@terdon Oh, it's just me venting after having to deal with said clobbering too many times. Don't read too much into it.

Nah, I didn't, frustration is understandable :)

A: What is the rule for adjective order?

tchristI am reminded of how J.R.R. Tolkien’s mother once famously corrected him at a very early age when he said ‘a green great dragon’. She told him that it had to be ‘a great green dragon’, but when he asked her why, she couldn’t answer, thereby starting him down the road of puzzling over matters lin...

I... never consciously thought about adjective order.
The wrong order always sounds weird though.

Huh, that is interesting.
Damn, tchrist is annoying. He's ridiculously knowledgeable about the language and then goes and writes The Perl Cookbook showing he is profoundly knowledgeable about Perl as well. And he's funny.

Bob
He wrote that? o.O

Yeah.

uh
Esperanto (/ɛspəˈrɑːntoʊ/ or /-ræntoʊ/; [espeˈranto] listen ) is a constructed international auxiliary language. It is the most widely spoken constructed language in the world. Its name derives from Doktoro Esperanto ("Esperanto" translates as "one who hopes"), the pseudonym under which L. L. Zamenhof published the first book detailing Esperanto, the Unua Libro, on July 26, 1887. Zamenhof's goal was to create an easy-to-learn, politically neutral language that would transcend nationality and foster peace and international understanding between people with different languages. Between 100,000 and...

?

Bob
@terdon a constructed language, from 1887. I'm currently listening to a song that uses it...

Oh, yeah, it's pretty famous actually.
I had a friend who spoke it in university.

4:55 PM
how hard is the language?

Supposedly very easy. It is very much based on Latin languages though so I'm not sure how easy it would be for people with no knowledge of any.

for speakers of Spanish/English/French it's pretty easy because there are a lot of cognates
for speakers of Tamil.... probably not so much, unless they also know English well :P
translate ta: Esperanto is supposedly very easy.

hah.

It's not working!!!! :(
but someone used it the other day!

@terdon it's unfair to people without mod powers in general, not just me specifically.

5:00 PM
@allquixotic "that joker dinosaur, that is unfair. also, you that know."

@jokerdino LOL

Bob
@allquixotic Hmm... Cavil? :)

at least it translated "joker dinosaur" correctly :D
!!help translate

:)

@allquixotic Command translate does not exist.

it literally read 'joker dinosaur' simple transliteration.

That's not Cavil's job, it's the SE engine somehow.

Bob
@terdon Yes, but someone decided that the SE engine does not need to be accessible to us, so we'll make it Cavil's job.

well we're going to make it Cavil's job -- with liberty and justice for all -- so mods aren't the only ones who don't have to type in translate.google.com

Bob
Fuck the SE engine. If that's how they want to play...

5:02 PM
@Bob :D

I think it's coz of all the abuse of the translate feature.

> all the
one guy abused it

Bob
Gah! The song I'm listening to just cut off right before the end!
@jokerdino There's many ways to prevent said abuse without taking a sledgehammer to it.

True
AND, a mod doesn't need the translate bot

Bob
Make it user-specific, rather than feeds-user, as it is now. Throttle it, like normal chat messages.
@jokerdino Pretty much - the situations where a translate bot might be needed, rare as they are, and the situations where a mod is involved don't really intersect.
Unless it's a mod talking to a user who doesn't understand English.

5:05 PM
which is a corner case of a corner case

Bob
...and that's honestly not all that good of an idea, considering mistranslations -_-

I think it's some kind of an experimental feature for what the Chat API can do

@Bob have you seen that Prince of Bel Air youtube video where they take the original Prince of Bel Air intro song, translate it through 5 languages and back into English and do the skit? and then run it through like 20, then 40 passes?

Bob
@allquixotic Yep.

5:13 PM
@jokerdino What abuse? Swearing or something?

