hi guys, I was wondering, how do I find my newly-purchased laptop's Windows 8 product key? I can't seem to find the one specified in windows activation with any of the online tools, like belarc advisor or produkey.

I can't actually see the whole activation key in windows 8, but it does show the last 5 digits, and those are different to the one shown in belarc advisor or produkey, which both apparently show a generic Windows 8 key.

@ErraticFox I have an asus laptop, so is there any way you could be more specific?

If you have Windows 8 pre-installed in a Windows 8 notebook, you can just put in your Windows 8 disk and reinstall it, and the BIOS will supply the key to the installation

@think123 I heard there were some programs that could, but I don't know if they're reliable or not. Why do you want to remove the key from the notebook? You can't legally transfer it to another system

I open this file into the simple notepad where i would usually do such editing, and it is a bloody mess. pastebin.com/vqHgZEVm Now i paste it there and it is wonderfull just like i want. What very simple and small editor program would display it in such format AND keep anything from changing , so i dont break it when altering it some? One person used XMLSPY but that is $999 sooo not going there :-)

Q: How to extract Win 8 OEM key embedded in the BIOS?

I did a fresh install of Win 8 on my PC, I was told the OEM product key will automatically supplied in the installtion. However, it did not happen in my case... this is the method i used to install Windows 8. Now im stuck with an unregistered Win 8. I'm wondering, now, if there's a way to extract...

In that case, I'd use the option to CALL MS and explain to them. I'm sure you're not the first to run into this, but it seems odd it'd ask for a key again
