Guys, there is no point in arguing. The license simply is unsuitable for many things. There is a reason why we have the LPPL. Unfortunately, nobody ever gets properly tought about license stuff. Even the teachers in school take stuff from the net and redistribute it without caring, because they don't know.

@marmot Been there, done that. Not worth the while. As @Alan said, there are other alternatives. Sometimes it's time to say good bye and declare a package officially obsolete. But this is just my opinion. The maintainer(s) might have a different idea.

TeXmaker version is completely irrelevant. Your installation of TeX Live or MikTeX matters.

I am still running TeX Live 2017, which is a bit out of date by now. But i don't get any errors. It works flawlessly.

Welcome to TeX.SX. I am not quite sure what you are doing. Does that error appear with the template as downloaded? Or did you do some changes before? Where does the bibbliography come into play?
