@DavidS You should take a closer look at Iran's missile program.
Oct 8, 2024 09:54
@JonathanReez, I don't reply to circular arguments.
Oct 8, 2024 09:54
@JonathanReez, The fight against Houthis was not happenijg in earnest: they were allowed to continue importing food as just one example. --- Do you mean the Houthi fighters or do you mean the common houthi people? Like professional armies, Houthi fighters will have no food crisis—they will make their way anyhow and will continue fighting. Common people might suffer. The same is evident in the ongoing Gaza War. So, your understanding is fundamentally flawed. Afghans did the same in fight against Soviet occupation. They ate only one piece of bread and tea and continued fighting.
Oct 8, 2024 09:54
@JonathanReez, As I said, first get the basic idea of M.A.D., then post comments here. Given the present scenario, no one has a clear upper hand, and that was the essence of my answer.
Oct 8, 2024 09:54
@JonathanReez, Really? And, what about Irans massive underground missile arsenal? Ever heard of M.A.D. in the context of nuclear attacks? Visualize something similar in conventional warfare.

Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@Allure, OK. I will check on that.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@Allure, Open access is my preference. Coz, it is just easy to show my work. I have written to the editors of a journal about the possibility of a fee waiver. I am waiting for their response.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@Buffy, Your advisor lying to you is a quite different problem. --- I have a feeling that he is giving his native students more opportunities to work on different projects. So, if I tell him that I want to publish something, he will probably undermine me. I am not in Western Europe where society is immigrant-heavy.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@BryanKrause, If you don't have funds to pay for open access publication, why would you choose an open access journal? --- I really don't know. Everyone around me are publishing in open access journals. So, I thought, I should do the same.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@AdamPřenosil, What expenses? Are you talking about open access fees or something else? --- as far as I know Open Access journals ask for fees.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@JonCuster, If yes, are there reputable jounals in your field that don't charge the authors any fees? --- I might be mistaken, but as fasr as I know open access journals requires fee payments. Since my supervisor doesn't have any contribution in it, I cannot request him to cover the expenses for this paper." Why not? --- He has been lying a lot in the past few months. So, he lost my trust.
Mar 29, 2024 15:36
@Buffy, Is there any reason you'd be afraid to ask your supervisor other than the money? Do you have a good relationship? Will they support independent work or punish you for it? --- For some reason, my supervisor seems to be lying a lot to me. As a result, I don't trust him anymore.

@CaptainEmacs, C++ is strictly typed. So, I don't have to be confused if a parameter takes a number as an argument or a vector or a tuple as an argument. Then we have kwargs in Python. C++'s documentation is also easier to comprehend. C++'s IDEs are also more powerul. E.g., intellisence is more robust.

Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@knzhou, Okay..
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@Qwokker, I already checked that thread.
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@Servaes, Or do you imagine that there is any kind of career prospect in a Western nation for you after having spent significant time at a Chinese university? --- I don't know; you tell me.
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@Servaes, Is your intention to remain in China permanently, for the rest of your career? --- My intention is to have an immediate employment and build a traching and research portfolio. Then move back to the EU again.
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@knzhou, My supervisor told me that story. There is no way I can verify that.
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@cag51, No. No.
Oct 16, 2023 16:05
@cag51, I am in 2nd year of my 4-years PhD. Time flies very quickly. Also, I have to decide if I should do a PostDoc in the EU or go to China.

Aug 10, 2023 22:33
Bye.
Aug 10, 2023 22:33
I am leaving the chat.
Aug 10, 2023 22:32
I have a Chinese room mate just like you.
Aug 10, 2023 22:32
You have poor reasoning and argument capability.
Aug 10, 2023 22:31
Those are two different authorities.
Aug 10, 2023 22:31
An Al Azhar graduated Mufti saying something is not the same as a ruling from Al Azhar university.
Aug 10, 2023 22:30
I never said that. You are putting words into my mouth.
Aug 10, 2023 22:23
So, there is a conflict of interest.
Aug 10, 2023 22:23
Singaporean law are not compatible with Islam.
Aug 10, 2023 22:22
This person you mentioned has to keep a balance between his religion and the law of Singapore.
Aug 10, 2023 22:22
There is a difference between a Mufti from a non-Muslim country and a Mufti from a Muslim majority country.
Aug 10, 2023 22:21
I don't know this person.
Aug 10, 2023 22:20
I would consult Al Azhar university if I were you.
Aug 10, 2023 22:19
So, according to you, there cannot be any fake Mufti?
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, This chat is futile. You are going around in circles.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, But, like, a scholar that you agree with, surely? Not some kind of wishy-washy pro-LBGTQ mufti, right? --- I don't know this person. So, I cannot comment. However, if he supports LGBTQ pride march, he is a fake Mufti, most probably a planted one by the Singaporean government.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, I should trust you, specifically. Right? --- NO. You trust answers based on the interpretation of the Quran and Hadith by an Islamic scholar. I just copy-pasted two answers from an Islamic scholar into my own answer.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, I can't comment on what Muzibur Ullah or XYZ said. I am here to answer a question.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, Again, no matter what prefix you use, be it Western, be it liberal, be it moderate, ... there is a red line. And, if someone crosses that red line, he is not a Muslim as per the definition of Islam.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, I never mentioned Christianity even once. I said Western. Western and Christianity are not the same.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, I can't comment on Christianity or Judaism.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, If they identified as Muslim, I would probably go with it, whether their name was Mohammad or not. --- That was why I already wrote: "You cannot visualize Islam with a Western mindset." And, the reply to your comment is, NO, he is not a Muslim. In Muslim society, no sane Muslim will keep contact with him. He might have friends but they would be of the same species as him.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, I don't know about Jews and Christians. I can't comments on that.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, Suppose, someone named Mohammad drinks alcohol, eats pork, and is gay. Can he be considered as a Muslim?
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Obie2.0, what is your definition of Muslim?
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Philipp, This answer sounds to me like a "no true Scotsman" argument. --- That really depends on if there is any proper definition of "true Scotsman" or not.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@RyanJensen, In fact, the Quran itself repeatedly emphasizes the right to violate God's laws - Give me an example.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Rekesoft, burning the Qur'an is one of the valid methods of Qur'an disposal; when a volume is severely damaged, in a mosque or a library, they are burnt. So considering Qur'an burning an offense is a choice. --- As an analogy, burning a living person and burning a dead body are not same.
Aug 10, 2023 22:18
@Rekesoft, this argument is going nowhere. You are missing the context. Irshad Manji calls herself a Muslim because the Canadian local penal code doesn't say anything about her Muslimhood. However, if she goes to a Muslim-majority country to give a talk on Islam as she gave in Head to Head with Mehedi Hasan, no one will accept her.
