Welp. That killed the chat :/

I think it was already dead

8:15 AM
So, Orphan Black episode titles make for great band names.
"Certain Agony of the Battlefield," "Insolvent Phantom of Tomorrow," "Things Which Have Never Yet Been Done," "Variations Under Domestication..."

I am not sure I ever noticed that

The first season's titles are lines from Darwin's On the Origin of Species; the second season is from Sir Francis Bacon; the third season is from the farewell address of Eisenhower.

8:33 AM
wow
I don't typically check that kind of thing

mumble... I was wondering. How does the dice bot work? it is made by SE right?

Yep

@Miniman so that is how it manages to have actual image background in the message.

@SPArchaeologist Yeah, it's hard-coded into our chatrooms

ok, my hopes were crushed once again. I hoped there was some obscure way to hack inline images in a chat message
oneboxed image and text side by side.
But then I guess I will have to live with ascii art connect4

9:04 AM
...today I learned about CanCon and MAPL.

1 hour later…
10:05 AM
in the meantime, somewhere else... the great Tavern Spam Hunt had started again

@BESW Hmm. I like how any sort of legal definition always spirals into a fractal of subdefinitions. "CanCan is content written/recorded/performed by a Canadian. A Canadian is a citizen/resident/person whose ordinary place of residence is Canada. An "ordinary place of residence" is..." and so on.
It's definitions all the way down.

10:22 AM
@lisardggY google.com/…

10:44 AM
@lisardggY "I know a Canadian when I see one."

1 hour later…
11:53 AM
Oof. I feel like Jubel Early. "Welp...here I am."

@sillyputty I couldn't work out who you were talking about for a moment...you mean Jubal Early :P

I do, in fact! Thanks. =)

12:08 PM
Good morning

Ben
@Miniman @doppelgreener Queensander!! :P

@Ben Er...huh?

Ben
@Miniman Where do you live?

@Ben Australia.

Ben
I take it not in QLD or NSW?

12:16 PM
I prefer not to be specific, but skipping to the point, what am I missing?

Ben
State of Origin, Football game
not familiar with it?

Ok, I probably should have gotten that. My lapse was caused solely by not giving any kind of crap about it :P

Ben
@Miniman Fair shot haha

12:39 PM
I can't believe I got into a RAW/RAI discussion over in the C# chat room.

good morning
my neck is killing me today

12:56 PM
@DavidReeve Preemptively kill it back!

@Ben \o/
That was one hell of a game.

1:15 PM
(I am on the Queenslander side of it too XD)

Oh, I just found these I meant to share!

On one hand, I'm glad that I got a Guru badge and a pile of points. On the other hand, I'm a little sad that now 4 of my top 5 answers are 5th edition, despite having only played like 10 sessions.

eh, it's the new hotness, lots of points there right now

I know, I just wish that the number of updoots I got was proportional with how much I like my own answer.

:)

5:14 PM
Heh. Updoot.

Imgur is leaking

5:31 PM
rpg.stackexchange.com/q/64514/14649 Every group I've ever gamed with would be delighted about nipping a threat in the bud, not disappointed they missed out on a much harder fight.

5:53 PM
@DrewS Seems like more a DM issue. Just cause your original didn't pan out doesn't mean you can use sea monsters anyway.

@Aaron Agreed. I think it represents a mindset I find completely foreign though, wanting to stay on the rails.

6:10 PM
Our group is very bad at the "stay on the rails" mindset. We have an entire campaign going right now where our characters will literally hear the first option presented to them in every situation and go "yep, that's the one" cause they have short attention spans. Our GM still doesn't keep us on rails, even though he could conceivably string us along to any encounter he wanted.

lol

Q: Legal Question (or "Why not just direct them to a lawyer?")

Wesley ObenshainWe've had a number of different legal questions about RPG publication over the years, and by and large, I think the answers are pretty good. The problem is that most of us aren't copyright lawyers and case law, precedents, changing understandings of the law, and other things can lead to completel...

