I'D LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THE SHAMELESS STAR GRABBER EVENT!
3
It's that time of year again when the snow falls and good tidings are wished upon all mankind.
But more importantly, we commit to even more time on the SE network to earn goofy hats (because the rep and badges weren't enough).
So here's the deal this time: we have to star eight (8) user in chat.

"You star me, I star you."
So how 'bout it? Say something even marginally pithy so I don't feel like I'm totally cheating the system.

Oh, look, I've found my hat!

The name Amy means beloved. A user named Amy Loveless.
Not sure what that means.

This is super interesting avout Swaddling Cloth and what was signifigant about it anciently from an artist that depicted what it more closely would have resembled. jenedypaige.com/gallery/little-lambAmy Loveless 54 mins ago

@TRiG Yeah. I flagged it for deletion too.
It was originally an answer.

For those of you wondering, I've determined the fascinating hat is voting related. Not sure exactly, but I think perhaps be the first to vote on a post, or maybe vote on an old zero score post.
I'm still trying to figure out warm welcome.

11:56 AM
I figured it out. It's too easy so I'll let you all figure it out yourselves.

Q: Is there a problem 'wearing' a virtual Saint Lucia hat?

user6641Is there any issur, perhaps related to lo teileichu b'hukat hagoyim, in 'wearing' a virtual hat which celebrates Saint Lucia day?

Hm. It's not as if it's forced on people.

@fredsbend I figured out the Fascinating hat immediately because it came from ELL, where I voted on only one thread...

Is my question poorly worded or something?

Q: Why did Daniel have to pray towards Jerusalem, even at the cost of his own life?

LCIIIAfter Darius signed a decree which said that anyone praying to any god but Darius should be thrown into the Lion's den, Daniel goes and prays anyway. Daniel 6:10-11 ESV When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open towa...

This more or less blew me away the first time I read the passage and I feel like no one is sharing my sentiments.

Q: which came first heaven and earth or language and air?

TonyaIn genesis 1:1 it says that God created the heaven and earth my understanding has been that he spoke it all into exsistance. However later it says God said let there be light. So my question is did God make air and language before all else?

@LCIII I'm a little surprised by the downvotes.

Or Hell and fire or Jesus and water?

@LCIII I don't see a problem with it of the sort you're assuming there is. The prohibition wasn't on praying in some particular direction; it was on praying to someone besides Darius. Daniel would have been violating the law no matter what.

@LCIII: Only a guess... maybe your asking "why did he have to" rather than simply "why did he" is attracting negative attention? shrug

@MattGutting I know Darius' decree didn't care which direction a person prayed--only to whom they prayed. And Daniel knew that praying with the window open would get him caught. For some reason Daniel felt that praying to Jerusalem with the window open was worth the Lion's den--that's what I'm wondering. I feel like the fact that I have to explain means I didn't word it well.

It's obvious, though, from the story that we're intended to know that Daniel would get caught regardless; and perhaps he knew that. Maybe he was ...
saying not "praying to Jerusalem with the window open is worth the lions", but "praying to God is worth the lions, and I'm just going to emphasize it in this way."

I don't think we're intended to believe that there was anything more than that. And I don't see that there was.

The story has always struck me as a case of civil disobedience. Darius was duped by his advisers, as a trap designed for Daniel. Daniel knew this. Darius's advisers knew this. Darius didn't realize the full implication.
