TRPG General Chat

Main chat room for tabletop role-playing games. Anyone can ask...
Fri 05:29
@V2Blast I don't think so. I suspect the answer is "there's no rule or text indicating that they shouldn't, so they do"
Wed 14:20
And/or how does the system use the conviction and luminance(?) values?
Apr 22 19:32
Ah, that might limit new characters?
Apr 22 18:14
It still works for me, though I think you're only able to make a character with the shared content if it's a part of the same campaign and would be subject to any restrictions placed on it (which would presumably be whatever the default/legacy imported settings are)
Apr 22 14:59
Do we have non-Core 2024 stuff yet?
Apr 22 14:20
@AncientSwordRage I think that's @NautArch. They at least own the one I'm in
Apr 16 17:52
You can ignore the Feeds "user"
Mar 29 16:35
And just tangentially you might have interest in rpg.meta.stackexchange.com/q/7218/52137
Mar 29 16:35
5e's Simulacrum+Wish springs to mind
Nov 22, 2024 22:31
@VLAZ Nw :)
Nov 22, 2024 21:42
The easiest hurdle to put in front of any such effort would be "why not just use chat?"
Nov 22, 2024 19:20
@RowanHamilton In general you can contact mods by raising a flag, though for chat that will go to mods across the network. To answer the actual question though, yes, using making a chat room for PBP is perfectly fine
Nov 5, 2024 15:28
@ThomasMarkov I am now, what up?
Sep 29, 2024 21:46
D&D Beyond is the platform for the 5th edition. Bring whatever you've been asked to, which I'm guessing is not much
Sep 29, 2024 21:20
Otherwise I'll ask if rpg.stackexchange.com/q/204623/52137 or rpg.stackexchange.com/q/11033/52137 answer your question. If not, than what is that they're not answering for you or what kind of "into D&D" you're looking for? (not necessarily an easy question to answer)
Sep 29, 2024 21:18
(If yes, my simple advice would be to play with them and ask to have a session zero, though hopefully the answer you'll get is that you were going to anyway)
Sep 29, 2024 21:10
Do you have a group to play with already?
Sep 23, 2024 17:51
Inventor with Dex, Int, Cha would give a bone obvious Artificer background
Sep 23, 2024 17:28
Squire might fit one of those?
Sep 23, 2024 17:27
Str + Con + [Int/Cha] would be Eldritch Knight and Paladin
Sep 12, 2024 14:36
Stack does not have any system for direct messages (that's available for use like this)
Sep 12, 2024 14:25
But feel free to drop a link in here and a note if there's anything specific you're concerned with/want feedback on/etc.
Sep 12, 2024 14:24
@VoidWarden You can in here certainly, but that's probably too long for main, and the kind of feedback you're after is likely too broad and general as well
Sep 8, 2024 15:57
@ThomasMarkov Always slightly scary to press a button when it'll update 22k posts

Q: A Canonical Wish Question [2022]: Why Shouldn't I Make a Necromancer Farm?

Thomas MarkovI'd like us to revisit the discussion had here: Should we have a canonical "Can the Wish spell do X?" question? This is not a duplicate because I think a change of landscape, so to speak, warrants a revisit, and I am seeking input about what to do about that if we decide not to close any question...

Jul 9, 2024 19:45
More likely a network mod changed the name (to make it obvious on repeat) and they reused the user

Q: Does a creature that is immune to all outcomes (conditions, damage, etc.) of an effect still make a saving throw?

Someone_EvilLet's say a 5th level Lore Bard casts fear on a violet fungus not knowing that it is immune to the frightened condition. Does the violet fungus still make a saving throw? In particular, is a saving throw rolled which the Bard can use (and admittedly waste) its Cutting Words on? (A divination Wi...

@JoelHarmon I'm pretty sure the target field for spells is an r20 addition
Feb 13, 2024 20:35
This is not something to which any kind of fixed line is applied, the rate of edits here seems to have been perfectly fine
Dec 17, 2023 11:22
Also congrats, you've apparently managed to have a rollback war with yourself
Dec 17, 2023 11:11
@ThomasMarkov Oh, sorry, I've been rather busy last few days, let me look at it
Oct 21, 2023 17:49
That's disappointing
Oct 21, 2023 17:49
I guess not, no
Oct 21, 2023 14:53
Let's see if that fixed it

Those messages are in the feed the bot should be reading from
Oct 5, 2023 17:00
@KorvinStarmast I think locked is supposed to be for more exceptional cases than deletions, but questions can't normally be deleted if they have an upvoted answer, IIRC
Oct 5, 2023 15:31
@NotArch That's not tabulated is it? Seeing as its dependent on the Int mod
Sep 26, 2023 19:57
Which Q in particular?
Sep 26, 2023 19:54
A multi-line message beginning with a > will be quote blocked in its entirety
Sep 26, 2023 14:28
@NotArch Seems to be Glamer

Mar 27 16:25
@NotArch I agree that it's valid to have concerns about scope/breadth of the question, but my opinion (which in part informed by the successful answers) is that's not enough to be problematic. I also absolutely agree with you that the specific questions about individual instances of confusion would be better questions, I don't think that makes this unanswerable. A general question which shouldn't really be needed is downvote reason and that falls under long standing guidance AFAIK
Mar 27 16:07
@NotArch Uhm... I really feel like I'm missing something here. Are there any specific guidance you're thinking of which indicates this question is too broad?
Mar 27 15:52
Honestly reading over the comment thread(s) which sparked this I'm surprised the question wasn't whether the SAC is still applicable to the 2024 edition which seemed to much more be in contention (and is possibly a more interesting question)
Mar 27 15:50
That means any new and very specific questions that come up probably aren't dupes of this one (but this might be useful as an extra for answers) and answers shouldn't expected to cover every exception or apparent mistake that comes up. I think that should cover against the Too Broad risks here
Mar 27 15:49
I'll just leave my 2c in here; I do think this question presents an actual problem which is with regards to how to read a specific aspects of the rules and with roots in edition (sub-edition?) baggage. That's seems acceptable as a general question and seems to be adequately answered as such

Going by the definition in the question, this is a question about whether the <things in question> are metagaming, the makes the tag appropriate (reminder, tags do not dictate things to the answers, they're more like metadata (hah!) to the question)
