6:40 PM
HELLO!
I ams computers persons

We're not all retarded in here.

@Dave But @Hennes is imaginary ;)

@DavidPostill Don't worry, i got the joke haha

@R.Doto Let's see how many others get it ;)

6:57 PM
I am not saying you guys are. LOL

I'm schizophrenic with multiple personalities, i'm actually talking to myself. LOL! :D

LOL

7:30 PM
The fuck?

7:46 PM
me so board
silly questions today

I think I am going to read that, followed by a little yoga. :)

@Hennes That's the least amusing bit ;) I haven't seen a rant that good for a while. It's a shame he didn't post it to meta ;)
It wasn't proposed by the OP, but presumably by one of his socks.

lmao @DavidPostill
If you want to waste time fiddling with your moderator / "edit someone else's post" buttons while organizing your underwear by general color scheme and / or Superhero name
lol

Interestingly the OP has been a member for 5 years - he should be now understand the difference between a question and an answer.
As a commentor on the post I wonder which camp I fall in?
"Camp #1 is changing my post into something more unhelpful to someone with the actual problem. Camp #2 is convinced that my problem was in fact -- wait for it, ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I WOULD HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING ABOUT! And Camp #3 seems to be too busy roasting Darth Vader shaped marshmallows over their balls to even understand what is going on. "

I love Camp #3

8:47 PM
Is there a way to make an HTTP link to a superuser question and have it appear like http:// rather than the title of the question?

I'm totally in Camp 3, in fact.. I was born out of Camp3.

what is camp 3?

@barlop ^^^
my last post. The last few posts have been very amusing to say the least

@barlop, you'll need to refer to @DavidPostill 's "for your amusement:" comment above.

@barlop what is the context for said link? Where do you want to put it?

8:49 PM
I think he means when you copy paste a url in chat how to make it show the link instead of the post.

just add any other text to that same line. instead of just posting the link text only.

I just tried that with a single space before - it didn't work.
But my link to a review above didn't get oneboxed.

Is there such a thing as a UEFI DVD?
or is it only USBs that can be UEFI?
or neither?

Bob
@allquixotic Nice!

anybody want to chip in on this superuser.com/questions/1007351/…
@Psycogeek I mean in a post

9:08 PM
@DavidPostill I'm a little late but gratz on the gold tag!

for example.. I have superuser link in this question I put quotes around it because I didn't want it replaced with a title superuser.com/questions/1007351/…
third paragraph
Also, you know when you set the "BIOS" to UEFI
then it's not a BIOS anymore is it?
what is it?

It is firmware

@Insane Thanks ;)
2

The motherboard firmware can be loaded with:
1) BIOS
2) EFI (which can have a CRM/backward compatability mode)
3) Something else (e.g. coreboot)

@DavidPostill I feel his pain.

9:28 PM
So you call it the Firmware's gui?
isn't there a more specific term than "firmware"?
the motherboard might have different firmware on it for different purposes

@barlop can you ask him to post the method he used when creating the bootable usb drive for win7. It might simply of been an error along the way.

the usb is fine, it's giving the same BSOD as macrium usb is, and the same BSOD as the DVD is
The bootable usb drive for win7, I made.. with rufus, some time back.. no doubt not UEFI
The DVD I made with windows 7 downloader.
One thing that doesn't give the BSOD, is the newer macrium USB
the older macrium USB gives the BSOD
check the superuser link mentioned within that question

@barlop Give me 5 minutes :D

ta

@barlop ahhhh, have you tried resetting the CMOS? That way you'd clear the BIOS settings. When you've done that, just reset the boot priority, so the USB boots first.
@barlop only if you feel confident taking apart your laptop haha

9:43 PM
you don't sound very expert!
The USB is booting
and anyhow.. the USB is just a side point
the question is about a DVD
And the DVD is booting
If it gives a BSOD, or that red line above where it says starting windows, then it's booting

@barlop Oops. I thought you were booting from a usb - and that was the issue.

It is Booting
from USB or DVD

@barlop what is the issue then? I'm not following.