@allquixotic actually, the Aladdin one is pretty amazing just for how they manage to squeeze in the extremely long translations.

lol. a Disney song with the key lyric "give up, give up!"
sounds appropriate post-9/11
maybe it's a subliminal message from Disney... hmmmm

Bob
@allquixotic I actually think her voice sounds better than the original in that video :P

I don't know the original

Bob
@allquixotic What, you haven't heard it played over every supermarket/shopping centre speaker, on the radio, etc.?

ROFL Pocahontas Color of the Wind - I know that one and it's hilarious
@Bob don't think so

the original vocals just don't seem to match the animation (sounds far more... mature? than the character looks)

A literal music video, also called a literal video version, is a parody of an official music video clip in which the lyrics have been replaced with lyrics that describe the visuals in the video. Literal video versions are usually based on music videos in which the imagery appears illogical, disconnected with the lyrics, and more concerned with impressive visuals than actual meaning. Most of the literal videos have been based on music videos from the 1980s and 1990s. Literal videos generally have new lyrics dubbed over those of the original video, and often include captions for better clarity. Lyrics...
they're pretty funny

@Bob that's not quite what DJO is, but those are funny too

Bob
problem is, the singer is usually not that great of one :\

@Bob well, yeah -- all the great singers spend their days with vocal therapists and trainers while memorizing lyrics that great songwriters have written so they can make an album and make millions :P
you don't think Hannah Montana Twerkey Miley Cyrus wrote "Wrecking Ball", do you? Five advanced songwriter talents combined to write the actual lyrics and composition and production.

Bob
@allquixotic they're not mutually exclusive
beside the point, though - that a lot of the literal videos are just people speaking over the MV

On Stack Overflow and our other code-related sites, creating a minimal, complete, and verifiable example is the best way to get an answer to your question. We’ve always loved JSFiddle and sites like it because they let both askers and answerers reference runnable, working code that demonstrates their problem or solution.

Unfortunately, the use of these external sites introduces a few problems:

If the link breaks, the post becomes worthless.

If the code isn’t embedded in the page, visitors are forced to go elsewhere to get the full content of the question or answer. …

Just need 3 more upvotes, and I have a legendary answer!

oh, I already downvoted it because it was a bunch of ignorant BS already upvoted it, good job!
and totally kidding ;-P
about the struckthrough part :P

I kinda figured, @allquixotic. I have a weird feeling if you disagreed with me, you'd tell me in a comment or on here ;)
But, I did find another awesome script online that I'm going to share tomorrow, after my rep-capping stops :P

I'd probably let you talk to the cat if I disagreed
the !!no cat

@CanadianLuke already upvoted, though I have no clue when I did that...
How can anyone still not know about the memory limits on Windows 7, I thought we did a canonical answer back when it was released like 100 years ago...

9:09 PM
@Mokubai if Windows 7 was released 100 years ago, then I'm pretty happy to be living in 2109 :D do we have fusion power plants yet? thorium at least? how about nuclear batteries that last 20 years? graphene processors? quantum? nobody's still using diesel fuel or gasoline, right?
catch me up here, come on. don't leave me hanging!

Well, for one thing it's f*cking dark since some idiot scorched the sky...
There's killer robots everywhere

scorched the sky? :( with what?

And this asshole keeps flying around like he's superman
@allquixotic Those that remember were wiped out by the robots

oh btw what ever happened with that Ukraine-Russia-US thing?

@allquixotic Putin's aid trucks actually DID have aid in them.

9:12 PM
@allquixotic What do I look like? A scientist or something? I'm just some rasta techno music listening freak hiding out in the sewers...

@MichaelFrank what kind of aid? nuclear gatorade? a.k.a. the stuff you use to make big booms?

@allquixotic That all went fine once we figured out that it was the robots we needed to kill. Helped unity and stuff. Pity about them wiping out most of us first.

@Mokubai so is the entire 21st century Internet running on your wristwatch or something?
why are we here?
sorry for all the questions btw; you tend to have a few after teleporting 100 years into the future

Well. I didn't really want to tell you this... but....

