You say you "came across a photo" -- for the sake of clarity, can you please state whether you have an agreement that gives you permission to look in her things?

On the other hand, OP wants 16-18 degrees and that is just as unreasonable in an office setting -- normal room temperature is 21-22 degrees.

May I ask for a recommentdation: what's a good app for kids wanting to type some text? I am looking for something that kindergardeners can use to simply enjoy watching letters appear on a line, so they can have fun typing their names. Gedit is already "too much" because it asks to save, you can print, and whatnot. Tuxtype is "too much" because it expects certain input, not simply freeform. Basically a digital equivalent of scratch paper?

good night!
Oct 30, 2014 20:06
@Rinzwind this didn't work either :/
Oct 30, 2014 20:01
thanks! I'll be in bed then
Oct 30, 2014 19:57
@Rinzwind why would I want to do this? Seems dangerous, and I'd be sad to lose settings and whatnot
Oct 30, 2014 19:57
@Rinzwind confirm.
Oct 30, 2014 19:54
I can't copy from the webpage and paste into tty2
Oct 30, 2014 19:53
:-/
Oct 30, 2014 19:52
is it this? quote: i finally fixed it by resetting compiz/unity with the following commands:

Code:

dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

setsid unity
Oct 30, 2014 19:52
no wonder SE works so well :)
Oct 30, 2014 19:52
@Rinzwind [solved] but I can't seem to find the solution
Oct 30, 2014 19:50
I wish there'd be timestamps
Oct 30, 2014 19:50
hm, no change from what I pasted
Oct 30, 2014 19:48
@Rinzwind I'll try this now, hang on
Oct 30, 2014 19:48
Oct 30, 2014 19:46
yeah yeah :)
Oct 30, 2014 19:45
wait, I can still use tty2!
Oct 30, 2014 19:44
(sometimes I still feel like a total noob :-) but I'm comparing against 25 years of Windows...)
Oct 30, 2014 19:44
I'm on a guest session right now... how can I "sudo" as my admin user?
Oct 30, 2014 19:43
you can and you were faster than me
Oct 30, 2014 19:42
thanks :-)
Oct 30, 2014 19:42
@Rinzwind thank you, can you please be more specific
Oct 30, 2014 19:42
This is on 14.10 (upgrade of 14.04.

I've got a curious problem: The greeter screen correctly accepts my login&password, but the session throws me back out to the greeter screen immediately. I know the pw is correct because if I try something else, it gives the typical "incorrect pw" message. Without access to my desktop, how can I troubleshoot this??

Sep 29, 2015 18:32
@Erica That's also what I think. Thanks for the feedback, I'll do that.
Sep 29, 2015 11:56
Hey folks. I don't have time to update my question. Should I delete it? I don't like to leave it hanging like this with unresolved comments.

@Beofett best way possible sounds just wonderful and it makes me smile just reading that! Congrats on a new great job, too! We swapped emails already, so we can always stay in touch as needed.

@Beofett - Also from me, many thanks for truly excellent service. I've learned some things from your style, and it was a pleasure working with you. Sorry to hear you're too busy to go on as moderator, but life's priorities should be taken seriously. Much the same happened to me. (See? You mentioned this in November and now it's January...) I still hope to see you around occasionally!
Jan 5, 2015 07:46
@JeremyMiller huh, good find! Too bad it's not enabled by default but I assume there's a sensible reason for it.
Dec 14, 2014 08:05
@medica With hats?
Nov 4, 2014 14:27
@AJHenderson Well, haha, is it any surprise that I haven't been diving since I became a father? I'd like to, but...
Nov 3, 2014 18:37
@AJHenderson Yep, I learned that in dive training too. So I guess they're both right!

Nov 3, 2014 13:08
Kids are awesome.

Another awesome answer from @medica - keep 'em coming, please!

@TimPost Jeremy says it well -- your Real Life™ certainly takes precedence over anything that might be happening on the Internet. SE can grab a lot of mindshare but it should never come at the expense of your own family. Big congrats, and all the best wishes!

Reversely, sometimes people come to the chat and ask something that would be a very good question on the main site. In some sites' chat rooms, users that ask good questions are asked to post them on the main site; answering in the chat is discouraged. I think that would be overdoing it on our site, but it works well for technical sites.
Oct 24, 2014 10:10
Beofett is right that it's hard to find, especially for users who are not familiar with the SE model. This is probably a deliberate choice by Stack Exchange (the company) in order to keep a good focus on the main topic. The chat is a very small side show.
Oct 24, 2014 10:08
We try to keep the main site as focused as we can, and the chat is meant to be a place to handle stuff that is a poor match for the Q&A format -- like extended discussions in comments, off-topic small-talk, moderator talk, and a number of other things.
Oct 24, 2014 10:03
@JeremyMiller could this suggestion have come from me? I don't recall a particular situation and I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Oct 17, 2014 04:22
@Beofett too bad they go unnoticed... :/
Oct 17, 2014 04:14
@Joe I think AJ has answered very well! Nothing much to add from my side. Thank you AJ!
Oct 17, 2014 04:13
@Beofett I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with note flags. I didn't see any and wasn't notified either. I only see it now that I go to my profile and click the "helpful flags" score. Thank you!
Oct 16, 2014 17:00
@Beofett I flagged this meta post because I believe it mentions the wrong user, but it hasn't been addressed yet. So I'm asking you here. Balanced Mama hasn't been around here for a while; I'm guessing another person should be mentioned?
Oct 14, 2014 18:50
This is odd... I really just load a page and type it right there, no text cursor anywhere.
Oct 14, 2014 17:53
I'm on Chrome, wonder if that's the trick. No Greasemonkey scripts installed!