Forget the USB see the question

Q: I get a red bar when trying to install windows 7 DVD, and it freezes

barlopI get a red bar when trying to install windows 7 DVD, and it freezes. I read here https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/aee2b86b-ab1d-409a-b8ca-e0f6a4c90b3c/windows-7-pro-installation-media-stalling-at-startup-screen?forum=w7itproinstall to turn off secure boot. But I have. ...

look at the question title
only the last paragraph mentions a USB as a side note. So ignore that if you find that confusing

@barlop What was the pre-installed OS for the laptop?

9:53 PM
win8

@barlop have you removed win8 completely?
sounds like a stupid question i know

10:09 PM
@barlop also, please post images of your BIOS setup utility screens.

10:28 PM
@R.Doto I was planning on booting windows 7 and removing the windows 8 partition
does Windows 8 screw with the BIOS such that a windows 7 DVD can't remove it?
R Doto- what are you looking for re the BIOS?
There are a few relevant settings
A)UEFI
B)Legacy
C)Secure Mode
I mention the effects of all these in the question. So for example
Secure mode has to be disabled, otherwise I get an error and it won't attempt to boot the DVD
So that covers 'C'
I have Secure Mode set to disabled.
The other two options are A,B
With 'A' / UEFI. I get the red bar
With 'B' / Legacy, I get the BSOD
What more would you see if I posted pics of my BIOS?

What does the BSOD say?

@barlop it's just that your question doesn't really make much sense... It's full contraindications and there are so many words crammed together making it a bit overwhelming. If you could re-format your question, removing all of the junk and keeping the important stuff -- using bullet points -- it would make it so much simpler.
@barlop I'm not sure if i can suggest revisions so, i haven't bothered to begin to submit a request :P

Is there a firmware bios update for your mobo?

@Dave a link in the question links to that
the BSOD is used in this question
where I got a similar issue

@barlop somewhat. Windows has a safety protocol pre-installed to prevent piracy. It may, and has been known, to affect the installation of downgraded software. Hence, when you set it to Legacy, and choose the optical drive to boot first on the BIOS setup (i hope), it affects the installation of another OS sometimes. Possibly since, you're not dual booting your removing the win8 OS completely.

10:41 PM
You say my question is full of contradictions. Can you mention some?
that'd be great because it'd improve my knowledge, and correct the question

@barlop generally speaking it overwrites, however.

Overwrites What?!
You write "it affects the installation of another OS". The installation of my existing OS(Win8) is not affected either, by this problem. So I don't know what you mean

@barlop To be honest, i think you should scrap it the whole question and restart. Put a small intro explaining the issue. Include the methods you have tried, listing them in streamlined bullet points. Forget the USB stuff. You've stated that you're not booting from USB so, it's irrelevant.

No it's not irrelevant
It got too complicated for you perhaps.

@barlop it adds confusion.

10:46 PM
for you, yes.
But others that may know the answer, might not be confused.
It is relevant
Because it is relevant information
to diagnosing the problem

@barlop well, then.
@barlop If you feel it's relevant, please, tidy up the formatting! haha

I like the formatting
it's just a difficult question
I asked a similar question here
1
Q: Error with WinPE "The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant"

barlopI have some WInPE based media.. I think they're WinPE based.. One is a WinPE based Macrium Reflect bootable USB. (The linux based one boots fine). Another is WinPE 32bit. Clonezilla which is linux based, boots fine. I've fiddled with some options in the BIOS e.g. boot mode has UEFI or leg...

after 24 hours nobody answered, but I found the answer and posted it
I hoped that somebody may have a better answer than me, but nope.
I understand you don't like the formatting. But you said there are contradictions.. i'd like to hear them

The text flow is very erratic. You start talking about the DVD then just swap to USB, then back again.

No I don't. I mention USB in one single paragraph that begins with the letters "BTW"
And just to make it idiot proof..
the last sentence of that paragraph, says "So right now I am just trying to get it to work with DVD."
maybe not clear enough for you, but that looks clear and reasonably idiot proof to me!

Somebody please edit his question. It's as if you were trying to emulate the cardiac rhythm, in piece of text. I've seen better formatting from a 8 year-old dyslexic child.

10:54 PM
I don't mind clarifying the question but i'm not going to water it down

I dont see anywhere that says that you attempted to update the bios's firmware.

I didn't
I might give that a try
However..
I'd note that Macrium got round the problem
look at the WinPE question that was similar that I answered.
that one involved Macrium.
Same BSOD. Solved with the latest version of Macrium Reflect.
I'd rather have the tools to solve it even without a motherboard firmware update.
as I did with Macrium.

