> Bard's Tale IV

wut
@Yuuki That is a campaign setting, for the Numenera RPG

Bleurgh, my default thinking mode is "video game".

Bards Tale IV, it's something Inxile is making. They made some other kickstarter favorites like Wasteland 2.

@Yuuki Well the Numenera CRPG is based on the Numenera TTRPG
@MadMAxJr Oh I know what Bard's Tale is. I wasn't aware there was a II and a III, let alone a IV in the works. Wasteland 2 was awesome.
The Bard's Tale PS2/PC game was awesome, one of the best written video games I've ever played.

Q: What's our stance on Piracy?

the dark wandererRelated: What's our policy with answers advocating piracy (accidentally or not)? Links to "D&D Tools" / dndtools.eu and similar sites So, I posted the question Why do Crawford's tweets seem to be treated on par with the actual rules? , and got an excellent answer. That answer, in part, address...

@TheOracle burn it with fire

8:04 PM
Somewhat misleading question title. It's really about how do we handle people who say something that implies that they pirated material, rather than supplying links to pirated content.

8:41 PM
@Adam yeah, didn't catch that my first read through
basically, we dont' want the site to look like it encourages piracy

Pretty much.
I mean, we're sort of saying "We'd rather you didn't, we don't want you to, but if you do, don't tell anybody about it."

the interesting thing is that the dnd books are EXPLICITLY known for not being available via pdf, cause WotC doesn't understand pdfs

Maybe with D&D Beyond, they'll start shedding that reputation

@Adam I've been hoping that with their new CEO WotC would stop failing so much when it comes to their digital products. So far D&D Beyond seems to be looking good, so I'm hopeful for the future.

@diego Is there really a D&D Beyond in the irons?

8:56 PM
Will it come with a fancy Batsuit?

@Zachiel Yes. It's an online compendium of all of the 5th edition materials
currently It's in open beta with the SRD content freely available

(Meanwhile I'm still watching at high level characters battle against other similarly high powered characters. The amount of goods thy're using is huge, and I'm desperate because I know I will not buy any single of those items because I hate consumables. How can I pretend to be up to the task?)

@Zachiel yeah, the preview trailer looks pretty sweet, but we've only got a subsection fo the content right now
and what they have is kinda meh
and the fact that they haven't released any info on how paying for the system is going to cost, people are pretty hesitent
basically, they really needed to wow us, and on day 1 they did not

@DForck42 I was thinking about a new Next, a new D&D6 playtest, not... this thing
"Beyond" looked like a pun on "Next" to be honest

They just released Tales from The Yawning Portal I believe. I would be up in arms if they announced a new edition now :p

9:05 PM
@Zachiel ahh. it's too early for a new system already
they haven't even printed a DMG II yet ;-)

I wonder what D&D 6e will look like...

@Adam Maybe it's because I'm a crazy millennial, but I prefer having to pay a small subscription to access all the materials online when they come out to having to spend $40-60 on each hardcover they release.

@Adam they've only released 12 books so far
@Yuuki different people see it many ways. some like having the physical books at the table and use the digital tool at home, others vice versa, some don't want electronics at the table, etc etc etc

@DForck42 I mean, I do like having physical books but half the time, I'm not even aware of what hardcovers are out.
And I don't know which hardcover I might use more than another.

Google knows so much about my life, it never fails to alert me when new D&D material is coming out

9:10 PM
@Yuuki well, the nice thing that they're doing with 5e is that they're not doing splat books, so having more than just the phb isn't a hard requirement to build a character
you COULD get volo's the SCAG, and the element evil player's companion pdf, but the core races and classes are signifigantly more solid than days of yore
when 4e came out, the phb felt a bit weak, tbh

I got Volo's but because of the monsters and the sweet cover. Not for the races

I haven't felt like that at all with the phb in 5e

Who's the better D&D 3.5e players here?
Help... HELP... I'm panicking T_T

@Zachiel lol, most def not me
but I do have a little 3.5 experience, and I'm in a campaign currently

Apparently the more I level the more I will find things that I need to have responses for. The damn spell that makes all my equip nonmagical if I don't avoid it ç_ç
I just want to buff up and charge at things

9:15 PM
@Zachiel ...what?

@GreySage Mordenkainen's Disjunction!

What class/level are you?

Clr 18 / Ftr 1
Hideously underequipped because I want to get the most value from my gold pieces

@Zachiel yeah, and 3.5 is HEAVILY dependent on magical equipment

Yes, yes, I knew that but I believed I could just fake it with cleric spells
apparently, being able to get a quick action counterspell, or having contingencies to avoid nukes is also necessary.

9:19 PM
@Zachiel Do you have any reason to expect an enemy to use this spell?
Also, all your gear/magic effects get saving throws to resist being disjuntioned, so you could buff your save with gear/spells before hand
Since you gear uses your save if it's higher than its own (and it should be, after 18 levels of cleric)

@GreySage It has been used against a different party (we're multiple parties of varied levels in the same world) and even if the DM used it only because he knew that party had responses... I don't want to be playing an easier game, it would feel humiliating.
@GreySage The spell does not mention a save for items, just for buffs.