@TheOracle Dupe?

me thinks so

high fives
@doppelgreener Indeed it was! Some very Impressive plays :)

high fives @Ben
Heeeyyy

Ben
How's it going

Can someone look at a question and offer advice?
Just got home from work, yourself?
Debating on more Terraria or planning for Friday. Probably the second, then the first.

Ben
Just got to work haha
@Codeacula How do you mean?

10:08 PM
I had an answer accepted originally
Then later I revisited it, did more research, and realized I think I was wrong
So I put the update at the top, fully expecting it to be changed later
Now, there's the new answer at the top, and the old answer with a lot of text below it
Should I continue to leave the old answer there because that's what was accepted?
Should I have answered a second time (is that possible?)

If your new answer is substantially different from the old one, then yes, make it a second entry entirely.

Can I reanswer with the new one, or just leave it was it is?
Because it's a yes or no answer, and I did one first, then the other

Yes, reanswer with the new one. Make a new, second answer. You can do that.

Alrighty

Q: Is a Dragonwrought Kobold a True Dragon?

KRyanThe Monster Manual refers to some creatures with the Dragon type as “True Dragons,” and some later books refer to True Dragon status as a prerequisite for various options. Races of the Dragon offers the Dragonwrought feat, available to 1st-level Kobolds. The feat changes the Kobold’s type to Dra...

see this case for example
KRyan asks a complex question
Creates a very thorough answer
Later decides his answer is probably wrong, makes a second answer saying so, but leaves it up to voting as well.

10:12 PM
Ahhh, ok

Ben
@doppelgreener [upvotes]

Now, I added my changed answer back in Jan, though, and I think got upvotes for it? Should I worry? I don't want to seem like I'm trying to be evil or something

@Codeacula Your changed answer shouldn't be of the format "It's A. / Old version: It's B." anyway

I agree
:D

A: Don't signal your edits in text

doppelgreenerPeople come here with questions (often from Google) to find answers. They shouldn't have to sort through a pile of "Edit", "Edit 2" amendments to work out what the answer is. There should be a straightforward question, and a straightforward answer. Consider the case of an answer saying something...

so technically your answer should be changed just on that principle alone XD

10:14 PM
Ok. I'll make the change, and hope I get flogged for it

but it's probably better to leave the old version there
and take the new version into a new answer

I will
I'll reanswer

than delete the old version a bunch of people had already voted for
cool :D

Should I note why I'm doing this in the answer?
Or just put in the answer
Oh, wait
You linked the thing

10:18 PM

Dammit
Sorry, @Pixie, I forgot to ask :(
I was super busy trying to sort out our next project and getting tests started

@Codeacula That's fine! No worries. :)

I will try tomorrow

I'm surprised I'm even around this evening and not slumbering like the dead. :P
(My sticky keys had originally rendered that "slumbering like the dad," which is pretty similar in extremity, really.)
I was scrolling and for a split second interpreted this in a literal, real life context...

Q: How does one become a god?

Invader ZimHow does one become a deity? I read Deities and Demigods, but some things are either not explained or not mentioned at all. Do you have to get a blessing from a god with 20+ divinity? Can you achieve ascendancy with a lot of worshipers? (Let's say a million.) Can you ascend if you kill a god? I...

Ben
10:24 PM
@BESW badum tss

It's simple: Kill a God.

Ben
@Codeacula Be Kratos?

@Codeacula I'm imagining the Joker saying this to a committee of gangsters.

Now I'm going to have to watch The Dark Knight

Ben
@Codeacula You sound upset at this idea

10:28 PM
I was going to get work done

Morning!

@Miniman Good morning!

Ben
@Codeacula And so instead you have to watch Batman. Damn.
What a cruel world is this :P

@Ben Maybe I can wait until later. The only problem is that it's hard to make excellent characters when you're watching one
I gotta make Shan Yu still!

Ben
@Codeacula Ahhh. That kind of work. Well in that case I can see the issue haha

10:33 PM
Whee, I just bought the Humble Bundle of game creation stuff. Had the latest RPG Maker and a lot of other things too. Now I can proceed to play around and never finish a game all over again. :D

Yay!

