Is there a third option or remaining with the company in your current position, perhaps with a raise? - Serious technical expertise, particularly engineers who span multiple areas or disciplines (development AND operations is a popular one these days) is much harder to find than a decent manager, it's not unusual that the former have higher salary than the latter.

Perhaps you could try using aliased interfaces, but I've no idea if it will work. Why on earth would you want to do that? :P
Roy
Mar 24, 2013 14:56
@Bruce You want a repeater bridge on a single interface?
Roy

That way, the answer may benefit other users in the future :)

On my frankfurt vps.net server, the IPv6 tunnel only adds about 1 ms latency
Roy
Mar 24, 2013 14:41
Oh, I guess they might not have IPv6, but you could always work with a tunnel

Now, the default configuration of the network-manager integrated dnsmasq is to cache 150 entries in accordance with their respective TTL settings. @jdthood appears to think otherwise, which is fine by me, but I'd like my answer to show my understanding of the issue :p

A: What is my DNS server?

RoyYou are using dnsmasq, a lightweight forwarding DNS server that runs locally under the control of NetworkManager. Dnsmasq forwards DNS queries to the DNS servers whose addresses have been provided by the DHCP server. It is also possible to set these DNS server addresses statically using the Conne...

Q: VLAN configuration on Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop

RoyWhat is the correct way of configuring virtual LAN interfaces (hopefully without messing up Network Manager) on Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop? Simply adding the interface to /etc/network/interfaces seems to cause Network Manager some confusion: auto vlan500 iface vlan500 inet static ... ... vlan_raw_dev...

Compared to $300k for ODA fully licensed
Roy
Mar 25, 2013 18:45
Only takes 13 of those XL RDS instances to compete with 1 ODA. That's only $250,000 per year.

Still only two questions tagged oracle-database-appliance though. Could the appliance really be so easy to use that it raises no questions? :s
Roy
Mar 25, 2013 18:40
@ypercube Aye, and only one concerning Oracle. I guess Oracle RDS isn't exactly mainstream :)
Roy
Mar 25, 2013 18:15

Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:27
Just wondering if there was something about that question that made it exempt from the general rule about shopping lists
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:25
@MarkStorey-Smith Ayway, my question was about that particular question, and why it has been around for a year when it very much looks like it is a violation of site policy.
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:22
@MarkStorey-Smith I'm just not sure that product references tied to use cases are any more opinionated than any other "how may I accomplish this" kind of question. :)
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:16
@MarkStorey-Smith Same might be true for a solution to any given problem and SE is entirely based on user opinions
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:13
@MarkStorey-Smith Not entirely sure I see why book, software or other product references can't be just as factual (or not) as any other aspect of the site.
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 10:10
@MarkStorey-Smith Won't community moderation/voting take care of both problems?
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 08:43
But then I don't make policies around here, just trying to understand them :)
Roy
Jan 24, 2013 08:43
I agree, like I said in my comment on there; "Personally I find these kinds of questions both interesting and useful, as they may share valuable insight into relevant products and use cases"

Although, if you give devs the solution for free, they're only gonna be back with more work for you. Might just throw them the problem query and let them sort it out. :P
