For the record I didn't vote to close it, just asked for a tag, because it does seem like answers can be given without knowing the exact system. But I love that "we could tag this with any of three systems!" means it doesn't need to be tagged with one of them.
> <You cannot hide from the people who love and respect you forever, Master> Syra says softly. <You cannot stop us from admiring you and seeking to emulate you.>
@BESW I did, it's missing a tag. This could be GURPS or something else for all we know. Probably D&D, would rather know the exact edition being used if so.
@BESW The dungeons-and-dragons tag was always pretty ridiculous. While the whole undead/necromancy/evil thing carries across, the question wants a specific method of dealing with a problem
The odds of a 4e solution working in a 2e game are...slim.
Specifically, this one: How should I handle the rest of my party, who believe all Necromancy must be evil?
There is no other rpg system that I am aware of that uses those terms - '9th level' 'wizard' 'necromancy being automatically evil' 'Good, Evil, Neutral' 'Alignments' 'knowledge skill' 'rank...
That's Jack's rhetorical style; I don't think he can help it.
There was some drama in chat a few months ago asking him to be less insulting and sarcastic because it made people uncomfortable. It wound up with him choosing to leave the chat permanently instead.
Oh, yeah, he's not gonna listen to a single thing anyone says if they're a person who's locked horns with him previously. Which means mod responses are for the rest of the community, not him.
It's pretty reasonable you're annoyed. One of your fellow players secretly plotted to kill your character for revenge (and it worked), the DM - the one guy you pretty much have to be able to trust - was in on it, and your fellow players offered you no emotional support at a point when you clearly...
He's in the realm of cynical hypotheticals now, so he can modify the proposed situation and the imaginary user to counter any opposition. There is literally no point which can be made.
@Miniman Naw, it's just incompatibility with our ethos. In some of his (now deleted) answers, he appeared to dislike using a computer keyboard in the first place (preferring handwriting), which might explain his attitude toward putting in extra effort to make his post look nice - that'd be extra difficult for someone who already finds using a keyboard difficult.
He brought it up, we discussed it, he may have decided this site was not for him, and it probably isn't.
@BESW that's what my comment was about, though you're right there's no point to discussing that with him at the moment.
Lots of people here have had their first question closed.
@Miniman oh, yeah, i get that was sarcasm, but he didn't leave our site because of downvotes and closures - in fact he appeared to be steadfastly determined to leave answers and ask questions regardless.
@BESW well, that was a common troll who is now banned for an entire year. we'd already found that out by the time we needed to summon mjolnir of mods for stizzle.
The kid's father was the marine captain, and based on the ages given he had the kid at age 15 and became a captain with less than four years in the service.
@Miniman there is a special kind of subtle glee i experience when i see someone doing something like that
because they think they're tickling the dragon's tail, and instead Thor himself will traverse the Bifrost and bring down mjolnir with the force of a meteor upon them.
and I just get to be the audience to such a cosmological event.
In many cases discussions about balance in 3.5 will, inevitably, involve one side or another invoking an anecdote of the time they fought this monster, or a member of that class, and they didn't suffer the problem being illustrated in the discussion at hand. In many cases it seems like these anec...
In the Dungeon Master's Basic Rules, one of the monsters that was featured is Animated Armor. I was disappointed that they did not address the possibility of intelligent animated armor attempting to lure a PC into trying to wear it and then taking control of said PC. So when I brought home my shi...
Good questions raised here should hit the main site too! Fudge...
Darmok and Jalad were enemies who, stranded on an island (Tanagra), worked together to defeat a monster which threatened them both. In the process they became friends.
Now it enters the mind-bending phase of: "find users where this is true for the first question they asked".............. which might be beyond my SQL-writing abilities
@Miniman Select user ID as user link (if you write as [User Link] that turns it into a magic link), and select the Post ID for their first post which got closed (as [Post Link] is another magic link for this)
Oh, also, in addition to this being their first question, it also has to be the case that they subsequently went on to ask another, or provide answers.
So they must have another post following this one, after the close date. If you're up for that challenge, hahaha.
i wonder what data we need to put that into perspective.
number of users with multiple posts?
number of users with only one?
there's a lot of users who are also drive-bys: one question, then they're gone, and sometimes people complain about them not even accepting an answer in the process.
these people just typically ask a question then do absolutely nothing else.
we could therefore find users who asked one question, got closed, then stopped doing anything, but what can we do to distinguish them from drive-bys?
can we compare it to people who asked one question, which got closed, and had further activity but no further posts?
