@TomJNowell I don't know where the insult is seen. Don't know what one's role on a platform has to do with responding to a question. Moderators are supposed to be impartial, if the implication is that if one is insulted, they will try to change how a user interacts with the site, that is wrong, and not befitting of the role. I wasn't looking for support. As stated, I was looking for an answer from someone who has seen this issue before. I can do my only research/analysis.

Whatever will get the problem solved, or almost anything, I am willing to do. I am not able to get access to the files for reasons that are beyond scope of this discussion. I presume it is hosted, but not sure. I have provided the info requested about what is in the HTML rendered on the page, and it's associated CSS, here - wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/397507/…
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
I have not ever had to the chance to enter the password on this brand new page.
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
@TomJNowell A bit pedantic, but if I have to not state I believe the issue relates to the theme (because I have read as such on the internet), and get into conversations with people to then mention I am using a 3rd party theme later, so be it. Question edited.
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
@TomJNowell - Sorry, should mention I am aware of what CSS is, and what it is capable of. No div for password prompt present using Inspect in Chrome. There is however page contents (both on screen and in Inspect in Chrome) that should be hidden if there is css to hide the password prompt (to my understanding; If this is incorrect it isn't really protection against showing the content ;) ). Apologies for my typo. Where I said twentytwentyfour, I meant twentytwenty)
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
I don't have any access to the underlying wordpress files, root or not. I am hence not aware what Linux group they belong to, so dropped in root to be a catchall, not specifically needing it. I don't see any downvotes, nor am I aware of what edits are needed to make something you say is off topic (a theme in Wordpress), to be on topic. Given though themes in Wordpress seem to handle some functionality outside of visual aspects, I still find it strange that they are completely banned being posted about. I find it akin to Windows control panel being off topic on a Windows help site.
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
@TomJNowell - Wouldn't hiding the field with CSS not show the content, as it currently does, but a blank part of the page where the content is? I have no ability to install a unmodified WP on this same server, but deactivating all plugins and switching to TwentyTwentyfour didn't resolve the issue. Swapping out those folders is helpful to know, but not possible given the ramifications of it being unavailable while root level access is acquired to the server to restore them. Sorry, can't provide an example, as the page is to be non-viewable by the public. Any other way we can address this?
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
No modifications to those files to my knowledge, though there is shared management of the site. It does say it is password protected when I edit the page. Given this question seems to imply themes play into core functionality of Wordpress, I am surprised that they have been deemed off topic.
Nov 1, 2021 21:39
@TomJNowell - No, as mentioned it doesn't work in the standard wordpress theme either.

Thanks for you help!

We wanted a way to monitor this, and not click and wait while it takes an indeterminate amount of time to parse every folder and file. That framework would also be helpful for cases where non-inherited permissions are desired for a large number of folders.
May 8, 2017 21:47
That actually makes more sense to me due to what I understand is required by a very low level rename operation, but don't believe it should be that way,
May 8, 2017 21:45
I return back to my "Silly MS" point. No doubt others have struck this and wasted time working it out.
May 8, 2017 21:44
Same
May 8, 2017 21:44
Explicitly, yes, not having Explorer probing the permissions to temporarily change the permissions, then back again.
May 8, 2017 21:42
What on earth. That does work, but WHY!?!

Ah, this is just a proof of principle. The actual permissions need to be applied to 1000's of folders that I need to create script for.
May 8, 2017 21:16
Apart from the Administrator line, exactly the same.
May 8, 2017 21:15
Why exactly can't I use my own account? I have an admin login to go and wipe it away when testing is done. My account has the same permissions in your answer, so regardless of the extra ability to change permissions (which as far as I am aware has to be explicitly changed, not done as a function of creating files, folders, renaming, etc) it should operate as intended, and it does (can't delete folders, create files in parent, etc) only that new folders (without renaming) can be created.
May 8, 2017 21:01
I only put the Change Permissions rights in there as I am using my account to test this, and was trying not to login as another account to change permissions post the initial change for testing. I would be troubled if that right changed the ability to rename or create folders.
May 8, 2017 20:50
Ah! Silly MS. Can't make the window bigger to show in one screenshot the effective permissions for the user either. The ticked lines are however: Traverse folder / execute file, List folder / read data, Read attributes, Read extended attributes, Read permissions, Change permissions.
May 8, 2017 20:45
That was I was meaning by the "wish there was a single GUI...". The screenshot will only show the user and the 2 Allow, and 1 Deny permission and what they apply to, not the actual permissions. Still interested?
May 8, 2017 20:21
The user in question should not be able to create anything in the "Two" directory.
May 8, 2017 20:19
By following those settings (wish there was a single GUI screen where I can show one all the settings in a single screenshot) the only thing that differs from the stated result, is the ability to go (as one way to create a new folder) right-click -> New -> Folder and it will create "New Folder" (or append it with (n) if already existing) in the "Two" folder, but will not let that user rename it.

