Hi all, trying to earn the chatterbox hat without being too obvious about it... :P

Usually there's been a hat for doing some specific activity on either December 24th or 25th.

So, no special hats for Christmas? :/

How do I follow? Apparently I've never done it before.

I'm confused. I'm trying to earn the "Disciple" Hat. The spoiler says, "Follow 8 posts". So, I clicked the star on 8 different questions on Stackoverflow. Still haven't earned the hat. Am I missing something?

I've worn one of the distancing hats, but I haven't gotten vexillologist yet.

I don't know what the rule is that triggers a new user to be marked as a "New Contributor" (e.g., is it just their first post ever and they haven't asked any others yet, or is there a time limit afterward in hours or days... or is it both conditions?). But regardless, my theory is that it has something to do with being the first to upvote the post of a user who is marked as a "New Contributor".

I think it has to be a "New Contributor", someone who has just asked the first question they've ever asked. It looks like in my case, the user has been around for two days, but the question was only a few minutes old when I upvoted it.

I will go try some things on some of the other sites to see if I earn the hat there as well.

If you don't, then it may be that you have to be the FIRST to do it. Possibly within a short amount of time from when the question is posted. Also possibly with some conditions of no one else doing it, at least not within a certain amount of time. Those are my guesses as to the possible trigger nuances.

It's my official theory... if I'm right, do I get any street cred?

I think that's what triggered the hat.

@U11-Forward, I got it on stack overflow. I suspect it's because I upvoted a newbie's question, but I'll need to go verify it's a newbie.

I got the "Warm Welcome" secret hat, but I do not see it listed on the hat list yet.

How is it that the Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve, and now Christmas have all arrived and there are no related secret hats to any of them? I feel sad. :'(

@EriktheOutgolfer, it's the 21st. Over here on the West Coast of America, that's the current date. I figure it will be "as long as it's Winter Solstice somewhere in the world"...

So.... if there is a secret hat for doing some activity while it is Winter Solstice.... nobody seems to have been awarded it yet. :/
