6:01 PM
Just a pet peeve of mine, sorry. :)

@Tridus I did that with dragonhide mountain plate in 3.5
The character also had a ridiculously low Str of 6.
Antimagic field: trapped in his own armor XD

lol
a player of mine did that for a while, and I was going to do that to him
then he joined the millitary
current Druid in the game is wearing light armor, so they're safe :D
wow, new badge. I can't believe how many up votes that dice answer got
so fast

hot questions list
low bar for comprehension

that. is. ridiculous
42 votes???

still sitting at the top
and whaddya know, Eric Lippert shows up to chime in
2

6:09 PM
I don't think I'll ever understand the way people decide when/what to vote for on this site
@waxeagle ?

@Phil I know. I mean, it's cool because it's my answer
but I don't think it's the best answer I've ever given on the site
and it got voted up like crazy
I don't mind, but I don't understand. :)

@waxeagle That must be it. It's probably also widely applicable to a lot of games.

the key factor is that anyone with 200 rep anywhere on the network can show up on any site in the network and automatically be able to upvote
so it pops into the hot questions list, people look at it and it seems interesting, they follow the link, they vote for a couple of answers and...rep factory
(til you cap)

@waxeagle That makes sense.

6:14 PM
(Lippert used to work for MS, he's a C# god)

Oy
I guess that's what we get for being at the top of the hot questions list

flagged as spam, flagged as not an answer. u_u

I feel bad for the mods on stuff like that, given that they have to clean it up

@Tridus But the reason they became mods is presumably because they care about the quality of the site, and keeping it clean comes as part of the package

@Tridus it's pretty easy, click user id, click mod, click destroy user.
auto deletes their posts

6:54 PM
@Phil Yeah, absolutely.

7:53 PM
Eric Lippert answered a LotR question over on Movies.SE a while back. Was also cool to see him pop up.

8:19 PM
> three halberd attacks (counting it as your main weapon, so you get your full number of attacks), one armor spike attack, four longsword attacks, two quarterstaff attacks, two striking horseshoe attacks, one gore, one sting, four tentacles, and one revolver shot in a full action.

1 hour later…
9:40 PM
hey everyone

hey

theres some good sys ang questions that have come up today and over the weekend
I definitely need to get an answer in if I can unfortunately slaving away on grad school homework
@waxeagle how have you been with the snow this past week?

@JoshuaAslanSmith was finally able to go back to work on Friday..kids were both out of school though (public schools cancelled, daycare didn't get power back until probably early Friday morning so they had to call it)

yeah, at least it was more than 2" shutting us down for 4 days

9:48 PM
yeah one of the benefits of living in the city itself is the fact that power never really goes out, the web is so overlapping and if it does go out its back in hours due to number of people affected

3 weeks ago it was so cold that <2" was enough to knock out 3.5 days of school

@JoshuaAslanSmith yeah, and most big cities use buried infrastructure

I live about a country block from a substation so if my power goes, it's coming back quick

9:50 PM
honestly bread and milk shortages due to silly tradition are the biggest results of most storms in the city itself
thats good
its always nice to be close to core infrastructure

yeah. Though, speaking as a parent with kids, running out of bread/milk would be a problem in my house :)

do you have a backup generator?

I don't. It's on the list of things to get soonish
unfortunately that list is long

yes I understand I havent had milk in the house that ive drunk in a few years and my wife is paleo so bread is a treat
gotcha
if/when I move to austin and buy a place that place is gonna be a redoubt as much as my wife will allow me to make it

yeah, we're not too concerned for the most part. Our weather can get dicey sometimes, but generally it's pretty good. Nothing too extreme
Austin though...stock up on water...that place has been dry as dust for a few years now

9:59 PM
yep I mean ideally if we live outside of city limits I an have the space to have all sorts of goods stockpiled in a storage shed.

10:20 PM
Just need a shed full of TacBac. thinkgeek.com/product/c399

10:30 PM
smh no, though I would buy a small but good amount of MREs since their shelf life is good, they have caloric density out the wazoo (aka less space required) and they do not in fact taste that bad

Always wondered exactly what goes into an MRE
Been running a zombie apocalypse game for ages where its pretty much all the characters eat, but never really looked into what they are

About 2000 calories of food stored in tons of preservatives.
Some kits have interesting components. There's a ham slab MRE that has a water activated chemical cooker.
Oh, 1,200 calories.

Still loads

10:52 PM
@madmaxjr @phil all mres have a water activated chemical cooker (military)
sometimes the civilian ones made by other companies or ones given to civilians do not because you can make a pressure bomb very easily out of a few of them
the whole goal of the MRE is not only that it is shelf stable but that it is a hot meal available anywhere anytime
and as madmaxjr states 1 packet/meal contains all the calories youd need for a normal person in a day, soldiers get 2-3 per day when deployed and eat them and lose weight simply because they are still burning more calories than they are taking in (constant strenuous physical activity)

cool, thanks for the info :o)

11:10 PM
@besw thats super cool
@phil if you have any other questions about them feel free to ask I' was in Army ROTC for a few years and have first hand experience and also bothered to research the history of combat rations and how they have improved over the last century because military history is a hobby of mine