Trying to make conclusions from those figures... 60% of users are "read-only" 20% are answerers but not askers 23% are "drive-bys" (question or answer) 10% are "drive by" questioners 3% had first question closed 2% had first question closed _and came back_
This is a question concerning 2 different rituals and if they work in conjunction with one another, namely, Transfer Magic and Enchant Magic Item.
If I understand the reading of the spells correctly, Transfer Magic lets you transfer the properties, powers and enhancements associated with an item...
Anyways, glad I could put my black magic SQL abilities to work for the good of the community. Let me know if you want any more and I'll happily give it a go, but right now it's time to go home.
I'm not familiar with 4e, but I'd say the "Enchant Magic Item changes a normal item into a magical item of equal or lower level to you" means the total item level. Either that or it just doesn't work if the starting item isn't "normal"
I don't have access to the Compendium so I can't be a lot of help, as 4e is super-legalistic and I'd need the exact wording.
If I'm reading the question right, though, it sounds like you're trying to double up the properties of Magic Armor and Dark Majesty enchantments on a single item?
You can't have two enchantments on one item in 4e. No how, no way, nuh-uh, nada, taya, no enchilada, the big en oh, diddly squat, good day sir.
The main purpose Transfer Magic is that if you pick up cloth armour with an enchant your rogue wants, he doesn't have to wear cloth to get that benefit.
@BESW sounds like you might be able to leave an answer after all [wink wink troll-strength nudge followed by sincere apologies and offers to provide medical assistance]
Ah thanks, I didn't assume the effect was copied, I was more curious if the item that was originally level 0 armor could receive the enchantment from the armor and the. Be enchanted, seems to not be the case! Thanks for the response!
man, it still bothers me when something i wrote gets a downvote, even though it doesn't mean anything / doesn't really matter
namely that meta question about whether to keep the 'the' in wod tags names - i have my own concern that it's so trivial it's hardly worth mentioning, but it is there, so i might as well, and then i get a downvote so my brain goes "someone thought it was trivial! they're right! aaaa"
Well, Ace Attorney was just a comparison. I'd like to see an RPG that focuses on politics the same way Ace Attorney focuses on law - over-the-top, ignoring all the boring paper-pushing.
But granted, politics does involve a fair amount of bloodsucking.
So My GF has the stereotypical view of "bronies" I tried to explain that not all of them are creepy but I had a hard time explaining it. How do you explain it when people ask you?
She was asking why so many people on this chat seemed to be bronies
It has excellent animation, voice acting, writers, and musicians, interesting characters and plots, and John de Lancie as a guest villain parodying Q from ST:TNG. It's about candy-colored ponies, and that's certainly not for everybody. But "because it's for little girls" is as bad a reason to avoid it as "because it's for little boys" would be for a girl to avoid watching any of the 80s and 90s TV shows that have permeated our popular culture.
@JoshuaAslanSmith For that reason I have Italian workers doing some work in the apartment next door, starting at 7 in the morning. The entrance of which sadly lies next to my open window...
(And there's a common misunderstanding she might be having: generally "bronies" like the current Friendship is Magic TV show, and consider the previous MLP shows, pre-Friendship is Magic, to be just as bad as everyone thinks. It's a particular TV show I enjoy, not the franchise as a whole.)
(For a more extreme example, it's like thinking the Adam West Batman show was too campy and kid-focused for Batman: The Animated Series to possibly be worthy of adult attention. Except, yanno, with social drama instead of punching people.)
Tablet of Spell Tracking: this flat, squarish lump of an unfamiliar material is solid black on one face and has a couple buttons on the side. It lights up when the buttons are properly manipulated, and presents strange symbols which change as you gesture over them. With a successful Arcana check (DC 25) you know how to use the Tablet, storing and accessing information about your spellcasting ability on its glowing surface.
Further Arcana checks may reveal greater uses for the Tablet, but each attempt forces a Will save (DC 10, +2 for every previous use that day). Failure targets you with the effect of an enthrall spell (CL 20).
I just looked at the prone question again because of your edits, everytime I think of the party proning and then dog piling on the one prone enemy I think of Ceasers assination and just a lot of dudes knifing another dude
that's part of why the spell cards for 5e appeal to me. Fewer reasons no to than 4e because there are only 2 calcs that are needed. No death by 1000 papercuts bonuses
League of Legends is a game where you assemble a team of 5 characters to battle in 3 lanes of minion armies, and the player base will tell you constantly you are doing it wrong, you are killing our team, you are the reason why we need to surrender.
@MadMAxJr same reason SCII does, its a game enough people play that they would watch the streams/tournaments
I follow a guy called OddOne whos not anywhere near top tier pro, but he has good advice and funny commentary and his stream has adverts for PC related stuff as it goes on
@besw so can an ongoing scene have multiple conflicts?