NOOOOOOOOOoo

9:19 PM
Well, thanks to anyone who upvoted my answer anyways. It was just a quick post from my cell one groggy morning... Lol

It was a nice answer, very succinct. I like how the other answer has stayed very firmly at 0, like we almost have community consensus or something.

you would be welcome, except that my upvotes take a great deal of physical and electrochemical effort on my part, so they won't be forthcoming very often; savor it while you can

@CanadianLuke 2 points left dude...

:D
Actually, I need those last two votes to come in after 2 hours... I want more rep :P

9:29 PM

@allquixotic Why did I hear that in the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android?

@Mokubai your problem, not mine

@allquixotic Hey, you're the one plugged into a machine being used for go-juice... don't you go getting snarky with us sewer dwellers. At least we've got . . . uh . . .
Wait, what have we got?

@Mokubai EPIC RAVES. Also spinal plugs.

@Mokubai Do you think I could afford one of these? in the present world, not in 2114
a 2015 Chevy Volt would be worthless in 2114, anyway

9:35 PM
@allquixotic Sure, just give me a moment to check your bank account...

I saw some guy driving a Lotus the other day... It was sliiiiick.

Kinda want an electric car.
I've driven a Prius, that was fun trying to see when the engine turned off...

I drive a Prius C. It's not totally electric, but it's very nice to drive.

@allquixotic Not an awful looking car, for a Chevrolet

@Mokubai There's not enough range in a PURE electric car for me to buy one
I need to go much further than any electric car, except for the top-end Tesla (which is about 2.5x-3.5x more than I can afford), can go on current Lithium tech

9:39 PM
@allquixotic How far do you go?

I like the plugin hybrid (PHEV) idea, though.
@Mokubai I drive 74 km per workday guaranteed, plus weekend errands and the occasional 2-5 km diversion for picking up dinner out.
about 92% of my driving is at highway speeds (at least 88 km/h) based on my previous calculations

Range 38 miles!?!?!? WTF?!? What is the point of that? I thought we'd gotten to 100+ miles already.

I DID IT! 100 UPVOTES!

@Mokubai Well, the thing about the Chevrolet Volt is that its 38 mile range is in pure EV mode. 38 miles is 82.6% of my daily commute. Also, the U.S. EPA forces them to dramatically underestimate electric range.

Total range 380 miles (cause we put a dinosaur juice engine in there too)

9:43 PM
@Mokubai Less aggressive drivers, like me, could probably drive my entire 46 mile commute without turning on the dinosaur juice engine.

@CanadianLuke Grats dude! grumble grumble never got legendary grumble grumble

@allquixotic My average speed on the highway, to and from work, is about 20-25km/h :<

@MichaelFrank damn dude

It's only about a 10km trip as well.

@MichaelFrank My average speed to and from work is maybe 2-5km/h

9:43 PM
we have crumbling bridges in my state (my state's highways have more bridges per mile than any other in the continental U.S.) which are in dire need of repair, but barring any accidents, the highway speeds often exceed 100km/h because people speed

@Mokubai I feel better now. ^_^

also, accidents used to be insanely common, but for some odd reason they've dropped off dramatically along my route in the past year
we had accidents almost daily in 2011, omg it was pathetic

@MichaelFrank but then I can only walk/run so fast....

@allquixotic Is there still that problem with people stealing bridges in the night?

this year I've seen about 15-20 accidents in 9.5 months
compared to like 100+ in 2011
@MichaelFrank lol i dunno about that one @_@

@Mokubai part of my goal is to make my car run on 20% nuclear power, 15% wind and 15% solar -- that's the non-fossil mixture I get at home, give or take.
if I can drive from about 82% to 100% of my trip on the EV mode completely (no dinosaur juice), then recharge it at home with nukes, wind and that thing in the sky, I won't have to use dinosaur juice very often.
and yes, it's quite impressive that finally non-fossils are starting to make a real dent in our energy consumption here in the US :)

Well, I got good news, annoying news, then great news for this post! The good news is that the strike at my work may be over soon! YAY! The annoying news is that the staff systems haven’t been turned on for 4 months to do updates! WAH! The great news is that I can tell […]

fully 50% (and these are real numbers, not air numbers or estimates) of my energy at home does not come from crushed dinosaur or plant matter

@CanadianLuke about time! :P
Might be worth tagging on wsusoffline.net for a "download once, update multiple computers" paragraph.