@Zachiel "each permanent magic item must make a successful Will save or be turned into a normal item. An item in a creature’s possession uses its own Will save bonus or its possessor’s Will save bonus, whichever is higher."
Maybe I'm looking at the wrong version of the spell

@Zachiel build your character the way you want your character. if you buff and kill, then make that your character
let the player that's going to play the coutner game worry about countering stuff

@GreySage Ah, I got it in reverse, it's the buffs that get no save.
@DForck42 If I don't counter, there won't be much of me around when it comes to killing enemies.

@Zachiel ehh

9:35 PM
What are you doing at 19th level anyways?
Aren't you quasi-gods by the point?

@Yuuki ahh, but then there are epic levels

Note that whoever casts this spell also dispells all their own buffs/effects. They don't need to save for their equipment, but you can prepare for that by having a high save (will save buffing effects and equipment will help you, even if they are lost after the spell)
So all their protections will also be gone, leaving them open to you smashing them in the face with your mace
Even high level wizards tend not to be very physically intimidating

@BESW Notice how that bookmark is my be? Oh, the irony.
@GreySage They're not going to aim the area over themselves, are they?

9:51 PM
@Zachiel 1) Don't fight a wizard on an open plain. 2) If you're really paranoid: Tower Shield, it blocks line of effect, which effectively negates the spell for you

@Yuuki Our level cap is at 33, but we banned epic spells and a lot of other material, and the premise of the game is a bit different than the usual human-centipede-party D&D game (we're in a persistent world. My character, at level 19, is fighting armies of undead with other people while two epic characters are facing two epic necromancers on a plane where no divination is possible, and then an avatar of Velsharoon.)

@Zachiel so... yes

At level 19, I feel very-not-quasi-god. I feel like I'm doing marginally worse than a barbarian my level, while having some energy immunities up that are no much use when nothing can protect me from force damage and high level dispel magic spells

> 3.5 had more than enough broken things, we didn't have to make up new ones. You can be an unarmed anthropomorphic baleen whale swordsage/kensai with the Vow of Poverty. No one is going to outcheese that with homebrew.

@Yuuki It would be so nice if that was true.

10:27 PM
People using miracles to ask for the intervention of the avatar of her God. People asking with a miracle to recover all of their spell slots.
All things I would never do.
How can I hope to show to the others that I'm a cleric if I don't want to spend resources in order to show his power to the world? T_T

> Bread of Many Knives. Cut a slice off this bread, and it becomes a dagger, shortsword, longsword, or greatsword (your choice). A loaf contains 1d4 + 20 slices.

@Zachiel Are there allowed/banned materials?
Also, is there a specific reason you didn't go into any PrCs?

@HeyIcanchan I did the best I could with the Mars question.

If the @ ping doesn't autocomplete, they won't get the notification.

> Had a wand of disintegration in our game.
Our wiz was not happy when he engaged a giant snake at level 2, proudly and confidently waved the wand only to have it disintegrate in his hands.

10:41 PM
hey there @KorvinStarmast

11:21 PM
@Zachiel I think part of the problem with using D&D in a PW is the tempo of the adventuring day gets thrown off (either that, or you have to replenish resources on something other than a (long, in 5e) rest, pretty much across the board)

11:38 PM
hey there @ThomasWard

@Shalvenay derp hi!

how're things going?

they're okay
for the most part

OK here
wondering how dragons keep themselves from becoming too buggy (literally) to fly (bug splats make wing not work so well)

@Shalvenay magic.

11:41 PM
Cat-like tongue-based hygiene.

and magic.

@ThomasWard How else can they reach all those hard-to-get places?

@BESW haha, that was the mental image that was in my mind too

@BESW I'd say "Chaos", but the real answer is magic... ...or something else that I can't safely state here.

"Magic" in the Your Highness sense?
Not sure that's a clip I can safely link here.

11:51 PM
hey there @Karelzarath

@Shalvenay Hello, your eelness.

hahaha :D how're things going?

Poorly, but the chaps upstairs sprang for bratwurst and beers, so it's better than it could be.

@Karelzarath With sauerkraut?

@Miniman A large number of fixin's. I mostly went with brown mustard since the sauerkraut wasn't that good.

11:53 PM
@Shalvenay we bathe in lava for that :P

@trogdor haha :D as long as it works

lol

@Karelzarath :( I mean, I love mustard, but a brat just doesn't seem complete with sauerkraut, yanno?

@Miniman Agreed, but I've been spoiled by Britt's Pickles in Pike Place. Nothing else is quite the same.

the only real ones I have ever had were at a place here called Mckrauts
if I am even spelling that correctly
they were pretty great though

11:59 PM
hey there @nitsua60

It's McKraut's, regardless of how Paula spells it.
(Their new sign's spacing is admittedly ambiguous, but the old sign when I lived down there was clearer.)