I wish I still had the "games" my little sisters and I made in RPG Maker 2003 yeeeears ago. xD

Ben
@Pixie I remember those days. Building side scrollers and fiddling around with sprites with no idea of what I was doing. Ahh... good times

Or maybe it was 2000 we used, or both. I can't recall. But at one point I had like a trilogy of games "planned" out, which consisted of characters, titles, and a short summary of each. xD

@BESW The stars have stuck around, not sure if that's fixable.

Just refresh.

Huh, learn something new every day.

Ben
So, how did the dragon breathing unicorn science turn out?
I phased out. Had other things happening
@Pixie you were doing that weren't you

@Ben Yup. I stayed up entirely too late doing it and other things, too. :P I think 6 is the ideal setting for it. A little more coherent but still bizarre.
If you saw the Pastebin, that's about it. xD

Ben
10:55 PM
@Pixie Well it's the science behind formulating a unicorn from a dragon's breath. I think "bizzare" is about right :P
@Pixie Ah fair enough. I copied the link and had a squiz at it, but I didn't read through it properly. Again - had other things on haha

11:23 PM
@Pixie Did you mention the Story for Steven episode to me recently?
I know you told me to brace for one of the Steven Universe episodes, though I can't remember which

@doppelgreener It wasn't Story for Steven, it was We Need to Talk.
But they are similar episodes, both are Greg flashbacks.

Story for Steven was too short
but I liked it.

Greg flashbacks are good flashbacks.

Garnet and Rose both seem to have the same taking-your-weird-stuff-totally-seriously thing going on.

But We Need to Talk reveals a little more about Rose as a character. It humanizes her more.

11:37 PM
That is great. :)

Yeah. :)
She's this pervasive background presence in the series, and people put her on a pedestal (cough Pearl cough), but she had stuff to work through too, she had things that were hard for her to figure out too... it's nice to see that.
Pearl's issues also become more evident in recent episodes. At the beginning they were things that could have been played off as lighthearted over-exaggeration, but they've developed her character to the point that, no, Pearl has problems and it's getting harder for her to hold it together. But it's done in a good way, a way that addresses the fact that they are problems and makes you think, "Pearl is hurting, and I want her to grow and get better."

@Pixie Aw ;_;
yeah at the beginning of the series her schtick was just being bossy, but I do see the beginnings of these things changing
@Pixie I can see how this episode would be so impactful then. I will probably not be braced for this at all.

My boyfriend always felt uncomfortable about Pearl because his parents are similar in some ways and it's not a good way to grow up. At first, again, because it was mostly exaggerated and played for laughs in the same way the other gems' parental failings have been, I understood his perspective but wasn't sure the series was going for that. I did think, though, that she was bound for a breakdown.
As things develop, I see that the series is absolutely going for that, and addressing it, which has endeared him to her much more.

@Pixie ;u;

@doppelgreener Heh, yeah... it's a good episode though.

11:49 PM
It is sad to see it going there but I cannot wait to see how it gets dealt with and who she comes out as on the other side.

Sworn to the Sword lays Pearl really bare, both her deep pain and the harmful ways in which she is currently dealing with it.
We've seen it before in the spaceship episode and the... lion garden sword place episode.

I remember there's an episode where Steven and Pearl head to Rose's armory together. And, I think, in the same one she runs away to spend some time alone?

@doppelgreener That's the one I'm talking about, I think, which I decribed as "lion garden sword place." :P

Oh wow, there's one going deeper than that? ;_;

She gets caught up in things she wants but can't have, can't let things go, and instead of dealing with a reality she doesn't like healthily, she adopts policies of self-sacrifice and hyper-vigilance while simultaneously trying to distance or ignore perceived threats. And she just doesn't know what to do with herself, so she doesn't deal with things until they overwhelm her. That's my take on it, anyway.
And she masks her fears with outward overconfidence.
@doppelgreener Yeah. It hammers some things home.