OMG PSYCHED @_@
local dealership has a Chevy Volt in stock :D (they tend to only stock one because PHEVs are still extremely unpopular in the U.S.; "hybrids" are growing dramatically in popularity but not PHEVs for some reason)
and it's not already being sold to someone else :D

9:50 PM
BUY NOW, DON'T WAIT.

nuuu, I have to think about money
have to do all the calcumalating.
also, President Barack Obama will personally write me a $7500 check (I kid about the "personally" part, but not the dollar amount) for buying an EV.
I like that part. A lot

You've already bought all the surfaces you realistically can, and now you're thinking about money for a car?

That's how I got my PS4. Just got paid and told the wife "Look, we have enough money!*"

*we'll just eat noodles for a couple weeks

@Mokubai Well. The nice thing is that my 2012 Honda Civic dinosaur juice sipper (yes, sipper, I get 40.1 miles to the gallon) trades in so well that, if I trade it in now, I will get substantial money back AND completely pay off my loan :D
it's preserved its value well.

So what are you waiting for?

9:53 PM
@allquixotic A gallon is about 4 litres, right?

@MichaelFrank 3.9 for part of the world 4.2 for the rest of it...

remember, 92% of my driving is with the vehicle in its maximum gear, and I only speed by a few km/h, not like a speed demon
if I were in traffic more often, my mpg or km/L would be much worse
non-hybrid vehicles are TERRIBLE at stop and go traffic.
it gets about half that in low speed conditions.

@allquixotic I know this feeling. My Prius should get 4-7L/100km... but traffic pushes it up to 10-12L/100km.

9:56 PM
dinosaur juice vehicles are tuned so that you get the most efficient operation in the highest gear but only barely (i.e., you get less and less efficiency the faster you go -- this is also true of every other vehicle, but worth pointing out)
@MichaelFrank I was under the impression that Hybrid vehicles are quite efficient in traffic? no?
regenerative braking?

@allquixotic The EV battery actually runs out quite quickly. Then the engine goes full bore trying to recharge it.

I mean, in terms of miles per gallon, usually in traffic a "typical" U.S. vehicle will get between 15 and 25 mpg in heavy traffic (variable speeds, always shifting from first to second gear and back, etc), but the U.S. EPA says that even the most basic hybrid vehicle with a small battery gets almost identical mpg in heavy traffic and highway speeds
not quite identical, but close
in fact, there are some Prius models that the U.S. EPA rating is higher in "city" traffic (which is basically stop and go) than on the highway

I need a TARDIS.
So it can translate all these MPG figures automatically for me.

OK, so currently my 2012 Honda Civic is giving me 5.865700332502077 L per 100 km when driving on the highway
11.760729166666666 L per 100 km is not unusual for a traditional gasoline car (not a large truck, just a standard 4-door vehicle) when driving in heavy traffic
the U.S. EPA says that the Chevy Volt will use the energy equivalent of about 2.6134953703703703 L per 100 km when its gasoline "range extender" engine is turned off (that is, when the EV battery has charge.)
and it will use about the same as my Honda Civic when the range extender is on
however, it's much less severely affected by heavy traffic conditions than the Civic in terms of efficiency; the EPA claims it only drops down to 6.720416 L per 100 km in heavy traffic with the trange extender.
either they're lying or that's really nice, eh?
it's the Federal Government so you always have to consider the first possibility :)

I don't get why PHEVs would be less respected than any other hybrid, at least they're using national grid power rather than dino juice for generating the electricity...

