Is there anyone who'd be interested in stepping up to run in an election?

Q: Moderation on Tezos: We need candidates to step up for an election

RosieIt is Stack Exchange's stance that every site needs to have a team of moderators in order to continue existing on the network. We have over 170 sites on SE; participation, the frequency of new questions asked, etc. varies from site to site. However, as long as a site has some activity and members...

Hi I'm Rosie, one of the Community Managers at Stack Overflow. I unfroze this chat room because I had posted last week about the moderators on the site being inactive and not logging on in quite some time. In order for this community to continue running, we need eligible community members who are willing to step up in an election.

@mickmackusa one of our developers looked into this and the reason your superpings weren't going through is because superpings don't work in multiline messages. If you try again and just use a space after each chat user you superping vs a new line it should hopefully work

The permissions look correct on my end
Apr 25, 2022 12:32
Ahh thank you. I'm going to check with the other CMs to see if they can spot the issue.
Apr 25, 2022 12:31
@mickmackusa I'm sorry I'm in a lot of meetings this week so there will be a lag in my responding. Can you link me to the public room you were messaging them in so I can see if something is off in the permissions?

@DavidW that's an excellent choice

Six year old me would have picked Starlight from Rainbow Brite. I'm trying to think what my answer is today though.

On the recommendation of @AncientSwordRage I'm posing a question I asked in a different chatroom: "Which fantastical horse do you wish was real?"

Happy Friday. I'm excited that @davidgo has thrown their hat into the ring. Elections need to have at least two candidates in order to move into the voting stage. Voting is scheduled to start at 20:00 UTC on Monday. If there are no other candidates by then we will extend nominations by an additional week to see if anyone comes forward. If you are eligible to run and interested in helping the community out I encourage you to consider nominating yourself.
Aug 25, 2021 13:20
That's great. I did add a comment to the questionnaire post since I'm unable to edit the post itself to point people to the nominations page so hopefully that helps. I also submitted a bug ticket.
Aug 25, 2021 12:17
@dan We've already moved on to the nomination phase so we can't pause that now. If we do not get at least a second nominee this week we will extend the nomination period by a week. If any of you know have community members you feel would make great moderators I would suggest outreaching to them and encouraging them to apply.
Aug 25, 2021 12:12
@StephenOstermiller there seems to be a bug that is preventing me from editing that post. I think it has to do with the election automations. I'm going to file a bug ticket but unfortunately I can't edit the tags or the text right now.

@curious thank you. That's so cool. One of my favorite accounts on social media is NYPD Bees which is the police officer in New York whose function is to respond to reports of bee swarms in NYC.

@BryanKrause thank you. There is an audubon society and a wetlands/bird preserve near me. My friend also volunteers with a wonderful wild birds rescue org and it just dawned on me that they'd be a great resource too.
Jul 27, 2021 19:42
Wanted to ask in chat because it feels off topic to post on the site but does anyone have any resources they'd recommend to a lay person interested in beefing up their knowledge around Ornithology? It's been an area of fascination since youth. Thanks

Hi. I'm curious if anyone has tried some new beers this season that they'd recommend for summer gatherings.

Jul 26, 2021 20:29
Yeah we have some roasts I go to here. I've had things shipped from the West Coast in the states but same it's hit or miss in terms of freshness.
Jul 26, 2021 20:07
I do the same thing with smaller packs in the freezer. I also love El Salvadorian blends. Cafe Grumpy and Gorilla Coffee which are both based in NYC have great ones.

I use a French Press for the most part and I think you and I mentioned we have the same Encore grinder. Ironically enough my partner loves the smell of coffee but can't stand the taste so I am a solo coffee drinker in my house
Jul 26, 2021 19:51
nice do you have any favorites that you would recommend?
Jul 26, 2021 19:43
@JJJ nice, I have a fair trade single origin from Bali on deck and a Brazilian blend with notes of cashew and fig coming up after that
Jul 26, 2021 18:38
Hi everyone. I've had some fun participating in some questions on Coffee SE last week. Internal at SO we have a slack channel for the coffee fans where we ask what we're drinking this week. I just finished a pound of Espresso blend from Mad Cap out of Grand Rapids MI. What is everyone else drinking this week?

On a different note just as a head's up. I'm OOO today and tomorrow with limited access to being online. This won't impact the election. JNat will be posting tomorrow when voting has concluded.
Apr 26, 2021 14:39
@SafdarFaisal you would want to post on the Meta site for chem chemistry.meta.stackexchange.com requesting for an article to be added or updated if you feel something needs to be added or edited in the Help Center. The request would get reviewed and if there was something that needed to be added to Help Center a CM would make those updates.
Apr 13, 2021 13:53
@NikeDattani I'm not the CM working on the Freelancing election. For an election to run on a graduated site there need to be at least one more nominee than there are open moderator slots. Since there are two moderator slots for this election there needs to be at least three qualified nominees which is why the nomination period was extended by one week.
Apr 5, 2021 20:52
Thanks @NikeDattani. Welcome everyone. Thanks to everyone who asked such great questions for the Q&As. I hope some of you will consider running. The Chemistry Moderators are fantastic!
