Q: Is apkmirror.com safe?

DavidIs it safe to download and install Google Play from apkmirror.com? How can I check this is a safe download? Backstory: I had to factory reset my original Samsung Galaxy Tab as it refused to start up. After the reset, I haven't been able to update Google Play. Every time I try, it crashes with '...

We do have a question about APKMirror
Dec 8, 2016 16:41
@Izzy I'm sure "Bmdixon approved it" would meet the same response though ;)
Dec 8, 2016 16:40
@Izzy I can vouch for APKMirror.com for all that too. I've not used APKPure.com myself though.

@DanHulme Am i right in thinking that we shouldn't just approve edits like this? I seem to remember being told not to as we can't see the details to be sure that the user is the same as the OP?
Aug 26, 2016 14:18
I think they've managed to create 2 accounts
Aug 26, 2016 13:21
Can you get your friend to try generating an App password (security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords) and use that instead when logging in? It might be an issue with the two factor authentication? They can revoke the password later.
Aug 26, 2016 13:18
i'm not sure, sorry
Aug 26, 2016 13:14
ah, ok... i'm not sure what else to suggest then.
Aug 26, 2016 13:13
That might help if you they can't log in to your phone (depending on the device you have)

Q: How to bypass "Verify your account" (Factory Reset Protection)

kurtau22I won a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, signed into it with my Google account, played around with it, wiped it, and sold it. Now the person can't get past setup because it's saying he must login with an account previously synced to the phone. Is there anything I can do from my side to remove this lock...

Aug 26, 2016 13:12
I think you'll need your friend to login to the phone and then remove their account from the phone. That should remove the factory reset protection
Aug 26, 2016 13:10
specifically the 'Verify your ownership after factory reset' part?
Aug 26, 2016 13:10
@Nearoo Does this help at all support.google.com/nexus/answer/6172890

Jun 23, 2016 15:15

A: How can I change the homepage in my browser?

MyrddinIf you're using one of the Mozilla browsers, Firefox or SeaMonkey, an easy way to go about it is to have open the page you'd like to be your homepage then, Open the settings up. In SeaMonkey it's under Edit (at top of your window) then you'll see Preferences down below in the list. It will ope...

Is my comment wrong on this answer? The answer has had 2 upvotes despite appearing to describe how to change the homepage on a browser for Windows....
Jun 10, 2016 09:14
If you remove the first sentence it would have nothing to do with building an app
Jun 10, 2016 09:13
Yeah, i thought the same. It's asked from a developers POV but it's not about how develop a solution to the problem
Jun 2, 2016 09:04
Ok. I'll vote to close linking to one of them, but reference the other in a comment too
Jun 2, 2016 08:52
@DanHulme There's a new question about this... which is our preferred duplicate?
Jun 2, 2016 07:11
Apologies, the edits were mine. I will avoid making such edits in future. I didn't consider the fact that i was invalidating a lot of comments/the answer.
May 25, 2016 15:04
@DanHulme They should still be able to accept the answer though
May 25, 2016 10:36
@AndrewT. From Izzys answer: "Only vote to migrate there if you're active on the other end (and know it is acceptable). Otherwise, rather vote to close as off-topic, as you would now." I guess as i'm not active over there i should/would still vote to close as off topic
May 25, 2016 10:31
ok, i'll put one together later
May 25, 2016 10:30
I did wonder if it might need more detail... but still think we could do with a migration path in the 'close' panel
May 25, 2016 10:28
Is there any movement on getting a migration path to Software Recommendations now it's out of beta? Seems like this android.stackexchange.com/questions/145747/… could do with being moved?
May 20, 2016 14:03
will take another 30 years (at my current rate)... plus he has to get 0 rep in that time...
May 20, 2016 14:02
lol no worries :) I'm still a little way off catching up with Izzy but one day.... ;)
May 20, 2016 13:43
Wooo! Just noticed i've finally reached 6K rep :)
May 20, 2016 10:01
i think we probably have questions/answers to cover most (if not all) aspects of what the OP is asking

Q: Backup/Restore SMS/MMS via ADB on a non-rooted device?

IzzyIs there any way to backup/restore SMS and MMS messages using ADB, when the device is not rooted? adb pull won't work here, as the corresponding database (/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db) cannot be read by ADB if it's not running in insecure (root) mode adb shell ...