10:06 PM
!! s/trange/range/

@allquixotic however, it's much less severely affected by heavy traffic conditions than the Civic in terms of efficiency; the EPA claims it only drops down to 6.720416 L per 100 km in heavy traffic with the range extender. (source)

@Mokubai One of the reasons is that the base "Minimum Suggested Retail Price" of a commercially-available vehicle scales pretty much linearly with the Watt-hour capacity of the battery system.
Hybrids have about 15-25% of the Wh that are packed into the Chevy Volt's much more extensive battery system.
PHEVs therefore are much more upscale, whereas your typical working-class person can now afford a Prius C or possibly even a regular Prius. (no offense MichaelFrank)
Tesla Motors' vehicles take the PHEV concept to the extreme: rather than even bothering with a gasoline engine at all, just give the driver enough battery that it's sufficient range for any need they could possibly have (except for driving across the entire country). But then you pay for a $50,000 battery. Have fun with that.
One thing I don't understand is that the 2015 Honda Accord PHEV has a pathetic range of, like, 18 miles in EV mode, yet it costs MORE than the Chevy Volt. What the actual fuck.
Honda needs to get a clue about how to do hybrids. Even their regular hybrids are far less efficient than Toyota's.
At least the "Toyota Prius PHEV" costs a little bit less than the Chevy Volt, to compensate for its reduced range in EV mode.

18 miles would barely get you to the fecking shops

I can understand "getting less EV range == cheaper because we gave you less battery". This equation makes sense.
I don't understand "getting less EV range == more expensive because we're assholes".

Did Honda go on an Apple marketing course?

10:14 PM
It sure looks like it.
I can complement Honda on the fact that, almost without exception, the comparative efficiency of Honda's traditional gasoline engines vs. the competition's gas engines, favors Honda very well.
If you -- for some reason -- care a great deal about fuel efficiency, but you don't want a hybrid vehicle, use Honda.
That's what I did. I didn't feel that hybrids were ready in 2011.
But their hybrid programme is a waste.

I thought, many moons ago, they were working on hydrogen fuel cells, or did they fall by the wayside?

If you'll recall, General Motors, which produces Chevrolet's vehicles, got purchased by the Obama Administration a few years back. They were essentially an arm of the Federal Government for some time. The thing that impresses me is that they emerged a completely transformed company. They spent a lot of money trying to make more efficient gas vehicles, better hybrids, and better PHEVs.
@Mokubai Hydrogen fuel cells are still out there, but the main problems are safety; fuel station infrastructure; and the cost of the technology.
Basically, we COULD have probably spent the money we've spent on battery-powered hybrids and PHEVs on Hydrogen fuel cells instead, but rather than do that, using the limited funds we had available for R&D, we spent them on a perhaps more "immediately available" option that would turn out to be less efficient in the long run, but still an improvement.

Not 'merkin I'm afraid. Had no clue about GM... Sounds like good happened though...

And by "we" I mean the US Government, plus American, Japanese and South Korean car manufacturers.
@Mokubai GM was notorious from about 1970 through the mid-2000s as being one of the car manufacturers that simply doesn't give a rat's ass about fuel efficiency. Their vehicles complied with the letter of the law as set out by the EPA, but they never tried to exceed minimum requirements.

Sounds like the Great American Dream.

10:20 PM
Today, even their gasoline engines are competitive with Japanese and South Korean alternatives, and their PHEV and hybrid technology (and let's not forget capacity, since having awesome technology but making 3 of them per year is absolutely fucking useless) is on par with, or exceeding, the rest of the world.
We have battery cells being sourced from 5 or 6 different places around the world; some of them being made in the continental US; and all of the vehicles are assembled in the U.S. from parts that are shipped in from around the world (not unlike how commercial airliners are built).
It's an enormous industrial machine. It uses a lot of energy. But it's finally unlocking the economies of scale necessary to make it possible to sell something like the Chevy Volt at $35k MSRP, instead of $80k.