@barlop You wouldn't be "watering it down", it's simply called being "literate".

R Dota. You're asking me to remove the paragraph about what happens with USB which is relevant re diagnosing the problem
That would be watering it down
And you've said there are contradictions yet have not listed a single one

Confused what ACPI is... From what i'm understanding here is that Windows requires a FULLY ACPI compliant BIOS.
Macrium obviously does not
Nor does linux if you were to install that.

10:59 PM
Dave: The old Macrium Does give that BSOD
See that link I gave, it shows it

Yeah i saw

Macrium bootable is based on Win PE
So why are you saying Macrium doesn't?

@barlop This is draining. I'm suggesting some edits now. Use the '@', jeez.

@Dave i'm saying if the old macrium does and the newer macrium doesn't. Then it may be possible that Win7 install can be written on USB or DVD such that it doesn't either.
just like Win PE 10 doesn't.

Thats a possibility
Good point

11:04 PM
well, at least somebody understands me ;-)
I have a verbal IQ of 125, that is approx 1/15 people so I should be eloquent enough to be understood ;-)

@barlop Well then. Standards must of been substantially lower when you were tested ;-)

interesting link
need to get outta here.. gotta head home

@R.Doto Recently tested.
And more than once.

@barlop You used the '@' symbol. So proud. You're going to love my edit suggestion.
2

@R.Doto I just checked and you haven't made one
please communicate more clearly.

11:12 PM
@barlop i haven't finished yet!

@R.Doto yes I can see that
but that wasn't clear from what you wrote there, was it.

huys in ms access 2013, if you have two short date fields, a and b how, to make a validation text such that, b >=a? i tried >= 'a' didnt work
so i want to make sure that date b is never less than date a
last time i asked there were no access users, if that's the case now i'll ask on the main site

@Lynob I doubt it's changed. Pretty much the same bunch of regulars here.

@barlop Haha. Actually, it was! If i had sent it, i would have said "Don't hesitate to tell me how much you love (!) my edit suggestions!"

my bad, ill copy paste on the main site then

11:16 PM
@DavidPostill 'regulars'! :O

@R.Doto Well you are new, but as for the rest of us, we're old ;)

@barlop ugh. I can't embed the picture into the edit -.- My plan is flawed </3

@Lynob: use sql.. select case when b >= a then b else a end as greater_datefield from table ?
i think thats valid asql syntax
or it may be

@R.Doto link too imgur

select IIF(B>=A,B,A) as greater_datefield from table

11:19 PM
@Dave ahhh didnt think about it, right right, answer here so i could accept and vote it up, coz i asked it anyway so why delete it when i can give u some rep superuser.com/questions/1007392/…
unless it would be voted it down so bad, but i guess not

lol
There you go!
I'm outta here. Time to head home

thanks will accept it when SU lets me

@JourneymanGeek I used <code> like you said and David reverted it! Waaah! (Jk)

Im terrible at posting :(, I tend to edit my own posts 10 times.. Even when it's a one sentence response.

@Insane Oh. I wasn't aware you were under orders :/

11:27 PM
Sorry @Dave I meant @DavidPostill
Well when I used ` he said it'd probably be better to use <code> so you can see the full line without the vertical scroll bar :P

s/vertical/horizontal?
I can put it back if you prefer?
@Insane

Well I don't really mind but I guess it is easier to read a really long line using <code>

Bob
Huh. This looks suspiciously like the Asus ones :P

I guess so. It's a bit of a strange case. Normally lines of code aren't so loooooong.
@Insane Done.

Yeah true
And thanks :)

11:48 PM
@barlop is WinPe usually installed via USB or DVD or Both?
@barlop i've never used it before.

either

Bob
Hm. @JourneymanGeek I'm really tempted to pick up one of the cheap SSDs to play around with, but I have nowhere to install it :P

@R.Doto if you've never used it before then you're very inexperienced.
I suggest you try it
it's pretty much what is used since the days of people using DOS Boot Disks are long gone (did you ever use those?)

I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.

@barlop Nope!

11:58 PM
@R.Doto How old are you?!

@barlop it is notebook, right?

irrelevant
It has a USB socket and a DVD drive. It's a laptop/notebook

@barlop Old enough.
