@TRiG I've been away for quite some time due to work schedule. So I just popped in earlier to say hi to whoever was here

@BruceAlderman Nice. I've always wondered. Of course you could just butter both sides of a single slice of toast.

Q: Working for (non-Jewish) religious organizations

wonderingjewIs there anything in Jewish law restricting Jews from working for other religious organizations? Some examples: can a Jew work as a receptionist at a Mosque? As a gym teacher at a Catholic school? As a professor at a Mormon university? etc.

I asked this question a while ago. It seems even the Muslims don't agree on what they believe.

Q: Does the Quran urge persecution of the infidel?

fredsbendThere is much misinformation revolving around the violent persons in the middle east who claim to be Islam and some even claim that they are doing what Allah wants. Can their actions be justified by what is written in the Quran? Are there parts in the Quran that urge the Muslim to hurt, cheat, l...

@fredsbend Same with lying

Q: According to al-Qurʾān or al-ʾaḥādīṯ, is it permissible for a Muslim to lie under any circumstance?

H3br3wHamm3r81According to al-Qurʾān or al-ʾaḥādīṯ, is it permissible for a Muslim to lie under any circumstance? If so, under what circumstance may a Muslim lie?

Basically, no lying unless you really need to...

@LCIII Well, I understand that there will be different viewpoints, but none of the answers on my question are any good and really break down what is going on and why American's might have the impression that the Quran teaches and encourages oppression to force converts.
The question was conjured by my late Grandfather years ago, who was a Fox News kind of guy.
He asked me once about five years ago (cuz he knew I study religion): "Doesn't the Quran teach that they should persecute and kill the infidel?"
I said I don't know, but I also said if it was a really clear topic in the Quran then they would quote the relevant verses.
@LCIII There's only one answer on that question. Mine has five and they are all 0 score or less with at least 1 vote each.
I think the question you linked was answered well.

@fredsbend Yeah, what I meant by "same" was their ambiguous justification for their deeds
I'm bringing people together, therefore lying is OK

I'd actually be more interested in another Fox News trope: Muslims must religiously stick to the law in the Quran, except when dealing with Infidels. There are different rules that are much more lax, which includes lying.

I'm at war with so-and-so, therefore I can kill them

8:34 PM
@LCIII I'm not sure that is ambiguous as much as it is a part of human nature. Unity is a very strong motivator for all kinds of action.
@LCIII This is just the nature of war.
The one that got me was "to please your wife".

haha yes
"You look beautiful today"

That makes a lot of ... thoughts I could spit out.
Whenever looking at these questions I have to remind myself that I am nearly completely ignorant of Islam, both religiously and culturally.
So when I ask a question I can't even compare it to previous knowledge.
Like I mentioned before, my only knowledge about Muslims and persecution was indirect and from Fox News.

You've inspired me to ask a question

If there's a word for "1000 times more than dubious" that's what this is.
@LCIII Link when you're done.

Q: What should the Hijab for Muslim women cover?

shoehadaI'm asking this since there's a range of "coverage" that we see in Muslim women, from the niqab which covers everything except for the eyes to a headscarf that covers just the head and not the neck/chest area, and other variations.

I was gonna ask what the quranic justification is for the hijab/scarf and why it's so variated
the answer isn't great but the question is the same

8:48 PM
@LCIII Three things really stand out in that quoted verse.
First, the mention of so many relatives. It's kind of weird. Why not just say "strangers".
Second, "male servants free of physical needs". Does that mean eunuch or married?
Third, and the worst, "the shame of sex". I hate the way many religions approach sex.