And tomorrow you go out and get yours. :-)

That would be incredible.
I doubt it'll be tomorrow or even this week, but I'm trying to figure out how much monthly my car loan will be.
I'm definitely going to have to complete my Hetzner migration this month and cancel that server.
Currently supporting two servers as I migrate services over to the new OVH box.
They're very close to being the same price, but the OVH one is better, and located geographically closer. And no transatlantic fiber in the way.

Here we are, all talking about nice efficient cars... and I get a snapchat from my brother showing me the car he just bought... a 2006 Subaru Legacy.

From what I hear, I got a pretty bad deal on my first car loan, because I didn't have much "good debt" established on record when I started.
Not sure if it's the same over there, but here, if you want to get a low interest rate on large purchases, you have to have established that you are able to responsibly and repeatedly pay down past loans without missing payments.
Your debt rating can actually be bad even if you have no past negative history, if you don't have any specific positive history.
"No news is bad news".
My credit rating has probably improved from being consistent in paying everything off for a few years.
@MichaelFrank -_____-

It sounds kinda similar, but mainly you prove your salary and that determines just how much they think that you are worth lending. It feels different to what you describe but probably isn't.

10:28 PM
Yea... I got a credit card when I was 18 so I could travel in America for a couple months. Apparently that was enough for me to develop a decent rating.
@Mokubai We're the same here.
Most finance companies here require income, rent and how long you've worked at your job/previous job.

@MichaelFrank where is "here" for you?

They want to know your income and job stability, too, but they also care about how much previous debt you've successfully paid off.

New Zealand

So if you have worked at the same place for 5 years and make a good amount of $$$, and have never had any debts or loans before, and you go ask for a house mortgage, they're going to let you talk to the !!no cat.

@MichaelFrank nice. Want to go there someday.

10:30 PM
They'll probably be like, "Go buy a car and come ask us again in 3 years"
American companies really want to see that past payment history on loans before they let you into a much bigger one than you've taken on before.
So your first car loan will be bad, your first house loan will be bad, etc.

Yeah, here you can get bad debt which makes it more difficult to get a good loan, but mainly you prove that you can pay a loan and that's it...
I've never bought a car, and only just started buying a house, but never had any bad credit or people telling me I should go get a loan so I could get another loan.
It sounds retarded.
Like debt for the sake of having debt.

Oh, we have "bad debt" of that type, too (missed payments, defaulting, etc)
@Mokubai It's to prove a concept called personal responsibility which the loans industry here holds in fairly high regard.

Not as retarded as my wife coming home with $200 worth of reusable diapers (for a baby we don't have yet) because "I saved money, because it was all on special!"

Yes, they really like to know that you are making enough money to be able to pay it, but they also like to know that you are a responsible person.
Their fear (and this fear has proven to be justified time and time again) is that you will get your new shiny and then do something irresponsible, and be unable to pay off the debt.
Or similarly that you will take on too much debt and become buried in it forever.

We mainly only have that as what penalises you, generally though we seem fairly equal in that almost everyone can be t the same rates on loans without proving that they previously bought a boat or some shit.

@Mokubai Yeah. It's some of both, here. Your credit rating as determined by the big banks (actually they're called "Credit Rating Agencies" or something) is a blend of your buying power, your current debt load (how much of your salary is already being used to pay off debts), and your past loan history (where a lack of history can count against you, and a long history of successful payments counts in your favor, and ... >>

Maybe we just like to have responsible lenders and borrowers over here...

Higher credit rating translates directly to lower interest loans.
>> ... a history of defaulted loans or missed payments can destroy your loanworthiness.)

