same time

arda I dont like my windows doing many unnessecary disk reads all the time all day all night when my computer is on.

I don't think windows 10 does that

@arda But the universal app system will still be taking up space and also it esses with the basic core of the OS

do you have windows 10?

5:26 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I do

COntrol Panel was awesome, the new settings app just sucks
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere So do I

@Rahul2001 you can still open that

want to do a test?
we can close all our programs and open procmon for a minute and see
well you guys might have some unnesecary background stuff running that might taint the results

@arda I just like a clean system which doesn't have like seven different ways of doing something which conflict with each other
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I do, and I connot close it right now

Left: control panel, right: the so called "godmode", a shortcut that shows all the stuff you might want to use.

5:27 PM
My robotics program is compiling
@arda IK

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I'll boot up a vm

something wrong with my windows 7

ah, I removed my W10 vm
sorry

Give me Windows 7 any day over 8/10

procexp thinks that programs started by explorer are started by a nonexistant process even though the pid of the parent matches explorer.exe

5:29 PM
I can get all the features from Windows 10 that I need on it

this happened since yesterday when I've been fiddling with this sd card and recovery tools gmm
like linux kernel on windows?

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere Wha...?

whats this
started by searching indexer why does it have a user agent
windows search started a search protcol host process with this user agent in the commandline

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT; MS Search 4.0 Robot)

oh thats the guy who drilled his phone

5:37 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere he destroys loads of iphones

I think I'm going to get a patent on this phone case I designed
It's very simple, but should be able to survive the hardest of falls
Not the Burj Khalifa fall though

you designed something rahul? :P

@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I designn a lot of stuff
@DavidPostill That's pretty lame

so you studeid chemistry and physics?

@DavidPostill that's really really stupid
he could've killed someone.

5:47 PM
@CausingUnderflowsEverywhere I'm still a student

okay you must have a passion for mathematics

I kinda do :)

ME TOO
let's be friends :)

Aren't we already?
lol
okay :)
Does anyone know if liquid nitrogen is corrosive in nature?
I always wanted a liquid nitrogen cooled PC

5:51 PM
Okay, dreams destroyed :/

didnt think it already existed? hehe

@DavidPostill Very short term...

Is it possible. Yes for short periods of time.
Is it safe. If you are used to handling cryogenic liquids, yes.
Ever done it. No.

Is it wise. NO.

Liquid Nitrogen is good for benchmark records, but it is just an oddity. Fun to watch, but not practical.

I saw some insane overclocking for the worlds best benchmark done with liquid nitro

@DavidPostill Yep, read it
> Overclockers do it in competitions. It's a hands-on experience, with the nitrogen being poured in manually on the fly to try and get overclocking world records. It's not viable as an everyday cooling method. It also destroys the CPU. Many overclockers in these competitions have dropped out because the CPU was killed in the process.

5:58 PM
yumm liquid nitrogen
