@Hilmar Thanks for checking! Now the question is whether the HR person who contacted me used the same name as an existing employee at the company, or did they make a fictional LinkedIn profile? linkedin.com/in/billie-patterson-438632133
Nov 10, 2023 09:35
The HR contact's email address is "[email protected]".

@Adeptus Ah, that explains why there are no TOR books for sale on the Cubicle 7 website. (And also noticed no Lone Wolf rpg merchandise either.)

There's also the old MERP rpg supplement, Bree and the Barrowdowns, but since MERP takes place centuries before LOTR, there is no iconic Prancing Pony.
Nov 6, 2022 05:12
Are there any The One Ring players here? Trying to find the Bree supplement but no luck on the Cubicle 7 website, Amazon, or ebay.

It must be popular, I can't find a single copy for sale.

Although for a few bucks I'm a sucker for good artwork. Also found David Graffam's paper building models can spice up a game: davesgames.net
Nov 22, 2020 02:34
Homemade is the way to go.
Nov 22, 2020 02:27
Cool, thanks for the gnome print & fold tip. BTW the PrintableHeroes artwork is beautiful, don't know if I'll ever want to go back to lead or plastic minis.
Nov 22, 2020 02:23
@BESW Oh yea, even cheaper than buying plastic bases. Just replace the gnome art with whatever monsters you're playing (unless you're running a gnome campaign).
Nov 22, 2020 02:08
Good evening (or good day) - does anyone here use paper miniatures (like One Monk or PrintableHeroes) in their fantasy rpgs? Do you prefer bases with a slot, like the LITKO 20 mm bases with the slightly curved slot? Or are bases with a clip preferable to keep the mini standing upright?

I just saw this story: https://www.geeknative.com/79415/midnight-legacy-of-darkness-confirmed-for-dd-5e/

Very exciting, I've always wanted to play in the Midnight D&D setting although it is a very bleak world.
Jun 22, 2020 04:27
Oh ok, related to the public/private keys in cryptography.
Jun 22, 2020 04:26
Understood, thx
Jun 22, 2020 04:25
Ah OK - what does that mean? Do the rpg.net people need to update their security software?
Jun 22, 2020 04:19
Greetings everyone!

Question: when I try to navigate to rpg.net in either Chrome or MS Edge I'm seeing a "Your connection is not private" warning. Does anyone else see that? Maybe I need to update my antivirus software?

Alas, the dream ended before I could find out which character Donald Trump played. But it does give me an idea for a new character class: the BS Artist :-)
Aug 12, 2019 17:22
Does anyone dream about playing D&D when you're asleep? I had a weird dream the other night where I was describing my campaign world to a bunch of players at a table. Strangely, one of the players was Donald Trump.
Jun 26, 2019 00:00
Hmm Quietus looks intriguing - would have to be in the right mood to play it.
Jun 25, 2019 23:57
Hey Shalvenay!
Jun 25, 2019 23:53
Looks like a souped up Roll20. Not sure how it will work - do players all login to Talespire on a server maintained by Bouncyrock?
Jun 25, 2019 23:49
Just read about this Kickstarter campaign: kickstarter.com/projects/bouncyrock/talespire
Jun 14, 2019 15:35
@MageintheBarrel I think the DMG has rules on homebrewed spells that don't unbalance the game.
Jun 14, 2019 15:26
Trivia question: Name the films and TV shows that have depicted people playing D&D (or less specifically any fantasy rpg).
Jun 14, 2019 15:22
Wow I was way off, ha ha
Jun 14, 2019 15:21
I read somewhere that Amazon is going to produce a D&D movie.
Jun 14, 2019 15:21
Yes two movies from the 90s I think. But they weren't very good.
Jun 14, 2019 15:05
Yes, my first thought was: this could be a new series on Netflix or HBO, but on 2nd thought we're already getting a D&D movie sometime soon.
Jun 14, 2019 15:01
Ug on my phone, hold on . . .
Jun 14, 2019 15:00
@KorvinStarmast speaking of cars, did anyone see the Brazilian car ad with live action actors portraying the old D&D cartoon from the 80s?
Jun 14, 2019 14:57
That's it, yes it's a joke, ha!
Jun 14, 2019 14:55
Yep
Jun 14, 2019 14:54
Greetings - an article showed up on my Google news feed that D&D will be changing its name. The article was posted on a website called meeplemountain.com but I can't open the link. Did anyone else see this? Maybe it's junk n