I know we have some insane loan companies that prey on the people who can't get loans, but those people usually can't afford a loan in the first place, or managed to destroy their credit rating...
And having a good credit rating helps with getting a lower rate on credit cards. Which is why I say it sounds like it could be similar
But mostly you just prove you can pay it for the big things and everyone gets the same rate, just not necessarily the same amount of loan

btw @MichaelFrank that Subaru gets horrible pretty bad mpg -_-
Money and more money and more money -- jesus, they practically pay you to buy these things @__@
no wonder we're 18 Trillion in debt :P :P thanks for buying 1/4th of my car, guys! ^_______^ (cc @USAians)

@allquixotic He's 23. He's not thinking about fuel economy. :P

10:48 PM
@MichaelFrank why not?
I was obsessive about fuel economy at 23
I hated driving an old piece of crap

That's just not how he works. Fuel economy for him is telling mum not to drive her car too much, cause he needs the gas for when he uses it.

@_@
moving would be a huge fundamental life change for me that I probably couldn't even afford, so my best bet to help the environment is to get a really fuel efficient car..
either that or wait until they decide to pay me using bills instead of giving me a handful of peanuts every week
either that or marry a woman who makes at least as much as me
...wait, that's not possible
may as well consider possibilities like "either that or win the lottery, then move out"

Oh wow... It took the first clearing group almost 11 hours straight to clear the first raid in Destiny.

wait, there are raids? I thought Destiny was like Titanfall?

It's more like a Halo version of Borderlands.

10:59 PM
ahh!
cool....
is it mostly PvE?

Yes and no.
You can level up entirely through PvP.
But then there's also MPvE

what if you hate PvP?
can you avoid it and still have an interesting time?

Yes, but you'll need some real people to play with.

you mean like people in real life? or people like meat popsicles? can you find them through the game UI, or do I have to find them through chat.SE?

There is matchmaking. So you don't actually have to talk people into playing with you.

11:02 PM
@MichaelFrank oh, good :D
I like matchmaking; I'm bad at making a case for myself
I should move to India and change my race... somehow... and have someone adopt me as their son so I can participate in the arranged marriage system
would be nice, he

Surely there's a reality TV show idea in there somewhere...

so that's how I'll make my millions!
O WAIT. Destiny has NO PC port?
screw you, Bungie/Microsoft/Activision!
sorry, not buying a console
"console".substr(0,2) == "con" -- that says it all
oh, ok. March 2015 PC release.
that's not delayed at all :D
it'll be old hat by then

@allquixotic They have a 10 year plan for the game (franchise by that stage?).

10-year? nice
pretty cool

If you think about it, Halo has been around for a good amount of time.

11:09 PM
'course, by the time it's through year 1, I'll be addicted to Star Citizen...

I keep getting emails about SC... I still haven't tried out any of the 'modules' that have been released.

I have. They don't support CrossFireX yet, so it lags a lot on my box. >:(

I guess my GTX 560Ti will have little chance of playing it then. .__.

It will, I think... they just haven't optimized it yet

@allquixotic yeah. I mean, why else would people buy consoles?

11:20 PM
@JourneymanGeek because... cookies?

@allquixotic or perhaps because they hate cookies. ;p

The PC is a better, more flexible gaming platform

@JourneymanGeek except that you don't write a game "for PC"; you have to write it for every different prominent graphics driver (including compatibility fixes for drivers dating back several months for people who don't update), and for several generations of hardware, and (to be complete) for two different operating systems at the very least (Linux and Windows)
when you write a game for Xbox One, you write a game for Xbox One -- there's no "well, if it's this, you have to code it this way..." crap

True
Or you write or buy an engine that does all that and is cross platform anyway

11:27 PM
an engine alone doesn't account for the entire game; you also need a patcher or updater, integration with the shop (Steam, etc); platform-specific input devices; etc
even the best cross-platform solutions aren't just "push a button and you have a Linux port!"

It's so hard trying to talk to someone about a problem you're having with their hardware/software when all their replies are like this:

"If you donr fin the date you want in onw place, look in the others and remeber to check all the Cell Managers as they are point in time refernce VMS"

11:54 PM
hm. I mistyped my password

You also mistyped mistyped.

Bob
@allquixotic Until recently here there was no such thing as positive history.