Hi

Sep 13, 2013 15:54
Yeah, I have other things that should probably be done now also. Will check back in later to see your comments on my comment :)
Sep 13, 2013 15:52
Ah, understand now. So, to the wording of the comment ;)
Sep 13, 2013 15:49
Sure. But what did I do to cause your comment on this subject?
Sep 13, 2013 15:45
More the latter (by your wording); What do you mean about replying to my own comments?
Sep 13, 2013 15:41
I will try and remember to screenshot it, next time it appears :s
Sep 13, 2013 15:41
Oh, this has been my experience...
Sep 13, 2013 15:41
Just think that there shouldn't be a suggestion to comment, if the vote is supposed to be more weighing.
Sep 13, 2013 15:40
@stuffe Cool.
Sep 13, 2013 15:40
Then why suggest someone also comment after voting?
Sep 13, 2013 15:39
How about "To whom downvote minorgod's answer - Was this because of what @Django Reinhardt ?may be been suggesting? that it wasn't "discontinued", but instead Apple ceased support on May 9, 2012?"
Sep 13, 2013 15:35
"This sounds stupid, but..." - I agree. Surprised someone hasn't suggested a link to do this is also provided, not after x number of comments by the same person.
Sep 13, 2013 15:34
@stuffe - So was just wondering if you could supply my comment, to be tweaked, and reposted. Perhaps I should run my intended wording past you also?
Sep 13, 2013 15:29
Unfortunately I have actually never done this myself. If I could ask you to create a room with as much of the above as seems appropriate migrated in there, that would be appreciated (A link to instructions would also be good ;)
Sep 13, 2013 15:29
"as it's a site wide request that isn't particularly AD specific" - Agree. Will do; Interesting comments about anonymous voting, doesn't the system suggest you should comment after downvoting (I do realise that this is a little more abstract than how what-I-did was taken)? Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I am the kind of person who doesn't like to do things twice - Could I ask for a copy of my wording here, so I can c&p (and reword) into a new answer comment?
Sep 13, 2013 15:29
Seems the intent of my comment was mistaken. I wanted to suggest that why ?they? downvoted the answer (If indeed was them, otherwise I would have then expected both our comments to be deleted) was stated, because I thought they may be suggesting that the date in the answer was wrong, but given the limited wording I wasn't sure.
Sep 13, 2013 15:29
Also, before I write up a "Please consider (at least) giving authors access to their deleted comments" meta question, if for no other reason that people could go crazy wondering if their crazy ;) (But it is also nice to have something to show for sometimes some time typing, i.m.o) has it already been suggested?

Aug 24, 2013 05:18
Anyways, why can't we just agree to disagree? I thank-you for pointing me to the meta post on comment deletion (I agree with user826788 and quite a few other participants), for no other reason as it clearly shows that there is a decent amount of people on both sides of the fence on this subject. If this is truly a community site, then each member of the communities opinion should be taken into consideration, and not given the "this is the way it works, and always will" line, I feel.
Aug 24, 2013 05:18
Also, I find your offer to explain to me about a site I have been using for a few years now, a tad belittling.
Aug 24, 2013 05:16
@Jefromi - First - I am quite aware of the purpose behind the @ tagging.
Aug 23, 2013 02:44
Then again, wouldn't it be cool if deleted comments ended up somewhere like chat automatically.
Aug 23, 2013 02:44
Instead of discussing our differing opinions further, I will just thank-you for your time and say I appreciate "I'll try and be more proactive about moving discussions on your posts to meta in the future". As an aside - I have been meaning to develop a FF extension to backup all content I add to the web (Contact us forms in particular, considering how often it is helpful to refer back to the wording, etc used). Hopefully this event will push it up the priority list somewhat.