@NautArch That sounds right - Twilight 2000 1st edition was published in 1984, with later versions in 1990 & 1993.

GM to players: "Ok, you guys are getting hungry, where are you going to find food?" Player to GM as he stows cooler filled soda, twinkies and chips under floorboards. "Don't worry, it's taken care of . . "

@tbrookside Possibly Vader's Force powers degrade as he ages? Or the Emperor somehow placed a "governor" on Vader's powers to keep him under his thumb.

Hard to say if Barrett's refusal to recuse herself from settling the next election indicates support or opposition to Trump. After all both Biden and Barrett share the same faith.
Oct 20, 2020 19:26
@SimonRichter Lack of experience is a good point. Although to be honest other Supreme Court justices have lacked extensive experience in appellate courts - for example Justice Elena Kagan.

May 27, 2020 20:35
A great follow up question would be why the verb "do" has sneaked into the phrase "I don't have a car". The speaker isn't doing anything, so why isn't "I haven't a car" considered more correct?

Which subject are you teaching? Is class discussion & questions dominated by the male students? Perhaps the female students feel intimidated?

Pre-reorg I was doing data analysis (I'm a statistician), post-reorg I was assigned non-data analysis duties (more like a business analyst).
Nov 15, 2019 16:05
@JoeStrazzere Yes, agreed. Having an adversarial relationship between employer and employee is no way to do business. When you spend 40+ hours of your life at a company, there needs to be an explicit contract that takes into account reorgs. Otherwise you have employees quitting, moving on to another company, quitting, moving on . . . and not building up a skillset at one employer (which is better for employer, employee, and our economy in general). Worse, some of those who stay behind may develop a passive-aggressive attitude about their work & you get a toxic work environment.
Nov 15, 2019 16:05
@JoeStrazzere I think it's one of those cases where everything is terrific until it isn't, and you realize your rights are being trampled. Yes I have discussed with my supervisor, to his credit he said he wants me to be happy & said I ought to look at other positions in the company. Which raises the question why perform the reorg in the first place?
Nov 15, 2019 16:05
@JoeStrazzere Yes, there was a reorg at my company and my job duties changed.
Nov 15, 2019 16:05
@joeqwerty That doesn't make any sense. That would mean I could be hired to do task A and then be assigned to do task B instead. Or conversely, I could define my own job duties as I see fit.
Nov 15, 2019 16:05
@joeqwerty Yes I received an offer letter that stated salary and job duties, which I'm assuming is the de facto employment contract.

Performance considerations aside, this sounds like a toxic workplace environment to me - the OP should consider finding another job. I'm currently at a job (for Cigna) where the culture is quite different. Programming manuals & documentation are readily available for self-help, but more importantly if we're really stuck there is a designated "go-to" co-worker (not our supervisor) with 20+ years experience who will answer any questions we have. No resentment because part of his job is to be an uncritical resource (plus he's a nice guy of course).

@AkselA There is a species of scorpion native to Czech Republic: Euscorpius carpathicus (see ntnu.no/ub/scorpion-files/e_carpathicus.htm)

Jun 1, 2018 14:04
The next question: Could the faces of a 7-sided die like the one in the OP's post be differentially weighted to make it a balanced die? I suppose one simple fix would be to layer stickers on some faces to add weight.

@ceejayoz Wow - interesting numbers on fatality rates by profession. Perhaps we should be taking time to thank loggers, fishermen, and truck drivers for doing what they do.
