Where smoke is detected, diamonds are made, and we break thing...
Jan 24 19:19
@Cow thank you! Me too! :D
Jan 24 19:13
And apologies for my tardy responses, cracked ribs and codein doing their thing =D
Jan 24 19:12
@JeffSchaller Cheers.
Jan 24 18:48
@JeffSchaller I'll have a look at the source code (it's not mine, got it of a link in close-vote-reviewers on Stack Overflow). If I can't figure it out I won't use it again. My apologies.
Jan 24 18:41
@Cow ta :)
Jan 24 18:41
@JeffSchaller Sorry, maybe the close-vote script that I installed for SO (and which also shows up in questions on Unix&Linux) uses the wrong tooling; I didn't think I was flagging stuff in the sense of using a mod-flag.

!!/report unix.stackexchange.com/q/790056 "Off Topic"
Jan 1, 2021 23:48
If that's not dealt with by tomorrow I'll revisit and custom-flag.

I commented using your template.

Thank you very much for your guidance @IanCampbell

Heh

/me holds his horses till the seniors have finished discussing ...
Jan 1, 2021 23:40
@IanCampbell OK, will do.
Jan 1, 2021 23:37
@cigien - sure ... here you go
Jan 1, 2021 23:35
If someone posts useful answers, all of which seem to include a link to their own github project (they don't mention they're the author, but it's obvious since their gihub user nickname matches the SO one), is that to be considered spam? I only noticed because they resurrected old questions within 15 minutes of each other....

Oct 16, 2024 01:27
That's a sizeable number ... wonder how many reports they've receiced.
Oct 12, 2024 20:22
Cheers @bmike - looks good! I really hope Apple sorts this out quickly. While Mac might not be the most common machines in corporate environments, there must be enough of them around considering the existence of JAMF and the intune-integration.
Oct 11, 2024 17:29
@bmike @bmike - it occurred twice in two independent terminal sessions at different times; after that I stopped using the more complex invocation because it doesn't add value. Whether this classifies as repeatable I'm not sure.
Oct 9, 2024 19:07
@jaume 's comments have disappeared, but having tried his suggestion I got disconnected w/ a different error message :D ssh_dispatch_run_fatal: Connection to x.y.z210 port 22: message authentication code incorrect
Oct 8, 2024 18:56
@bmike - I never had 15.0 - went straight from 14.7.2 (I think) to 15.01 ... before we forced to switch from JAMF to intune (fiscal reasons, we're a poor not-for-profit) we had a hold on major release upgrades till they hit a x.2 =} ... intune apparently still has teething problems
Oct 8, 2024 02:24
@MarcWilson - could well be the sociolect of my employer/colleagues; I was told Command = Splat when I was handed my Mac, have been calling it that for 10+ years now =} The asterisk is called aster around here.
Oct 8, 2024 02:24
Fair enough @bmike - there was only one other post with ssh and sequoia, but that dude's problems only had to do w/ name resolution and nothing with ssh.
Oct 8, 2024 02:24
@Giacomo1968 "Splat" is a colloquialism for the "Command" key.
Oct 8, 2024 02:24
@bmike - good question; our Macs get maintained remotely by a service provider via intune. I know they have MS Defender running, which will be watching/intercepting network traffic. We also have Huntress installed. But everything was working fine before the update.

@prosfilaes - is it actually the "cost of the flight" driving this, or the desired profit margin? I'll freely admit that I have no idea what it costs to operate an aircraft, but I always wonder how much of the cost could be reduced if the airlines (or its stock holders) had slightly less financial gain. And I can't imagine airlines working on a break-even basis as charitable institutions.

Yes
Sep 30, 2023 21:13
If you're curious which categories aptitude supports, do an apt-get source aptitude and then look at aptitude-0.8.12/src/loggers.h ... ;)
Sep 30, 2023 21:12
Maybe there was no info output to be had.
Sep 30, 2023 21:11
And good on yah ...
Sep 30, 2023 21:11
And I did some more digging because the fact that none but the two levels mentioned in the man-page are documented anywhere ...
Sep 30, 2023 20:59
That is correct indeed.
Sep 30, 2023 20:41
@Digger - I've edited my post, there's now a walk-through at the bottom.
Sep 30, 2023 20:19
Scroll down to facilities linuxjournal.com/article/5476 ... unfortunately the nomenclature between different linux tools is not consistent.
Sep 30, 2023 20:03
@Digger And if the solution offered answers that, feel free to accept ...
Sep 30, 2023 20:03
And just to be perfectly clear: @Digger don't use /var/log/aptitude with the --log-file=<file> flag, pick a different name!
Sep 30, 2023 20:03
@Digger If you expected to find warnings in /var/log/aptitude you clearly haven't read all of the above .. upping the log-level will make output on stderr more garrulous, but never log to that file. Out of curiosity: which problem are you trying to solve by writing these to a log file?
Sep 30, 2023 20:03
Wrong file. Scroll to the bottom of the man-page, check the FILES section. What made you think that sources.list was the right place for that, @Digger ?
